Focusmind: You will be shocked that some didn't even know the school their parents attended or the course they studied. This has to do with communication. When parents don't communicate or discuss life matters with their kids, such knowledge gap is bound to occur.
For those blaming the Dad for coming back after studies abroad, it is not a crime to return home after your studies if you are sure of being gainfully employed. I did same in 2010 after my masters in UK that was sponsored by PTDF and I don't have any regret returning back.
Though I am not where I want to be yet but when I looked back, I felt some sense of achievement and success in Nigeria and I also believe that my kids will find their own success as long as I lay solid foundation for them. You're naive if you think your kids will find success in Nigeria. This isn't about money or a job. This is about SARS, a lawless country, a functional society, access to the world Visa free, etc. But because you were success and was offered a job, you were too selfish to think about your children or future children's success at the time ? Such as what if they won't be as fortunate as myself ? 20 years from now your children will be making a thread like this. Its not too late. Try to get out. |

This was pre 9/11 and pre Trump. People found ways. Your father has failed you, and especially himself. His mates children are enjoying and striving in America while your protesting against SARS with no job. Because of your fathers selfishness and stupidity. |

Like almost every Nigerian, they are selfish and are now paying the price. Unfortunately their children are not learning from their stupidity and selfishness. Everytime i see a "should I migrate to Canada or stay and build on (insert some nonsense business or laughable salary) I shake my head. The typical Nigerian is too dumb when considering planning for tomorrow. |

He's an enemy of progress. Even if this tech gig doesn't work out, the opportunities in Canada is endless, especially as a legal resident. He doesn't tell the man how to legally migrate to America, and the insane amount of tuition he'd have to pay as a non citizen or green card holder. Aconomist: Moving to Canada would be a terrible mistake my friend, especially toronto. In Canada, your Nigerian degree is worthless. There are many PHDs from countries like India that are homeless in Toronto, what makes you think they will hire a Nigerian? The cost of living in Canada is also astronomical.
The U.S. would be a better option. Try to get a degree at an american school if you want a job. They are always hiring tech guys. Canada doesn't allow poor people to migrate to their country, only to live on the streets. Stop lying. Toronto is the fastest growing tech hub city in North America. And once he lands as a PR, he can get government loans/bursaries if he can't afford to go to school. Your ignorant about this topic, stop giving advice. Even if you're right. I'd rather live on the streets in Canada than S-hole naija. Nicoswit: He can get the canadian passport later...it will even be more easier when he becomes successful in his tech company...he shouldn't trade his comfortable life for an anticipated life in canada You didn't answer my questions. Nothing is guaranteed. A change in administration, immigration laws, etc, can make it harder or impossible to get the passport in the future. He lives in a country where the military was ordered to kill its own citizens. No light, running water, local police force and politicians ranked worst in the world, low life expectancy, etc. This is far from a comfortable life. Someone who's comfortable wouldn't be on nairaland debating if he should migrate. Nobody who lives in Canada, creates a thread asking if they should migrate to Nigeria. You know why ? Because they're truly comfortable. Its foolish to stay in a 3rd world country because of a tech business. Not everything is about money. Naija guys claims they're the biggest hustlers, yet they get cold feet about migrating to Canada. Too afraid to hustle here ? |

truthsayer009: When you created this thread, your mind was in a different frame, now things are different & any sensible person would understand. In early 2014 when I returned back to Nigeria from school, I had opportunity to travel back or move to another country for work or internship. I neglected it simply because I didn't see the real difference. Things are different now, dollar was 160 - 170 back in 2014 as far as I remember, luckily got a 200k paying job which was more than $1000 dollars at that time. Big Money, Baby boy life. Spent 80k in the club one time, my babe at back then advised I get a Car & cruise around Lagos knowing Toyota Corolla was 900k then ($4000), thank God I followed my Sister's advice & bought a piece of land instead. Phew!
After a short while every thing went downhill, dollar crashed in mid 2016, Recession hit companies & had to move to a lower paying job, every thing scattered. My new salary was barely $300 because dollar became 500 Naira in 2016 when there was a spike If I remember clearly before later going back to 360, I couldn't save after so much expenses deducted. The government has tried severally to inject money into the Economy, but keeps failing. Speaking of Dollars, as at yesterday GTBank told me that each person could only withdraw $20,000 daily now because of the Injection of dollars into the economy & it's still not helping issues. Before now, GTB completely prevented every Dorm account owner from withdrawing or transferring their own inflow funds.
This is 2020, Foreign reserves is now empty, Now I see every reason I should have left in 2014. LMAO. Two people who F'd up trying to console each other. You sound like a small pikin sef. Any sensible person would have got the hell out when they had the means and opportunity. But you were popping bottles, nacking babes, forming big boy for club, instead of thinking of your future. Now poverty don catch you, now you see every reason you should have left ? Toto was blinding you during that time abi ? Other than toto, what did you use to forecast naija would be good in the future ? Again, those looking to migrate, learn these two guys F-ups. Don't stay because you're currently making decent money. |

Sanchez01: I could ignore and look on while you have a field day with the tomfoolery as usual but feel I should clear the air on this. I AM DIRECTLY NOT AFFECTED BY ANYTHING RIGHT NOW. My angst here is the fact that the rule of engagements and human rights abuse is almost at the level of pure Islamic states across the world.
I have never been affected by the harsh economic policies of this government save I spend more on commodities now. The more the dollar goes up, the higher my earnings when converted to out free falling Naira. Not saying I am there yet. At best, I spend more on certain things than I used to. Not like I owe you this but the fact that you have been hyperventilating and throwing shades at me and about how I am affected is amusing.
Did I join in the protest, yes. Have I been harassed by SARS officials before? Yes. Severally, in fact. Was that why I joined the protest? Definitely not. Would I join another protest should a second wave happen? Hell yes.
Given the power today, I will undo the harsh economic policies that led us all here. It isn't because of me. Even the richest Nigerians of this world are impacted by the misrule of the present administration. I could choose to sleep all day and go out in the evening, it doesn't impact my earnings in the least of ways as it is not tied to a physical office.
What I find disgusting is how you and some persons have been latching on to a post of over 5 years ago which does not in any way reflect the craze of today's Nigeria to label me selfish and self-serving because I suddenly embraced the idea of emigrating. And worse, that you have been embittered by it. Your ignorance and arrogance on this issue is appalling. You don't even know you're being laughed at. You claim nothing is affecting you, yet you claim the human rights abuse is on the level of an Islamic state. Furthermore, you claim you're worried about your children's future. Baba, YOU ARE BEING AFFECTED, especially mentally. People like you are the enemy of progress. You have never lived in both societies (Naija and the West), yet over 5 years ago you were debating which one is better, discouraging people from going. This is like a virgin telling me how to have sex. People who haven't lived in both societies should keep quiet. What if someone took your nonsense advice and now can't leave naija ? Instead of living a peaceful life in Canada, US, UK, or Australia, they'll be now dealing with SARS, Buhari, a worthless naira, etc because of you. What methods did you even use to forecast that naija will be better in the future ?Baba, nobody cares about your money. Because when that bullet penetrates you or you pikin, or when you need that emergency treatment, which the hospitals are not able to handle, due to corruption, my brotha, you'll be 6 feet under like every person, rich or poor. You think its poor people leaving naija through the EE ? So you joined the protest and have been harassed by SARS. Yet nothing in this country is directly affecting you ? The richest Nigerians were smart enough to get residency or a passport to a second country just in case. You think Dangote, Adeleke, Femi etc are stuck in naija ? That's the difference between them, and a naïve individual like yourself. Lastly, this your quote is important and I want anyone who's on the fence about migrating to read and internalize this: "What I find disgusting is how you and some persons have been latching on to a post of over 5 years ago which does not in any way reflect the craze of today's Nigeria to label me selfish and self-serving because I suddenly embraced the idea of emigrating. And worse, that you have been embittered by it" 1. Never take advice from someone who has never lived in both societies. That's naija and the west. 2. NO CONDITION IS PERMANENT. Because you're doing good today, doesn't mean you'll be doing good tomorrow especially if you have children. Money in naija comes and goes. The stability you'll have in the west will last, mixed with a functional society is priceless. This man has money, let he's looking to leave. Let that sink in. Leave if you get a chance. Don't think twice. |

Una go.get sense by force. You're comparing making laws to reduce the spread of covid to making laws to oppress protestors, demanding not to be killed or exploited by their police force ? Those people were still on the streets because they were sick of being killed/disrespected by their government/ police force. Even so, they deserve to get killed ? You love to blame the protestors, but don't have the same energy for the criminal politicians stealing the country's money everyday. Or the law enforcement agencies killing and exploiting the people they're suppose to protect. The citizens are lawless and worse than the government? This is the issue with Nigerians. I actually felt more fulfilled in non-western countries and I live in the west. The west is just for materialistic people. If you want money, career, and a sense of security, then yes, the west is for you. But if you want more to life, a crazy entrepreneur that values human relationship in addition to the money making, good weather devoid of winter darkness and cold folks, want to walk down the streets and see people filled with approachable demeanor and just having fun, then the west will hardly be that place.
Personally, my strategy was to build a business that will fund my lifestyle as an upper class anywhere I am on earth, and leave to explore new fertile ground where I'll have a feeling of contentment towards life, and not just a cash making machine, and I achieved that. South America is really nice, especially colombia, Panama and Brazil. If one have money, those places are heaven on earth.
Many of my friends moved there after college, and they wished they did they did that earlier. It is after when one has reached the pinnacle of their financial freedom, then they would want more to life, not just stability. Thats boring. Oh just Money, career and sense of security. Boring. There's more to life than that. I want a vibrant environment while walking around on an empty stomach. Until your friends give up their American citizenship and pick up only the citizenship of the country they're in (insert S-hole country) na just talk. They come with money, exploiting the locals. Any other countries such as Brazil, Caribbean Islands are nothing more than 2nd options. They're better than naija, but stop comparing them to legitimate G7 nations like Canada or USA. As at ending of last months i read a thread here whereby a man living in Canada with his family shared his monthly savings with us. To me the figures I saw was pretty good and ok if one is not greedy . And he said something strange again about his savings he said he saved 15000 CAD in 3/4 months I think, I was amazed like is Canada the new blood money country. So In my mind I was like we die here. So leaving the thread my mind was telling me that this man might be giving us lamba cause that money he said he saved is over 4 million naira our currency here in just 4 months and he told us that he is a Jewish security . So my question is ,is this true ? If yes how possible is this? There are heavy bills there to pay how come you save up that much and you're not even doing a professional work. Just curious, do people pay bills in naija as well ? |
