@Martlett,
David James is a fantastic tender of the ball and actually kept for England for awhile. His high profile blunders will not make history accord him full respect.

I will liken Mr Poll to James. Just like Mr James, Mr Poll has made quite a few high profile blunders that cannot do his overall rating any good.

If the FA/Press see him as great that in itself does not make him great. He again showed his "greatness"  at the World Cup last year. What we saw the experts simply could not see. Until he showed everyone on the World stage.

In the refereeing world Poll could be cynically called Calamity Poll, much like his illustrious goalkeeper pal. grin grin grin

Congratulations guys on the buys.

Typical united in delivery, quality ,clinical and sensational. 3 super buys within 24 hours. And maybe one or 2 more. Statement of intent next season has been made.

The strength in depth required to survive is slowly taking shape.Soon we may have a shadow for every 1st team position . That would be fantastic.

Long term replacement(understudies) for influetial aging legs are coming on board now . The future is being taking care of without necessarily jeopardising today.

Methinks we still need a true striker and should offload Saha. Unless he really wants to go Heinze is still key to our team.

Now we can start pre-season knowing the team is ready to go.

My fear?           Getting the right blend for optimal performance.

My consolation: I think this can probably be managed.

Congrats again guys!

Graham Poll would go down as one of the most controversial refs. A ref does not need to be controversial if good. You can be well known yes, but not controversial.

For all Roy Keane's hardness Mr Poll contributed 9 of his 11 red cards in his Man U career.Na only am dey see.He announced he was quitting international football last year. . .as if FIFA would ever have allowed him handle a World Cup match after such a high profile blunder.

The guy thinks he's the best thing to happen to England.Thankfully only few share his view.

We need to see less of guys like this in the game.

I have never liked Graham Poll . Finally, he has made a right decision this time .

Jose the Lip is so-called because he can be loquacious and makes statements which many find unguarded, uncomplimentary, unsportsmanly and maybe downright unnecessary. cool

By the way,Mohammed Ali was called the Louisville Lip in his time. So maybe there is even more greatness for the serial Special Lip. grin grin grin

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Chelsea Fans: Identify Yourselves Here (Old) by manu4laif: 8:41pm On May 24, 2007
Hi guys,
Been awhile.

1.On The Lip.He is an accomplished manager and winning 6 trophies in 3 seasons by any standard you choose implies success. What many argue is that given the resources at his disposal could any other top rate manager deliver same or more?Arguable. They would hinge this argument on the fact that when Abraham closed his purse in January the Lip became stranded and this might have affected Chelsea's second half adversely.

2. On buys. ALL teams have stupid buys or rather buys that do not deliver on promise. A combination of team strategy, style of play in country, player decay curve(ie is he still improving or has peaked),player confidence, playing time or opportunity, etc determine if a player will be successful or not. That is why a Diego Forlan will leave Man U and start banging goals in Villareal, and Ashley Cole will have a tentative start(this cannot be said to be his first season inEngland) or Shevy. What matters really is how you mitigate such by making money on their eventual sale(or cutting your losses quickly).

Meanwhile , congrats on your FA Cup victory. We continue where we stopped next season and see you at the Community Shiled. grin

Like i keep saying 4play "if you guys win something", i will be the first to raise my hats up to you scummies, (you included ) But until then, you are just making noise with no sense attached. Trophies are not given for which ever stage Manscum are at in Any Comp. Win something then come out to celebrate, then and only then will all your stupidity be justified
May is just 4 months away, spare us all this United crap till you lift a trophy ,
Like i told the Scum, The end of the season will tell the true story of how every team ends up
So Jackal and co, if you think i am playa hating you right now, I am trully sorry, i will just reserve my comments till the end of the season, when you guys prove me right and buckle at the last minute.

Yesterday was the first time we've not conceded in all comps since the game against Sheffield.

Boring game no doubt but right now I prefer the scrappiest 1-0 win to an exhilirating 2-2 draw or defeat. Plain common sense. We've played some fantastic football earlier in the season so if our fans see scrap in the last couple of games as long as we win the prem they'd readily excuse that.

Let the goons put their feet where their mouth is and ensure they do not lose. They are under pressure for this match(mostly self-inflicted)and should they lose. . . . .

If they draw or win. . . . "Eko Bridge Guard of Honour". (Fantastic Script)

What a script? Thanks Goons for making that script a reality. Come wednesday we see a Guard of Honour at Onitsha Head Bridge with 2 games to go.

Congratulations are in order .
