Hmmmmmmmn.
Where do I start.

This is one of my best nights in Europe.Manu Bayern of 99 and Juve Manu of the same year are probably the only ones that beat today.

4play,9ja4,guys you did not need to say jack.I'm disappointed. You should have waited for some posts b4 talking.Anyway I am not angry with you because those posts will NOT come.At least not today.

I told a friend today that in Scholsy's absence Carrick needed to step up his game.He did.But so did Fletcher, and Rooney and Ronny and Heinze and hey almost everyone.

We needed to score a quick goal to bring them out.We did and they tried coming out and were stripped naked.I never really thought Roma was agreat side but in Europe you have to be wary in the knock-out stages. My brother however insisted Roma was only an average team with good players. He inisited Roma will drown in OT.He likened them to Spurs. They were worse than Spurs tonight. He neva thought in his wildest dreams we will beat them 7-1.

Positives:
1.Ronny scores and twice too.
2.Rooney on target again(remember I said both will come alive in Europe last week)
3.Carrick for me was man of the match
4.Sorry or was it Fletcher. These 2 were the key to today's game.Fletch did not put one foot wrong
5.Hey Smudge. A goal and a great game too.
6.Our makeshift defence concedes only one goal and made Roma look like Ajangbadi Grammar School
7.Man U plays the best football in England,in europe. . . . well let's see.(I know some people will argue about England)
8.Great morale booster for FA CUP

Negatives:
1.Tonight I don't want to talk about negatives.Let's celebrate!!!!!!

@REDS,
Drink what you will tonight. We deserve this.Especially because of all the hate around.I just wished all the bad belle guys could at least have the half the decency  to congratulate as they would have rushed to denigrate.

I am beginning to have less respect for this category of people.
Thanks guys for shutting them up for me.

So for d 1st time in a long while, we played before manu and d pressure was on manu instead of us like it always has been. They fumbled well. I pray we play before them so they'll see how uneasy it is to play under pressure.
Self-inflicted pressure. If you had been on top this would not be an issue.

When you were on top last season and winning matches at lunch time all these playing before or after was neva an issue. Now that you appear on the backfoot we no go hear word. You are setting the tone for excuses when we finally win the Prem. We never did that in the 2 seasons that you won.

The cracks I see show that you will not be Champs and probably were neva worthy Champs.

Deserving  champs ? yes ,for being the most consistent, but definitely not worthy for not(among others) being able to accept defeat (when it occurs)gracefully.Every single Chelsea defeat has been contested or derided by the Lip. Nobody likes to lose but don't stand logic on its head.

Again these fixtures had been done since July last year.It is only when you are disavantsged that you see conspiracies. When you were playing Xmas games before us no complaints, now huh You forget that Ass played before us but they are not in contention so it's not an issue right .

When Arsene Wenga whined about FA Cup replays my answer was if you win your games no one will force you to replay. You guys should have won your games early on . All this talk of pressure is self-inflicted and diversionary.

It will not be taking as excuse when you finally end up without the prem so begin to look for some others.

Remember you neva lose the League, you can only WIN it.

Whine and dine with the Lip.

SAF made his comments before the match not after. He took a jibe at Chelshit and see the lengthy response. In any case Chelsea could have obliged the Spurs request. They completely refused to entertain it(It was however upto the FA to insist) Sunday lunch time would have been ok for them to travel wherever and they were just being smart . I do not begrudge them even SAF would have done the same.

SAF is however not the only intelligent one. The Lip should credit himself with more intelligence especially when Chelsea loses. He smells conspiracies by refs, other managers, his own players, groundsmen, family members, members of the Royal Navy , CIA, National Union of Road Transport Workers and just about anyone.

Remember he said Ass was out to help MU that's why they forced Chelsea to a draw(yeah Goons and UNited are best of pals ),was responsible for a top ref retiring prematurely, accused AJ of diving later came out to swallow his words and so many many others.

He's always fun to watch. Especially when you guys lose. . . . so we'll all be having fun soon. grin grin grin

@Lala,I don't exactly get your point.

If you play the 'so-called'hard games first and lose too many points to catch up of what use is that to you.If you play the 'soft' games first that don't build up points , ditto.
I can tell you that our games against Sheffield,W/Ham(relegation contenders and you know how roforofo fight is),Boro(whipped your ass this season),City(No. 1 MU haters),Everton(UEFA qualification contenders) and Cheshit(masters of jambody football) will be as tough as any of yours

4 of your last 6 games  feature teams in the top 10 same for 3 of ours. So what really is the point.  huh

I am glad to see the fear creeping in now.I thought you guys were the best and had nothing to fear. So you now believe you have tough fixtures. This is different from the Chelshit till I SHITE rant that is being splashed around.

Lala, your fear now is normal and I respect your sometimes 'moderate' views . Please don't make me lose it by complaining about fixtures that were done July last year. It demeans your club and whatever little respect few people may still have.

SportsRe: Trouble In Rome - What Really Went Wrong? by manu4laif: 3:42pm On Apr 08, 2007
I think both clubs did not handle the pre-match tension well.Man u gave the impression that Rome was like Baghdad and Roma gave the impression that Rome was The Hague. MU tried to diffuse the tension later but the harm deed had been done.

The reputation of English fans always preceed them. They can be unruly and do not respect laws, traditions of others the way they do theirs or expect others to. Respect begets respect.

In 3 weeks English clubs have had problems in Europe (Man U 2ce and then Spurs). Everyone cannot be wrong all of the time and travelling  Engish fans need to check themselves.

UEFA has promised to investigate so lets wait and see.

Meanwhile and most importantly retaliation must be avoided in Manchester . MU and Police must ensure that.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Man U Wins Treble by manu4laif: 2:32pm On Apr 08, 2007
No one ever sets out to win the treble.

It just happens as a result of ability, strength, consistency, providence(luck of fixtures, injuries to players, play on the night or day), and so many other factors. Some you may not even have control over.

That is why it is always celebrated.
That is why a dominant Inter and Lyon in Italy and France could not even get to the quarters in UCL. The treble is too complicated. Great managers never even talk about it publicly as a target(even though they may secretly yearn for it).

I am only interested in winning the PREMIERSHIP. Any other trophy this season will be as always a huge bonus.

A treble is a possibility for Man U but it is just that . . . . a possibility. Talk of a treble is a bit premature now.

For me the league is the most realistic prospect we have. I dream the treble but know better than to build my hopes on that. These are my views

I really hate to hit a man(or boy(s)) when down but I can,t resist the temptation.Partly cos of the way many gooners carry on. At times you would think Goons are still in all four comps(and even the World Cup). Sosoliso is a fortress huh huhNever really was with all the draws and not anymore with your new husband. grin grin grin

The problem now is that Ass needs a win.Just a win.Any win to restore some confidence. There is still everthing to fight for (as ironic as that sounds) The worst thing that can happen to Ass this season (and there have been many really bad things) will be not to qualify for UCL. On current form that is a distinct possibility.
Some mature goons have left their fight to another day. Makes sense else frustration will set in. But really Bolton must not be allowed to catch up with you guys. And there's the little matter of your pound of flesh of Chelshit. (Don't mind me I have vested interest in that match) grin grin grin

Unless MU drops more points all your premature ejaculations will be in vain.

It also shows that till now we have been able to handle the pressure better than Manchester United, It was actually the first time we played before them and cut the points to 3 and look at their performance?
@Adblues,that's not true.We palyed West Ham and Ass after your games. Both were defeats agreed but we were still leading you 6 points by yesterday. You have not made up on lost ground even though when we lost to the Hammers it was a 2points gap.

Point? Both sides can handle pressure reasonably well. Losing one game in 8 has nothing to do with pressure. You should know better. When you could not beat Villa in January(after we drew with Newcastle 24 hours earlier)it wasn't pressure was it.

Our defeat only makes the race more exciting and gives you that little window. While praying with fervour that MU drops more points ensure that you don't. And begin to build up your goal difference. It may prove vital.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by manu4laif: 9:28am On Apr 08, 2007
@All,
This title means so much to Chelsea. You need to see the way their 'fans' celebrated yesterday at a Sports bar where I watched the match. You would think they'd won the League.Even some Arsenal fans were laughing(jubilating huh huh) though minutes earlier their season long pathetic display was topped with the loss at Sosoliso. West Ham has now married Arsenal(Muki you must wax a new home and away song now)
grin grin grin
Man U lost yesterday to a Portsmouth side that was determined to win. After beating them 2ce this season the third was always going to be tough.Like Reading before them they played like lions but unlike Reading and Villa we could not scrape a result.Give them kudos they played their hearts out and deserved their victory even if we did not deserve to lose like that.

For those having hard ons please remember Man u's still on top of the league and still has its destiny in its hands. Man u has dropped the much expected points now we await Chelsea's. Or you think they won't. West Ham ,Newcastle Bolton Ass,Everton,MU? Well lets see. grin. Even if they don't we STILL HAVE OUR DESTINY WHERE IT SHOULD BE.

6 games is a long way to go .There's still drama to be seen at both ends of the table .
@Reds,
all we need do is win our games. This is a blip not a slip as we have shown in the past.
Draw some comfort from this:
Loss to Ass. . . . . . . . 10 victories subsequently
Loss to W/Ham. . .       4 victories  subsequently,
Loss to Ass. . . . . .       7 victories  subsequently,
Loss to Pompey. .         ?

We usually come back stronger after these setbacks. I'm sure we still will.

Why this thread?

Liverpool still has to finish off PSV(yap, there is still a second leg to be played)and there's Chelsea/Valencia if PSV does not have many ideas.Liverpool was not fantastic,PSV was just short of ideas. If they wake up like the Pool did against Milan 2 seasons ago that could be interesting.

Man U? Well there's still Roma at OT and if successful the little matter huh of AC/Bayern. That is 270minutes plus of football in which anything can and usually does happen.

I do not support views like this after Nigeria Denmark (98). All we could see then was meeting Brazil not Denmark.Eventually Denmark made sure we saw Brazil . . . .but at home like fellow seers.

Abeg let's tackle Roma first because nobody come sell groundnut for Europe.

It's a pity many don't understand what the knock-out satages in Europe is all about.

For clarity lets explain.Roma played a goalless draw with Lyon at home and Lyon still went out losing 0-2.If Lyon had scored in Italy the story just might have been different.Real went out to Bayern on the away goals rule. What point? It's a game of 2 rounds and it is never over until it is finally over. A 2-1 advantage can easily be neutralised wth the first MU goal and this is definitely  a possibility

For those who are quick to rejoice when MU falters please note that there is still 90+x minutes to play at OT. Many talk because they wish(not expect) Man U to lose and I will forgive them . Why should MU underrate Roma when Watford Wigan Charlton Sheffield Lille etc have not been underrated. We never underrate any team and that includes including ourselves. We are well aware of what we are capable of doing.

If the Roma coach can admit that the game is very much open who are these people to insist that Roma will qualify. No disrespect to Roma they have ensured that they still have even more work to do at OT. If you think Roma will spring a surprise why not MU.Just like Jose the Lip who felt MU will stumble against Spurs Pool and Fulham the doomsday prophets will bite their lips.

Remember those days when Naija beat a North African team 1-0 and those guys  jubilate.Similar scenario. Not that we are ecstatic about the defeat just that we believe that we can turn things around. In 99(sorry if you don't like the sound but  huh huh huh)we drew with JUve at OT and were 2 goals behind in 11 minutes in the return leg but still won in Turin. This seems even much less of a challenge.

Many who think Roma will win only WISH so not that in their LUCID moments they actually believe that Roma will come out tops.Afterall many of these guys swore huh huh Arsenal will trounce PSV huh  Is it that they are now wiser?

For those with more consisitent experience in Europe it is what you do on the night that counts at this stage. What you do on the night is a mixture of strategy and luck . If Monaco could upturn a 1-3 deficit against Real in 04 why not MU.Liverpool last Tuesday made their return easier but surely it is not over.Roma's scenario is tight and even they know it. You may wish MU bad but don't turn logic on its head. Do not be more concerned than the bereaved!

For now lets look at Portsmouth and how to gain the next few points hopefully.

Travelling English fans have a reputation for being unruly.Police in such countries are always scared of trouble and like naija police can be trigger happy. Liken them to refs who target players who have reputation for simulation or hard tackles. I will never make excuses for any English team/club because there are quite a few hooligans amongst supporters but sometimes overzealous responses can make a bad case seem hopeless.

MU/Roma/UEFA has promised to investigate so lets wait for the outcome.

Of recent Italian fans have shown increased capacity for violence in recent times in their leagues and maybe they can  learn one or 2 things from the English FA on how they diffuse crowd trouble.

@debo,
good point.
I think though that the makeshift defence did well at the stadio horifico and can only do better at OT.
I suspect Roma will try 2 options .
A,Go all out in the early minutes and get a goal and sit on it
B,Sit out most of the game and look for a lucky break.

Either way they will be under loads of pressure which must yield some result. I think with the crowd at OT MU will score enough to scale through.

As for Bayern I am only voicing a certain streak I've noticed in their last few matches and just being as positive and prepared as can be.With all due respect it's far from over.

@rikky,

Of what use are those rings if you can't score. I think Scholsey's exit somehow changed the game.No excuses but you will expect a team with 11 against 10 to create those chances. However our defence(which includes the keeper did very well). There is a difference between wave and wave of attack of MU/Blackburn or MU/Benfica and today's Roma.

I disagree with you on running us ragged. I think piling pressure is more apt.We never looked out of sorts and they could not have been said to be unlucky not to score. That part of their football almost does not exist.

We still tried to get a result and that was commendable. If Roma had been a man short at OT would the score have been 2-1. Am not a seer like Mk but I don't think so.

Roma will fall like a pack of cards. But first Portsmouth.
