Referring to the statement in bold please.

Once a permanent resident has state health insurance, do they still need to "register" with the different clinics within one's vicinity or is each resident's information already shared centrally with all the clinics in the province where one lives, such that one only needs to present their health insurance card?

Show your health card and go. Even out of province.

What city is this please? and how possible is that? Even if they were to do 70hours/week which is impossible, and lets say they make $40/hour, how would they gross $14k a month? Sorry but I very much doubt this.

Someone has already posted the article. Ottawa to be exact. But any major Canadian city really. Transit operators have a strong union, and a good CBA. So unless you know what's in the CBA, you're just speculating. Your head is scattered because your parents lied to you. You can't comprehend how a bus driver with only a secondary school education, and a drivers license can make over 179k per year. According to your father that's not possible. They also receive amazing benefits and a nice pension plan when they retire since they are government employees. Hence why I was laughing at that lawyer that doesn't want to do "dirty jobs". You think he ever sniffed 170k=over 52 million naira in one year as a rubbish lawyer in naija ?

If you can be strategic, the US is the cheapest route. Write the GRE and get a fantastic score, it will open you up to full funding opportunities, especially at the PhD level.

Then what happens after school ? People are trying to get citizenship not a PHD.

The luxurious condos that some Bus drivers live in Toronto is simply unaffordable to most people. A bus driver with a city transit is likely to gross more than many professionals can dream of. Moreso, I dare say they even get more respect than most. Aside Doctors and Nurses, I don't know of other professional that gets a warm "thank you" as often as Bus drivers. I think the problem is that people in Nigeria make the mistake of conceptualizing life in Canada with their Nigerian experience. They will be very surprised how different the value system and life here is.

I just thought of it, I actually do not know what the neigbours in the house next to mine look like lol. Sure I have seen them a couple times and know their race but their face did not stick, let alone did I care to say hi or notice what they do for a living or drive.

They usually Marry themselves. So they'll have a household income of like 200k dollars per year. When I meet an older Nigerian, I usually direct them to jobs like this.

Haba na, you can do better than this na. Honestly, there's nothing bad in asking what you don't know.

Small, genuine question, you don turn immigration officer. cheesy Na wa o. No one is feeling they are above anyone, that's not who I am. I am just trying to seek info from folks who got here before me.

You can answer people's question without being unnecessarily rude. I know you are nicer than this. smiley

I apologize. That wasn't my intention. I'm trying to let everyone know, if you have an capitalist/elite attitude, throw that out the door once you get to Canada. It doesn't work here. You know you have to book through your doctor or go to a walk in. If that's not possible, then go straight to a hospital which is open 24/7 with 1st world medical equipment.

What do you mean "so much for free healthcare" ? Why are you talking about how you had such an amazing healthcare insurance where you had access to a doctor 24/7 ? It seems like waiting your turn, based on the seriousness of your illness was disturbing you.

Lastly, you have a lawyer in naija. His greatest concern is doing a "dirty job" in Canada. Not leaving Nigeria, a country that allows their police and military to kill its citizens. A country where 70% of its citizens live in poverty. Doing a dirty job in Canada is his major concerns. A country where nobody cares who you are or what you do for a living.

I'm just saying for everyone about to come to Canada. Leave that nasty capitalist/elite attitude behind.

Thanks for answering. Funny thing is that the infection wey wan make me go see doctor don dey go. Thinking about it now, I think I must have taken my visits to my doctor in the US for granted. This is probably my own culture shock. smiley

Np. This is Canada. Its not a perfect country but they try hard to treat everyone equally. I've been in the emergency room, waiting to get looked at, with members of parliament, at one point, and the mayor of the city. I can remember a drug addiction getting seen first because he was overdosing on drugs. So really who are you ?

The doctors mandate is to save lives according to the urgency. If you want to be a big boy and feel you should move ahead of the line because of your gold plated insurance, go back to the states. Or if you feel you're above people with less money go back to naija. That doesn't fly here.

Really? So, the federal skilled immigrant program cannot work for those who go to school there?

No. I meant going to school in the US or Europe oppose to Canada is the worse decision one can make. Canada gives you a 3 year work visa after school, and within that time frame you can apply for your PR. Plus Canadian tuition is by far cheaper than the US and UK.

lol baba ehn. This whole thing reminds me of a convo I had with someone. The dude is a truck driver, he makes about $9k to $12k per month. When he asked me how much an entry level - intermediate level Engineer can expect to make, na stammer I take reply am lol. Last last, people wey dey naija go understand and evolve when them land here. People do professional jobs here for passion or what fits their needs, not because it fetches one more money or any respect. Nobody send you and your job for Canada. Inshort your neighbour likely no go know your name after a year of you living there, let alone care about your job.

Hahaha. I knew of a city bus driver that was pulling close to 14k per month with overtime. Yes a bus driver. Everybody minds their business and nobody cares who you are or what you do. As long as it's nothing illegal and you don't disturb them. I don't even know any of my neighbors names, nor do I care too.

Good People,

Honest question, please: what do you guys think of healthcare in this our Canada o? I can't believe the only time I can see a doctor ASAP is in the case of an emergency. Or go to a walk-in clinic! So much for free health care o! Do you guys have a way around this or I just have to wait noni? Ẹ dákun.

Are there like private clinics? My health insurance in the US is very good and I don't have to wait to see a doctor. I am not feeling this gbogbogbo healthcare o.

You can't just see a doctor anytime you want in the US. What are you the president? You have to book an appointment. And if an appointment isn't booked, you have to go into the ER or walk in clinic. And you have to make sure the hospital/doctor is within your network, and your insurance will even cover the procedure, after you pay your deductible.

To answer your question, there's no nonsense private clinics here, where the rich can get care, while the poor die. Go to the hospital and they'll assess you. If its serious they'll see you asap. If its not serious (I doubt it is since you're on this message board) then you'll have to wait. The medical system will not allow someone to die, while you get care because you have money. The seriousness of your illness determines how fast you get care, not money.

yea I know him very well. He has made important points especially africans building businesses but his issue with the West is where I don't support him. He has deep grudges with white people.

He was born in France and grew up in the UK. Like most Nigerian youths born and bred abroad, they tend not to understand such opportunities they have. I suspect he wasted his opportunities, and is now in his 40's, with kids, living in council housing (housing for the poor). He has now realized his wasted opportunities, and is taking out his bitterness on others. Such as the white/western countries. His parents and family members have told him he's a F-up I'm sure. Hence his hatred for them.

His "I'm going back to naija" gist is nothing but to save face. He's been saying this for years, and will not be going anywhere. If he needs the UK government to survive, what will happen to him in naija ? He won't survive and he knows it.

I will always maintain that its always good for people to hold on to their opinions/perspectives regardless, I can never take my opinion about a matter for granted because it's a product of my thought process.

It's sad to know someone left Canada to chase an African dream that was someone else's opinion/perspective.

The issue is, he's a scam artist who plays on people's emotions to get paid. I will not put down any man's hustle, but what he's doing is dangerous and unethical in my opinion. He knows there are many losers like him who have been abroad for donkey years and haven't accomplished anything. So they blame the system and racism for their lack of success. So they come on his channel to vent. Or he knows you have many African Americans tired of racism thinking africa is better. So they come and listen to his African pipe dreams. These are his audiences.

If you dont fit into these categories, he'll block you, then shame you. With all the racism and 2nd class citizen talk, I can't remember the last time the US or UK military opened fire on innocent black protesters. As for the woman who left canada. The same tactic Phranklin uses was used on her. "You're a 2nd class citizen here". "Theres racism everywhere". Blah .. blah.... Now no job, probably doing Ashewo on the side, there protesting against SARS, etc. Now she'd take Canadian racism any day over what she's going through. And her advisor? He didn't even have the time to protest against SARS abroad. He's too busy making his dollars, living his comfortable life.

No YouTube content creator will ever satisfy all viewers, someone will always find fault, Nigerians I know here find it difficult to distinguish between constructive advice and discouragement.

As long as you are not telling them how to leave Nigeria by fire you are enemy of progress.

Start a thread now about returning to Nigeria and see the number of people who will sound alarm about your plan and the same set of people will ask..why are not coming back to Nigeria if abroad is hard.

From a different perspective. The government, from the police force to the military is killing its people without any consequences. You have killers literally walking around free. Literally. Telling people to return or remain in such an environment, when an individual is enjoying the west, is the exact definition of enemy of progress. I couldn't do that in good faith, and I understand the hypocracy. The thing with Nigerians is, they think everything can be up for debate. You can't give someone constructive advice is remain or go back to Nigeria. They'll ask you where was this advice when you migrated ? And that's a fair question.

My 2 cent.

But to be Phrank wink, he never discourages people from going abroad, rather he is of the mindset that there should be a strong and clearcut plan when Nigerians are going abroad of which I strongly advocate for. Basically if you don't have a plan then it's better you stay in Nigeria... honestly I don't see anything wrong with advising such because there is a strong point on that regard.

I just see him as a Nigerian who is proud about being African and trying to change a narrative that has been mainstream for the longest; "Life in the west is far better as an African immigrant" of course everyone is entitled to his opinion on that topic, but so far I think he is doing a great job in trying to change that Narrative. I find his show intellectually engaging.

Wode Maya is literally doing the same thing too.

As for him returning to the motherland, I thought that's his business??

Not everyone has the luxury of having a plan. Sometimes you're in a situation of just migrating then figuring it out later. Who doesn't want to migrate legally? Maya is living in Ghana and travelling the continent. He's showing you first hand. But Maya has been critical of Africa situation. He has shown vulnerability many times on his channel. Lastly, you can't ask someone to do something you wouldn't do.

He's a typical Nigerian abroad. He's an enemy of progress. He sits in the UK, with a stable government, light, running water, making pounds, etc, yet discourages people to migrate abroad. When asked why hasn't he comeback to naija (he was born in Europe actually) he'll tell you he'll be coming back that he has a plan. You know, the 40 year "I'm coming back home plan" where they never actually end up coming back home.

He loves to tell people about the unrealistic expectations of coming to the west, but never does the same about coming back to naija to his naive viewers. I'll take the negatives over the west any day than SARS and my own government killing me. Ironically wayo Phrank was able to protest in peace in the UK without being shot and killed. Funny the big bad western government treated him like a 1st class citizen in this situation.

Nobody should listen to someone who lives abroad but discourages you to come abroad, or stay abroad. I know someone who had a chance to collect her Canadian papers after university. But she listened to a Phranklin and went back to naija; as naija is the future according to him. Years later no job, she's there looking for how to return to Canada by any means. The guy who advised her is living a comfortable life, watching SARS and the military kill people from the comfort of his house in Canada. Never listen to someone who's asking you to do something they're not ready to do.

Innocent people are killed in those countries. Is it because they don't report it in the media? Go to alternative media platforms like hoodsite dot com worldstarhiphop dot com and see for yourself.
You are talking about loans, which country is not borrowing to stay afloat this moment? UK is running a furlough scheme, for unemployed people which has run the country into debt and you know who will pay it? Foreigners with huge taxes. You work like lion and eat like ant.

Hello guys. Please I need help. And I will appreciate any answers I can get.
I'm a lawyer. Certified and trained in Nigeria for over 3 years now. I'm hoping to migrate to Canada and I'm prepping up to write the IELTS exams soon. I graduated with a 2.2 here in Nigeria in 2015 so I cant go for the full fledged masters because of that so I'm aiming for a diploma in something legal related in Canada and hopefully might upgrade to a masters in the future if I see the need to. I was wondering, hows it like migrating to Canada and practicing law there. MOST people I spoke to about the whole migrating thing adviced that's it's pretty difficult to get admission in a school in Canada if you dont go for a course which you already have a background on. So my questions are.
1. Is it easy to get a law practicing job or a job relating to the legal profession in general in Canada.
2. I'm not really a do or die lawyer so I dont mind having another profession after schooling there as long as it's a clean, professional and comfortable job. Because of this, is it reasonable to just forget the law thing and start thinking of something else if possible?
3. If 2 above is reasonable, what other options should I be opened to. The major point is to get a job in Canada, what sort of profession can someone easily get a job.
Thanks for the replies

You should Google the governing body for lawyers in Canada. If you do need to go back to school in any way, call the school you're interested in and ask directly. Be careful of 2nd hand info on this board. Lastly, every job is clean, comfortable, and professional in Canada. Get rid of that nasty attitude if you want to come to Canada. I know bus drivers who touch money each year, a lawyer in naija can only dream of touching.

Travel / Canada Expands Path To Citizenship For Foreigners; Including Asylum Seekers by maternal: 3:44am On Nov 06, 2020
An interesting article for those looking to migrate. It really looks like the country is recruiting immigrants aggressively, compared to other developed nations.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government is trying a new tactic to mitigate the economic damage from a dramatic drop in immigration: persuade foreigners already in the country to stay.

Canada announced plans last week to make it easier for the more than 1 million temporary students, workers and asylum seekers now living in the country to become permanent residents, giving them a path to citizenship. In an interview Monday, Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino said it’s the logical way forward to make up for a decline in foreigners moving to Canada during the pandemic.

“For those who are already in Canada and here on a temporary basis, it behooves us to see whether or not there’s a way to accelerate their pathway to becoming Canadian,” Mendicino told Bloomberg.

You can apply for skilled worker if you qualify in Canada. Then be a citizen in 3 to 4 years. You can come to Canada as a student, get a 3 year work visa after school, then eventually apply for PR once you meet the requirements. School is also cheaper, and is in Canadian dollars. If you're looking to leave naija for good, going to the UK doesn't make sense really. Unless you're going to marry a UK citizen.

Billionaires take loans, but not at the level of cars and houses wink
They take loans to do business and expand their empire.
Only poor people buy houses and cars on credit,so they can use their little change for something else.
It seems you are very dull, how does an immigrant prove to a bank that he is worthy of credit worth a million dollars, not mortgage, but outright cash credit?
You talk about business plan?who gives a shit about your business plan?the ban wants something it can hold unto should you default you dey talk business plan?
Ngwa go and collect the loan na,mugu cheesy
It is not a must that your house will appreciate in the west, that depends on an whole lot of factors you might be too daft to understand, this one weh to understand common credit dey hard you.
You give example of someone who has paid a mortgage for 10 years and owned the property and you describe it as easy access to credit?
Wouldn't the bank own his property should he default?how is this easy access to credit?
Where will a fresh migrant get the collateral to give in the first place?
Also for African restaurant business, its a limited market for Africans only.
What happens when this tiny market isn't buying as much for factors such a no time to cook, temperature, cost, competition, etc?
That a few people have made money from it don't make it a good business because its customer base is restricted to Africans only.
Whites,Latinos no get time to dey buy your garri na cheesy
And you don't need much money to start up an africa food trading business. So why bring that up? undecided
