I will speak about myself only,I don't need a loan to buy a car in the first place and I drive pretty new cars.
Also, you were the one that said nothing is stopping any immigrant from opening a business abroad na lol. cheesy
Why you dey change mouth again.
You can take a loan of $1m?
Do you know what a loan is this woman?
You think its mortgage or car loan abi lol?
Let me tell you the difference since you don't seem to know.
With mortgage, the bank don't give you money. They simply pay the developer for you and collect their money in bits,so that if you default, they collect their house back and throw your ass in the streets.
Same for cars. You all don't own this things while the loan lasts, because a single default can have them repossessed.Just a paycheck away from being homeless kind of situation.
But for loan, the bank has to actually credit your account with funds they will have no control over with no collateral to hold on to for an immigrants case,so if you fail or chose to take their money, how fo they recover it? undecided
So my friend, nobody will give you $1m cheesy
You can tell that to these unexploded, desperate kids, not me.
wink
Logic over emotions please.

Using cash for everything is a 3rd world mentality. Even billionaire take loans. Nothing is stopping an immigrant from opening a business. A bank has to assess your liability. This isn't your fathers bank. Prove your responsible and there's a realistic way you can pay the money back on time, why won't you get it ? Or you think you'll land today, then get a 1 million dollar loan tomorrow? So they do that for naija as well ?

People who live in the west are laughing at you. I let you go when you mocked the restaurant business, one of the most profitable industry in the west. But your ignorance is comical. The unsecured loan you're talking about is called a line of credit which most have. Its in your account. But if you want a business line of credit, even in the millions, you have to show your business plan to the bank. This is not the bank of jagga jagga, or first uncle bank. Prove you can pay them back with interest and the money is yours. Which bank doesn't assess their risks ?

As for real estate/home ownership in the west. When you get the mortgage and start paying it down, your house also appreciates. The bank will take what you owe on your mortgage, along with the new appreciated value, come up with a number, and allow you to take a loan for that against your property, the new appreciated value, based on your mortgage interest rate. Are you following? So I know someone who bought property in an expensive area in Toronto called lakeshore 10 years ago. With the appreciated value, and with him paying the mortgage down for 10 years (he has renters there) the bank said he could collect 900k dollars loan against his property. He's only 38 years old. Again what are you talking about?

Go and collect one million dollars from the easy credit na.
If you succeed, come back and tell us cheesy
Or you think it's by getting peasant car loan for 8% interest or CC that you'd use to start and run a business?
Easy credit my ass.
And suddenly they'd give that kind of capital to a person with no credit history,an African nigga for that matter because money grow on trees in America abi? cheesy

Why do Nigerians coming abroad expect everything to be easy. I can. But I don't do business. Whats wrong with building your credit history, then accumulating assets, to take a loan against that ? Must everything happen overnight? Better yet why haven't these young business minded men in Nigeria, gone and collected loans from a naija bank ? They must have created credit history by now lol. They same car bank loan you mock, 95% of the people there wouldn't even qualify for it here with their 2 USD per day salary.

Can you have what it takes to start a business in Canada? undecided

Register your business, get liability insurance (depending on your business), copy right/patten if you need one. Pretty simple and straightforward.

Money that a lot of them don't have, and I mean really good money.
Unless for those targeting limited market businesses like selling african food and so on...

The west has a good and easy credit system where one can easily raise the capital they need to start a business. What are you talking about?

And Indians are not humans,or they are not smart? What's your point? This attitude is why many keep shut and allow people to go there and see for themselves.

My husband is a sailor who travels round the world due to his job.He tells me about Nigerians he meets while on shore leave in different countries. Many are well educated but had to resort to working at coffee shops , cleaning, driving taxis etc. A lot of them regret moving abroad because all the money you make, you spend on rent, bills and tax, with little room to save. The sad thing is that so many are ashamed of coming back home.

Last year my husband had to give a guy he met in Portugal some money to buy himself food. They got talking and he told my husband that he is saving up money to go elsewhere and see if luck will smile on him.He had to cut down on food.Even when he is hungry,he endures it.

A lot of persons make it abroad, while some don't.What works for A may not work for B.
All i am saying,do proper research about where you are going to.Imagine the worst possible scenarios and prepare for it (especially financially).Plan well, have enough backup funds and be ready to rough it out being that it's a new Country you just moved to.

Canada is like every other country on earth. So many of you paint it to look like heaven, luring gullible people to risk it all and move there only to end up disappointed. This is my last post here, good luck to us all.May our hustles pay!

I agree. Because in naija every kobo you make you keep. You don't have to spend money on taxes, school fees, generator, fuel for generator, police bribe, transportation, phone credit, water, food, clothes, etc. Only in Canada does your money go to bills and daily expenses.

This is exactly what i was discussing with my husband. My point is that people should do proper research before jumping on a plane to Canada. It's not the paradise that it's painted to be.The average Nigerian gets carried away easily, only few of us actually think these decisions through and do thorough research before moving.

Quora is your "research" ?

This thread prompted me to do research about life for immigrants in Canada.

The Canadian dream we have been sold is just good PR by their government,in addition to some sweets thrown in (Free health care, free education, child support). All this is indirectly paid for by way of taxes. The unemployment rate is high, high cost of living and rent.

Now,on the relaxed immigration policies to Canada. The Canadian government isn't doing anyone a favour.Rather they are luring you in to build their workforce, increase their population and also generate a lot of revenue off the visa fees immigrants pay.
The fact is this, the more persons that immigrate there, the more tax revenue the govt makes!

So many Nigerians don't do any research before moving there, they just want to escape from Nigeria.I will attach screenshots of persons living in canada as found on quora so everyone can know what to expect before moving there.

If you want to get a true picture of what life can be in canada,go on quora. Many are not saying the truth here on nairaland. It's not so rosy.

Imagine a Nigerian who left here, was living in a one bedroom basement apartment with his wife and 3 kids. Both of them work but can't make enough to get a bigger apartment. So they basically live from hand to mouth!

My thoughts are this: Canada is for persons who don't really have much going on for them here or persons who have made so much money, that even if they aren't making enough money there, they have savings to live off on.

This is bad belle on many levels.

I am convinced he isn't thinking Nigeria will change for the better, he is only pained he doesn't have the capacity to emigrate. He is an hypocrite like Desmond Elliot who wrote IELTS in 2018 in an attempt to relocate at least his family to Canada and is bashing his fellow celebrities today for supporting end sars.

Its the naija way. Try to leave. If you can't get into politics to steal. Meanwhile claim how good naija is, and how the grass is not greener on the other side. This guy bashed the hungary citizens for taking the food that is theirs. He bashed the youths for protesting, so police can stop killing/harassing them. In 2020 and we're begging our police force to please stop killing us. Then he claimed how the youths are uncivilized, and looting.

He didnt bash the politicians stealing millions of naira yearly. No mention of the military killing its own citizens, or the oga on top who ordered it. No mention of the politicians who stored the food meant for the people, only to most likely re-sell. No mention of the officers who have committed murder in cold blood, and are still walking the streets freely, while you can get arrested here for even uttering a threat. This is the zoo people elect to live in because of 200-800k naira per month or whatever ? Have mercy.

How can someone say it's easier to do business in Canada than in Nigeria. Which kind of business are you all doing. You have access to Canada a very rich nation, you have access to the USA, the richest consumer nation on earth. You have access to Mexico and south America. That whole region between north to south America is filled with wealth. You have educated people who are very conversant with technology and most of all have the money to spend. Doing business in Nigeria isn't easy. Many Nigerians don't have money and can only afford the basic essentials of life.

You mean easier in Nigeria than in Canada. I agree. I'm still trying to understand the logic. A lot of people here are comedians to be honest.

If you leave nija, that will be the best thing you have done for your kids. Everything is not about money, but sanity is priceless.

You can plan who you want to be in 1year, 5years, 10years and yes you can achieve it.

There is dignity in labour abroad, having a car is not luxury unlike in nija that if you have anything on 4 legs, you are king in your mind and suddenly begin to have superior power.

You asked about Canada, so i can confidently tell you, if you are not lazy you can buy your home on mortgage within 3years. UK, there is no guarantee except you get a professional job.

The benefits being abroad far outweighs the negatives, as stated earlier, you will pay monthly rent which is the major salary burner, followed by insurance then food and bills. As long as you are not living beyond your means and working hard, after paying all those things i listed, you should still have almost 500CA$ left, approximately 150k monthly. You really need to be prudent if u earn minimum wage and work 8hrs/day.

The support system here is fantastic, and that is why you need to be happy paying your taxes. For me about 40% of my income goes into tax, but guess what you still get tax returns, govt will pay you back some of the money.

Don't let anybody encourage you to stay in that country where nothing is guaranteed, all you see is a smoke screen in 5years. One policy can easily render you jobless without nobody caring. Here they monitor the figures closely, and try to close the gap.

This place is not heaven o, unemployment is here too, applying for job is a skill, but all the people i know who borrowed money to process their application have paid back and settled down.

Wish you all the best!

A good amount of the unemployment is by choice. But I understand your point.

lol!...You really can't blame him/her for making such a statement.

When a person is raised all his life in an Animal Barbaric Kingdom such as Nigeria they too grow up and have the same Animal and barbaric brains and live life that way.

They don't know anything or any way different and they believe that how they were raised is all that life has to offer.

I really don't blame the Whites(and it's not that I am excusing them for such thinking) when they assume that most Africans have Animal or gorilla brains.

How can any Sane and real human being be saying that people living in Nigeria are better off than people living in Sane Advanced Countries.

These morons don't even realize the children of all those government officials are abroad. The people governering you don't even believe in the country they are governing. Analyze that for a second.

Of course you do. Only people with money should enjoy a good life. The rest should die from poverty. Thats the naija way of thinking. Then we'll blame our government for thinking the same way.

I have been everywhere in Canada, USA, France, UK, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Portugal, Spain. Lived in LA Cali, New York. If you invite me to Canada I will spend no more than 2 weeks there and gladly return to our mighty Lagos city.
It is understandable, the hunger (caused by our lack of farming and producing food for ourselves), the poverty and chaos are much! As for me, we die here. I love it here, you will never understand until you get stuck in the countries mentioned.

you were able to see opportunities because you have money from earning the foreign currency. When people are based here, capital becomes a problem, they have not even fed well or handled their basics talkless of having spare cash to see opportunities. So staying abroad for long made you have the wherewithal to see opportunities and invest in them.

You notice they only see these opportunities when they're abroad? Who was stopping him from coming back to naija ? People like this don't pay no mind.

The people doing legal stuff are just managing to get by with bills, tax both home and abroad?

Canada
United States
Uk
Or other 1st world countries are wonderful for relocation

If you fall into this categories Don't abandon your career to move
- Your earn 200k upward
- you have finacial backup
-you hav running buisness
-you are doing well

If you fall into this categories you can consider migrating

-you jobless
- you earn 150k below
-you fall below average standard
-you don't have any running buisness
-you are managing

Canada is a wonderful country but its not as easy as you think... You make cool income but gov is waiting for your tax... Things are pretty expensive unlike the states...

If you doing well just go for a visit and meet with nigerians over there to give you more life stories
Dont quite yet...

Goodluck

Hes not doing well. Because if he was, he wouldn't be thinking of migrating. Lastly what is wrong with paying taxes? Why are Nigerians so uncivilized. You complain government doesn't do anything. Then when you live in a country where the government does something, you complain about taxes.
