Enough of this witch hunting. Am not a member of any political party, neither am I supporting corruption. but when the fight against corruption is one sided and media persecution, then it becomes a child's play. The present APC we have today consist of about 50% of PDP members, what happens to the likes of Amechi, Atiku e.t.c are we saying the guys that ruled under APC led states are all innocent?? I will start supporting this fight against corruption as soon as I see names of politicians from APC, otherwise, the present government is wasting its time and trying to sell to Nigerians what they want to hear and cover up for their Maladroitness (ineptitude) |

Seun/moderator, please, I want this to make front page, I live in GBETU community in Ibeju-Lekki Local government. Some time last year, we found out that the capacity of our transformer could not serve the entire community, so we decided to shut down the old 300kVA transformer, contribute money and buy an additional 300kVA transformer. PHCN staffs asked us to pay 2.8 million naira for installation, but because we felt the amount was outrageous, we got another PHCN contractor who lives in the same community to do the job for 1.6 million naira. Because of this action, PHCN has refused to connect us to the national grid and it is now 6 months. Please we want all the relevant authority to act because we have exhausted all options at our disposal.

Mr. Mohammed revealed that there was not enough money in the department of tourism to cover the expenses of his trip to China. SaharaReporters then asked whether multiple letters requesting “loans” were also sent to various government agencies and parastatals under his watch, which Mr. Mohammed replied, “I do not owe you an obligation or duty to tell you that.” SaharaReporters has obtained a letter written on behalf of the Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed to the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) requesting a loan of N13,120,470. The letter, authored by the Director of Public Relations and Protocol, NPD Dama, begins by stating “I am directed to inform you [NBC] that the Honourable Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed is proceeding on official assignment to China on Sunday, 15th May 2016. It then continues, “the Honourable Minister has therefore approved that you loan the Ministry the total sum of (N13,120,470) thirteen million, one hundred and twenty thousand four hundred and seventy Naira only to enable him and his team embark on the China trip to carry out the assignment.” Mr. Mohammed confirmed the existence of the loan to a SaharaReporters correspondent saying “it’s not unusual when the ministry wants to do something but you don’t have enough funds you ask one of your parastatals under you to provide the funds for the trip.” “While we are waiting for the appropriate head to have the money you can go to any of your parastatals and ask, give us the money and when we are funded we will return the money to you,” he added. Mr. Mohammed also told our correspondent that he could not access his Ministry’s budget because it has only just now been approved. Worried about how the memo was leaked, Mr. Mohammed said, “I am so disappointed that an internal memo like that would be with SaharaReporters, it shows a lack of integrity in the ministry.” When SaharaReporters began questioning why Mr. Mohammed requested a loan from the NBC, and not from a tourism parastatal since the trip is for tourism investment, he responded by saying “the way the ministry is run is not the subject of public discussion.” Later, however, Mr. Mohammed revealed that there was not enough money in the department of tourism to cover the expenses of his trip to China. SaharaReporters then asked whether multiple letters requesting “loans” were also sent to various government agencies and parastatals under his watch, which Mr. Mohammed replied, “I do not owe you an obligation or duty to tell you that.” When our correspondent pushed the minister to offer a breakdown of the trip costs he again stated: “that I do not owe you any obligation to tell you that.” SaharaReporters then asked: “don’t you owe the public explanation for how you spend their money?” To which Mr. Mohammed said, “I do not.” http://saharareporters.com/2016/05/12/nigerias-information-minister-lai-mohammed-takes-loan-nbc-pay-his-china-trip

The senate has refuted claims that there is a national grazing bill pending before it, saying the document presented to the preceding upper chamber had expired since June 2015. Babajide Omoworare, chairman, senate committee on rules and business, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday. He said such bill had not been presented to the 8th Senate, but recalled that a bill relating to the issue was presented to the 7th senate. “Several distinguished senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria have been inundated with the request by members of the public concerning a national grazing bill in the senate,” the statement read. “This is to clarify that no such bill has been presented by the executive arm of government and none has so far been filed by any senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the 8th senate. “For the avoidance of doubt, a ‘national grazing reserve establishment and development commission bill (SB. 60)’ was presented by Senator Zaynab Kure (Niger Central) during the 7th Senate (2011–2015). “That Bill has now expired by the operations of law on the 6th June, 2015, in furtherance of Section 64(1) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.” Earlier at plenary, Eyinaya Abaribe (PDP Abia South), who raised a point of order, said there was no such bill. He had said many of his constituents had called him over the bill, and urged the senate to come out with clarifications “so that Nigerians can know the true position’’. https://www.thecable.ng/national-grazing-bill-has-expired-says-senate

The Lagos State Government on Wednesday said it would no longer allow indiscriminate parking of vehicles on the road networks across the state on the basis of queuing up for Premium Motor Spirit otherwise known as fuel, just as it threatened to sanction any erring filling stations and motorists who flout the directive. Rising from the weekly State Executive Council Meeting, the government said it can no longer tolerate the attendant traffic gridlock associated with the indiscriminate parking of vehicles on the road, adding that the enforcement on the directive would commence immediately from today (Thursday). While addressing a joint press briefing at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, said as much as the government empathized with the people on the difficulties they have been subjected to as a result of shortage of petroleum products, it would however not watch and allow the situation cripple the flow of traffic in the state. Mobereola, who addressed journalists alongside the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde and heads of all the government agencies involved in traffic management in the state, said the resolution of the State Government was borne out of the need to prevent the fuel shortage from degenerating into a state of anarchy. He said: “Having empathized with the citizens, we are all aware that it is important to keep certain things in check and this is why we are addressing this press briefing in sync with the Pipelines and Product Marketing Company (PPMC) and the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) to send a strong signal to those who do not appear to be very mindful of the law particularly in the manner in which they are administering the sale of fuel all over time.

Antonio Conte will become the next permanent Chelsea manager after Euro 2016, the club have confirmed. Last month, Italian football federation (FIGC) president Carlo Tavecchio announced that Conte will step down as Italy coach when his contract expires after the European Championship, adding that the 46-year-old had told him that he wanted to "get back to day-to-day coaching." Chelsea have now confirmed that Conte, who has signed a three-year deal, has been chosen as the full-time successor... http://www.espnfc.com.ng/chelsea/story/2829916/chelsea-confirm-italy-boss-antonio-conte-as-next-manager

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project says the protracted scarcity of fuel in Nigeria amounts to a violation of the United Nations International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights by the Nigerian government. The group, in a statement on Monday by its Executive Director, Adetokunbo Mumuni, noted that the protracted fuel scarcity had not only deprived Nigerians of unquantifiable economic opportunities, but it had also subjected them to unwarranted torture, cruel and degrading experiences. SERAP said it was time President Muhammadu Buhari, who doubles as the Minister of Petroleum Resources, rose up to the occasion to find a permanent solution to the fuel scarcity crisis in Nigeria. The group, which noted that the fuel scarcity crisis predated the Buhari government, stressed that what Nigeria needed is a permanent solution and not “the quick fix and the short-termism that characterised the policies of successive governments.” SERAP said, “Despite the country’s commitment under the UN International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (Nigeria ratified the Covenant in October 1993), successive governments since the return of democracy in 1999 have failed to ensure availability of fuel nationally, thereby rendering already impoverished citizens incapable of satisfying their minimum needs for survival.” “The current development has perpetrated a string of misfortunes for the citizens: poor living conditions, ill-health, marginalisation, and an inability to enter into the life of society and assume responsibilities. “This situation is entirely inconsistent and incompatible with Nigeria’s human rights commitments, and cannot be justified given that Nigeria is among leading producers of oil in the world. “Indeed, the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights itself has recognised poverty as a violation of the obligations assumed by states parties under the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights to which Nigeria is a party. “The President must now urgently address the continuing problem of fuel scarcity and to ensure full and unhindered supply of fuel throughout the country by sorting out the refineries and addressing the systemic corruption in the sector. This is the time for President Buhari to address accountability issues around the fuel subsidy fraud.” It challenged Buhari to send a strong message to that his government will not tolerate a situation which permitted a few to enrich themselves at the expense of the masses who are subjected to growing poverty. It added,“This situation is incompatible with the letter and spirit of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, and constitutes a serious violation of the Covenant’s provisions. The President should send a strong message that his government will not tolerate a situation under successive governments since the return of democracy in 1999 which permitted increasing wealth for some and perpetrating a growing poverty for others.” https://www.today.ng/news/national/101691/end-fuel-crisis-now-serap-tells-buhari

No, this is not about what you think. There is no need saying anything further about the twin evil plaguing the land: petrol scarcity and little or no electricity supply. If we are not confronted with the rent-a-quote crowd who are quick in telling us what a foreign leader thinks about our peripatetic president, leaders and their aides talking down on us on how long it will take to clear the mess they met on the ground assault us. Even if we pardon the latter as it is their style in this clime, what do we say of an army of supporters who type on their keyboards usually plugged to a generator running on petrol bought at anything between N150 to N220 per litre and still do not see anything amiss? Surely, we need more mental health experts in Nigeria. But this is about football, especially our national team, the Super Eagles. There’s something about football that makes a person go to any length to watch it spending any amount and with so much sadness around us, it is one of the few things that make citizens happy. Even when some of our compatriots who could not afford the subscription fee of the satellite TV operators, they will still squeeze themselves in dingy rooms or shacks surprisingly called ‘viewing centres’. Too often the Super Eagles’ performance have been doing yoyo with Nigerians’ emotion. Up today, down tomorrow, and like most things in our land, you never know what to expect but you are prepared for the worst. And that was what happened in our failure to qualify for the Cup of Nations. After the first leg here in Nigeria which we drew having conceded a goal at the dying minutes, I told my son that we are out of the Nations cup. A boy whose devotion to anything football surpasses mine and who has not experienced the pain and agony of following the Super Eagles, he kept hoping that his countrymen would do him proud. He enthused over Alex Iwobi and Victor Moses who illuminated the field that day with their skills and work rate, but I knew deep in my mind that our journey to Gabon has been aborted even before take off. Last Tuesday was not different even as many Nigerians watched the game played in Egypt with power supplied from generators. Our players did their best but majority of those who played that day had no vim, pace and craft. They were passengers on the field and it was sunset for some of the senior members of the team, as they seemed intent on telling us that Nigeria does not need them any longer. Of course, we saw a glimpse of the future too. We saw those who could lead us to the Promised Land, properly guided. And that is the crux of the matter. We don’t have pilots for the journey ahead in football issues. The body saddled with that responsibility, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) couldn’t take us anywhere. With three coaches in three years and a wild goose chase for a foreign coach, football administrators in our land are not better than our political leaders. “When destiny played out, there’s nothing we can do about it,” Amaju Pinnick the NFF president, told journalists last week in Abuja. Destiny? How unserious can a leader be? Destiny when the body spent more time dueling with the former coach, the one whom Pinnick dubbed “African Guardiola”. More and more, folks running our football have shown that they are bereft of ideas that can move us forward. Added to this is the reality that we are not producing quality footballers like before and more attention ought to be paid on our local professional league. The ray of hope coming out of the Nigeria Professional League shows that we can do things right if we are determined in this country. Gradually, fans are trooping to stadiums across the country to watch matches. Seeing pictures of fans at the Agege Stadium in Lagos watching an NPL game under floodlight gladdened one’s heart. In these days that we have been talking of diversifying our economy, it should interest our government that while the English Premier League has a brand value in excess of $4 billion since 2013; it generates £2.2 billion per year in domestic and international television rights. We can get there too if our heads are in the right places. Apparently it will be too much expecting Pinnick and his gang of clowns to resign but they should do the right things. Even though the sports minister has been saying the correct things on Super Eagles, it is unsure if he will do the right things. In a country seemingly on life support, football is an essential medicine that must be administered regularly. https://www.thecable.ng/go-wrong

According To Hope for Nigeria, Former Rivers state Governor, Rotimi Amaechi has written to Bancorp Bank in Minnesota in the United States that the alleged $757 million Dollars domiciled in an account in his name; was authorized by him in error; from a Rivers State Government Account with Access Bank Plc. The Nigerian most corrupt governor according to CNN letter reveals that a similar letter was also written to a bank in Switzerland; stating that a similar authorization was made in error. The letter stated that the said transfers to both banks were for the purchase of security Helicopters, payments to a foreign company to combat malaria in Rivers state by using helicopters to spray mosquito insecticides, and for the purchase of an official residence for Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, in America. The letter further explains that, the payments for the security helicopters, and mosquito insecticides to fight malaria were made through other sources, after the funds had already been transferred abroad. He reminded the bank that the Rivers state law on his severance package, provides for an official residence for a former governor; of which he chose to have his residence in America. Amaechi said that, this law was later amended to have his official residence built in Nigeria, after the funds had already been transferred to Bancorp/Minnesota Account. Mr. Amaechi said these changes were the reasons he communicated the consultants for purchase of security helicopters, his official residence in the U.S and the Insecticide companies not to access the funds; since they have been paid through other sources. On receipt of the governor’s letter by the Bancorp Bank, the bank has written to the Federal Government of Nigeria to repatriate the said funds to Rivers State treasury. Investigations further revealed that President Buhari is not disposed to this request to repatriate the said funds without a trial of the former governor; to ascertain the governor’s alleged errors in these transactions. “Why would it take Christiane Amanpour of CNN, to remind Amaechi of such errors of over N80 billion Naira public funds in two different countries, and why in his name?” queried the Presidency. It could be recalled that Christiane Amanpour accused the former governor of Rivers State; Mr. Rotimi Amaechi of stacking the sum of $757 million dollars (N80 billion Naira) in Bancorp Bank in Minnesota in the United State. http://www.powersteeringnewsmagazine.com/corruption-american-bancorp-bank-writes-to-buhari-plans-to-return-amaechis-loot/1016 |
