Politics / Re: Open Letter To President Jonathan By Army Officers by Marineremmanson(m): 6:25am On Jan 31, 2015
sureguy02:
[b]STATE OF OPERATIONS IN THE NORTH-EAST AS OBSERVED BY SOME CONCERNED OFFICERS

1.    We the concerned officers participating in the North East Operation Zaman Lafiya do resolve to write this letter for the following reasons:

a.     To save our country Nigeria.

b.     To stop the bloodshed of innocent officers, soldiers and civilians in the North East.

c.     To appeal to the president of the United State of America Mr. Barrack Obama, United Nation Secretary General Mr. Banki Moon and other world leaders to as quickly as important to intervene and urge President Goodluck Jonathan to do the needful in addressing the issue of insurgency in Nigeria especially in the North East.

2. As members of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, it is our responsibility to defend our country Nigeria which we are ever ready to do so as the call arises. But firstly, the civil authority has the first responsibility to equip us effectively to enable us to carry out such task. This is common practice all over the world. As professional officers and soldiers, we did not want to go public with details of our frustrations concerning this operation because doing so will boast the moral[e] of our enemy. But the persistent neglect of our plight made us to do otherwise.

3. It is well known fact that of recent, a commanding officer from this theater of operation wrote a letter to our President intimating him of a few out of numerous problems affecting us in this operation which we believe Mr. President will address. It appears Mr. President has chosen to ignore it because none of his relations are among us. In this 21st century, how can an accused [be] a judge of his own case? That letter clearly exposed the rot within the military authorities concerning this operation. This is because, the Army authority that was accused of poor administration in that letter, set up a kangaroo investigation that harass[ed], intimidate[d], and forced the officer to deny the authorship of the letter.

4. We authoritatively learned that, the Army authority succeeded in forcing the officer to deny the letter through the Provost Marshal (Army) who happen[ed] to be of the same tribe with the officer concern[ed]. For President Goodluck Jonathan to ignore such kind of allegation made us to believe the rumor going round that he has a hand or knowledge in the so-called Boko Haram. We are also aware of how the funds meant for these operations are being looted through the office of the Chief of Training and Operations, Major General J.A.H. Ewansiha. Despite our strong [belief] in democracy, we condemn a democratic government that condones corruption, especially in its military. The President is reported to always turn a blind eye to issues of corruption. For instance, the ADC to Mr.President is presently one of the richest officers in the army. He owns properties in choice places all over the country and even abroad. We are going to make public details of his wealth and assets at the appropriate time.

5. We are appealing to all well meaning Nigerians and leaders of International Community to please speak out with loud voice in [order] to make President Jonathan to constitute an independent high-powered committee to investigate the content of that letter written to him by the commanding officer. Should this request be ignored, the resultant consequence could only be imagined.

6. We stand bold to state that we are speaking the minds of all the officers and soldiers in Operation Zaman Lafiya.

2) Samsung Galaxy S6 :

Samsung has made it a tradition to release a flagship device in "Galaxy S Series" and  2015 is not going go be an exemption.

Xperia Z4 may come as early as nextmonth , January 2015.

The OnePlus One delivered high-end specs at a budget price and we'd expect that formula to continue with the 2015 model. One upgrade we can predict is the arrival of Android 5.0 Lollipop to the OnePlus line-up, which should make it more appealing than ever.

Family / Re: How Often Do You Say "I Love You" In The Family?? by Marineremmanson(m): 3:08pm On Jan 10, 2015
striktlymi:
I am sure if I call my parents this minute and just say: "I love you folks", they would be very worried and probably call on their parish priest to say a prayer for me because I may just be going nuts.

I was shocked to the realization that since I was born I have never for once thought of saying the "L" word to my folks and siblings, let alone putting the thought to words. This is not saying that I do not love them nor does it imply that they do not see that I do.

Far from it, I do love them and they see it in my actions but the challenge comes when I am asked to voice it to them. I believe firmly that saying "I love you" to them is the right thing to do but it is just so difficult.

I am quite sure that the difficulty has a lot to do with the way I and my siblings were brought up. We never got around saying "I love you" to each other. The closest we got to using the "L" word in the family was when we pray and recite the "Jesus I love you..." prayer etc.

As a grown man, I find it strange that an individual would bring up his family devoid of a phrase so simple. It matters not if they show each other love....I believe that phrase should be used in the family multiple times daily as it helps with the bonding process.

A typical African man would never tell u "I love u" not that he doesn't love u but he believes it to b part of discipline. but thanks to civilization. But wait o. do u know that an African man has a way of telling someone I love u back in the 90's

Family / Re: 24 Things A Mum Teaches Her Daughter Before Marriage!! by Marineremmanson(m): 1:57pm On Jan 10, 2015
RoyalRoy:

My daughter, don’t cause a separation between your man and his siblings; it could be dangerous for you when they finally speak with one voice.

• My daughter, I know that some of you girls don’t wish to marry a man whose mother is still alive, don’t ever think like that, if you do, well, I think your son’s wife-to-be should start wishing you're dead now.

• My daughter, listen to me, when I married your father, he was as tiny as his salary but I chose to grow with him and today, those cars out there are some of the results of what we started so little, together, and we’re proud looking at them.

• My daughter, there is this thing i see happening in your time, some of you girls now get pregnant before the wedding day, well, it never happened in our time because no matter what, we never opened our laps before the wedding.

• My daughter, well, yes, I once locked up the cloth of your father because I got to my limit of patience and that was the only thing I could do, but one thing I haven’t said was that we settled the issue that same day and that was the last time I tried that.

• My daughter, look up there. That’s the wedding picture of your father and I, look at him smiling, I know you've seen it many times but what you did not know is that your father was angry before taking this picture, I hope you find a man whose anger doesn't last till the next day.

• My daughter, when your Father was riding a bicycle, I was always happy to hop on it and ride with him, not because I didn't see those men in their little cars but because my eyes also saw those men trekking to their farms.

• My daughter, if you and your husband eat a little food with love, you both would be satisfied. Times are not always the same; support him in every phase he’s passing through.

• My daughter, don’t ever close your laps to your husband in bed , the day he paid your dowry was the day you lost your will to do so, don’t be stiff and try to satisfy him even if you were angry with him.

• My daughter, a man would respect you and be more proud of you if you’re learned and not totally dependent on him. Strive to make your own money and while you're at it, be humble.

• My daughter, under the cocoa tree that I did meet with your Father was open and good enough for our discussions, yes; it was open and good enough if you understand what I mean.

• My daughter, in our time, we had sexy legs and firm bosoms to show our men , in fact, we had the finest ones, yet, when we dress, we cover those parts of our body, not because we were not civilized as you people would call it, but because we know that the eyes of men are hungry, many of them would only come, touch and go their way.

• My daughter, there is this thing you girls now practice, they say it’s feminism. Well, you can prove to be equal to a man in the society but please, not in your marriage because at my old age, I don’t want to start counting your husbands.

• My daughter, marriage is not a Rehabilitation Centre, if he’s not good enough for you before marriage, nothing he does would be good
enough after marriage.

• My daughter, you can see I still wear my night gown , yes, because to my husband; your father, I still want to look sexy. So, take good care of your body, look good for your man and don’t look like a grandma after giving birth.

• My daughter, I’m your mother and still, I'm not interested in you coming to me always if anything goes wrong with your husband. Though nowadays I see some mothers controlling the homes of their sons and daughters, I would only say; shame on them!

• My daughter, for you to have a peaceful home and well-trained children, have one voice with your husband, join him to say NO when he’s saying NO before the kids but later when you both are alone, you can plead with him for a YES, if not, the
children will see a loophole to misbehave, either to you or their father.

• My daughter, if you chose to live together with a man that you’re yet to be married to , and you are complaining that he hasn't proposed to you, oh, he already did. Whatever he said that made you start living with him was his proposal.

• My daughter, your generation does not see any pride in been a virgin before marriage, it’s a shame! Your father met me a virgin and he brought more yams to my parents and up till today, he’s still proud of me when we discuss in that direction.

• My daughter, I know that no man out there is complete, but when you are looking for your tall, slim, fair and handsome, if he’s a woman-beater, please, go for the short, fat, dark and ugly that will give you the respect you deserve as a woman.

• My daughter, know, learn and respect the culture and lifestyle of whoever you chose to marry . In some part of Africa, you knee down to greet your man’s parents while in some part outside Africa; you can even call them by their first name and ask for a
handshake. Whatever they believe in, if you've chosen him, believe it with him also.

• My daughter, don’t ever try to date a married man, whether his excuse was that he doesn't find happiness with his wife or he would have married you if he had met you first, if you ever try it, I curse you already.

• My daughter, when I say over 52 years of marriage , it wasn't that I did not see any reason to leave your father, I saw a lot of them but I bear his faults, i forgave him to stay married.

• My daughter, these are part of the wisdom i have gathered over the years. and If I had taken my time to tell you all these, and your marriage doesn't last like that of your father and I, then I had wished i never gave birth to you.

When it comes to mobile data Nigeria, the cost at which we purchase or subscribe for it is day by day becoming high.

The service providers are making a huge profit from the purchase of despite all the complains the youth keep on making to the NCC to help and get an affordable price that can suffice us.
As the year is just about to run out, I look back in retrospect to what i have spent for JUST data subscription in 2014.

From the starting of 2014 to its end, I have spent more than 18k for data in my N9,500 Tecno M3(almost twice the price of the phone) ranging from MTN to Glo,from Glo to Airtel and from Airtel to Etisalat.

So I want to know how much did you (nairalanders) spend for mobile data in 2014?

donjerz:
Hello nairalanders, i just feel like sharing with you how a Girl who used to be my close friend at my new place of resident suddenly turn to a BIG time enemy because of N500.

It all started when i moved to my new resident. I had no female friend till i met her. I was d first 2 talk to her (Though she do like stirring at me badly b4 now) and sense she already had a crush on me.

We became friends and i do visit her when am off work or lonely in my room. We started talking dirty and she like always wanna know if i had a girlfriend (always bleep her once she ask me). I ask her to give me her number buh she said ''she has no cellphone'' and ask me if i could buy her one. I do buy her food because she always tell me she hungry all d time. She do ask me help and favour rapidly.

One day, she branched at my place and show me BB Z10 phone that she bought newly and ask me 2 subcribe it for her. I was so surprise. I told her i dont have. ; She was so angry and sad buh later gave me her new number. In d evening of that day, she ping me on whatsapp and later ask 4 card after some line of chats but i told her its already too late and i can't go out. After some few days, we wer chating on a cold evening, and she ask me for N500 of which i told her i will give her wen she pass by my place 2 work in d morning. Unfortunately, i received a call and i travelled dat morning. I drop a msg on her whatsapp dat i'm not at home.

She flashed me severally in d car. When i got 2 my destination, i called her d next day and behold; she ask me ''Who is this''. I told her is me jerry, dont u have my number? She answered by ''hissing! Mctheeeeww'' and end d call. I could'nt believe myself. I called back and i had a Guy voice saying ''she is my babe, dont call her again. She dont wanna talk u''. I was shocked and i end d call.
So, i return back home and i did'nt talk 2 her again. I acted as if i don't know her self. So, she notice i dont talk 2 her again. She was just wondering. She thought i wil come and ask her why she did dat 2 me on d phone d other day, buh i keep her in d silent room. She came looking 4 me at home buh i dont stay often, so my brother keep telling me dat she asked of me.

So, nairalanders, should i talk 2 her or keep her in d dark and leave her with her worries? Because i'm so afraid she may turn me 2 ATM Machine if given a chance again 2 b friend with me. Lol grin grin grin

Politics / Re: 2015 Budget: Rich Nigerians To Pay More For Luxurious Lifestyle by Marineremmanson(m): 11:27pm On Dec 27, 2014
[quote author=diksucker post=29240075]At last, the Federal Government (FG) has signaled the implementation of the austerity measures it announced in the wake of the fall in price of crude oil in the international market.
While announcing the drop in oil price then, Minister of Finance and Co-ordinating Minister of the Economy, Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala hinted that the FG will adopt austerity measures that will cushion the effect of the slump in oil price on the economy, especially to ensure that it does not hit ordinary Nigerians hard.

In keeping that promise, during the presentation of the 2015 national budget to the National Assembly (NASS), the minister gave a breakdown on aspects of the luxurious lifestyles of Nigerians that government would slam tax on to support dwindling revenue. She listed that government intends to realize N3.7billion from 10% import surcharge on all new private jets entering the country; N1.6 billion from the imposition of 39% import surcharge on luxury yachts as well as another N2.6 billion to be realized from import surcharge on what government terms “luxury cars”.

Okonjo-Iweala explained, somewhat ambiguously, that wealthy Nigerians would pay more for air travel, as those who fly on business and first class tickets would be charged additional monies, but did not immediately state how much exactly. But she was categorical that passengers on economy class, mostly the middle class and poor Nigerians would have no such charges imposed, assuring that salaries of workers will also not be slashed.
Again, the FG said Nigerians who consume expensive champagnes, wines and spirits would have to cough out more to continue enjoying such luxuries in 2015, targeting N2.3billion to be realized from it based on a 30% surcharge on such products.

But what appeared like a bombshell – criticized by some Nigerians – is the imposition of one percent tax on residential mansions in the Federal Capital territory (FCT) on properties valued from N300 million and above. Okonjo-Iweala is targeting N360 million from such taxations annually.

Beyond luxury items, the FG said another N614bn would be fetched from a proposed increment of 5% on Value Added Tax (VAT), which all Nigerians pay, irrespective of social class or income. Other perks of office such as international travels and trainings would also be minimized to essential assignments alone and the FG hopes to realize N82.5billion from that. Also, N6.5billion would be saved from the proposed rationalization of government agencies as contained in the Oronsaya Report while N36 billion would be realized from the review of status exemptions granted some oil companies in the country. And another N44billion will be saved from curtailed expenses on procurement and upgrade of buildings among others, as relevant laws would be enacted in 2015 to give legal backing to areas not covered.
But in spite of the emphasis government placed on what is fast-becoming known as ‘Luxury Tax’, only N10.56 billion is to be realized annually, an amount many describe as a small drop in an ocean of needs. Dahiru Balami, a professor of Economics at the University of Maiduguri told Weekly Trust that taxing luxurious goods by the FG is in line with global practices for economies experiencing drop in national revenues. He said the case of Nigeria is peculiar because over the years, government at all levels hardly factor Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

“Government would need to strengthen the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to properly execute this new assignment or nothing will change. The persons involved are the wealthy, some of whom are decision-makers in the country. The collection mechanism must be strengthened for effectiveness,” he said.

A serving Senator told Weekly Trust that the National Assembly has always been wary of the consequences of the actions of the Executive, saying the government acts without thinking and proper planning. He said: “You would be surprised that Nigerians are not as poor as we are made to believe. Whatever measures being taken by the government is not targeted at the rich but will in one way or the other affects every facet of Nigeria.”

Johnson Odumah, a trader at Nyanya Market, said introducing additional tax on wealthy Nigerians is a welcome idea but he queried how much government thinks can be realized from the endeavour, saying most rich people would not pay the tax and government lacks the muscle to penalize them. “Except the government wears a new face,” he added.

Stephen Shaku, a civil servant, was pessimistic. He said no single government policy in the country has ever worked perfectly in the last couple of years, adding that when the night comes and the economic crunch bites harder, it is the poor Nigerian on the street that would suffer more.
But the Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) accused the FG of violating the Constitution and the Fiscal Responsibility Act in the presentation of the 2015 Budget to the NASS. It also said the recent austerity measures proposed by the government may not yield desired results. Lead Director of the CSJ, Eze Onyekpere, told Weekly Trust that the measures are not deep enough for the kind of fiscal challenge facing Nigeria. He said a “Luxury Tax” will not fetch much and can easily be avoided by the rich. “What is needed is deep and structured cuts to frivolous and wasteful expenditure like the N150billion vote of the NASS, which can be reduced to no more than N50 billion and the votes of the presidency - from the numerous jets to special advisers and assistants who add nothing to governance; funding of pilgrims and pilgrimages, et cetera,” he said.

Hon. Solomon Edojah, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain from Delta sSate told Weekly Trust that tax on luxury goods is a good initiative, but not realizable within the context of Nigeria. He also said Okonjo-Iweala’s response is rather spur-of-the-moment, when she should be a forecaster. He added that she said weeks back that the economy is stable and vibrant, but she is on reverse gear now. “There are no structures for this to happen in Nigeria. Apart from PAYE deducted at source, no other tax is effective and they know the problems, but no one has addressed them. What of people who bought big brand hotels, how much tax do they pay? Good governance must start in earnest, no matter who provides it,” Edojah said.

But General Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Comrade Peter Ozo-Eson, also a professor of Economics, expressed support for taxation of luxury goods, saying tax on some of the items should even go higher than government is prescribing.

“Tax on consumption of the super-rich is something that we support. In the light of the lopsidedness in income distribution where 10% control over 60% of the nation’s wealth, the only way to ensure they contribute fairly to nation-building is to tax the items that they consume. In some cases, one bottle of wine they consume is more than the annual salary of an average worker, so they be taxed heavily, not the 3% they are starting with,” he advised.

The probability of this economic control measure materialising in Nigeria is Zero point One. with respect to corruption

zik4ever:
Borno State deputy governor, Alhaji Zannah Umar Mustapha has said that no northerner in his or her right senses would vote for PDP in the 2015 general elections owing to what he described as the party’s inability to demonstrate good leadership in the country.
According to him, the Jonathan led PDP government was nothing but an empty vessel, which cannot give Nigeria the needed leadership, particularly at a time when the nation was facing serious insecurity challenges.
The deputy governor, who was speaking on Monday, at the Maiduguri Government House during the distribution of vehicles to supporters of the All Progressive Congress, APC, also told the gathering that if the Jonathan led government and the Nigerian military could not retake local government areas in Borno state, which were currently under the control of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, the Borno state government would mobilize youths and necessary equipments to win those local government over from the insurgents.
“Any northerner who votes for PDP in the next round of election is not supposed to be called a northerner because such a person is a disgrace to the north. We would do everything within our power as government to ensure we retake local government areas under the control of insurgents since the military and the Federal government has failed to do so”, the deputy governor said.
