@Eastbay,
I understand your concerns. But I agree with tkb on not being overly worried. Remember;

1. There are no real minnows in the UCL. Ask Inter.
2.United are European champions. All opponents will be EXTRA motivated to have our scalp.
3.We still topped the group and hopefully would get a favourable fixture in February.

However you are right. WE ARE NOT PUTTING AWAY OUR CHANCES AND ALL OUR FORWARDS ARE GUILTY OF THAT. That could come to haunt us soon.

@Sauron,
Tevez has responded to your challenge. I hope you'll tell SAF to do the needful grin

Guys, we were all happy to have Gary back but we forget that this IS the real Gary. lipsrsealed Have you guys forgotten those days when Gary, Barthez and Silvestre conspired to conjure up a goal for the opposition every other game? huh Dust your videos please. Or is it not the same Gary who will simply follow an attacker from his own half fearing to commit himself until he gets to our 18. He has only gotten worse with age(and long lay-off). His strongest points was his pullouts which was sheer class. In terms of actual defending I have the same faith in him as Taiye Taiwo. grin

@Mancs,

Great to have CR win yet another individual award .He thoroughly deserved it. For those who insisted he didn't in their hearts they could not point to any one who would have given him a run based on OVERALL performances last term. That showed in the voting pattern. Clear winner.

I hope this makes him an even better player in terms not only of skills, but temperament and maturity. He is better than many but can improve as he is now than ever an ambassador of the game and will be judged on MORE stringent parameters than others.

SAF seems to be making some funny selection mistakes. So far they have not been calamitous but I think the 1st team coach really MUST wake up . Not fully convinced of the quality we have their but maybe that's my view.

Sauron, I agree that Tevez NEEDS to grab each opportunity with both hands(and feet). However, Baba needs to give him some MORE playing time(like he did with Saha when he closed the door on RVN). Tevez is not the quality to stay unhappy for too long. Suitors will come . Baba needs to manage this moment and succeed like he did when we had much less quality upfront grin

@Cristerator,
Congrats. grin I will release a new flick for you soon. The theme is " Set a thief. , , "grin

Na wa o! Where did our thread goooo!!!
And now in-fighting. Hey guys what's up? shocked Anyway I feel for both sides.

Ronaldo? Any astute football watcher would have known that Ronaldo would not have gone last season(Real never really forced Fergie's hands except through their tabloid. Reminds me of the Nigerian IG outlawing checkpoints on the pages of newspapers without a SIGNAL to Commands to the effect) huh

1.Real's approach was lousy and big clubs ALWAYS do so with (comparatively)smaller clubs  angry
2.Fergie stood up to match Real proving with Scottish stubborness that "we are equally big" cool
3.Ronaldo COULD HAVE HANDLED the whole saga BETTER. He appeared to give some fans the impression that he WANTED to force United's hand in the matter. Nothing bad if you no longer want to play for us but you could be a true legend even when you exit if it's done honourably. If Ronny had gone last season fans might have been divided on where to place him . Eventually though they will probably remember his goals and the fact that he never REALLY said anything bad about the club and forgive him. Like they did in his first game this season .

And he has tried to start repaying them for that kindness. Let's allow him.  cool

Very interesting case over the last 2 weeks and I'm thrilled at the sense of outrage.
angry
The crux really is " WHERE DOES THE RIGHT OF MEN IN UNIFORM(and positions of authority) STOP AND THE RIGHTS OF THE CITIZEN BEGIN." In Nigeria , years of military rule have traumatised the citizenry . Even Man O War and company security guards terrorise people. In many instances we(yes we) JUST WALK AWAY BECAUSE IT DOES NOT CONCERN US. angry

Arogundade may be a "perfect gentleman"  huh as those who know him have tried so hard to point out but Abacha's friends said even more complimentary things of the late general. My advice is to always put yourself in the others shoes . If your wife or mother was brutalised will it feel less painful when you hear that she actually first abused the beasts who did so. Or would she have deserved it.

For me we have once again seen the barbarism/lawlessness  of MEN IN UNIFORM(and those in positions of authority) which we witness daily on our roads,with our land, in our businesses,etc

Uzoma? Heroine? Maybe by default. I have always prayed that children of well placed Nigerians will become the AGENTS OF CHANGE which we all desire (AND HAVE AN INALIENABLE  RIGHT TO) but which our rulers deprive us of or simply choose to ignore.

I am outraged by this incident but this is NOT the worst case of molestation/barbarism by men in uniform(some others have actually resulted in death!). Today local government thugs colluding with Policemen waylay/extort money from drivers of  branded vehicles on our highways but nothing is done because the child of a governor has not yet been maimed or killed(yes people have died trying the escape these guys) . Tomorrow when it happens (as it surely will when those who should stop it NOW don't, we will all scream blue murder)

My joy is simply that  MAYBE these cowards will no longer get away easily with such actions again. Just maybe. lipsrsealed

Whether the Admiral or his men will receive the punishment people expect(or that they deserve) is one thing. The important thing is that the world is watching how we handle this and people can hopefully no longer get away (easily) with such barbarism .

That in itself is some victory. cool

I won't be too amazed. If the money is too much for Berba to resist my thinking is he won't. Spurs I think would prefer to sell to City than United (just to rub it in even if it might mean losing some future earnings on the player) I think people see the kind of momentum that greeted Roman's arrival at Chelsea. Can't blame Alex too much cos no one could have forseen the City twist. But maybe we should've wrapped this up a few days ago. Just maybe.

Could Alex talk to Berba without Spurs' permission? Who is lying?

In 1998 after a not too convincing 1st round display Nigeria was to meet Denmark in the 2nd round. We were already analysing how to massacre Brazil even before kicking the ball against Denmark.

Hindsight tells me we first get a good result against USA who have so far looked comfortable in their 2 matches. If we lose on Wednesday (which we can ) it's bye to CIV or Argentina.

@All,

Just by the way to balance things United SHOULD NOT HAVE MADE THE STATEMENT THAT THEY WILL KEEP RONALDO ON THE STANDS AT THE TIME SIR ALEX WAS QUOTED TO HAVE SAID IT. IT WAS AN UNGUARDED, ILL-ADVISED , PANICKY STATEMENT .

The statement was in response to Real's poaching but probably hit Ronaldo more than Real. Am a supporter but United should NEVER have MADE the statement at that time.

@Superstar,
I agree with you. Queroz has handled this as matured as he possibly could(Could it be age?).

It's obvious that his heart is in the Portugal job but I admire his gentlemanly conduct. Ronaldo should learn one or two things from  this. You don't have to stay at a club forever but when you leave people can still feel good about it. That's why a Peter Schmeichel was still applauded OT even when he started playing for Man City huh  Roanldo is a superstar in United but may never be considered a true legend. He has shown little respect for United as a club during this saga.

I think AW is doing what he can to make Ade stay and is playing hardball - obviously le boss was pissed at Hleb's ice cream saga with Inter last season and threatened to report to FIFA. I believe he wanted them both to stay initially, but there is a limit you can do if you want to protect your philosophy and vision and not ruin your own work - Fergie didn't offer more money to entice Brown, the boy simply thought about it and decided to stay.

I do believe we have tried to do as much as possible to make them stay, but in the end, if they want to go, I won't cry. Ade still loves Arsenal I'm sure, but the noise around his head is getting to him; hopefully he shows up for preseason warm ups and gets some sense talked into his head. He's good alright, but would never be on the radars of them clubs if AW did not stand by him. We will try to keep him as P diddy H-W said, but not with beyond reasonable measures.

His deal has been reviewed twice in two years, how often does that happen? If that isn't desire to keep the player, I don't know what is.
Bros,
reviewed to 30k? Haba. I think Wenger is one of those managers who seem to know how to get peeps to stay for their good. It appears he's pissed and cares not. Problem?It might hurt . My suggestion is to distill the shit that has been quoted. Look Hargreaves said WORSE than Ade. Even threatened he may not play at some point. Bayern? No way . But Debo if you THINK ARSENAL HAS DONE THE "NEEDFUL" in keeping ADE then let him go. As always I already have titles that will soothe your pains at the appropriate time  grin

@A-40,
Guess what ? Ronaldo when asked about the implications of his Real dreams was quoted as saying he does not mind HURTING anyone that he MUST speak his mind
Wes Brown sometime mid season started making his own demands. Eventually he stayed. I was one of those who insisted we should do ALL in our power to make him stay. Fair is fair 30k is shit and any player is bound to get pissed at being "cheated". Barton, Obafemi, Owen, etc earn more than him. Yet he plays for Arsenal and has delivered even if you won nothing. He DID his job. Point. Understand the motivations and let it be that ARSENAL HAS TRIED ITS BEST TO KEEP ADEBAYOR BUT ADEBAYOR IS TIRED OF ARSENAL. For now I don't think that has happened.

@Debo,
I understand your plight. I do not advocate begging a player to stay . No player is bigger than any club(except maybe Maradona at Napoli grin) However do you think Arsenal has done ENOUGH to keep by far their best performer last term. Compare to United's near recalcitrant posture on Ronaldo. If Adebayor can score 30 goals in his first season without operating under the shadow of vavavoom, why should you readily dismiss it as ehen so what? 30 goals by any standard is solid. How many strikers in the history of the premiership are in that elite group. Beware , maintain your pride but act wisely.
