11michael: Congratulations to those who met the cut off mark for their chosen courses, I can't put into words how happy yall are right now. But your journey as just begun, UI is no joke, do not develop that I have arrived mentality, devote more time to studying than you normally do. This mentality affected me as with others I'm sure. Erosion and sunami is not a myth In UI shit is real af, Failing just one major course in your first semester could be disastrous not to talk of two or three. Which could warrant to an exit from your department/college/faculty. Getting a 7.0 isn't impossible if you work smart and read smart. Congratulations once again and enjoy your free time February 6 2017 isn't too far away. Rest in Peace bro. May the Lord grant your soul eternal rest |

Hmm! Finally found where I can call a thread of solitude on Nairaland. I salute y'all teachers, "ajíméfun"(albeit marker board is now in vogue), the real nation builders!
Started the profession right out of secondary school back then in 2007, at first because of condition and circumstances but as the years rolled by, the passion for the profession grew exponentially!
I think the secret of being a good teacher is loving the profession not minding too much the meagre pay or the ungrateful parties(could be the students, parents or even the school management).
During this duration of over 8 years in the profession, there has been a quite number of times when I almost quit out of frustration, Mehn! A lot has really transpired (Oun oju ti rí, enu o le ròyìn). But I think my love for the profession outweighed the frustrations.
However, the joy of teaching lies in seeing the work of your hands bearing good fruits. Seeing your students succeed and attain great heights in life...... |

Would have loved to welcome you into the department of great thinkers. Well, just as someone earlier stated, keep praying, although sincerely, I doubt if UI can go back on her words. But then again, nothing too much for prayers! |

@zaynie, you need not bother paying attention to nonentities who will always be confused when they come across anything but mediocrity.
Keep up the good work. This is what happens when one makes one's passion his profession. I'm also proud and happy to be a teacher and although I've had experience that spans across all the classes from pre-primary through secondary classes, I presently find joy and solace in handling the more mature SS students.
If only we can have teachers who love what they do, like you obviously do, at all levels, I believe Nigeria's Education will change positively. Thumbs up! |

thecheerleader: This is what I am saying. exactly. with this system they are saying someone was has C and 200 in jamb has failed. This system is not correct oo. so if someone has 3 A1 AND 2 F9 they will give that one admission over someone with C5 parallel.
This system tells me three things which I don't know what they are actually saying. it either ui is saying
*they don't want too many competitions thereby adapting a system of scoring which is clearly inadequate there by making the school lose quality in all ramifications.. cos it's simple maths someone with C parallel should at least make it to average 25 with 200 in jamb making the person make it average
* they are saying all we need is 3A in OLEVEL and 250 in Jamb to get into school even if the remaining subjects are f9
I don't know when ui started putting candidates into consideration for cut off mark. they always compare the number of candidates applying to the average score among the candidates ooo. I don't know when their cut off was ever low o that they had to use an inadequate method to calculate. I do want to know the brains behind the calculations, big error calculations coming from ui is a shame The blame is largely on jamb and FG and not UI. Don't expect the school to against FG's orders. The order stated that no form of exam should be conducted and with that alone, one could easily guess that there was no way things would end well. In case you don't know, the school herself is not happy with the way things are. We just pray for a review in the policy by the FG before the next admission process. |

The first and most important thing you guys need to learn as regards to UI is how to be patient. I'll advise that you take your mind totally off it and take a chill pill. UI will do whatever she says at her own convenient time without rush. |

Powers and roots are not part of the primary school curriculum, so you don't expect primary school teachers to incorporate this into their teaching. However for the secondary school, I prefer to use PEMDAS / BEMDAS for them since they're old enough to assimilate it at that level |

thankyouJesus: Good evening all, I love preparing ahead of time to achieve my dream, this always works for me. Education › Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by mathefaro(m): 11:53am On Sep 15, 2016 |
happyday: Waaaooooh! I like this! Your aims are high, and I think asking before it's time is a pointer that you're closer to your dreams than you realize. Yeah, sit tight and finish Maths UI with a first class. This is THE MOST IMPORTANT, for now. Maths PhD is not as structured as BS Maths, in that math research is so broad, and you'll be starting out with a blank plate, for you to go figure it out. Whereas in your undergraduate days, you generally have an idea of the proofs, methods and solutions. The best way is to finish among the top 1% of your graduating class, preferably the best graduating.
How?
Treat each class, each test, each assignment, each quiz, each exam, each term paper with all seriousness. With time, that lofty dream of an 8.0 (am I right) will materialize.
And as for preparation for a PhD at top US schools, don't fret about taking tests for now. When it's time, you'll need to take the GRE general test, GRE Math Subject test and TOEFL/IELTS. But, my brother, for now, you need to be focused on that 4-year stint at UI. But to whet your appetite, check these sites for admissions requirements and FAQ for Maths Graduate Adm at MIT.
https://math.mit.edu/academics/grad/admission/index.php
And this is a short FAQ: https://math.mit.edu/academics/grad/admission/faq
In summary, they want to see that you have: 1. Consistently aced your undergraduate classes (aka 85% and above) 2. Demonstrated interest in Math Research to your lecturers, enough for them to later help you write glowing hot letters of recommendation on your behalf 3. Mastered your coursework excellently enough to score very highly on the GRE Math Subject test (MIT requires this, and yes, it's different from the GRE general test)
And that should do it. You won't have to worry about tuition, once you can get enough funds to apply and fly to the US. Plus, the choices available to you after PhD are truly limitless.
Good luck! Hmm! Really inspiring. |

With the Swype and gesture typing feature on android keyboards, trust me, you can't type faster than a person using an android. I was also one skeptical about this once. So unless there are other reasons not stated here for you to port, Android is the easiest solution to this issue |

Find below a message from the Chairman, Senate Committee on Admissions, Professor Olopade:
COPD met yesterday on 2016 Admission process and made recommendations. This will need approval of VC /Senate. Hopefully in 1-2 weeks the process will take off. ITems have uploaded the names of the candidates and test running the login process. Once we are starting, the UI website will carry the information on front page. Happy September everyone.
