I had to change my signature when i married cos my surname was the main part of my signature and quite legible so it got complicated me having a new surname and my signature being different. looking back its best to create a signature that has nothing to do with your surname for ladies - that way when you marry, nothing changes you just keep signing the old signature away ![]() Also as a lady it depends on how much you have done with your life and used the signature before marriage. If you have done much e.g shares, mutual trusts, landed property etc you now have to get bankers confirmations for so many accounts, share certificates change, etc it can be quite a bore. when my daughter grows up i will advise her to adopt a neutral style signature, the type that does not reflect your name to the visible eye. P>S i must say i have noticed that most men have such signatures - you could never guess their names by just looking at their signature |

pluto04 is t pluto04:ot i completely concur. this is why i wanted more details on your first degree and/or work experience. |
Hello, what is your first degree in and what is nature of your work experience. this will enable us advise you better. If i have to advise without having the above needed info, i would suggest you do an MSC in something else and then get a Prince 2 certification ( not the two week type but the full one). From my line of work i have seen that people prefer persons with specific qualifications e.g engineering, architecture, etc with a PM certification to back it up. Cheerio |
I am an HR professional and have been wondering seriously about these project mgt certifications - they seem to be the "in-thing". what do you think of them given my career path. i am torn between just doing one of those certificate courses as against a full PMP certification. what do you think? and which organisation would you recommend. thanks |
There is nothing to be done and they know it too. taking it up means exposing yourself and running the risk of your organisation accusing you of using inside knowledge of how they gain competitive advantage for your personal use. It happens all the time, you go to a bank with a feasibility study, which they reject and the next thing someone in the bank uses it to do the same job, you quote for a job and you are told you are too expensive only for the client to give the job to an insider using your quote for leverage. in summary he should just lick his wounds and move on or does he have written proof of it e.g a duplicate copy of his answer to their scenario. |

In Nigeria , i think we use the word 'friend' loosely . we have colleagues, neighbours, acquaintances , brother/sister in the church etc. everyone doesn't have to be a friend. U dont have to be friends, just get on nicely with everyone, be pleasant, co-operative etc identifying those with whom you need to have a good relationship to succeed job/career wise. At the end of the day, its no joy being unpleasant and having bad vibes cos lets face it the bulk of your day(s) are spent with colleagues and it can be a bit unsettling to be at close quarters with someone you have issues with. So be friendly not necessarily friends ![]() |
@usetime and Ajanlekoko, i feel both of you. When i entered uni, i had no proper feedback/info. I and my friends mentality was to just do enough to get a 2.2. i rocked the whole first year ( entered thru A levels and so did only 3 years) just doing enough to get by. In my third year it dawned on me that i needed to move up into 2.1 ( i now had info/feedback that had gingered me up). i had a classmate (a married woman NCE holder) who kept preaching to me about getting good grades but i just didn't pay enough attention. I spent the last year swotting like crazy . My grades left me a 3 points short of 2.1. so i ended up with a 2.2. i still kick myself about it cos i have seen my missed opportunities with my 2 eyes. I'm still doing fine professionally but i still wonder how better it could have been with the 2.1. Usetime has a point, unis need to properly induct students and give them real time feedback on their results/scores so they can make informed decisions. Some might argue this point that even if you have no feedback you are mean to study, that is another discussion. I had a friend who found out he would graduate with a 3rd class. rather than go home to face the wrath of his dad ( a lecturer . You don't know how embarrassing it is to have a 3rd class agree till you start job hunting ![]() |
Dis Guy:The fact is that most local companies are in default of this and other statutory labour laws e.g paid vacations, group life insurance. instead of the regulatory bodies doing their work, they are in siddon look mode. the only ones that try to obey labour laws are the multinationals. Even some nigerians dont want their employers to make deductions - cos they have no faith in the nigerian pension system. The bottom line is that if the poster feels so strongly, he could act as an anonymous whistle blower. the next thing Arik will do is say that they cant cope with the cost of so many staff that they will downsize and then staff will start to beg and the cycle will go round again. Most local companies are guilty of this - owing staff into the 2nd week of the following month. I feel you . This is how corruption is tacitly condoned. Don't employers like this wonder from where their staff get money to come to work. i tire for nigerian employers oh. Anyway guy chin up and i know you are looking out seriously for another job. |
I am a cross between A and C. I'm smart , ambitious but do buy into the ideals/dreams of whatever organisation i join while not losing sight of my own goals. I work as unto the Lord When i got my first job, my then mentor advised never to align with the negative and naysayer types - those people that pollute your spirit and try to draw you into their circle . That advice has stood me in good stead and i'm still aspiring to more. |
You could do CIA or NIM. NIM has more visibility but they way they dole out membership makes it look like a two a penny certification. I would suggest you do CIA. |
Seeing that you have already put in 7 years in the education sector, one could say you have inadvertently wandered into the education sector. Go ahead and do the PGD. It makes sense after so much time in teaching. If you dont you will never be considered a professional and promotions etc will pass you by and it will be used as an excuse when the school mgt wants to pass you by or govt comes up with one of its many new fangled policies. I want to assume you are teaching maths and technical related subjects. if you are this will stand you in good stead. you could also consider running home lessons if you have the time and energy for it. you could even later do a masters in schools mgt. have you thought of the possibility of one day opening a school. i 've heard that in lagos state it is a criteria for school ownership. No knowledge/certificate is lost. better to have it than to find yourself losing out for want of it. I could go on and on but i hope this answer will give you direction. |
I look forward to the day when anyone who cannot account for their wealth or their stewardship is called to question by the authorities. I have no beef against rich people but the source of their wealth needs to be known. i recall back in england, my dad used to tell us that if you were seen suddenly living above your means, the IRS would come called and if you cant explain it the police. this is the way it should be - do these people even pay tax. It is also a shame that we need the whites ( read whites of european stock) to do what our inept agencies will not or cannot do. I don't care where your state, tribe, religion, political leaning or all that hogwash, any one who does the crime should do the time. simple. and if they plea bargain, everything that they can not genuinely explain its acquisition should be taken from them. period. like someone said, it is one by one. |
When i got married, it wasn't with the mind that i wouldn't wash his clothes. I used to do the washing every weekend but if he needed to wear a shirt before wash day, he washed them himself. With time - children, work, all sorts of other pressure etc i have stopped. he washes and irons his clothes outside while our son washes his undergarments, hankies etc. Son is away at school and second son can't wash clean enough so i wash them now. we have no issues with this. he doesn't bother with my things and i don't bother with his although sometimes if i am washing for myself and kids he may hand over an odd shirt for me to wash if he needs to use it before the washman comes round. at the end of the day its all about what both of you are comfortable with. He hasn't complained about the system so i presume he's ok with it. Too many people like forming what they cant really perform in real life. i read a lot of posts on NL and am amazed at what people write sometimes - its amazing how being anonymous brings out the dark side in us. Summary; Dont mind those girls. if you surprise them one day and bobos house you will see them scrubbing the floor sef. |

I would advise you switch firms from the micro finance to the new one. the pay seems better and i'm sure you must have compared the cost of commuting and resumption, closing times etc to know if it is worth it. You didn't say where your skills/interests lie as well as the industry the new offer operates in as these would have been definite deciders when changing jobs. However based on your explanation, i would advise you move but keep looking for something more stable. the thing with most multinationals( esp those in production, manufacturing et al) is that contrary to what pple believe they don't pay so well ( except telcoms and O&G) but they respect and implement labour laws, are better structured and more stable and offer proper albeit sometimes slow career paths. |
I personally would not date a colleague or anyone who stays too close to me eg. same neighbourhood, if in school ( same faculty/dept) or in a place where we can bump into each other ever so often . It has been a policy of mine and has worked well - now i am married. Such relationships rarely end well and the lady is more often than not on the losing end as the guys usually move on faster and leave the girl feeling used. I also think that ladies get too clingy and emotional and don't know how to separate the relationship from the office setting. its usually the ladies that let everyone in on what is going on. I think it pains women more when the relationship has reached the sexual stage. |
Back in 1997, we rented rooms in the building ( a big bungalow) of one of the naval officers that died from his widow. She had 5 kids ranging from 16 - 8. She didn't seem to be doing too badly - had 2 shops in navy town, and was lucky that her husband had left her property and 3 cars ( the church she belonged to stopped the family from seizing all their brothers property). she claimed the kids were schooling free. One thing i do recall that she was always travelling to Edo State to try to claim the houses promised to the widows. each time she came back it was with stories of promises upon promises. She was a hardworking woman toughened by the incident seeing that she had been more or less a housewife up till the husbands death . The the last i saw of her kids was way back in 2000 but i hear they have done well for themselves. This is Nigeria |
They should pass this with the same speed they passed their own remunerations and allowances . it is now that they want to talk economics, inflation etc. useless people . it is now that they are raising committees and subcommittees and sub sub committees . They are just trying to keep money in the system to prosecute elections. shio |
As far as i am concerned, OGD and the PDP that he represents are a disgrace .calling on all ogun residents and indigenes to vote PDP out of ogun state. ![]() He is one person EFCC must track down by fire!!! |
The law is in place as stated by others before me but most of the time it is wiser to make peace and leave. I had issues with my landlord and at a point my husband was wanting to go to court but i counseled against it. Nigerian landlords can be one kind and i have seen it happen to people as well as to my dad when i was a kid. they will cut your light off in the pretext of fixing something, if there is water supply they will cut it off, if it is a bungalow, they will remove the roof under the pretext of fixing something. in short they will frustrate you unless you are someone that has liver for wahala. if you have kids that is worse, they will set their kids against yours in fact the list is endless and i haven't even mentioned the diabolical aspect of it. My advice is get a lawyer so the landlord knows that you know your rights but keep appealing to reason and request for time to relocate. it is tough but as some posters said we will not live forever in another mans house. |
I feel the poster. Couldnt afford UNILAGS fees and their timetable wasn't so worker friendly. their payment terms were also tough.I did my MBA at lasu. . Registered to start in 2001 but started in 2003. Finally finished in 2006. Got my certificate in 2009 - i made sure i pursued this diligently to the end. got the certificate on the last working day of Dec. I wont bore you will all the issues in between (lecturer begging for money etc). In my office i see all the part-time students - a poor reflection of our educational system. some can barely string 3 sentences together. they are always requesting for days off to write exams ( time table written on a scrap of paper), re-write exams cos the results and documentation of the previous ones are lost, resitting exams written semesters ago cos the result just came out for them to know they had carry-overs bla bla bla. I believe Lagos is taking advantage of the NUC directive ( which people say the then NUC chief Peter Okebukola was lobbied to make) that satellite campuses should be X no of kms from the main campus. LASU snapped up most of the campuses of the universities that had to pull out e,g UNICAL. I think they have bitten off more than they can chew as the PT has become a veritable cash cow. I personally don't hold state run unis in high esteem. With the way they are going education ma baje l'eko |
