Tithing lesson: Abram was rich in gold and silver and cattle (Genesis 13:2) Abram gave tithes to Melchizedek (Genesis 14:20) What Abram tithed was spoils of war and not of his own riches. (Hebrews 7:4) We know these were not Abram's own riches because Abram did not claim them as his own. (Genesis 14:22-24) Abram had promised God that he would not claim any of the spoils as his own (Genesis 14:22-24) According to today's monetary tithe teachers, we are robbing God if we do not tithe our money. Abram did not tithe his money, but instead tithed the goods of Bera king of Sodom. (Genesis 13:2; 14:20, 22-23; Hebrews 7:4) Conclusion: In order for preachers and teachers of the monetary tithe to be consistent, they must also believe Abram to be a God robber and teach their congregations that he was such. |
From what I see, the only way one can teach the monetary tithe is by inventing things that "could have happened. This is called "adding to the Word of God." To use the argument that the Apostles could have taught tithing is invention of man. We have the Word of God given to us by men who wrote as moved by the Holy Ghost to write. Had God wanted us to tithe, His Holy Spirit would have had man to pen that in His Holy Word. He did not. Acts 15:28-29 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things; That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well. The Holy Ghost did not see tithing as a necessary thing for Gentile Believers to observe. Many pastors tempt God by putting that yoke upon their congregations when God never gave such authority in His Word. Pastors are to Preach the Word, not inventions of the imagination. Proverbs 30:5-6 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar. |
OLAADEGBU: Either Jacob gave conditions for his tithes or not the fact remains that he vowed to give his tithes. There are different levels of giving tithes and that of Abram was the highest. The lowest reason for tithing is when you tithe because you don't want to be under a curse, a higher reason for tithing would be because you want a blessing but the highest reason for tithing is in appreciation of the blessings you received from God and this is what Abram did.please show me the Scripture that says Abram tithed because of being blessed? |
debosky: Sir, you've refused to say how God takes our tithes from us. Or don't you know what how means?Olaadegbu adds to the Word of God when he says "God will take it from you." There is not one instance in the Word of God that says God will take the tithe from you if you don't tithe. Even in ancient Israel, when they failed to tithe, God did not "take it" from them. Instead, He cursed the land with drought and locusts. But He did not take the tithe. This is evident by the fact that, while they were under the above mentioned curse, God instructed them to tithe in order to remove the curse. The curse was not "taking the tithe," they still owed it. |
OLAADEGBU: That detail was not given. If every detail was to be written down what book do you think can contain it?Proverbs 30:6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar. |
OLAADEGBU: Abram worshiped God with his tithes as he gave it to the priest of the Most High God, so do I. It is either you give God your tithes or He takes it from you. It's your choice.Scripture does not say Abram worshiped God with his tithes. You continue to add to God's Word. The tithes Abram gave to Melchizedek were not his own riches. Abram is never said to have tithed his own riches. Something you fail to admit. |
Candour: If it was a vow by Jacob, when did it become mandatory? If he was used to paying it before, why make it a special vow when its what you said he'd been doing all along like Abraham, Isaac ?Maybe Jacob forgot that he had been tithing all along? ROFL. Jacob's vow was on condition that God first meet certain requirements. One of those requirements was not met until nearly twenty-one years after the vow was made. There is no indication in the Word of God that Jacob actually fulfilled his vow. |
Olaadegbu says that he worships God with his tithes of money. Yet, God's Word reveals that God does not honor that worship at all. Matthew 15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. The monetary tithe doctrine was invented in 777 A.D. by the Roman Catholic popes and bishops. Centuries later, the Protestants and Baptists decided to go a whoring after that invented doctrine called the monetary tithe. Psalms 106:39 Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions. They have twisted the agricultural tithe that God established into their own works... a tithe of money. Then, they reveal their hearts of pride by exalting themselves for "paying a monetary tithe" while berating and belittling those of us who do not tithe. Proverbs 16:18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. |
OLAADEGBU: Lets see the Parallel Verses of Luke 18:12Nice taking a verse out of context to prove an unScriptural doctrine. Let's see the verse in it's context, shall we? Luke 18:9-14 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. Why, would you look at that... Jesus' telling of the prideful Pharisee was only a parable... an illustration. It never happened. It was an earthly story to convey a spiritual truth. The spiritual truth being that pride goeth before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. From International Standard Bible Encyclopedia: "In the more usual and technical sense of the word, "parable" ordinarily signifies an imaginary story, yet one that in its details could have actually transpired, the purpose of the story being to illustrate and inculcate some higher spiritual truth" Since the Pharisee in the story could not have tithed everything he owned according to the Levitical Law, we know the story to be nothing more than an illustration meant to convey a spiritual truth to the self-righteous Pharisees. Also, when studying about the characteristics of the Pharisees, we find they were notorious for lying about doing things that they never did. Jesus said: Matthew 23:3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. They say they do things that they do not do. Since the Levitical Law defined what the Levites could receive as tithe, the Pharisee in Jesus' illustration was lying to say he tithed everything he owned. |
OLAADEGBU: Our Lord Jesus Christ endorsed tithing when He said these timeless words:The Lord did say tithing ought to be done. Tithing of what? mint, anise, and cummin. And why did the Lord say the tithing of mint, anise and cummin should be done? Because the scribes and Pharisees were required to tithe any agricultural products as per the Levitical Law. Money was not titheable. Jesus never said to tithe money. |
Scripture nowhere says tithing is 10% of one's income. That is a man-made doctrine that was invented in 777 A.D. by the Popes of the Catholic Church. The monetary tithe was not taught be the Protestant Church until centuries later... 1873, to be exact. And the last Church to embrace that unScriptural doctrine were the Baptists, in the middle of the twentieth century. |
I don't see the word "tithes" in those verses. Why do you insist they are speaking of tithes? I have already pointed out that Paul was a Benjamite. As a Benjamite he was not qualified to take tithes of anyone. You accuse me falsely, while it is you who adds to Scripture. |
I am not adding to the Word of God at all. When Paul said not to muzzle out the ox that treadeth out the corn, did he mention tithes in that passage at all? NO! Not once are tithes mentioned in any of Paul's epistles. All Paul was stressing in that passage that a preacher of the Gospel has the right to accept gifts from the hearers of the Gospel. He nowhere implied at all that those gifts were to be tithes. You add tithes into that passage when they are not even implied. Paul said in that passage: 1 Corinthians 9:12 If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ. 1 Corinthians 9:15 But I have used none of these things: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done unto me: for it were better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void. Notice that Paul said he had the right to be partakers of that power, but that he did not accept anything from the Corinthians. Tell me OLADEGBU, how could Paul have been speaking of tithes in that passage? Paul was a Benjamite and as such was not qualified to receive tithes. The Levites received the tithes, not the Benjamites. Given the tribe that Paul was born into, it is clear he was not speaking of tithes at all in his address to the saints and brethren in Corinth. |
OLAADEGBU: "Render therefore to Caesar the things which be of Caesar's, and to God the things which be God's"Not this man-made monetary tithe that is being taught today. God defined in His Holy Word what His Holy tithe consisted of. That being, crops and livestock from within the boundaries of national Israel. For man to teach that it is something other than what the Word declares is to teach contrary to the Word. Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. A man who has the Light of God in him will speak according to what is written in the Word of God. He will not teach in contradiction to what the Word of God says. Proverbs 30:6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar. The Word of the Lord is pure. But when man handles the Word deceitfully, (as those who teach the monetary tithe do) God Word says they are found to be a liar. |
There is no verse in the Bible that says the heave offering was offered at the altar. |
Matthew 22:15-22 Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk. And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men. Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's. When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way. The above passage is often used by pastors in an attempt to convince Christians that they are to tithe their money to the Church. The argument is: "The Word says we are to render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's. This means we are to pay our taxes. The Word goes on to say "and unto God the things that are God's. That means we are to pay tithes. The tithe is holy unto the LORD, so we are to tithe." But wait! Is that what the passage of Scripture actually says? Let's take a look again, shall we? Jesus asked the deceitful Pharisees for a penny. When they brought it, he asked whose image and superscription was on the penny. Their answer was that Caesar's image was on the penny. Now, when Jesus said "Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's," He simply was saying, "Because Caesar owns the money, you are to give back to Him what is his." But then Jesus said they were to give "God that which belongs to God." Was Jesus speaking about money when He said to give God that which belongs to God? I don't believe He was. I believe He was speaking of service; i.e., giving oneself to God. Notice: Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. Just as the Roman penny was made in Caesar's image, man was made in God's image. Jesus wants man to give himself over to the Father, to present themselves as a living sacrifice, holy (set apart) acceptable unto God. This is not something unreasonable at all. It is reasonable. So, Matthew 22's passage above is not in reference to the tithe. This can be confirmed when one compares Scripture with Scripture. The Levitical tithe Laws were still in effect at the time Jesus answered those Pharisees. The Levitical tithe Law did not call for a tithe of money, but of agricultural nature; i.e., crops and livestock. |
Don't let a pastor guilt you into tithing by telling you you are "robbing God" if you don't tithe. Instead, ask him to show you Scripture that says we are to tithe our money. If he goes to Matthew 23:23 or Luke 11:42, (the standard New Testament verses) point out the fact that the tithe was not money, but garden spices and herbs. If he goes to Malachi 3:8-10 (the standard 'robbing God' passage) point out that that tithe was not money but food, i.e.; crops from the Israelite farms. If he goes to Genesis 14:18-20 (the standard 'tithing was before the Law' passage) point out that Abram did not tithe his own money, (Genesis 13:2) but rather spoils of war that belonged to Bera king of Sodom, of which he had promised God he would not keep as his own (Genesis 14:22-24) Then ask, "Are you going to be consistent and say that Abram was a God robber since he did not tithe his own money?" |
Bidam: This is you inferring again with private interpretations.God gave Paul the revelations about the blood covenant and that was why he could write hebrews quoting copiously from the OT because he understood the mosaic law.Go back and read Hebrews fROm chapter 1 to 13 and you will see the synergy.MAKE SURE YOU STUDY AM WELL WELL,THEN COME BACK For DISCUSSIONNot private interpretation at all. The context shows Paul is speaking of reaping carnal things. God's tithe was not carnal. God said the tithe was "Holy unto the LORD." And look at verse 12. 1 Corinthians 9:11-15 If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things? If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ. Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar? Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel. But I have used none of these things: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done unto me: for it were better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void. If Paul were speaking of the tithe, he said they would not receive it lest they hinder the Gospel. There is no way Paul was speaking of receiving tithes in 1 Corinthians 9. Context clearly proves he could not have been speaking of tithes. Go back to Leviticus 27 and see how God saw the tithe. |
Image123: Are you trying to say something? Please be more lucid. That the Apostle was not speaking of tithes in 1 Corinthians 9:14 is easy to see when one reads the verse in its proper context. Notice the Apostle said he had used none of these? Paul could not have been speaking of tithing. He was a Benjamite. Benjamites were not authorized to receive tithes. Only Levites could receive the tithes. Also, Paul related how it was lawful for him to reap their carnal things. According to Leviticus the tithe was holy... not carnal. Paul could not have been speaking of tithes in that passage. |
Zikkyy: God's tithe been abolished, pastoral (version of) tithe is remain.Pastors who teach a monetary tithe teach for doctrine the commandments of man. Jesus said because of that, their worship is vain. Matthew 15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. |
AlwaysTrue, You say the tithe has not been abolished. I believe it has been abolished. But if it has not, it still has nothing whatsoever to do with one's own money. Prior to the Law, it was of the spoils of war. But under the Law, it was agricultural only; i.e., crops and livestock. There is no instruction in our Holy Bible whatsoever for the child of God today to tithe his or her money. |
Bidam: This post is full of extreme errors, i agree that majority of the biblical references of the tithes are part of the old covenant but it is erroneously wrong and very unscriptural of you to say tithing was introduced under the law. Tithing was merely regulated under the law and i have explained to you guys the main reason why God instituted the tithes in the first place. The Word of God is clear. The commandments contained in ordinances have been abolished. Tithing is an ordinance according to Malachi 3. It, along with all ordinances, has been abolished by Jesus Christ Himself. Notice at the Jerusalem Council, how the religious leaders wanted to make the Gentile Converts "keep the Law of Moses." What did the Apostle Peter tell them? "Why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?" And what did James follow with? He told the Council that it seemed good to the Holy Ghost and to the Apostles that the Gentiles only need observe four necessary things. Funny, tithing was not in that list of necessary things. Even funnier, there is no instruction given to the Gentile Churches to tithe... not even in the "pastoral epistles" to Timothy and Titus. One would think there would be instruction in the pastoral epistles mentioning tithes, since those epistles were instructions on the operation of the New Testament Churches. Yet the teaching of tithing is suspiciously absent from those epistles. Why the silence from the Apostles on the subject? Why were tithes not taught in the Church until 585 A.D., when they were written into the Roman Catholic Church bylaws at the Council of Macon? Why were monetary tithes not written into Church bylaws until 777 A.D.? Why no mention of monetary tithing in the Protestant Churches until 1873? Why no mention of tithing in the Baptist Churches prior to the middle of the twentieth Century? The answer is simple. Jesus Christ abolished the tithe ordinance, just as the Word of God tells us He did. Hence, no need for the Apostles to teach it. Had they taught it, they would have been teaching contrary to the doctrine that they had received and would be anathema. Because the Apostles did not teach it, It was not taught in the early Christian Church. The Catholic Church revived the Levitical tithe in 585 A.D., modifying it to a tithe of crops and livestock, not to Levites, but to the Priests of the Catholic Church. They then amended the tithe to that of a monetary tithe in 777 A.D.. The monetary tithe is not of God. It is man-made. |
nora544: I hear of this problem also, but at the modern times with the ebooks there must be an other way to sell this book. We must find a way for this good Pastors that they can tell the right gospel.God is not going to tell that pastor to do something contrary to His Written Word. God's Word says the ordinances were abolished. God is not going to tell someone to observe an ordinance that His Word says is abolished. That pastor is not hearing from God if he is saying God told him to receive tithes. Rather, he is hearing from a lying spirit. |
I also have written a book, "Will A Man Rob God?". It is only 56 pages, but shows the reader that the one who is robbing God is not the one withholding tithes. Rather, it is the one who takes tithes of the people. Jesus Christ abolished the commandments contained in the ordinances. (Ephesians 2:14-15) Tithing was an ordinance (Malachi 3:7-8 ) Tithing is not for the Christian Church. |
Anti-Tither's really need no warning. They need encouraging. Encourage them to continue standing against the unScriptural requirement of a monetary tithe. There is not one verse in the entire Bible that instructs the New Testament Christian to tithe his or her money. Not one. Matthew 15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. Men should not teach the monetary tithe doctrine, telling their congregations that God requires that tithe. When they do, Jesus says their worship is in vain. |
Something to think about... Is it right for Pastors to use Malachi 3:8-10 in order to make you feel like a "God robber" because you fail to tithe your money to the Church you attend? When they preach on Abram's tithe, do they tell you he was a "God robber" too? If not, perhaps they should. After all, Abram tithed the spoils of war to Melchizedek (Genesis 14:20; Hebrews 7:4) but did not tithe his own money (Genesis 13:2) If not tithing one's money means one is a "God-robber", then surely Abram fits the description of a "God-robber" by that definition. Why is it wrong for us today to not tithe our money, but perfectly acceptable for Abram to not tithe his? or for the Israelites to not tithe theirs? |
Omexonomy: This issue of tithing is becoming serious day by day.The Word of God is always right. When teaching their congregation that God expects them to tithe, many pastors will tell them to turn to Genesis 14 and see that Abram tithed before the Mosaic Law was established. After reading this passage, the pastor then tells his congregation that this means that since tithing pre-dates the Mosaic Law, and is found within the Mosaic Law, it is to be kept and observed today for it is an eternal moral principle for all people of all ages. But is this true? Is it an eternal moral principle for all people of all ages? Let’s compare today’s monetary tithe to Abram’s tithe and see what the similarities are, if indeed there are any… There is only one recorded instance of Abram tithing to Melchizedek found in the Word of God. Do pastors teach that Christians only need to tithe once as Abram did? That which Abram tithed was not wages earned for a day-to-day job. It was from the spoils of war. Do pastors require tithes from day-to-day jobs? or from the spoils of war? Abram tithed to Melchizedek only after he had been refreshed with natural food and drink. Do pastors feed you natural food before requiring their monetary tithe? Abram’s tithe included clothing. Do pastors tell you to tithe clothing? Abram tithed what did not even belong to him. He had promised God he would not keep any of the spoils lest Bera have the opportunity to say he had made Abram rich. Do pastors expect you to tithe that which belongs to another man? or that which belongs to you? (yes, I know God owns it all, but the fact is, that which He owns, He gives to us. There are enough verses to show this as a fact) Abram did not tithe to a Church or a Temple. Does your pastor tell you you can tithe anywhere else other than the Church? As the diligent student of the the Word of God can see, that which is being pushed off as “tithes” today nowhere resembles that which Abram tithed to Melchizedek. It is nothing short of nonsense to try to justify tithing by going to Abram’s tithe to Melchizedek. Was Abram’s tithe continued in the Mosaic Law? When comparing the account in Genesis 14 with the tithe that God required under the Mosaic Law, one will see that Abram’s tithe didn’t even resemble God’s Holy tithe under the Mosaic Law. Notice: According to Leviticus 27, God's Holy tithe was of crops and livestock. That chapter reveals to us that God said the tithe Law was "for the children of Israel". It was not for peoples of other tribes or nations than the children of Israel. Deuteronomy 14:22-29 reveal two more tithes that also were of that which could be eaten. "eat the tithe before the Lord thy God." Feed the widows, orphans, Levites on your properties, and the foreigners taking refuge in your cities. Nehemiah 10:37-38 record that the tithes were taken to the Levites and then the Levites would take a tithe of the tithe to the storehouse chambers. Scriptures pertaining to the Mosaic Law reveal that the tithe God required of the children of Israel and the Levites was strictly agricultural. Is this the same as the tithe that Abram gave to Melchizedek? No! Abram’s tithe included articles of clothing. Further, in Numbers 31, we read that God required far less than a tithe from the spoils of war… Again, the tithe Abram gave to Melchizedek cannot be likened to the tithe God required of the children of Israel. Now, one may argue that Israel was strictly an agricultural nation while under the Mosaic Law. Many claim that money was scarce in that time. Yet the Word of God reveals just the opposite… The fact is, there were men of many trades and occupations that came out of Egypt and much gold and silver was also taken from Egypt by the Israelites. Psalms 105:37-38 He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes. Egypt was glad when they departed: for the fear of them fell upon them. I must also refer the reader back to the passage found in Leviticus 27:30-34. There, we see that the farmer could buy his tithe back from the Levite if he wanted. This proves that money was not scarce at all. The farmers had money to buy back the tithe after they tithed. The second tithe could be sold according to Deuteronomy 14. So, not just farmers had money, but others had money as well. Money was always readily available. Also, according to Exodus 30, even the poor had money. Every male above 20 years of age was required to pay a half shekel Temple tax yearly. People had money, yet money was not tithed... crops and livestock only were titheable. Today’s monetary tithe does not resemble the Mosaic Law tithe, nor does it resemble the tithe Abram gave to Melchizedek. All three tithes are so much unalike in their elements and particulars that it is foolish to attempt to justify one by giving as an example another. So, where did the monetary tithe doctrine come from? Not from the Word of God! Not one verse in either the Old or New Testament concerning tithing instructs one to tithe one’s money. Again, where does it come from? From the invention of man. Sadly, so many have believed the monetary tithe invention of man and elevated it to the same level (if not higher) as the Gospel itself. Psalms 106:39 Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions. |
[quote author=Sen_o2yelu]Nice write-up bro, some pastors have created so much fear in †ђε heart of their members that †ђε congregation no longer care about what God says but rather what their pastor tells them. from my personal blog, written July 30,2012... Extortion: The obtaining of property from another induced by wrongful use of actual or threatened force, violence, or fear, or under color of official right. Spanning from 1959 to 1963, Robert Stack starred as Federal Agent Eliot Ness in the TV series “The Untouchables”. Eliot Ness worked hard at cleaning up the streets of Chicago, ILL after the city was infiltrated by many crime bosses who would extort money from store owners using strongarm tactics, threats, and often gunplay and murder. Extortion was a serious offense and carried a stiff sentence in the Federal Penitentiary if one was convicted of it. Eliot Ness did not go easy on those who tried to extort money from the citizens of Chicago using scare tactics. Today, we can glean from the many episodes of “The Untouchables” an important spiritual truth. That truth is, just as crime bosses answered to Eliot Ness for their misdeeds, those who offend God’s children will also one day answer to God. Many a pastor today stood behind a pulpit and preached a message that was meant to extort money from their congregation through a sermon that was “under color of official right” That message is taken from Malachi 3:8-10…. “Will A Man Rob God?” Many a pastor had his congregation open their Bibles to Malachi 3:8-10 and read the passage that chapter 1 reveals was to the children of Israel. They then try to bring the letter to Israel out of Israel and into their city or town in their own country. They preach to their congregation that they are “robbing God” because they are not bringing the tithe of their income to the house of God. The pastor continues to inform his congregation that if they do not begin to tithe their money, God will attack their finances, their home, their families, their health, their jobs, their vehicles; the list could go on and on. Friends, that message they are presenting fits the legal system’s definition of extortion. They are trying to instill fear into your mind, fear of disaster, if you don’t get protection. They then tell you how to get protection… pay 10% of your income to God! Friends, that is extortion through and through. They preach the message of a 10% tithe “under color of official right,” but if one studies out the specifics of God’s Holy tithe, one will discover that they have no “official right” to collect a tithe from their congregation. The tithe was limited to within the boundaries of national Israel and was to be given to the Levites who were living in 48 cities. It was never authorized to the New Testament Church. God’s tithe was also never money according to Leviticus 27 and Numbers 18. Shame on those pastors who are guilty of extorting money from their flock! They one day will answer to God for handling His Word deceitfully and oppressing His people with fear tactics under the guise of “official right.” Friends, God’s Holy Word tells us in 2 Corinthians 9:7 that we are to give as we purpose in our own hearts to give. A tithe does not allow one to purpose what they will give. A tithe is a set amount…10%. How is one purposing in one’s own heart what to give if he is giving 10% because his pastor told him that is what he is supposed to give? The fact is, giving what your pastor determines is nothing more than giving of compulsion… giving because you have to. Notice 2 Corinthians 9:7… 2 Corinthians 9:7 (KJV) Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. The word “purposeth” is translated from the Greek word “proaireomai”, and it means “to choose for oneself”. A pastor has no “official right” to tell his congregation to give 10% of their money to the Church. God’s Word tells the congregation to “choose for oneself” what one wants to give. God did not tell that pastor to preach to his congregation that they must tithe their money. Nor did he tell that pastor that the congregation would be cursed if they didn’t tithe their money. Friends, give to the Church. The Church does need money to pay for electricity, sanitation, etc.. But give what you choose for yourself to give, not what someone else tells you you must give. If you are giving a set amount because you have been told by your pastor to give that amount, then you are not giving according to God’s instructions. |
pstbolanta: if you give your tithe to the needy and d poor,God almighty will be pleased with u.God never recognized a tithe of money in the Bible. I highly doubt He recognizes it now. His Holy tithe was of crops, fruit, and livestock only. |
vowiski: They are no longer Levites again, once the Temple was destroyed (Matt 24:1-2), the duty of the levites ceased. The Levites carried the sins of the nation and brought unto God.Is there a verse that says God gave an inheritance to the Levites after the cross? I know of none that say such. Levites must still exist on the Earth today, for they are of the sealed in Revelation; 12,000 children of Israel. In order for them to be sealed, they have to exist. God said they would have no inheritance in the land for ever throughout their generations. I have to go by what I read in the Bible. I also must stress that the Levites were to receive tithes from no other nation but the nation of Israel. This means that Americans cannot tithe, Russians can't tithe, Germans, Italians, Swedes, Nordish, etc.; none other than descendants of Jacob could tithe. |
