ENUGU – Ohanaeze Ndigbo has faulted Nigeria army’s declaration of the Indegenous People of Biafra, IPoB, as a terrorist organisation. Ohanaeze said that indeed IPOB is not a terrorist organization going by extant national and international laws, especially the terrorist prevention Act 2011, as amended in 2015. It however commended the South east Governors for their role in dousing the escalated tension over army’s siege of the region. Rising from Imeobi meeting in Enugu, last night, the apex Igbo body said it stood for a united Nigeria under a restructured federal system of government that guarantees justice, equity and fairness. In a communique read by the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo, flanked by other Igbo leaders, it condemned the military operation in the zone and urged the army to terminate the exercise henceforth. The group said it will hold a special summit soonest in support of the restructuring agenda and supported all the resolutions of the southern leaders forum. It emphasized concern on the continued policy of marginalization of south east zone as the basic cause of renewed agitation by Pro-Biafra groups. Those who attended the meeting included: President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Chief Nnia Nwodo, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, Abia state Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Imo state Deputy Governor Eze Madumere and Ebonyi state deputy Governor kelechi Igwe. Others are former President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Prof Joe Irukwu, former Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Dr. Joe Nworgu, former minister for Information Walter Ofonagoro, former deputy Governor of Ebonyi state Prof Chigozie Ogbu, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Dr. Greg Ibe and former Governor of Anambra state Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/09/ipob-not-terrorist-organization-ohanaeze/

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari, “wants to wipe out the Igbo race”. In a series of tweets on Saturday night, Fani-Kayode stated that if Buhari gets away with it, “he will come after the rest of us”. He tweeted: “The attempt to break, subjugate and wipe out the Igbo race through the auspices of ethnic cleansing by @MBuhari shall fail. “This is not about IPOB but about an irrational and pathological hatred of Igbos. If he gets away with it he will come after the rest of us!” Fani-Kayode had previously condemned the labelling of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), as a terrorist group. He said: “How can anyone describe an unarmed group of people as terrorists. As far as I am aware Nnamdi Kanu and members of his IPOB have never killed anyone and neither have they been carrying arms. “Theirs is a peaceful non-violent struggle in pursuit of a legitimate aspiration and objective.” www.dailypost.ng/2017/09/16/biafra-buhari-plans-igbo-race-fani-kayode/

IGBO Activists under the auspices of “Igbo Civil Society Coalition (ICSCO) on Saturday met in Enugu and faulted the Federal Government for branding members of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as terrorists. In a communiqué signed by the National Coordinator of the coalition groups, Professor Obasi Igwe and the Convener, Mazi Ikechukwu Bismarck Oji, the human rights activists stated, “The ICSCO fully recognizes and respects everyone’s right to peaceful self-determination in line with extant international laws. According to them, “the declaration of an unarmed and nonviolent group as a terrorist organization is an afterthought whose basic intention is to shield those committing genocide and ethnic cleansing against Ndigbo from prosecution at the International Criminal Court (ICC) and divert attention from the bad governance and attempts to truncate the democratic process in Nigeria” The Communiqué further read in parts: “The ICSCO totally condemns the use of state terrorism to create a unilateral state of war in Igbo land and intimidate, gag and silence the Igbo nation from self-expression in Nigeria. ‘That the purported proscription of IPOB by South East Governors, aside being illegal, is against the fundamental human rights of the group. “Terrorism is a premeditated armed attack on non-belligerent targets and neither Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB or any other Pro- Biafran group has done this or procured arms to do so. Contrarily, it is the Fulani herdsmen, who have been a bloody war against farmers and communities that should be appropriately so labelled and tackled decisively more so since they are ranked 4th on the Global Terror Index (GTI). “We note that most of the Commanders currently executing the “Operation Python Dance”, and who have been accused of committing acts of torture, murder and genocide in Aba, Umuahia and other parts of Igboland came from a single tribal/ religious group long accused of using the “The Nigerian Army” to pursue their ethnic, religious and sectional objectives. “The case against Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is already in court and jumping the legal process to use extra judicial means to deal with any section of Nigeria while looking the other way at terrorist and ethnic cleansing programmes being committed against various Nigerians must remain condemned before the Nigerian constitution, international law and various conventions to which Nigeria is signatory. “The ICSCO formally brings to the notice of the National Assembly and the international community, the unprovoked and unwarranted genocide and ethnic cleansing being levelled against Ndigbo and urge them to compel the immediate withdrawal of the Army from Igbo land and bring to speedy justice those responsible for the murder, torture and killing of unarmed Igbo civilians. “We continue to appeal to members of IPOB to keep calm and not to take the law into their own hands. Rather, they should endeavour to record and document all acts of torture, murder and other crimes against humanity perpetrated by the military against their members for purposes of seeking legal redress. “Similarly, in the face of the current development, we call on Ndigbo to remain peaceful, vigilant, patient and go about their businesses in a lawful manner. www.tribuneonlineng.com/igbo-coalition-groups-meet-enugu-fault-fg-branding-ipob-terrorists/ |

Activities have been lined up to mark the 50th anniversary of the massacre of unarmed Asaba people during Nigeria, Biafra civil war on October 5, 1957. The victims had trooped out to welcome Nigerian soldiers that had reclaimed the vital town of Asaba in Midwestern Nigeria from Biafran troops. According to a statement by Alban Ofili-Okonkwo, chairman of the Asaba October 7 Memorial Group, the programme would span four days with the theme “Remembrance & Forgiveness.” He disclosed that all the activities designed to commemorate this year’s landmark anniversary would revolve around the theme, adding that the group will embark on sensitisation and citizen engagement programmes in order to achieve healing and closure which will “signal the collective resolve of Asaba indigenes to leave behind the memories of their tragic past and walk resolutely into a more promising future.“ He also event is aimed at galvanising Asaba people towards rebirth and healing. Ofili-Okonkwo explained that the primary objective of the Asaba October Memorial is to signal the rebirth of Asaba from the psychological and emotional devastation of the massacre. He said Asaba indigenes have lined up a series of activities to celebrate the victims of the massacre with a focus on forgiveness. According to him, the landmark memorial “is expected to symbolise remembrance and forgiveness as the ultimate healer as encapsulated in the phrase ‘Asaba, Obodo gbayaliba’ – a land without malice. He called on men and women of goodwill from across the nation to join in “erecting a befitting monument in memory of the dead where new life will be delivered, nurtured and celebrated as a symbol of our shared humanity”. Ofili-Okonkwo disclosed that the commemorative activities will commence on October 5 with a one-minute silence for the Asaba martyrs at noon, saying that it was on that day 50 years ago that federal troops stormed Asaba, ransacked homes and killed civilians, who they claimed were Biafra sympathisers. He also added two days later, Asaba people who paraded the town with “One Nigeria” banners in support of the Nigerian government were separated into men, teenage boys, women and young children, stating that the men and teenage boys were shot at an open square in Ogbeosowa by federal troops. According to him, in all, 700 men and boys were reportedly killed, some as young as 12 years old in the attack, in addition to many more killed in the preceding days. Ofili-Okonkwo said other commemorative activities include media briefing, canon shots heralding traditional burial rites for the dead (known in Asaba culture as egwu ota). Also planned, he said, are service of songs and candle light procession to Ogbeosawa grave site for tributes to the dead, interdenominational service, exhibition of artefacts, documentary and presentation of awards to honourees. A major highlight of the anniversary, he further disclosed, would be the presentation of a book on the carnage entitled “The Asaba Massacre – Trauma, Memories, and the Nigerian Civil War” written by renowned anthropologist, Prof. S. Elizabeth Bird and co-written by distinguished historian, Prof. Fraser M. Ottanelli, both of the University of South Florida. The book in its scholarly exertion is bound to unearth novel facts that will bring to fore new insights about the horrific event. He said the book presentation will be preceded by the hosting of a colloquium on the Asaba Massacre, with the theme: “In Pursuit of Rebirth”, adding that eminent scholars, statesmen, renowned industrialists and other distinguished citizens of the world are expected to attend the activities marking this year’s anniversary. He said the activities will be rounded off on Sunday, October 8 with thanksgiving service in churches all over the world. It would be recalled the incident was one of the ugliest episodes of the Nigerian civil war, which attracted international condemnation of the Nigerian authorities. www.independent.ng/group-marks-50th-anniversary-of-asaba-civil-war-massacre/ |

MediumStout:This is completely senseless. While I might not Pro-Biafran, a people reserves the right to self-determination. You can't force people to be in the same country with you or intimidate them into being patriotic. Who says the unity of Nigeria is sacrosanct? Lugard? the Nigerian Govt? You? That lots of Igbo are now supporting the Biafran Agitation is expected considering what the Igbo have gone through in this country. Not exactly sure why the issue of Biafra evokes such strong emotions from people. ![]() |

The Igbo National Council, INC, Sunday, gave the Chief of Army staff, Lieutenant General Turkur Yusufu Burutai, 21 days to withdraw his men from the Southeast region. This was stated in a release issued to Vanguard in Owerri, and signed by the National President, Comrade Chilos Godsent. The release also warned that it would sue the Nigeria Army to the International Criminal Court, ICC, for genocide against the Southeast region. As captured by the release, “In view of the above, the Igbo National Council, INC, has analysed the state of the Southeast and the Nigerian state and hereby state the following. “The Nigeria state is not at war with the people of South-East Nigeria, and therefore wish to call on the president and Commander in Chief of Armed Forces. “The leadership of the National Assembly to mandate the Minister of Defence staff, Chief of Army Staff, to immediately withdraw the military arbitrarily deployed to Southeast to murder innocent civilians. “If this is not adhered to within twenty one days (21) the Igbo National Council, INC, will petition and also sue the Nigeria Army and the Federal government, to International Criminal Court, ICC, for genocide against the armless people of the southeast Nigeria.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/09/operation-python-dance-inc-gives-army-21-days-ultimatum-leave/ |

Frontline Igbo group, Alaigbo Development Foundation (ADF), has described the Operation Python Dance II a.k.a Exercise Egwu Eke declared on Friday by the Chief of Training and Operations, Army, Major-General DD Ahmadu, as “military invasion and occupation of Alaigbo, nay, declaration of war against peaceful citizens of Alaigbo” ADF in a statement signed by its President, Prof. Uzodinma Nwala; Secretary, Prof Nath Aniekwu; and Chairman, Board of Trustees, Dr. Dozie Ikedife, said that the army declaration was another show of force and attempt to demonstrate to the world that Igbo land and the rest of the country were indeed a conquered territory. “This is indeed an invasion of Alaigbo by the Arewa-controlled and dominated Nigerian military which recently witnessed unimaginable retirement of a great number of Igbo high- ranking officers. This is a Nigeria in which the South East is completely excluded from membership of Nigeria’s highest Security Council, in clear violation of the federal character principle as enshrined in the subsisting Federal Constitution. “This occupation of a peaceful law-abiding Igbo nation is unconstitutional by the extant Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “This is another level of insurgency and terrorism to complement the insurgent Fulani herdsmen who have been terrorizing, taking over and destroying our farmlands, sacking our ancestral homes, killing our men and women, raping our women and daughters, insulting and attacking our Christian faith; all these are done with the connivance of the security authorities of Nigeria,” the group lamented. The group reminded the army that the duty of the military is to protect the country from external aggression, pointing out that the maintenance of internal security falls on the jurisdiction of the Nigerian Police and not the army. The group noted that the president’s powers to deploy officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces are provided for in Sections 217 and 218 of the Constitution. “The circumstances and conditions under which the Nigerian Armed Forces can be deployed are as follows: for the defense of Nigeria from external aggression, for the maintenance of the territorial integrity of and securing the borders of Nigeria from violation on land, sea and air, for suppressing insurrection and acting in aid of civil authorities to restore order when called upon to do so by the president, subject to such conditions as may be prescribed by an Act of the National Assembly. “It is, therefore, clear that the planned invasion and occupation of the South-East, the heartland of Alaigbo, is a flagrant breach of the Constitution,” the group insisted. ADF also said that “with the hate songs against the Igbo that have flooded the airwaves in the North and the hanging quit notice on the Igbo from the North whose dealine falls within this period of the military occupation, ADF sees this military invasion as a coordinated and deliberate action to proactively cripple any opposition and cow and emasculate the Igbo heartland as a complement to the planned annihilation of Igbo in the North by the Arewa youths during the same period.” ADf, therefore, said that the group would challenge the occupation by the army of Igbo land in court to seek a declarations by the courts that the action of Mr. President was an infringement on the Constitution as amended. “Since the planned invasion clearly infringes on the powers of the National Assembly, ADF shall call on the National Assembly to stand up and defend her constitutional authority and integrity. And if the invasion and occupation proceeds as planned, the National Assembly shall be called upon to commence impeachment proceedings against Mr. President,” the group said. The group said that the Operation Python Dance may be a subtle way President Buhari wanted to deal with all those demanding for restructuring and self- determination in Igbo land while the Arewa youths and some of their elders who issued quit notice to Ndigbo and have been “circulating hate speeches aimed at inciting their people to another orgy of pogrom against Ndigbo” are left unchecked. https://www.today.ng/news/nigeria/12496/operation-python-dance-forceful-military-occupation-igbo-land-adf |
American pastor, author and filmmaker, Bishop Thomas Dexter Jakes, has reportedly traced his roots to Nigeria, where he has discovered that he is actually Igbo. As posted on her Facebook wall on Friday, Mrs. Ifeanyi Adefarasin of the House on the Rock Church, notes that the bishop of The Potter’s House, a nondenominational American mega church, stepped on Nigerian soil for the first time this week. According to his Wikipedia biography, T.D. Jakes, as he is popularly known, was born in South Charleston, West Virginia on June 9, 1957 and grew up in Vandalia, attending local Baptist churches. Jakes spent his teenage years caring for his invalid father and working in local industries, the site says. Concerning Jake’s Igbo root, Ifeanyi Adefarasin writes, “Since tracing his roots back to the Igbo land in Nigeria, it was Bishop Thomas Dexter Jakes’ first time stepping on the Nigerian soil, with the knowledge that this is where he truly comes from. “It was a special honour for me in particular, as a native sister, to present TD Jakes with a copy of Nigeria, Our Heritage…Our Commonwealth. With the brazen politics of marginalisation of the South-east zone by the Muhammadu Buhari administration, the Igbo elite are now being drawn into the struggle for Biafra self-determination as championed by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) To this end a pan-Igbo elite group, the Alaigbo Development Foundation (ADF) which is a radical group composed of Igbo academics and professionals both home and abroad has reached out to IPOB to streamline their activities for the Biafra restoration. The IDF had already petitioned the United Nations over the genocidal quit notice by Arewa youths to Igbo living in the North as well as the Igbo hate song composed, recorded and being circulated by anti-Igbo elements in the North. The group was piqued over the “docility and criminal silence” of the federal government in bringing to book those behind the hate speeches and songs against Ndigbo. At a consultative meeting between the leader of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the leadership of Alaigbo Development Foundation held at Owerri the capital city of Imo State both groups agreed on the need to harmonise their approach in pursuit of Biafra Speaking at the end of three hours of parley Kanu said that it was a family meeting during which he promised to be keeping the IDF abreast of every development “on what we are doing”, adding that the fruitful outcome of the meting “will guide us in our efforts towards restoring Biafra.” The ADF delegation was led by its National President, Professor Uzodinma Nwala, a renowned professor of philosophy, who is committed to the pursuit of the Igbo cause along with his group of like minds. “I am glad that the elite are coming on board. We are all elite including the carpenter and the mechanic by the road side who have understanding of the times. As long as they can make sense and articulate their view points and channels it towards emancipating our people,” he said. The IPOB leader however pointed out that “elitism is not purely on academics; it has to do with being able to articulate a sense of purpose for a people and pursuing it doggedly.” The South-east Governors had also held meeting with the Biafra leader at Enugu during which Kanu said he had put his demands to the governors for onward transmission to the federal government. He vowed that he would never betray the Biafra cause as according to him, the quest for Biafra self-determination remain non-negotiable. The Biafra leader said: “I laid down before the governors what we want from the federal government, and that is the restoration of the republic of Biafra. “Nothing has changed; our position is still the same. What we want is referendum on Biafra. We have told them what we want, and we cannot compromise that position. So, let them convey same to the Federal Government. No more no less.” Kanu said that he would continue to respect elders but would not yield any to any amount of pressure that would make him drop the quest for Biafra restoration “because that is why I was born.” He encouraged Biafrans all over the world “to remain resolute, determined and focused on the struggle,” which according to him would soon be realised. On the move by the federal government to nullify his bail and re-arrest him Kanu dismissed speculations that he had disappeared from public view to evade going back to detention, saying that he was not afraid of being re-arrested. “Nigeria should be afraid of me and not me afraid of them,” he said, adding, “there is no way a person of my status and position will go under ground. It is not possible . I lead from the front.” https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2017/09/08/igbo-elite-team-up-with-ipob-for-biafra-restoration/ |

• Rejects plan to revoke Nnamdi Kanu’s bail A pro-democracy and non- governmental organisation, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has faulted the explanation offered by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, for failing to arrest the Arewa youths who served a quit notice on Igbo in northern states to leave by October 1, 2017. HURIWA has also condemned Malami for ignoring the call by the United Nations to arrest the Arewa youths and rushing back to the Federal High Court to seek the revocation of the bail granted the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IBOP), Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, who had spent two years in prison before being granted very stringent bail. “We call on all well-meaning Nigerians to reject the illegal and biased decision of the AGF to launch a manhunt against IPOB even when he completely refused to do his job in the public interest. What is the agenda of the AGF, if we may ask? As Aristotle would say, law is order, and good law is good order. The AGF in the person of Abubakar Malami must not be allowed to dance around and refuse deliberately to enforce the provisions of the constitution equitably, transparently and openly without exhibiting the mundane attitudes of a biased Northern irredentist,” the group said. The rights group said the reported excuse of security reasons offered by the chief law officer of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration for not arresting the northern youth whose illegal anti- Igbo quit notice precipitated a pro-genocidal anti-Igbo song in Hausa language, has exposed the current administration as that which is systematically executing a pro-North agenda as against the national security interest of Nigeria. HURIWA also threw its weight behind the recent criticism of Malami made by Ohanaeze Ndigbo, which rightly tasked the minister to abide by his oath of office and stop pandering to the whims and caprices of the northern regional interest as against national security interest of Nigeria. HURIWA said: “We hereby affirm our total support to the clamour around the World including the United Nations on the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to arrest and prosecute the members of the Arewa youth coalition for issuing threats against a section of Nigerians living in the 19 Northern States beore October 1, 2017”. “We are shocked and disappointed with current holder of the office of the AGF who rather than engage in meticulous introspection with a view to correcting his ethical and constitutional missteps has dug deeper and further into deliberate error and calculated attempts to undermine the sanctity of the Nigerian Constitution and has unfortunately embarked on wholly thoughtless verbal defence of the treasonable and criminal conducts of the northern youth and the serial diatribes which were spewed out by the characters that masquerade around as northern elders. We condemn these northern elders whose support overtly or covertly for the atrocious quit notice of their youth remains a potent threat to national unity and security,” HURIWA explained. The rights group also expressed consternation that President Buhari upon his return from over 100 days medical tourism in UK has decided to lunch an unnecessary manhunt and to ask the armed forces to crush the unarmed and totally peaceful campaigners of self determination of the South- east of Nigeria known as IPOB but has failed to order the arrest and prosecution of the Arewa youth coalition members who threatened national security by their widely reported anti-Igbo quit notice. “Our deepest worry and consternation at the entrenched biasness of the current holder of the high office of the AGF is hinged on the inevitable conclusion to be drawn from a rational analysis of his unconstitutional attempts to offer reasons for his failure to order the prosecution of members of Arewa youth coalition but has instead rushed back to the Federal High Court to seek the revocation of the bail granted Kanu who had spent two years in prison before being granted very stringent bail,” the group said. “The logical interpretation to be drawn from the ill-intentioned and illegal defence of the atrocious actions of Arewa youth as disclosed in a recent media conference launched by Malami is that he has reduced the larger office of the president of Nigeria to that of a regional warlord of Hausa/Fulani Muslim north,” https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2017/09/05/huriwa-accuses-malami-of-double-standard-on-quit-notice-to-igbo/ |

Ibe said that Ohanaeze annually organizes the Igbo Day Celebration as a way of commemorating the unique Igbo traditional heritage. “Against the backdrop of the current challenges of Ndigbo and as a way of seeking divine solutions to these problems, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has decided to use the annual Igbo Day Celebration for 2017 to mobilize Igbos across the globe to pray and seek the face of God for Nigeria and Ndigbo in particular. “All Igbos in Nigeria and in the diaspora are enjoined to be actively involved in the programme,” Ibe said. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/09/2017-igbo-day-ohanaeze-submits-worries-god/

These biafrans are indeed senseless. Operation python dance has come to stay courtesy of DJ buratai. You will all be forced to dance to the tune of the military since you people chose the path of rebellion. You will all die for nothing if you think confronting the military will get you biafra. No one or group is stronger than the federal government, you can only try but will be defeated. For those of you waiting on the UN or amnesty international to arrest Buhari, let me remind you that obasanjo wiped out a community in Odi and till now he's still a free man. If you think the white man gives a fvck about your black IPOB asses continue to sacrifice yourselves in vain. Biafra will never come. The unity of Nigeria is not negotiable. We will resist all divisive tendencies and ensure you embrace patriotism by force. Even ojukwu the masterminder of Biafra died a patriotic nigerian with the Nigerian flag wrapped around his coffin. No idiot from the east can blackmail the federal government into submission. Nnamdi Kanu will die a nigerian. Useless people
