Is it not double standard that you have never stood up against similar trend in Kwara State where we even have a Fulani Dynasty? How many have you stood gallantly against the massacre taking place in the northern part of the country? Charity should start from home. I don't think you are morally qualified to judge others when you are guilty of similar wrongdoings Only one party agreed to the splitting. The jews were refugees from Europe whom the Arabs/ Palestiniansinitially welcomed but the British said they must split the land so that the jews will have a place exclusively for themselves. Why do the jews want somewhere exclusive in a modern world preaching inclusivity. If you think Israel is fair then i pray what Israel did to palestinians will be done to you and your family. Mind you, what israel did does not excuse what Hamas did but the rules of morality and decency remains sacrosant. It shouldn't apply to some and not to others simply because you hate them. Kill Hamas but leave innocent children alone. |

I was actually expecting that you agree to the fact and truth that Nigerians are REALLY suffering. But you dodged the truth. What is the essence of saved money when people are suffocating, suffering and dieing on a daily basis? Is saved money an accomplishment now? What happened to the others that were saved? Stop being a sycophant. Saying the truth will not kill you, especially not on a social media platform like this. How has the "saved" money impacted the lives of the common man. Truth be said, people are REALLY suffering. Let's not deceive ourselves. Things are worse and it seems that they would get worse. Was this how it was in the inglorious years of past administrations? Next level to renewed hope looks really bad. On the link below, people wailed and mocked the government for not been able to account for the money saved from the fuel subsidy

Back to the main issue: How do you feel about 3 cups of rice as palliative? Honestly, let me tell you something. These politicians are pitching us against ourselves while they loot the treasury. Why don't they use all these billions spent on rice to fix the refineries so that we can buy the product at a lower price? What can even a whole bag of rice do for poor Nigerians? I actually don't know how much they buy loaf of "break" in other countries. But what I know is that before asking such question, as yourself: what is the general standard of living in those countries compared with yours? Sometimes, we are quick to compare cost of living without looking at the income levels in those countries. Can you compare a country where minimum wage is #400,000 and a loaf of bread is #3000 to a country where minimum wage is below #30,000 and a loaf of bread is #1000? Use your brain Bro. Does that justify the allocation of that huge sum of money for mass burial? FreeStuffsNG: Smh. He just woke up. For almost 3 years, the state has advertised and announced severally and even set up a committee for members of the society to come forward and identify or report to them a missing relative, no one came forward for any of these bodies.
The state went further to spend millions to preserve these bodies while waiting for the families, particularly those alleged to be killed at lekkilies, still nobody came forward.
Should LASG continue to keep the bodies for ever or should we forever believe the lie that anyone killed will not have families, friends, neighbours, pastors, imams etc.
If Amnesty International Nigeria is serious, it should not have kept quiet but helped the government publicize the long drawn public announcement to members of the public.
I will support Amnesty if it will offer to bear the cost of the extra days the LASG will be keeping these bodies. It is not enough for them to talk, talk is cheap. What will amnesty undertake to ensure that the families are found and tax payers in Lagos does not continue to bear the brunt and cost of keeping these bodies for ever. They are in govt mortuaries at a cost borne by the govt for almost 3 years now, what does amnesty want to do to help Lagos? |

Politics › Re: My Friend Got Tired Making Money From Fuel Subsidy, Begged President To Stop It by Matrixoba: 3:31pm On Jun 28, 2023 |
As logical as your analysis, it's has some missing bricks. Despite their nonfunctional state, the refineries still have workers and huge money is expended annually on maintenance. No matter your appraisal, it pays more to refine than to import. That's where corruption creeps in. The elites know this very well. Subsidy is free money for leaders. It doesn't exists, so its removal is a sham. Anyways, I respect your opinion on the subject. nairalanda1: The same Abacha under whom refineries were depreciating?
Plus keeping fuel at N11 fro years had a long term effect.
If it was never there, then why are you complaining about its removal?
If there was no subsidy, we would have been paying over N100 for fuel since 2011.
If not higher self.
Plus the looting from subsidy happens because it is at the end free money, and also when you fix prices of products, you foul up the profit motive ....and people would end up using underhand means to earn money.
Fuel costs money to refine and transport. It's not meant to be cheap man. Or how do you expect the refineries to make enough profit to fix things and pay workers?
Ghana, Niger have refineries and no subsidy. And no corruption. And their refineries work.
Only countries that can have subsidy sucessfully and have working refineries are countries like Libya who have populations below 10 million and produce more fuel than Nigeria. Or countries like Iran whose subsidies eat twice their oil revenue...and can live with high debt without complaining as a result. |
Politics › Re: My Friend Got Tired Making Money From Fuel Subsidy, Begged President To Stop It by Matrixoba: 10:34am On Jun 28, 2023 |
In the economics of fuel in this country, Nigeria never sold at a loss when the refineries were producing. Have you even heard of the "Abacha miracle"? Subsidy was a leeway to steal the national wealth. We don't have accurate statistics of fuel consumed in this country, so how do we know the subsidy to be paid? It's simply a sham. It was never there in the first place. Again, we will continue to pay highly for the product since we continue to import. I will leave this conversation for the next 8 years. Then we can continue the analogy nairalanda1: Yes we can so long as the refineries make a profit doing so
Which subsidy was not allowing
Key word,selling at a loss |
Politics › Re: My Friend Got Tired Making Money From Fuel Subsidy, Begged President To Stop It by Matrixoba: 7:27am On Jun 27, 2023 |
Can your country at least refine its products? Do we need to import what we can easily produce? Working refineries=no subsidy, and your leaders know that nairalanda1: The way the subsidy scam works, first there is price controls, then there is payment for the resulting lossess...the subsidy.
The thing is, it is in the payment that opportunity for looting and corruption arises.
At the end, subsidies cost a lot of money because the government has to spend a lot of money paying for potential losses. Based on the fear of the losses being too high, a lot of money has to be paid.
That;s where the looting comes in...
Also, the fact is, when one brings in price controls, you in essence foul up the profit motive. People go into business for the sole purpose of making money...not just for their pockets, but to run their business. Subsidy took that away, made the refineries crash because of prices being kept too low, and then forced us to import, which in turn provided lots of opportunites to make money.
All because we all wanted cheap fuel.
The problem is, there is no such thing as cheap fuel.
Countries that used to do price controls all had one thing in common...massive scarcity, and large black markets. |
