Sage has spoken grin grin grin

We also need Gurus to comment grin grin grin
While we wait for gurus to comment, let me just add that there's a time for everything under the sun.

Seasons don't last forever. When the January bull came, some were so bullish that they thought it would last forever. Same with the present bear. It's interesting that some are already extrapolating this trend till next year. grin

Many events are going to occur that will affect the market in one way or the other. For example, budget approval is a key investment decision because it stalls projects.

To cut my long story short, the bull is still coming. When it does, some of you will be wondering what is driving it while some others will forget themselves as usual thinking it will last forever. cheesy

Agreed!
So what percentage will the joint venture be split? Won't it be stated?

Then read the notes to the financials and you will see the percentage for FO. You will see that the NCI has a stake in the power generation and distribution which is not up to 50% (47% and 43%). However, the percentage of the NCI to the PAT is more than 50%.

Anyway na night school I go, so I may be wrong.
You see am? (from 2017 audited result). You see say na long thing. cheesy

Transcorp has started this non controlling interest rubbish, What could be the reasoning behind this, As the business starts becoming profitable, non controlling interest rears their ugly heads....Who else should be the non controlling interests other than the ordinary shareholders
Non-Controlling Interest didn't just start actually. You should expect it from companies that enter into joint venture agreements with other investors.
For example, we both start a company called 'Maishai-Mission'. We engage in the business of selling Tea and bread. Along the line, you came up with the idea of diversifying into noodle making too. I didn't have the financial muscle to pitch in but you (and some of your contacts, probably joint owners in our company) contributed 70% while Maishai-Mission (as a business) provided the balance. Accounts of both businesses (tea and noodles) are consolidated under Maishai-Mission.
NCI will show up in the accounts of Maishai-Mission.
The more the noodle business grows the higher the NCI rises.
This wouldn't have happened if Maishai-Mission raised the entire funds for the new venture either by way of rights or Private placement.
Transcorp, Oando, FO etc ventured into businesses that the parent companies couldn't singlehandedly raise capital for. An investment vehicle was created for such ventures. Other players came in.

With a PE of 20 price will be 1.11huh

This is the best of Transcorp since listing if I'm not mistaken. It shows an appreciable growth over previous quarters since listing. The negative being the NCI that is ever present to cast a shadow on an result released by Transcorp.
The power business keeps improving while the hotel arm seems to be showing some sign of resurgence too.

This won't appeal to dividend hunters definitely. But I expect the market to reward this result in due time.

Gambling can assume different meanings. In a way, we all gamble but not the act of playing games to win money.
We all take a risk, because of uncertainty, hoping to get a desired result. When you take educated guesses during a multiple choice answer exam, it's a gamble. When you choose to follow Ikorodu road instead of Third Mainland bridge in order to avoid traffic, it's still a gamble.
That said, acquiring a stake in a company with the hope that the company performs well is not clear-cut gambling.
But wait o, buying FTN Cocoa now and hoping it will rise 'one day' might be textbook gambling. So I think the basis and risk level should be a factor.

With due respect, but it is unfortunate that you have wasted your time reading all these while. You may as well call all investors and those that are managing all the companies/industries in the Nigeria Stock Exchange gamblers or Baba Ijebu. Thereafter you can refer to the New York Stock Exchange and all exchange in the world as Gambling Plaza.

The truth be told, investing in the stock exchange means that you become a shareholder of a holding entity/company. Think of being a shareholder in Nestle, Unilever, Zenith etc. The NSE will remain a gambling site for you if you do not know what you are doing.
If only we could all show some respect for each other. It was possible for you to respond to his gambling claim without the disrespect.
Give your opinion on what you think of the stock market....... straight to the point..... And an healthy discussion ensues.

We have had too much animosity these past few days and I think we all should just calm down. Show respect, love and thoughtfulness towards others. Esteem others better, wiser and smarter than you are..... It doesn't diminish you. That way, we have mutual respect for each other.

- very low till mid day
The market movers need people to panic a little so they can move in. The problem was that the low prices we saw were not accompanied with good volumes. However, time is gradually running out. The next season beckons. Their patience is being tested.

You buy 1000 units for 680,000 they pay N8 per share as dividend=N8,000. Who takes care of broker's fee.
Seplat is going to be a hot bride in 2018 for real and big time investors (not necessarily traders). Blessed are those that bought at sub N500. Just be collecting the dividends and reinvesting it back in the company.

A potential contender with Nestle for the highest priced stock on the NSE (possibly this year). Don't take my words for it. It's based on my own perspective. I expect to see jaw-dropping earnings back to back.

For JIJO levels, I still dey confused on what to buy sef. I expect to see some sell off with appreciable volume so that fresh funds can come in to push the index up. Volumes not encouraging yet for the likes of Oracle grin

Mr Oge, some of the information in your website are inaccurate o. Specifically, dividend payment from Transcorp. When did Transcorp propose N4.4b dividend? You also claim N502m was paid the previous year......when? How? Where?

Good call .. the debate then was about the volume though ... average daily volume of less than 2m may not suit some people.
You only succeed in doubling your risk when you pump money into illiquid stocks except you are an investor and going long term. Even then, you must be convinced you're not making a mistake.
Portfolio size too matters. You may go for such stocks if price appreciation on the trading volumes we see suits you. To some people it's just a distraction from their core strategy not to talk of the energy and time spent monitoring it. huh

You just don't seem to get it. I pointed out the illiquidity of the stock if I remember correctly. Unfortunately, I can't do such stock. The bid you're celebrating was less than a 3m if I'm not mistaken. How many units can you get to buy/Sell that will make a significant impact on your portfolio?

A stock that will triple in price over a period of time and your portfolio will rise by a mere 10%. Mba not my trading strategy. For PENNY stocks, no volume.... no deal bro.

In the history of corporate mismanagement, OANDO is a dunce to JASAUL... grin
I disagree. Japaul is way better than Oando. However, the baddoo of them all is DAAR. Dokpesi did an IPO and PO at the same time. Offering a portion of his own holdings in the company and just disappeared from limelight since then. The funds raised never made it to the company I would assume because even the staff are tired of demonstrating the non-payment or partial payment of salaries.
