Thanks swisshewart,
Another question is:
Are the reserves and those on supplementary list candidates not suppose to start training with them?
How are those(reserves and supplementary list candidates) that have not joined the specialists cadet measure up with those(the selected) that have been on camp?
Since some specialist cadets have started training already and the reserves and the supplementary list candidates are still out there.
Will there still be any addition to them?
Pls reply..

I have nothing to say to you. I leave u to Nairalanders to do the needful with inciting and cantankerous elements like u. Look at all your Nairaland post and compare to mine. Guy u bluff and fumble too much. U hv to realy man up, because what I do is what real man do.

Mr Ade3000yrs, kindly ignore any element that is trying to talk you down on this forum. All 'they' do is post irrelevant and braggadocios content that has never solved the immediate need of upcoming farmers. I just stumbled on your posts and all I can say is that I got exactly what I've been searching all this while.
Your calculations may not be 100 percent accurate and some vital information may be left out though BUT the fact remains that your cost analyses on agribusiness are an eye opener for me and the rest who care to keep their peace on the forum.
Keep the good work brother and ignore 'bad belle'

Permit me to quote you. Nairaland of today is characterize mostly by 'teenagers' and 'yet to know about life' individuals. The mods and supermods are not even helping matters either. No creative, constructive, insightful, brainstorming etc topics and comments on the forum again. It leaves me no doubt that these set of people you guys mentioned whom I've known too are either tired of the system or left for good. The Nairaland I used to be addicted to has now become a once in 2/3 weeks visitation kiss

Agriculture / Re: Tomato Jos: Mira Metha, Harvard Graduate Who Is A Tomato Farmer In Nigeria by Mattin(m): 8:23pm On Jun 21, 2016
stagger:

In her country, it costs less than 1% to borrow money from the bank. In your country, it costs 28% to do same from commercial bank, and 10% to 15% from microfinance bank.

In her country, she can get a credit card, pay off the fees month by month, and defer paying the principal until her tomato farm yields in 3 months. In your country, your banks charge you all manner of fees to keep money with them.

In her country, the US govt sent $500 to every American during the global financial crisis to stimulate spending and boost their economy. In your country, Buhari cannot even honour his party's promise to pay $17.86 (N5,000) to unemployed and vulnerable Nigerians.

In her country, the government subsides agriculture heavily and gives their farmers access to guaranteed markets. In your country, your agric minister wants to import grass and fodder from Brazil to feed cows and also to do away with fertilizer subsidy.

You want me to go on and on? A Nigerian and an American are not on the same level when it comes to access to things that make life better.

Permit me to quote you sir. You are so on point.
I'm a passionate farmer but when I look at what is obtainable around, I can only but feel bad.
I actually going to take the bull by the horn with God on my side.
Imagine the white lady saying the minimum capital for the Tomato Jos is 25,000 dollars.
Mechanized farming involves money!
In Nigeria, no access to farmland, mechanical equipment like tractors, planter etc, inadequate hybrid crop production etc

Agriculture / Re: Marcotting/Air Layering: Turn A Plant Into A Plantation by Mattin(m): 9:38pm On May 18, 2016
irukandji89:

If you follow my posts you will notice that I always mention some plants that I know have been tested and proven to do well with marcotting method of propagation.

Its not adviceable to plant Some trees like citrus and mostly herbaceous fruit trees from seeds if you are planting on a large scale.

Herbaceous trees are trees with woody stems.
So definitely marcotting will not work for all types of plants.

For example, marcotting will not work on a plant like coconut or oil palm.

Some herbaceous plants also do well when planted by seed. So marcotting may not be necessary for a plant like almond if you are growing almond for its timber and not it's fruits. Or teak.

For you to consider propagation by marcotting, you are trying to avoid some cons which come with planting by seed:

Firstly,
It takes a relatively long time for it to fruit and for it to reach full maturity.

Take orange, for instance

Planting an orange tree from seed will take about ten or more years for it to fruit.

And when it does, it may produce an unfavourable variety like the rough or bitter specie.

Think about planting an hectare of orange trees by seed sowing, waiting all those years, only to get bitter varieties.

Planting by seed lasts longer really, but saying that planting by marcotting will also not last long is being vague without stating reasons.

An orange planted by seed sowing will last for about 50 or more years.

A marcotted orange tree will last for around 40 or more years, so it's a matter of little difference.

And for a person starting a plantation, definitely plans will be in place for a replanting scheme when fruit yields start to decline.

So ... In conclusion, seed planting is not advisable for all plants and it's not also accurate to generalize that all plants will benefit your purpose of planting if you plant by seed.

Which sounds economical?

Planting 100 trees by marcotting, they start fruiting in around 4 years and you enjoy them for the next 40 or so years before they start to decline ( making sure you take good agronomic care of them like application of fertiliser yearly)

Or

Planting same number of trees by seed, waiting for at least 10 years (a huge leap of faith that will be) and then finding out that the fruits are bitter or have no juice in them ( that's how they got those oranges with no juice by the way)

Thank so much for the lecture and enlightenment.
I appreciate sir.

It's debasing if she has a Phd and can't think out the box but carry play card.
If true, there is always a job in the private owned high schools though meagre pay.
Why am I even finding it hard to believe the story and pics

FarmTech:

..
Just want to add that growing trees from seed will give u a healthy plantation that will yield more and last longer. Other means may give u fast result but if u want sth that last long, start from the seed.
..
Marcoting is a good idea though, esp for plants with short life.

Is this true?
Why will plants from marcotting have short life?
Does it mean the plant I got form marcotting will not last their normal period?
Why won't the plants from marcotting last longer?
Why will the plant from seedling last longer than the marcotting plant?
Irukandji89, please share more light into this...
