losing 8 points in 4 games and remaining joint leaders on points is good. Problem is this is not the time to be so generous. cool

This is the business end of the season and winning one game in 6 spells  emergency and not "nothing spoil".No doubt there could be more twists but  with 8 games to go even the most optimistic goon can only hope against hope.  grin

Just saw this topic .

Very interesting, though if you were to interview sports followers WORLDWIDE the answer would be pretty obvious.

Always wondered why a game where the only contact with the foot is when you take a 'penalty'(I think that's what it's called )is called football. Sounds as stupid as calling THE REAL FOOTBALL(ok soccer) handball because you use the hands for throw-ins.

England exported(not invented) modern football(the real one that is) to the World and it has become the most popular sport . Outside of the US in how many countries is American  grin grin Football the No 1 sport. Typical Yankee reasoning would probably be that everyone's too blind to see what they see.

Those that are exclusively passionate about both sports would probably see nothing good in the other but a good judge might just be worldwide interest which American grin football ? has not, does not and probably can never command. I cannot say the same for their basketball(yes it was invented in the US by Naismith?) which is a lot more fun to watch and  the name makes a lot more sense (they aim for the basket  grin)

Howdy?Loooooonnnnngggg time grin Good 2 see we are still very much on track. Am happy that our injury problems had been dealt with earlier and we don't have any really worrisome ones presently.

On Wes, I think both parties need to strike a balance and give 'n' take. If he wants a little more lets give him. Wes is dodgy but definitely better at defending now than Monsieur (Yes I will shoot no I will pass, ehmn.   . grin)Silvestre(I think grin) His game no doubt has improved but not near enough. Anderson in Scholes absence has stamped his name on the shirt ,. . arguably ditto for Nani.

We cannot say Wes is truly our first choice RB but we still need him. He however also needs to be seen to make a compromise so it doesn't look as if he left solely cos of cash. There are players in the Prem who'd never win jack with their clubs but are arguably better than Wes. Compromise is the key word here.

Howdy guys?
It's always so good when the boys do the talking on our behalf.
Anytime MU plays there are 100 reasons why we must lose . But we shut them up with our play. Even when we lose we learn and simply move on. We're not afraid or ashamed to lose. When it does happen we become stronger for it

The good thing about the Newcastle bludgeon is the scary message it sends to some of these teams.  .  .almost like 30% of the work done.

11 games to go and it's looking like the trophy ain't going anywhere.  cool

@Reds,
The lesson of the post Scholes return is instructive . Compare those games to the last 2 . Don't even bother.The last 2 games Arsenal and Newcastle point to the easing out albeit slightly and respectfully of the old guard . There is a change of guard and guys are ready(hungry) to step in.Baba is seeing (or at least trying out what many Reds have been advocating) .   ,    .and we'd be better for it . cool
@Jackal,
I agree with you . Brown has been loyal but also needs to pay back Baba's loyalty. Methinks it's in his best interest to stay. He can win even more stuff staying. Wish he makes the best choice for himself.  cool

Looked at that stuff again and I am not fully convinced that there was anything particularly wrong(or disrespectful) with it considering that Nani was always under pressure from the Hoyte all the time he was with the ball. Really it's the job of the opposition to make people pay for doing unnecessary things with the ball. Please read  the book 'MY BAD' by Rene Higuita(90 World Cup) cool
I seen JayJay CR and Ronaldinho do stuff commentators refer to as sheer brilliance or ' pure class'. Some a lot worse than this . I however agree that Latin born and African players tend to show off just a bit . What will the game be without them . Nuff said.

Ronaldo is not a striker so  his goals will always be a bonus. The noise about his scoring is just that he's standing toe-to-toe with strikers right on their turf and he's still doing his own job as well.Even if he does not finish highest scorer in the league his 19 goals so far are a fantastic return for one whose main task is not scoring. If indeed he finishes highest then he would no doubt have been the best player this season . cool

Don't bother watching the game because u will weep.
Actually these stats prove that there's not much to choose on the day when both sides play. The difference prolly in the trophies won.

Arse has had a fantastic season so far(emphasis mine). These last 12 actually will be more important than the previous 26. Have they done enough to win. Absolutely NOT! Both us and yes Chelsea still have a look in, yes and Chelsea.For the gayners who believe that the league's just about wrapped up good luck to them.

@Reds,
We've put ourselves in a bit of a tight spot . 1 point in 6 is cause for some concern especially as our closest rivals did not stumble during the period. I am confident though that we play our strongest and most determined footie towards the very end of the season. We just need to keep winning our games and make the right selections. A 5point gap is a very realistic target to chase. We've clawed back a lot more from Newcastle Arsenal in the past when the league looked all but wrapped up. We have the ability to do it again. All we need do is keep up the pressure which we relaxed in the last 2 weeks. I'll take a review after the next 4 premiership games. Enough said.

Winner of Saturday's game gains temporary bragging rights.Also the satisfaction of knocking the other out will be pleasant.Saturday presents the perfect response to the Goons. They seem on top of their game and what's better than making them eat the humble pie. Then dejavu would set in .  .  . grin grin

My bad. Actually it's still 13 for you guys. Don't count your nuts before they are .  .  .   . tongue huh

@Jackal,
My point on Ronaldo is that guys would keep changing criteria on which he's judged. Surely his prolific goal scoring is a bonus and not a necessity. Folks have come up with stuff like he doesn't pass, he dribbles too much , he misses goals, he dives , he's selfish,he's not good at set pieces, etc. Each time he responds new stuff will come. The current one is he does not show up in big games . Definition of big games: Games United lose where Ronny is not at his inspirational best. Therefore Man U Roma would not be a big game,Man U Milan (OT) will not be a big game, Man U Chelsea will not be a big game and so many others.

Jackal the very fact that Ronny's platinum credentials is being subjected to this extreme scrutiny says a lot . If you were a seer picture Ronaldo in a Real shirt(the Good Lord forbid for the next 15 years grin grin) and tell me if these same guys will not be singing his praises to high heavens like they did Ronaldinho 3 seasons ago.

Its an open race only in your mind, your players have to respond, and like i said; UNITED WILL DROP POINTS AS WELL!!

Your penultimate game is at the bridge i think undecided, so that doesn't look good if you ask me.

We played shit yesterday but against a disciplined and highly motivated City. We played badly but saying that downplays the effort City put in yesterday. We lost to a better side, sharper, more solid and tactically superior. Shit happens.

@Jackal,what's up
I disagree with the international break stuff.That's the way of Jose the Lip and Queiroz should not have broached that topic. We lost we lost . When we lost to the Hammers there was no break or to City earlier in the season. And we've also won games immediately after such breaks so? huh huh

On Ronaldo,
Opinions will always be divided since he's a United player. Ruud got the same stick until he moved to Madrid and then folks started screaming Hosanah  he's the type of striker they need.If Kaka had been a United player a lot of these folks will not be so gracious with their comments.  cool

The guy is a fantastic player period. If he falters in a couple of games out of the 50 something odd games in a season it does not make him less of the star that he is.
Thierry Henry against Barca(06) was busy squandering elementary chances which a blindfolded pregnant septuagenarian  grin  will tuck away with ease. He played shit for France in 2002 leading a contingent of misfiring strikers with no goal in 270 minutes of football losing to a shitty team like Senegal(yes by World standards Senegal is a shitty team,that was their first World Cup). Yet Goons always have erections about the same Henry.

Folks , Ronaldo's play will continue to do the talking. Because of the extremely high standards he has set people are bound to want to judge him using the most stringent criteria. Because of his exceptional quality he will keep giving them answers. If Adebayor overtakes him today on the scorers chart the next thing will be "Ehen, you see he can't even score goals ordinary Adebayor is scoring more than him if RVP comes back nko".  . bla, bla.The first response comes this saturday Gayners be warned grin grin

Everything that could go wrong went wrong with us yesterday(good Ol' Murphy). Ivory Coast is fast becoming our new husband
The 3 main problems I think we had were

1. Mobility: movement on and off the ball
2. Desire :  hunger to win
3. Technical depth: no apparent technical brilliance noticed on the day

1 Mobility: Time was when teams feared to attack us cos our counter exposed them . Each time we got the ball we spent so long dressing it(Mikel) that the Ivoriens regrouped and could thwart our efforts. Mikel takes 8 touches and is still in the centre of midfield Zokora's 4 takes him to our 18. Guys were hardly moving off the ball to give the guy with the ball options. It was almost like a practice session at some point. In the past we could kill the game when our opponents are too fast but then we could kill them with our speed when we wanted .

2. Time was when you lead Naija 3-0 and the boys were still struggling. That's why Olympic 96 against Brazil was a classic . Or Nigeria Cameroun CAN final in 2000. That never say die spirit used to be in our blood. There was no desire to win yesterday. We were playing like big boys against Drogba,Kolo,Eboue,Dindane. ? ? ? huh It was worse when Kalou scored , our shoulders simply dropped. At some point it looked like Ivory Coast was the one trying to equalise.

3. There was no noticeable brilliant technical input . When plan A fails there's Ai,Aii, Aiii, Bi C and so on.From the first 5 minutes of the game it was obvious that the keeper's composure was suspect . That was a weak link that could have been exploited maximally. The substitutions Okonkwo and Makinwa did not show someone watching the same game we watched yeaterday.
Too many questions.

All we need to do is go back to the basics . Some are:

1. Pass pass and pass. Do not hold onto the ball needlessly.
2. Move on and off the ball. It makes marking extremely difficult. It multiplies your options.
3. Mark from when you lose the ball, You truncate their attack before they look threatening. You pressure them into mistakes.

Very simple stuff but our game will look better and with better technical input we might get the kind of result we need against Mali.

I'm still very confident that we will get back to our winning ways. Like I always say better I win 2 and lose 1 than draw 3. This game looked lost by the end of the first half even though we were ahead.

The stats did not show we deserved even one point. Our guys looked liked they had partied all night. No spirit ,losing possession stupidly and playing just like our disastrous second leg against Milan. I silently hoped we won't be punished but that was hopeless. We DID NOT DESERVE ANYTHING out of this game, and we got nothing.
If we had scored the pen maybe the tide might have changed but sometimes the god of soccer does not give handouts to the indolent. That was not United today and we know it. We fielded a relatively strong side and must admit we played shit. Today's lessons

1.As always you win the League by winning your games not when your rivals slip

If those guys do all the playing they might just score and Arnfield is a hopeless place to go behind. Ask Arse.

I think our firepower will take their test this weekend. Against  Roma last season I had predicted that Ronaldo will come of age in Europe(He scored his first and has been doing so ever since)

I make bold to say that the Holy Trinity will as from Sunday become the most feared trio in the Prem. Goals will be scored by at least 2 of them . It won't be as boring as many are predicting. After Sunday every team in the Prem will be scared silly(of us I mean  grin). Again quote me.

Fantastic player Tevez but in him we have our own Adebayooooor(that is when it comes to missed chances).

Everyone seems fit now so it will all come down to tactics and we seem to have had the edge in the last few seasons(after the exit of Danny the Spoil sport Murphy). Hargo/Gerrard will be interesting to watch.

I'm happy Liverpool beat Marseilles cos it means they they will not be sore when we play(like they were against Besiktas and Marseilles)

Watch out for plenty of incidents. I hope we pull through. Predictions?
