Very well then.
But sir, Is chemistry not part of statistics/mathematics departments' courses in 100 level?
It's an elective. You can do the chemistry courses which I'll actually advice against...

True, I have been able to download three out of those textbooks for free online.

*Pure maths for A-Level by Bunday
*University Physics by young and Freeman
*Computer science Illuminated
Nice one. In fact, if not for the fact that you need to have a head start, all of them are readily available on campus. You can easily get then from people's phones/laptops. Only a few students carry hard copies around on campus.

Sir, I'm a statistics aspirant. Is there anything you can drop for me sir? Like advice, things I can get my hands on, books I can get to read(I live close to a national library), topics I can look into for 100level, courses I could download online and look into, etc.

I had 262 in utme
O level subjects are: maths, Eng, Phy, Chem, and geography.
My total agg point using last year calculation is 62.9.

I await your reply sir!
First and foremost, with the aggregate score, there's a very big chance that you're in already ceteris paribus.
Considering the courses you'll do in your first year, it'll be nice to lay your hands on the following books:
*Engineering Maths by K.A Stroud
*Pure maths for A-Level by Bunday
*Schaum's outline of calculus
* Schaum's Outline of College Mathematics
*University Physics by young and Freeman
*Fundamentals of Physics by Halliday and Resnick
*lamlad Physics for first year university
*Computer science Illuminated.
And God statistical textbooks amongst others.
My advice is that you get a good headstart as the first year is the best opportunity to build the foundation of a good GP as it's possible to have distinction in all the courses in first year. Courses in Subsequent years may not be as friendly especially in mathematics/statistics.
And if you've got good internet source you can subscribe to the following YouTube channels:
Eddie Woo
PatrickJM
Michael Van Biezen
Krista King
Walter Lewin amongst others.

that's not possible!
if u divide that number of course into 2, it gonna be 6 or 7 per semester!
Don't dare think about doing less than 10 course self......unless u r at final year semesters!
smiley I pardon your ignorance (no harm intended), some departments even do just 4 courses in second semester. However, that doesn't make it any less challenging.
EngrBello:
if this is just for a year¿ it simply means that, studying at university is very very easy, when compared to polytechnic and colleges.....
If you're an aspirant, I wish you best of luck and pray that you gain admission into UI only then will you realize how wrong you are with this bolded statement you made.

Good morning guys, please do I have a shot at admission with jamb point =247 and olevel=2B3 and 3C5?

I intend to apply for mathematics, tho am yet to change institution from unilag to UI.

Why do I wantu change to UI? Well unilag requires further maths as part of the 5 olevel core subject which I do not have hence my reason for changing. I hope UI won't require same?

Thanks and have a wonderful day

Cc thankyouJesus
just as some people have rightly said, considering your scores and the cut off mark for mathematics in recent years, you're good to go. Wish you all the best.

Sorry for the curiousity tho, but what are the slim odds to gaining admitted even after beating d cut-off, since you said admission would be 95% certain??
the only things that could stop an aspirant who has scaled through the cut off include things like wrong subject combo, false Waec results and forces from the village(if such things even exist). That's how transparent ui's admission process is

Sorry, buh what's d main difference between the merit and the supplementary list.., and if yu beat the cut-off, yur name doesn't show in the merit list, what is d assurance it will appear in the supplementary list..?
Basically, the merit list contains the names of applicants who beat the cut off marks while the supplementary list is meant for either those that are meant to be on the merit list but for one reason or the other were not cleared in time, those who applied for COC or thOse who missed out on the merit list by 1-3 points especially relatives of staffs.
And mind you, once a candidate beats the cut-off, admission is 95% certain save for very few complicated cases.

Good morning friend,
I would like to advise everyone coming into college of medicine, U.I ,with the aim of crossing to to the professional courses that you should have a plan B &C .I said that because this year out of the 55+ people that applied to cross to MBBD/BDS , only 5 eventually crossed (3 MBBS & 2BDS) . I think this must have been as a result of the large number of the class before.......The cutoff for MBBS crossing was 6.2 and around 5.5 for BDS , much higher that what it was the previous year....
Note that all those 50+ people joined our classes from the beginning of this session and they had all it took to cross( 4.5 and above + they were great colleagues).........They neglected their own department work because of the assurance they had in their CGPA. The list for crossing came out about 9weeks into the semester , when they had missed lot of tests, classes, practicals etc. The psychological trauma is even on another level.............

So if you are coming into UI COM with the aim of crossing, know that you have to really really work to earn that slot, the probability of crossing before you cross is less than 10%.................. Love the course you get into first ,the have back plans.

what do you mean by distraction, I really do love math but, it's not easy to major in math, but with computer science I can venture into programming and software stuff, i understand that I can get into that through mathematics also, but I want solid foundation in computer science. Thanks
What I meant was that some people lose focus in their first year all because they're not interested in mathematics and are thinking of crossing at the end of the session only to end up with very poor grades that can't even guarantee a stay in mathematics department let alone other departments. And that's Tsunami knocking on the door. Don't worry though cos I'm very sure you'll be fine.

Op I wanted to study Computer science at UI but my o level and Jamb scores were not enough to compete, but I had already changed to mathematics, my question is can I change to computer science after 100level in UI and, if possible what are the requirements of change course after 100level,,, please anyone

Cc Ajet001
Yes you can, provided you finish your 100l with a strong GP. But I'll implore you to get rid of the thoughts of changing if you eventually gain admission to study maths as it could end up being a distraction and the story may not have a happy ending.
However, it is worthy to note that you may also end up falling in love with Mathematics wink

Thanks so much for your contribution bro! I believe no matter how tall a mountain is, with passion and endurance, one can climb it to the top. Btw I guess there is no course in the university that is really easy(most esp in naija) and everyone needs that "never die attitude" to excel in what they have chosen to do.
With experience, I can tell you authoritatively that not all courses need the same level tenacity and dogged nature as you would need for mathematics(especially in UI), I studied computer science and more studying mathematics so I know what I mean. It's true that no course is easy but some courses are just relatively easier than the others

This is not what i mean bro. I just observed that more candidates apply to study engineering courses than mathematics, thus making engineering more competitive in terms of gaining admission into the university. This does not in any way make mathematics inferior to engineering. Even though Mathematics is more than just calculations, i guess falling in love with calculations right from secondary school is a step forward in excelling in mathematics in the university? Please educate me! I intend to study mathematics at the University Of Ibadan this year.
hmm! It's not just your love of secondary school mathematics that will ensure that you excel in the course at the tertiary level o my brother, it's your level of reasoning and endurance(never die attitude). By the way, when it comes to admission, you're right, mathematics is less competitive when compared with engineering. Nevertheless, you need to think it through very well before you settle for mathematics.

3) block-A, all rooms are equal, the occupants determine the class of the rooms, that is 'you'
4) yes, you get your own textbooks wherever u want and at whatever price, you can learn bargaining skills. just study hard and be sure u understand what you are studying, what did I say?.....study hard and smart. #dnt say I did not tell u o..
5)that is a long list I can't make now, just make sure all your documents are with you. birth cert, sec schl testimonial, waec cert, results, jamb papers etc...all documents you deem useful, u can't miss your way if they are available.
6) errrr, you said crossing?...another topic for another day, u can only beat what is in front of you, come in and settle down first, then u can talk about crossing, it's a bit premature at d moment...u need to survive first. Welcome to UI, all d best.
