Politics › Re: I Won’t Contribute To School Feeding Programme, Fayose Tells FG by mapet: 6:17pm On Jun 14, 2016
Group queries Fayose over Ekiti’s exclusion from school feeding scheme

The True Face of Ekiti, which says it is a non-partisan movement of Ekiti citizens seeking to protect the interest of the state, has asked Ayodele Fayose, the governor, to explain why the state was excluded from the federal government’s school feeding programme.

According to the movement, Ekiti state was the only state excluded from the school feeding programme, recently flagged off by the federal government.

“We do not buy the state government excuse that the federal government deliberately shut out the state from this programme for political reasons,” the group said.

“Over time, the present administration in Ekiti has proved to have a way of sniffing out information from the federal authority, why was this particular one missed? The Ekiti government owe her citizens some explanations on why the State refused participating in a national programme that was alleged by Senator Babafemi Ojudu to have been in its planning stage since last year September.”

In a statement issued by the state on Sunday, Lere Olayinka, the governor’s spokesman said “for a programme that was held on June 9, 2016, mail was sent by one Titilola Adeyemi to the state commissioner for budget and planning, Hon Gbenga Olajide on June 8, 2016 at exactly 3:56pm, asking that list of participants from Ekiti State be sent before the close of business that same day. No prior invitation was received.”

“The commissioner sent a mail on June 9 requesting clarification on the mail sent by Titilola Adeyemi but up till now, no response has been received. How could Ekiti State have participated in a programme held on June 9 when invitation was only received on June 8 at 3:56pm?”

The True Face of Ekiti says it “can’t but wonder why the state government only concerned itself with clarifying why the state wasn’t represented at the flag-off ceremony but tactically ignored the exclusion of the state in the school feeding program”.

“Well-meaning indigenes of Ekiti should be interested in knowing why our state was the only state not listed among the benefitting states and not why our delegates were not sighted in Abuja for the funfair.

“We are aware that a process must have led to the eventual flag off of the programme, the big question is, was Ekiti State represented in this build up towards the Launching of the School feeding program in Abuja? If not, why?”

The group quoted Ojudu, the political adviser to the vice president, as saying “the program in question has been in plan for nine months, all the States of the federation nominated contact person who have been working hard in conjunction with officials of the federal government.

“My findings revealed that all attempt to bring our people aboard either by letters or visitations have been rebuffed. I am sufficiently educated to know the implication of our non-participation in such a program.

“No blackmail will therefore stop me from crying out. Let those who are Fayose’s drum major continue to lie, blackmail and insult me, it will never stop me from protecting Ekiti interests wherever I find myself.”

The group said it wonders why took Ojodu “nine solid months to realize how important this programme is to the people of Ekiti. Why choose to cry out now that the name of Ekiti was finally omitted from a programme being financed by the Federal Government using our Commonwealth?”

“We would have viewed the Senator’s cry as being patrotic if it had come months earlier, when it would have saved us this national embarrassment; why crying when the head is already off? Why wait until again we are in the news for yet another wrong reason?

“What was the efforts of the Minister representing Ekiti State in the Federal cabinet towards ensuring that Ekiti pupils are not deprived of their right to this free daily meal? What about other prominent Ekiti Sons and Daughters holding several vantage positions in the federal government, why did they all turned the other way?

“We sincerely would have avoided commenting on this particular issue for we do not believe in crying over spilled milk but we couldn’t hold back when we read a statement by Senator Ojudu that all hope isn’t lost after all.

“According to him ‘If he sends a team today it is not too late. Let him (the Governor) send his men to meet with those in charge and work out the logistics. We are the only state that is not showing interest’”.

The True Face of Ekiti however called on the governor, Kayode Fayemi, minister of solid minerals; Segun Oni, APC deputy national chairman South; Niyi Adebayo, the first civilian governor of the state and other political actors to work together to ensure the successful implementation of the scheme in the state.

So my dear folks, don't let Fayose's ignorance, irresponsibility and Lunacy lead you all astray.

1. The school feeding program had been in the works for 9months
2. Each state (including PDP governed states) sent reps to make contributions to how it will be implemented in their states.
3. Ekiti state did not send any rep. I also blame APC ministers, Senators and HORs members for not speaking out when Fayose's crass ignorance was in display
4. As things stand Ekiti State may be the last state to benefit from the exercise, as they sent no rep to the planing and execution team team

The first question that comes to mind is why the governor implemented a policy that is meant to cause rancour. Prior to this, students irrespective of religion were going to school peacefully and one man comes and tries to fix what's not broken.
Admittedly, the argument could be made that while hijab is a mandatory item for the Muslims' mode of dressing, choir robes and the likes are optional and designated for settings other than academic ones but this is where the Governor along with the Judge in question failed to apply foresight: what if in future, a religion or sect emerges whose dressing regulations include items that are offensive or inappropriate?? Would d governor have the moral justification to forbid that kind of dressing.
Lastly, what really irks the Christian body about this is that many of these schools were founded by Christian missionaries, bear identical names with their parent churches and were intended to promote the ideals of Christianity, how then will it appear when a girl with a flowing hijab represents St. Paul's Secondary school at a debate competition. The state is grappling with too many serious and urgent matters to add religious unrest to the list
Actually I have no qualms with students wearing the hijab but I like this your point of argument sha.

Govt's all over the world 'test run' a new policy first...see the reaction then Decide whether to fully implement it or not.

It's quite disappointing the governor didn't decide to shelve the idea or invest more time time into finding a middle ground (if that's possible) with CAN.

It's a democracy
Please let's not misstate things. Let's keep to facts;
1. There is no policy here and government has not implemented anything
2. Female Muslim students "added" Hijab to their dressing and Christians (CAN) protested. MURIC counter-protested and went to court and won.

What is now left is how this will play out.......

For me, the issue has laid out itself in simple terms
1. Let Muslim girls put on Hihab
2. Let Christian put on Choir robes and whatever they like

Whoever can sustain it, fine............

For God sakes let's lay this issue to rest for once and move on

. Al Mustapha was not retained in the army. He was only reinstated after a determination of court, besides what has Al Mustapha got to do with Officers who defrauded this Nation and sent Young officers to their graves? The 2 Mi-24's which they bought were substandard and both crashed in less than 6 months killing pilots and crew Men. Al Mustapha is a soldier, He took orders from a his superior officer, Gen. Sani Abacha. You can never fault an officer for following a direct order but these Men, they are just evil, killing young soldiers because of their greed
Bros,

First off don't misunderstand my point. Both these retired officers and Al Mustapha are wrong. In law both in Military and Civil, you don't follow an unlawful order. I believe he was able to get away because of other considerations (the prosecution's evidence were contesable, length of the case and other stuffs). Safe for that, I agree with you

Government solely responsible for A-Meal-A-Day programme, says Lai Mohammed

The Federal Government yesterday said it would solely be responsible for the funding of the A-Meal-A-Day programme, dismissing anxiety over reports that some states are not ready for the programme due to funding challenges.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mohammed, who made the revelation in Lagos at the 8th Alhaji Kafaru Tinubu Memorial Ramadan Lecture the theme: “Supreme Sacrifice and the Essence of Followership in Governance,” said the pilot scheme of the programme has started and it will cover 5.5 million pupils when fully on stream.

The minister was apparently reacting to reports credited to Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose statement, which insisted that the School Feeding Programme of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Federal Government must be done without the proposed 40 per cent counterpart funding from the states.

Fayose, who said the school feeding programme was purely a contract between the APC-led Federal Government and Nigerians, asked “Were the states consulted before the APC made the promise during the presidential campaign? How can you make a promise and win election on the basis of that promise and now expect states to help you to fulfill the promise? That to me is fraud!”
“As for us in Ekiti, we are interested in the programme because Nigeria belongs to all of us. But we won’t contribute any counterpart fund because the programme is solely an electoral promise of the APC and we were never consulted before the promise was made. We don’t even have the capability to make any financial contribution even if it is 10 per cent because our financial condition is such that we can’t even pay workers salary,” Governor Fayose said.
However Mohammed said, the N500 billion Social Intervention Programme was put in place to help alleviate poverty, maintaining that the huge money earmarked for the intervention programme in the 2016 budget was one of the sacrifices the government had to make in the face of falling revenue.

“The N500 billion Social Intervention Programme which is broken into five parts covers employment of 500, 000 unemployed graduates who will be trained as teachers. It also covers the employment of 100, 000 artisans as well as the One-Meal-A-Day programme for pupils in primary schools.”

“The Enterprise Scheme, which is targeted at one million market men and women, 460, 000 artisans, 200, 000 agriculture workers is also covered in the programme. It also covers the N5, 000 monthly conditional cash transfer to the poor and vulnerable,” the minister said.

1. Fayose should be ignored. The FG ignores him many times and this is one of them

3. If any state is not ready, let it commence from states that are ready.
