Chief Okoi Obono-obla, Special Assistant on Prosecution to President Muhammadu Buhari has said that Nigeria needs an Authoritarian leader in order to achieve meaningful development. This is in reaction to an article published by an international medium, Washington Times, an opinion piece entitled “U.N. lends megaphone to Nigerian genocide” in which they accused Nigerian President of genocide. Chief Okoi Obono-obla argued that “The legendary Singaporean leader , Yew Lee Kuan who miraculously transformed a dejected and poverty stricken colonial outpost island within four decades to one of the most advanced technologically country was perceived and regarded in the Western world and United States of America as an authoritarian and anti-democratic leader” “Also General Park, the mercurial Army General who transformed South Korea from a backward and poor country was regarded by the United States of America and the western world as anti-democratic and authoritarian” “I even think Nigeria need a little dose of authoritarianism and democracy! What is democracy? China is a one Party, authoritarian and undemocratic Country by western standards and gauge but it is the second biggest economy in the world” Recall that President Buhari ordered a military operation in south-east Nigeria over the agitation by the indigenous People of Biafra for a referendum which allegedly led to loss of lives and civil unrest in the region. The military operation was followed by proscription of the group as a terrorist organization by the federal government. https://www.financialwatchngr.com/2017/09/21/nigeria-needs-authoritarian-leader-develop-buharis-adviser-says/ Mynd44, Lalasticlala, Seun

Blast from the past |
The President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government has assured U.S. investors of the favourable investment climate in Nigeria, promising the highest returns on investments, more than anywhere else in the world. The Minister of Trade, Industry and Investment Okechukwu Enelamah and his Foreign Affairs counterpart Geoffrey Onyeama, stated this at the Nigeria-U.S. Business and Investment Forum in New York. Enelamah explained that the Federal Government is building the Nigeria of the future where things would be done differently from the way they were done in the past. “Nigeria of the future will be dramatically different from the past and that is what this government is trying to build. “We are building infrastructure; we are providing the enabling environment and we are improving on the ease of doing business. “There is a sense of urgency for Nigeria’s industrialization and we are providing the enabling business and investment environment for investors,” Enelamah said. Onyeama said that the Federal Government would not betray the confidence the U.S. investors already reposed in Nigeria through the forum. “What we are offering the investors is a much more stable environment, a lot of enabling business environment, one-stop shop for registration of names, for getting passport, for coming into the country. “We are offering them customs clearances, all the elements that go into making much more enabling. A welcoming business environment is what we are offering. “And of course we are offering them a huge market of almost 193 million people; we are offering them a bigger market with ECOWAS that they can get access to through Nigeria. “And we are offering them good governance. Those are things they also welcome. We are trying to offer them more security in the country because that’s a point that was also raised.” Onyeama said the high-level representation of the government demonstrated the commitment of the Federal Government to making the partnership really work. “We believe that Nigeria and Africa in general, you get probably the best returns on investment more than anywhere in the world. “We are doing everything possible to rebrand our country so that you can know that you are dealing with a reliable partner. “We want to turn all our embassies around the world including here in the U.S. as hubs for businesses and to provide you all the information you need on Nigeria to invest in Nigeria. And to meet with business partners on the one-stop shop right here without leaving the United States,” Onyeama said. Ms. Yewande Sadiku, Executive Secretary for the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), said the Federal Government was aware of the bottlenecks in the ways of investors and businesses. Sadiku, however, assured that the problems are being addressed. She said NIPC is working to achieve a 25 billion dollar Foreign Direct Investment by 2020, surpassing the Nigeria’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan set target. Mr Anthony Orji, Managing Director of the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority, said the agency had in the last one year, successfully executed one of such partnerships in agriculture. “We put 25 million dollars in a fund alongside an agriculture fund in South Africa which also put 25 million dollars and we are raising 150 million dollars. “This is to be invested in primary production from crop farming to dairy farming and the first investment we have actually closed is a maize and soy farm integrated feed mill in Nasarawa state for expansion. “Some of the people in this room are looking at an opportunity in power, real estate, agriculture, healthcare and our role was to say NSIA is your partner of choice,” Orji said. The forum was also attended by Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Minister of Solid Minerals, Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed and representatives of the Nigerian private sector and US Business. https://www.financialwatchngr.com/2017/09/19/buhari-showcases-nigerias-investment-opportunities-u-s-investors/ Mynd44, Lalasticlala, Seun

Embattled separatist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra on Monday broke silence since a military onslaught code named “operation python dance” was launched in the south-east which subsequently led to the army proscribing the group as terrorist organization; the group said no intimidation would make it to surrender its fight for an independent Biafra nation. FINANCIAL WATCH obtained a statement made available to journalists in Awka, Anambra State by the group’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, it wondered why herdsmen that had several times wreaked havoc in different parts of the country had not been declared a terrorist organisation. It described the proscription of the group by the South-East governors as well as the declaration of it as a terrorist organization by the Defense Headquarters as a nullity. It maintained that only a referendum to determine a sovereign state of Biafra would assuage the group. It accused the Federal Government of having a secret agenda to exterminate the Igbo race, adding that the Abia State Commissioner of Police was playing a rehashed script. The group said “We the family of Indigenous People of Biafra and its leadership worldwide under the command and leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu wish to place on record that the newly appointed Commissioner of Police posted to Abia State is trying very hard to please his Northern Arewa masters by conducting himself in a manner that is clear to all, as complimenting the murderous scripts of the Nigerian Army and Igbo governors as handed down to them by Abuja cabal.” https://www.financialwatchngr.com/2017/09/18/ipob-breaks-silence-not-dead-well-bounce-back-soon/ Mynd44, Lalasticlala, Seun |
Nigeria’s senate president Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has re-iterated commitment to find lasting solution to the clash between the army and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB),. In press statement released Monday signed by himself and obtained by FINANCIAL WATCH, he said; “Following the clash between the military and members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), I hereby call for calm and restraint by all Nigerians so that we would all jointly find the right solution to the current problem rather than worsening the crisis”. “Our brothers and sisters in the South-east, in particular, should continue to maintain peace and tranquility and go about their lawful business. This crisis will not benefit anybody but would only expose innocent people to unwarranted danger”. “At this point, Nigerians outside the South-east who have worked to ensure that the crisis does not spread to other parts of the country deserve our commendation. I therefore call for continued efforts to sustain peace, unity and stability in all our communities so as to ensure that all residents, no matter their religion, tribe and creed remain protected and safe under the law”. “It is also important that commentators and purveyors of information on all media platforms should be conscious of the need, at all times, to maintain the unity of the country. Therefore, they must refrain from circulating information that has the potential for aggravating the crisis. We should all realize, as individuals and as a collective that Nigeria is all we have and it is in our individual and collective interests that we do not stoke the fire of crisis and fan the ember of discord through the message we are spreading. We must all protect and strengthen our country rather than contributing to her collapse and disintegration”. “ I also wish to state that the announcement of the proscription of the group known as Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) by Governors of the South-east states and the categorization of the group as a ‘terrorist organisation’ by the Nigerian military are unconstitutional and does not follow due process. Our laws make clear provisions for taking such actions and without the due process being followed, such declaration cannot have effect. I am sure the President will do the needful by initiating the right process. This will go a long way in demonstrating to the world at large that we are a country that operate by laid down process under every circumstance. So, those who have been hammering on this point should maintain their cool”. “We must commend the military for their efforts in restoring peace to different parts of the country and sustaining the unity of the country. However, in the face of provocation, the military should allow themselves to be guided by their training which emphasizes respect for human rights, even in war. Also, giving the nature of this particular situation, the military has every reason to be hesitant in the use of force”. “ Also, it is my view that we should not over-stretch the military. We need to protect our military against dissipation of their fighting strength. And this means we need to strengthen the police and equip them with the capacity to deal with civil crisis. That is why we, in the aNational Assembly, are already reviewing the Police Act and also looking at the possibility of enabling other para-military agencies to help in curbing civil unrest and maintenance of law and order”. “ I want to also make it clear that the National Assembly intends to embark on a fact-finding investigation aimed at determining what actually happened during the period of the military exercise in the South-east. We want to be able to sift the facts from the fiction and determine who did what. It is quite clear that all the facts are not yet known. We assure Nigerians that there will be no cover up. We intend to lay the facts bare”. “On a long term, we want to remind Nigerians that the reason for embarking on constitution review by the National Assembly was to enable us look into issues that are agitating the minds of Nigerians and creating tension among us. We have promised that the exercise would be continuous. We intend to keep that promise by further taking decisions that would strengthen and improve on our structures. The Eighth National Assembly, on resumption, will play its constitutional role by addressing all those issues that are agitating the minds of our people and over which they feel so strong. I appeal to all our people to always direct their grievances to the right channels”. “Let me further reiterate the need for all leaders of thought -political. religious and traditional- to continue to engage with our people on the need to maintain peace and be our brothers’ keepers”. https://www.financialwatchngr.com/2017/09/18/nass-will-investigate-ipobamy-clash-saraki-assures/ Mynd44, Lalasticlala, Seun |
The recently proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) which has maintained uneasy silence for some days may have a sinister plan to embarrass President Muhammadu Buhari in the United States as he set to to address the United Nations General Assembly. The alarm bell was echoed by Northern leaders who alleged the embattled leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has mobilized Nigerians living in the country to attack the president. The Arewa people under the aegis of Coalition of Northern Groups, CNG, alleged on Sunday in a Press Release obtained by FINANCIAL WATCH that the plan by IPOB sponsors was to humiliate President Buhari, who is billed to speak at UNGA. In the mail signed by the Spokesman for the CNG, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, the northern leaders said that the action was also intended to further provoke the northerners and incite the world against the Nigerian leader and his government. But the northern group vowed to make appropriate response to the IPOB provocation by taking its position against he antic of the proscribed organization to the UN. The northern group however hailed the South-East governor’s for proscribing IOPB once it was declared a terrorist group by the Defense Headquarters, saying that they had been vindicated by such declarations. CNG also lauded the governments of Abia, Rivers and Plateau States for promptly arresting the move by IPOB to set the country on war path and kill innocent Nigerians in the process. The northern group said, “We must state here that our position that IPOB be proscribed, its activities be declared as acts of terror, and its leaders be accordingly treated in the interest of a greater, peaceful and united Nigeria has to a large extent been vindicated which is also reassuring and encouraging. “We also wish to state that we have a priviledged information that IPOB sponsors are mobilizing their members in the Diaspora to humiliate our dear President Muhammadu Buhari in New York where he is billed to address the United Nations General Assembly. “We call on Nigerians to as well overlook this planned unpatriotic action by the IPOB supporters as it is nothing but another antic to provoke reactions. “We assure all peace loving Nigerians that CNG is also preparing to counter IPOB’ foreign propaganda efforts by compiling relevant facts to be presented personally to the UN soon. “Finally, we reiterate the call for calm and tolerance as the authorities diligently carry out their duties.” https://www.financialwatchngr.com/2017/09/18/fresh-plot-ipob-buhari-uncovered/ Mynd44, Lalasticlala, Seun |
Barring any change in stance, Nigeria may soon be thrown into darkness should electricity workers, on the platform of National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, make good of threats to join the impending nationwide strike. FINANCAL WATCH learnt The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, yesterday said loading of products, including aviation fuel, would stop from today as affiliates of United Labour Congress of Nigeria, ULC, begin an indefinite strike. The industrial action is fresh move by the United Labor Congress, ULC, a union that seeks to act as umbrella for both NLC and TUC. However, leaders of the National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Employees, NUBIFIE, said members may not effectively join the strike today because the union just concluded its delegates conference weekend, warning, however, that members would fully join should the strike persist. But the Nigerian Labor Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC, insisted yesterday that the ULC was fake, since it was not recognized by government, and urged Nigerians to ignore the group. Similarly, the Federal Ministry of Labour also held on to its earlier position that the ULC was not recognized by the Federal Government. The Presidency, through the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said last night that the Presidency stands by the Labour Minister’s position that the ULC is not recognized by the Federal Government. https://www.financialwatchngr.com/2017/09/18/nationwide-power-outage-looms-electricity-workers-threaten-strike/ |

ifex370:Is Okowa incharged of power generation? |
When I first visited Abakiliki in 2006 for my post utme, I said if I don't get admitted I will not regret it. Thst was because of the terrible state of the town. It is amazing that in just two years a governor is able to implement a transformation like this. This now makes me ashamed of being a Delta State indigene, just like Ebonyians were before. In my state, we receive the third largest federal allocation but Asaba the state capital is in a terrible state. From ibori to Uduaghan and now clueless Okowa, there's no plan in sight for any meaningful development. Even the governor with 42 sets of teeth have already begun a second term campaign not minding the fact that workers are hungry, Some ministries shut because he couldn't renew office rent and with zero drainage in Asaba. I weep for Delta State. |
