It's still July 31. However lemme share from @Ayoola03 experience, she deferred her admission on the 5th May, and got it approved. Just make sure you mail your supervisor by the end of August, if nothing happens but I believe your approval will come pretty sooner than expected. Stay positive my dear. Cc: @Ayoola03 samjumbo: Thanks Markab. I am on funding. Would deferring my at that time because CIC couldn't meet up affect my funding Am really worried about this markab |

Hi samjumbo, try and wait till first week of September before sending a deferral request to your graduate program coordinator but ensure you inform your supervisor when you're so sure that you won't meet up with your initially proposed start date. Once that is done, the program coordinator will be the one to inform the SGPS, then like after 48hrs, you would be able to download a new offer letter on your student center. I hope this helps. samjumbo: At ayoola.. Who is the right person to contact for deferment at UWO? I know you have gone try this process.. Should it be once supervisor, graduate studies or department? Most things in UWO are decided on it the department I am aware. But confused at who I should contact if it comes to that?? |

Seconded Toluwaase: In my opinion, Canada and the US are great countries. One of the differences you might want to consider before you immigrate to any of the countries however is the prospect of becoming a citizen. It is way much easier to become a Canadian citizen or permanent resident in Canada than America, without marrying a citizen. Discrimination against immigrants in Canada is much lower, as it is now,Canada is welcoming immigrants as the US is sending immigrants away. |

Nice one madam. Let's keep this up for others to learn from Sevenody: Yeah. My husband has his own small business. So he included his CAC registration papers and tax card. We also dratfed a sort of job description listing his duties as the CEO. We did that to take place of letter of introduction from office, kind of introducing himself as Ceo. He also added his resume and school degree certificates.
Sorry I repiled the wrong person in my previous response. |

You're so on point sir. The best hometie for business owners in my own opinion is their businesses because they can convince the VO so easily that the venture would definitely bring them back unlike our so called employers that would be so skeptical or even decline to give you a reference/introductory letter. You "over make sense" bro wealth360: nice one Markab. Well in my own opinion it not all the various spouses works in an organization. What if they have their own businesses here in Nigeria? I think that will also serve as home tie becos you are coming back for your businesses and for those who are concerned you will need to proof that there is some1 available to manage the business while you are away. Most organizations are not happy you are going and leaving them so sometimes it very hard to get an introduction letter from them stating your job is waiting for you. The best in situation like that is to show you had a job at that time and also including all documents that shows you work there over the years you claim you have worked. Another home tie is the spouse immediate families. Including documents to show relationship that you have your family and your spouse familiy too. Hope I make sense small? |

It would be the best if only the company would be willing to grant you a leave of absence for work permit. Just my opinion l Toluwaase: In my opinion, one of the best home ties is your job. Apart from the letter from a prospective employer stating that you will be taking up a job in his or her company when you come back to Nigeria, I think a letter of approved leave of absence from your present employer is also a very good home tie, if not better. The leave of absence could be with or without pay. |

Wealth baba, let's discuss "hometie". If this trend of refusals due to ties to home country is anything to go by, It's however pertinent on us to prepare a very sound application that present a very convincing and acceptable home ties clearly stated in our letters of explanation or statements or purpose. I see a lot of people present land documents belonging to their parents. I really don't know the rationale behind this act but I think it's best if we declare our personal assets since it's a work visa and we are expected to have achieved some little things before getting married Also, we should endeavour to link our siblings/aged parents that we know we are responsible for as our ties to home country. Alternatively, I think if we can get a prospective employer to write us a letter that upon return, we would be employed as we would have garnered international experience and it would add value to their organization. I believe this should go a long way in convincing the VOs that we have every reason to return since it's a trv. CAVEAT: Those points above are outrightly my opinion and are subject to criticism. I'm still a learner. Let's discuss to keep this thread alive. Cc: Wealth360, BE811APP, VEIL1234 Your sincerely, TRV Toddler. wealth360: Anyone in this building? Well done bro. Keep the flag flying in Canada.. See you soon maziude: Bosses, Good Evening from Toronto Enroute Ottawa. My flight got delayed for some reasons. However, I am in Toronto now waiting to board the next flight to my new home Ottawa. Below is my travel experience.
In FLIGHT: I used Air Canada from Beijing. The flight experience was awesome though 12 hours long but enjoyable. 2 main meals and lots of in between. When we were about to Land, the pilot told those connecting locally, need to go through immigration, get their documents including permits etc and claim their baggage before connecting to their various destinations within Canada.
POE EXperience: POE: Toronto Intl Airport. If you are transiting through here, when you land, go straight to the "connection" area(follow the arrow). There are about 6 counters for that. When you get there, it is just the normal questions of where you are coming from and why are you here? After that, you will be asked to go into the main immigration office for documentations. This is where you get your study permit.
STUDY PERMIT PROCESS: Officer: Hello ...Bonjour Me : Hello Officer: Can I have your documents? Me: Gave him my passport, introduction letter from embassy, offer letter. Officer: What are you going to study? Me: Computer sciences Officer: PhD Me: Yes. He went through the offer letter and said Officer: You will be here for 4 years? Me: Yes. Officer: Okay, wait a moment let me print your permit.
Then later, he came back with and said crosscheck your details which I did. Then he said, if you want to work while studying, go to the next counter (Services Canada)for your SIN. After which he said, welcome to Canada and enjoy your studies.
Me: Thank you. So, I went the Services Canada counter for my SIN but could not get it since my I missed my connecting fligh. So, the lady suggested I go sort out the connecting flight and gave me a card to go to any of their offices for my SIN.
PS: I was not asked if I paid fees or not, neither was I asked to show proof of fund for studies. However, some guys were asked. One guy told them he has a scholarship and showed the document while someone else showed bank statement. It depends on the officer you meet. So stay calm and just answer truthfully.
Also, please allow time for connecting because there is a chance you might miss your connecting flight. My layover was 1hr25 minutes yet I missed the connecting flight. There were lots of people waiting too. but when it gets to your turn it is 2-3 minutes. But if you miss your connecting flight, no worries, just locate your airline in T1, which os the local departure area and they will help you with another flight.
Mehn, Canny fine.. I dey wait una sha...
To God be the glory...
It will end in praises.

Students are not eligible to be issued a work permit under the PGWPP if the program of study is less than eight months in duration or if they have previously been issued a post-graduation work permit. Students are also not eligible if they: *received funding from Global Affairs Canada (GAC); *participated in the Government of Canada Awards Program funded by GAC; *obtained the Equal Opportunity Scholarship, Canada-Chile; *participated in the Canada-China Scholars’ Exchange Program; *participated in the Organization of American States Fellowships Program; *participated in and completed a distance-learning program, either abroad or in Canada; or *completed a program of study granted by a non-Canadian institution located in Canada, regardless of their length of stay in Canada. CanadianNurse: I think recipient of government scholarships such as this are not legible to apply for post graduate work permit... I stand to be corrected though not really sure
So whoever wants to apply should research the pros and cons |

Well, try and get your gcms note ASAP, let's see the real cause and please ensure you write a very nice cover letter with a very captivating assurance that you would definitely return back to the country once your husband concludes his post graduation work experience to enable you complete your mandatory youth service (nysc) and also use the international work experience you guys would have garnered to develop our beautiful country Nigeria which was the essence of studying abroad in the first instance. @all, from my understanding on this thread and other international threads on SOWP, the rate of denial is kind of high now and it's observed that most of denials come as a result of ties to home country(i.e. The VO is not convinced that you would return) and personal asset(insufficient balance). Let's all prospective applicants and those refiring take these in to consideration and also develop a very good SOP. @BE811APP sir, your boy is loyal o. Thank you for checking up and not abandoning us Yours sincerely, Kabir adedoyen: No I didn't. I think I'm just going to wait for the GCMS to know the real reason for delay |
