holatin:Holatin Did I in any where state GEJ so far has done a perfect job fighting corruption. Read the second paragraph in my second post on this thread. What I did is show you is how has fought corruption and my suggestions for him going forwards. Moreover I keep wondering why you are refusing to answer my questions. I raised valid points and questions which you are yet to answer. WHY? ... I am waiting for you responses please stop dodging my questions. |
Zikkyy: Detecting in the first place makes it easier for you to prosecute and take appropriate action. You cant prosecute what you can't see. The 60,000 ghost workers are a good case study. If GEJ was heavily on prosecution like Buhari. Our prisons would have 60,000 more people added in one swoop. These people are someones father The difference between the manual and electronic version is that ... the electronic version leaves trails .... now you can easily trace how funds were moved. Given the current complexity and cost of prosecuting corrupt people using the legal process, it is more effective and efficient to prevent them from engaging in corrupt act in the first place by setting up systems that makes it harder. Moreover once these systems are set those that crack the system and carry out crime should be prosecuted |
Zikkyy:Leme rephrase my statement Prosecution is a strategy that yields short term results, but in the long run will prove to be ineffective. Murderer going to jail has it stop people from killing, Thieve been thrown in prison has it stopped people from stealing. Terrorist been killed in battle has it stop people from becoming terrorist. NO. Yes Systems to tackle corruption alone would not stop corrupttion but it is way more effective than prosecution. Surveillance systems put in banks to monitor bank cashers from stealing banks money is more effective than sending cashiers who steal to prison. Like I said earlier going forward GEJ needs to build a more robust strategy going forward. |
Zikkyy: Yes both strategies work hand in hand. My statement does not state that GEJ never pursed prosecution. Infact the EFFCC have prosecuted around 427 case of corruption in 3 years. All I basically brought light was that GEJ's strategy was more Prevention focused than Prosecution. and that of buhari was more prosecution focused instead of prevention. If I were to chose One strategy over the other. I would chose prevention over prosecution. Moreover if you read the summary of my post I highlighted the fact that to defeat corruption going forward he needs a robust strategy. |
jayonpoint:I would have provided you with a response if were civil in your response. Thank you for your comment. |
emiye:I am not pro PDP, because I believe PDP as a party is same as APC. with the high level defection from both camps it is right to say they are both made up of similar people. I have different approach toward politics. I do not support parties I support candidates. GEJ is my candidate (PDP), Rochas of Owerri is my candidate(APC) , Fashola of lagos state is my man (APC) , Akpabio of Akwaibom is my man (PDP), Willie Obiano of Anambara is my man (APGA) etc. I am not spinning tales to demonize the opposition but I am asking valid question ... presenting my convictions. The reason I am addressing APC states as a party is because APC is against my Candidate. For me it is GEJ against APC, not PDP against APC. GEJ has implemented this bill what has APC states done to domesticate it in their states. |
Obiagelli:I am confused ... to really understand this your question so that I can respond accordingly I would like you to give me more context by answering the following questions. 1. The results from how APC has so far has fought corruption in her states 2. The results of buhari's fight against corruption. With that i can answer you question better |
holatin:One thing I would never do, Is try to absolve GEJ or any politician of a corruption accusation ... God forbid. I would rather condemn corruption than defend it. The main focus of this thread is not whether GEJ or his wife is corrupt ... One of the main themes of my thread is how effective have GEJ been in fighting corruption despite his short comings. I shared with you my takes on the strategy used by both candidates on this thread. You as the reader should come to your own personal conclusion on who was the most effective. More you did not answer all my questions... Holatin I asked you a question. Have you ever asked Fashola why he is refusing to domesticate the FOI bill. ? Have you asked Fashola what he is doing to fight corruption. ? Has APC as a party told you how they have been able to fight corruption in their states. ? Why have you failed to address the points I raised about Buhari in my post. I am looking forward to hear your convictions. Do you think Buhari is right by stating Abacha is not corrupt. ? Your answers would influence my continued discussion with you. |
jaybee3:Leme paint the scenario better. 2 fathers have a notorious son that steal every single meat in the pot. Whenever he enters the Kitchen. The First Father (GEJ) creates a new rule in the house that the kitchen is to be locked at all times and that the pot should be hidden, only those authorized to have access to it can see it. The son comes in the first day he sees no pot, he comes in the second day he sees no pot. He comes in the third day the kitchen is locked. After a whole year the son comes to realize that stealing meat from the pot is futile because you can't find the meat in the first place. Final analysis. No meat is stolen... every one is happy. The second father (Buhari) decides to punish his son for stealing meat. He beats the hell out of him. One week after the beating. The son enters the kitchen and still discovers the pot is open. This time he is more careful and ensures no one is watching and he steals again, again and again. The father is pissed when he catches him again. This time he denies him meat and give him 20 lashes. Final analysis. Meat will still be stolen... Boy hates his father the more. Jaybee which father was more effective in protecting the meat. You answer is as good as mine. I hundred percent agree with you that the first step to fighting corruption is education and that GEJ has made some really uncalled for utterances in the past. Going forward he would need to really communicate his stance more clearly. Moreover I have learnt not to judge people not by their words but by their actions. Put GEJ and Buhari side by Side. I think GEJ despite his short coming fared well in tackling corruption. This is one key theme my post addresses. Going forward GEJ would have to develop a more robust strategy if he wins. |
@ posters I am currently in the office at the moment would responds to issues you are raising in regards to my post... once I am on break. Do bear with me for the delay in responding. Moreover keep you comments coming. thank you ... ![]() |
Clerverly:I have spoken to a cab drivers from different regions. The west and east mainly, are more open to politically opposing views. The north are harder to convince. This is not a copy and paste article ... This is 100% original. I wrote this based on my conviction. Very true voters safe guard your PVC. A card made possible by a man who wants your vote to count. The PVC makes it more Harder for electoral corruption to take place because its is computerised. This happened under GEJ. |
RevDesmondJuju:They are not Janjawiid retardds... They just happen to share an opposing political view. |
Obiagelli:He fought corruption by mainly setting up measures focused on preventing it the first place. He may not have excelled in prosecution. That is an area he has to take extremly serious. If he wins. |
Obiagelli:If you read my post critically you would discover where I stated that corruption is still a big problem facing Nigeria. I never in any way absolve GEJ of any blame or pivoted him as a messiah ... Read my second paragraph in my second post in this thread. All I basically did was share with you my convictions as I presented what GEJ is doing so far and What Buhari did . The readers are left to compare which one was more effective in the long run. I also layed down what I hope GEJ implements going forward. @bolded I would be addressing that issue in my subsequent thread where I would be talking about the Economny. |
emiye:That is part of the irony ... an APC rep sponsored a bill that is yet to be accepted broadly by your political party. He that comes to equity should come with clean hands. At second bolded that is why I would vote for GEJ. He signed a bill that would allow Nigerians the power to see more rot in the system and hold their government accountable. Do you know that The House had first passed the Bill in 2006, followed by the Senate but former President Olusegun Obasanjo refused to append his signature to turn it into an Act. All but one (Clause 18) of the 34 clauses in the bill were passed by the House under GEJ. Read more: http://www..com/ng/presidency-judiciary-legislative-and-policies/7968-reps-passed-foi-bill-fours-years-after.html#ixzz3OsLa0hFW |
RedArrow:If you read my post you would discover that he is implementing both strategies. Case in point is the fact that under 3years EFCC handle over 427 case. This is an excerpt from my above post. Matthewbriggs: |
holatin:I need fact and links to support your allegations. Then I would respond to them. Secondly Holatin I would like to ask you to ask you have you asked Fashola why he is yet to domesticate the freedom of information bill.
|
Space for any rejoinders. This is from Curlieweed Curlieweed: |
Moreover Irrespective of his shortcomings I make bold to say that GEJ would be more effective in fighting corruption more than APC's Buhari. I say this for the following reasons. 1. The reaction of the opposition to the Freedom of information bill : In 2014 Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, SAN was dragged before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos over alleged failure to release information and documents relating to spending in public schools in the state. - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/01/foi-lagos-gov-court-spending-education-lagos/#sthash.K6t9MF8C.dpuf A judge of the Court of Appeal, C.C. Nweze, has criticised the Lagos State Government for arguing against the Freedom of Information (FoI) Act, insisting that the action of the government was not only misconceived, but also not in accordance with the provisions of law. http://dailyindependentnig.com/2014/06/appeal-court-judge-carpets-lagos-position-foi-act/ The most effective way of fighting corruption is transparency and accountability, It is more powerful that sending corrupt people to jail. I am surprise that an APC dominated state ... that tells me they mean business when it comes to fighting corruption refused to implement or domesticate the local version of this bill. A corrupt free man or government fears no accusations. In 2014, A government audit of 57 local councils in Lagos State has indicted eight, accusing their officials of squandering at least N224 million of public funds on a range of questionable expenditure and unimplemented contracts. ( http://www.premiumtimesng.com/investigationspecial-reports/169586-exclusive-audit-exposes-massive-corruption-in-lagos-local-councils-indicts-officials-for-squandering-millions.html ) This is an ordinary audit report what happens if Lagosians have more accesses to information on how APC is really running Lagos. Who would you prefer, A man who allows you to see his dirty laundry to a man who hides his dirty laundry for him to make you think his clean. 2. Buhari credentials makes me question his ability to attack corruption: Buhari unlike GEJ has been able to communicate clearly his stance in regards to corruption. He has been able to sell to Nigerians the image of a Nigerian leader who did not enrich himself in office. What he has not been able to sell to me is his ability to tackle corruption especially in the complex democratic terrain as Nigeria. I say this because intention and Results are two different things and Military and democracy are two different terrains. Buhari had the Intention of saving Nigerian from corruption in 1985 alas if you look at the results critically, It is clear he failed woeful in the battle against corruption due to his poor strategy. I say this in this context ... Buhari pursed a prosecution strategy where he jailed corrupt people, he never cared whose ox his gold or where you are located he would come after you. Yes he gave Nigerians the drama they wanted and the kind of news they wanted to hear... he disgraced top corrupt politicians in power but did that really have any concrete effect in the fight against corruption. The answer is a big NO. You do not fight it by locking people in Kirikiri and closing down their businesses, case in point is that 30years later these same set of corrupt people he jailed are roaming free and doing more havoc than ever. In fact under his nose high level corruption took place. Unlike Goodluck he did not leave any lasting legacy or build structures that would outlive him. He's approach towards corruption is a strong pointer to the fact that he has no clear understanding of how to fight corruption. A very serious pointer is his stance towards freedom of speech. The most powerful and effective way of tackling corruption is transparency ... A leader giving citizens the power and freedom to ask the government questions and hold her accountable is more effective that throwing 600 people in prison for corruption. Good-luck has done the opposite he signed the FOI bill. Secondly buhari has no intimate experience of the intricacies of democracy. He would therefore be highly restricted in his fight against corruption. This is not 1985 where the presidents word is final. You can't just throw corrupt people in jail, you have to go through the courts and arm of government not under your control. Good luck Ebele Jonathan may not be perfect. But he is the best thing that has ever happened to Nigeria. I would chose a man whose approach to solving corruption has been centered on building systems, checks and balances that makes it harder for corruption to take place. Than a man who thinks jailing corrupt people is the most efficient way of solving corruption. Moreover feel free to engage me based on the above. Tomorrow I would be writing about Insecurity stay tuned.

GEJ's fight against Corruption: I am been told that Goodluck jonathan is not fighting corruption, that under him Nigeria has lost billions of naira. I hear about the 20Billion NNPC scandal, Stella Oduah & Faruok lawal's scandal, and how under him some corrupt people are going scot free. I am been told that Nigerian is drowning in corruption under his government. MY RESPONSE : In my opinion, I would not want to absolve GEJ of all the blame, I think the reason most Nigerians think GEJ is not doing so much about corruption is because. GEJ has failed in communicating clearly his stance on corruption, Some of his statements on corruption, has sent a not so positive vibe in regards to his plans for tackling corruption. Combined with the fact that he has handled poorly in addressing the key corruption scandals that has rocked his administration. Irrespective of his shortcomings I make bold to say that GEJ is one president that has Silently done quite a lot in the fight against corruption compared to other administration. I say this for the following reasons. Most Nigerians want blood ... They want to see one big man, One senator disgraced and put in kirikri because of corruption. The reason why Nigerians think GEJ is not fighting corruption among many other is because GEJ is not giving them this blood. The challenge is that they fail to realize that there are two main strategies of fighting corruption. They are Prevention and Prosecution. In my opinion I think Good luck is using a prevention strategy. Prosecuting and sending corrupt people to prison is not the best way to tackle corruption. It is a short term strategy that provides immediate gratification but actually does little in fighting in corruption in the long term. The best way to tackle corruption is building systems, erecting structures and strengthen institution making it more harder for corrupt people to carry out corruption in the first place, and making it easier to detect corruption. I am bold to say GEJ excelled in his prevention strategy. Example is How GEJ ended 40 Years Of Corruption In The Agricultural Sector. Most you already know this story. The government use to disburse free fertilizers to farmers through middle men. But they discovered that these middle men instead of giving the fertilizers free to farmers, in fact sold the free fertilizers to farmers. This is what GEJ did. Instead of jailing all the middle men engaged in this act an approach that would be very ineffective. He and his team designed an e-wallet system to disburse the funds for the fertilizers directly to the farmers cutting off the middle men. This strategy has the saved the government millions of naira and now the farmers are now smiling. This is a perfect example of how his government is taking preventive measures to tackle corruption. The consolidation of e-banking and the use of e-payment software to pay civil servants has made it more harder for corruption to take place ... In fact the government has save billion of naira after detecting over 60,000 ghost workers. In the Nigeria of today corrupt activities can now be easily detected, the days of ghana must go is over. because now payments are now electronic. Under him the banks are now more closely regulated. Using his preventive measures he has saved over N1.4 Trillion Worth Of Public Sector Theft Through Import-Waiver Reforms. He was able to unravel the feul subsidy scam and rechannel the money into Capital projects. Under him according to Transparency international our corruption rating has improved We use to be 3rd but now we are 139th. For me the most notable fight against corruption is his signing of The freedom of information bill into law. The greatest tool that can be used to fight corruption is Transparency and accountability... infact it is even more powerful than sending people prison. That is why his signing of the freedom of information bill is a huge step in the right direction. No government would be happy to have much of its able bodied population in prison, By using prevention strategy you do not only keep more Nigerians out of prison. You would also be leaving a lasting legacy that even when you leave office the mechanism you put in place to checkmate corruption would live on after you. Yes we all want to see corrupt people in prison, I share that sentiment as well. GEJ is the first president to give complete independence to the EFCC. Under GEJ, EFCC Has Prosecuted 427 Cases In 3 Years. But Nigerians are yet to feel the effect because no big man has been disgraced and sent to kirikiri. The fact is that GEJ is not a military president whose word is final. He cannot send corrupt people to prison for corruption unless the court of law has proven without doubt that they are corrupt. In terms of prosecuting corruption ... GEJ has faced serious setback that is why he once made a statement that going forward he and his team will draft a strategy to tackle corruption. Therein lies the back bone of the matter, Going forward if GEJ wins he needs to design a robust strategy on corruption one ... It is also important he communicates his stance on corruption clearly and most importantly his resolve to get rid of this panacea from Nigeria.

This thread was inspired by my encounter with a cab driver today. I boarded a cab ... as the journey progressed. The driver started talking about how APC's buhari was the best thing for Nigeria. After spending few minutes with him in that cab discussing politics ... This guy moved from been a buhari supporter to undecided. All I basically did was share with him my conviction on why I think Good luck deserves a second term. The first thing any buhari supporter would do when they start engaging you is complain about Jonathan government. Their complains revolves around three key themes. They are a) Corruption b) Insecurity c) and the economy. In the next couple of days I would be addressing each of these themes on separate threads as I try to share with you my personal conviction. for today I would Start with Corruption |
@ Ichiato ![]() I made an error. corrected. |
Neatly packaged I nearly became a neo buharist until I took my time to look beyond the propaganda spewed by both parties as I tried to understand the deep intricasy of Nigerian politics. I proud to say its GEJ till 2019. |
jaybee3:I would answer this question on a thread I am currently cooking up. ![]() |
Goodluck Ebele Jonathan may not be perfect. But he is the best thing that has ever happened to Nigeria. Call me anywhere I can defend it. I would chose a man whose approach to solving corruption is centred on building systems checks and balances that makes it harder for corruption to take place. Than a man who thinks jailing corrupt people is the most efficient way of solving corruption. |
@ OP is barack obama and all the leaders of the coalition of arab states with their Jet fighters and Kurds/iraqi soldiers on the ground cowards given that for the past 5 months they have not been able to flush out ISIS from a very tiny city called kobani in iraqi. @Op are the Americans coward given that even after killing saddam husseni and setting up military bases in iraqi and spending billions of dollar of US taxpayers money to defend Iraqi ... Upon that tens of thousand of people have been killed and displaced, thousands of American troops killed in Iraq and Afghanistan ... Till now they have not been able to get rid of the alquedia and the taliban. These groups instead of been diminished are growing in strength and numbers. They are becoming more bolder. Infact ISIS now control close to half of Iraqi. Before you make statements, or ask some type of questions ... try to have a deep understanding of a situation. Boka haram is a terrorist organization like ISIS powered by an ideology with funding and support from wealthy extremists in and outside Nigeria. Even if the Military kills 50 today, a hundred more shall rise to replace them in no due time. Even if you kill their leader another shall replace him. The world thought that after the death of Bin landen Terrorism would go down and the moral of terrorist would weaken but that is far from the truth the reverse has been the case. I would not want to completely absolve GEJ of any blame in this fight. His problem in my opinion has been his inability to carry Nigerians along in the fight and effectively communicate what he is doing to dealing with them. His inability to communicate his sympathy during the wake of the BBOG crisis was very wrong. The allegations of corruption and lack of ammunition is something that needs to be looked into that is if that is not already been looked into. Moreover the problem of bokoharam in Nigeria is complex, First you have an army who for the past 30 years have been left to rot, both in equipment and in skilled man power by successive governments. The quality of our soldiers are no longer what it used to. They now expect GEJ to fix that over night. Secondly you have an army and citizenry filled with saboteurs and Boko haram sympathizers. Where as you make plans for attack. They are leaked , you and your soldiers get ambushed and killed. Thirdly you have a divided nation where the opposition would rather oppose the government in her fight against boko haram instead of contributing her own quota towards fixing this problem. In Paris artists were killed ... In America the world trade center fell ... In Australia a hostage took over a cafe ... the recurring theme in all these events is the fact that everyone including the opposition came together united as one, in support of the government in her fight against terrorism. But here in Nigeria we have an opposition that salivates at bad news. Instead of contributing their own quota, they would prefer to make inciting statements. Case in point is when Ihejirika was very hard on boko haram on the onset. Buhari had the guts to open his mouth and say ... "An attack against boko haram is an attack against the north" . This is the type of opposition we have. They utilize these attack to score political points, and have proceed to build their campaign around bad news, finding it joy to become willing tools in boko haram's propaganda of terror. GEJ is no coward ... He is the first Nigerian president to face this new kind of threat. A threat that even the so called world powers with all their military advancement and funding are yet to contain. Yes he would and has made mistakes as he tries to deal with this threat. I only pray he learns from them and become more effective in the fight against them. |
shachris03:How many did Buhari build for Aba. Vote out PDP in ABA. But vote for Goodluck. |
ARKdiscloser7:Their VP... Osinbajo a pastor. Stop been short sighted. Please stop spreading this BS. PDP needs muslim votes to win. |
berem:I would not Stfu... Until buhari goes back to taking care of his 140 cows. I would not Stfu and watch you peddle the fact that a man who could not protect himself from his soldiers to the extent they kicked him out ... this same man thinks he can protect us from boko haram. I would not Stfu and watch you peddle an economically clueless dictator as the best thing since sliced bread. |
