Yesterday United States President Donald Trump pulled out of the 2015 Paris Climate change agreement. He said Ameria will re-enter a renegotiation of the deal. Trump believes the deal is not fair to America on the long run. Lets take a look at what this agreement demands from U.S: - Gives 3Billion a year to other countries from 2020 (countries that may include china and India) - Destroys manufacturing jobs in the US (over 6 million in the next 23 years) and cost the economy $3 trillion - Allows China (economic rival) not to do much until 2030 while America pass draconian laws to cripple its own companies immediately - increase energy costs for the average American All these for reducing 0.2 degrees of warming by 2100. Keep in mind America is already one of the leaders in clean energy both oil and gas. Yet, liberals want to spend the money they dont have on other nations. Trump and many other Americans believes this have nothing to do with the science of climate change. The ECONOMICS of this deal is the problem. Europe is now refusing to to renegotiate the Paris Accord. Why? Because it was NEVER about saving the planet - it was about the money America will roll out - more like milking America dry. Besides believing on the science of climate change is a little bit weired, maybe the whole world is towing the way of gullibility - Trump thinks otherwise! He calls climate change a hoax! Nigeria just recently signed the pact. Only U.S.A, Syria and Nicaragua turned their backs on the deal. Many also believes U.S pulling out will weaken their influence politically, but actually agreeing to the Paris accord will weaken America economically. |

Reno Omokri is a bitter critic, in his latest outburst he alleges marginalization of the igbos because there's no airport in Anambra and Abia.... just less than 2yrs ago his boss GEJ was in power but he (Reno Omokri) that so much love the Ibos did not tell Jonathan to build airports in the states. Now he can say things that can incite violence in an already tensed region. He needs to be reprimanded as he is on a loose end. |
The Government of Sierra Leone has sent a high-powered team to Nigeria to understudy the National Youth Service Corps. The delegation, which is being headed by the country’s Presidential Adviser on Youth, Dr. Sheku G. Kamara, was at the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters today to interact with the Management team. Kamara said the purpose of the visit was to enable Sierra Leone learn from Nigeria’s experience to enable it improve its own National Youth Service. “We researched a lot to learn from all countries that have voluntary youth services after graduation from University, and I am proud to say Nigeria emerged from our research as the best example in Africa. “The purpose of this study tour is to find out what have been your successes, what have been your challenges, and what we should look for to make ours a strong one,” he added. Kamara, who described Nigeria as Africa’s big brother, conveyed his home government’s appreciation of the long standing cordial relationship between Nigeria and Sierra Leone, especially the brotherliness and goodwill shown by the former both in war and peace times. He particularly recalled how Nigeria’s leading role during the Sierra Leonean civil war helped in the return of peace and stability in that country as well as its support to the latter during the outbreak of the Ebola disease. Responding, the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure, thanked the Sierra Leone for recognizing Nigeria’s successes in youth development. Kazaure told the delegation that the NYSC was established in 1973 with a pioneer batch of 2,364, adding that the scheme now mobilizes over 300,000 Corps members every year. He said the huge rise in Corps population was a challenge which the scheme had been managing to surmount. The Director-General, however, averred that the NYSC had gathered invaluable experience in youth mobilization for national unity and development in its forty-four years of existence. He expressed the scheme’s readiness to share its experience for the benefit of the sister African country. A major highlight of the occasion was the presentation of briefs on the mandate and activities of all Department and Units of the NYSC by the Directors. The Sierra Leonean team is also scheduled to visit some Orientation camps in the country for on-the-spot monitoring of activities during the on-going 2017 Batch ‘A’ Orientation course. http://www.financialwatchngr.com/2017/05/23/sierra-leone-understudies-nigerias-nysc-scheme/

Crisis seems to have hit agitators for South East country as a main group, Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign state of Biafra (MASSOB), backs out of celebration slated for Monday. MASSOB has also disowned its founder, Chief Ralph Uwazurike, as well as cautioned that it was is not affiliated to any group called Biafra Independent Movement. The pro-Biafra group says it has no part in any Biafra celebration slated for Monday, May 22, Mr. Uchenna Madu, who claimed to be the leader of MASSOB, directed their members to shun the May 22 celebration and brace up for the main event slated for May 30, which is Biafra Remembrance Day. He called on supporters of the movement not to give up as the birth of Biafra was already in sight. “We have reiterated our solemn oath taking for actualization and restoration of an independent Republic of Biafra,’’ he said in a statement. “We reassure the people of Biafra that actualization and restoration of Biafra is sacrosanct and sacred. “Every aspect of Biafra struggle must abhor deceit, self glorification, tribal/religious sentiments and love for mundane things.“ He said that MASSOB declared support for sit at home exercise for all Biafrans on 30th May, 2017 as a mark of respect and honour to our gallant Biafra soldiers and civilians that sacrificed their precious lives for establishment of Biafra during the war of 1967–1970. “We must continue to remember, honour and celebrate the gallantry and braveness of Biafra soldiers whom the whole world was astonished for their military exploits during Nigeria Biafra war. Their bravery, military excellence, consistency, technological exploits and intelligences can never be forgotten or silenced. He said that MASSOB wished to inform the people of Biafra that “we don’t have any Biafra anniversary program on 22 May, 2017’’. “The sit at home exercise calls for sober reflection on the way forward, it calls for individual and family prayers for speedy actualization and restoration of Biafra, it will also reflect on building synergy and cohesion among the Pro Biafra groups for the preparation for the coming referendum. “MASSOB also reiterates our earlier position that we are not attached to any group called Biafra Independent Movement (BIM), “MASSOB is not BIM, also the so called BIM can never be MASSOB. MASSOB collaborates and work with other genuine pro -Biafra groups like IPOB, Lower Niger Congress, Eastern Peoples Congress, Biafra Peoples National Council, Joint Revolutionary Council and AFRA Descendants. The people of Biafra should disregard the false information that MASSOB will observe Biafra day on May 22, 201, he said. “The golden jubilee celebration of Biafra declaration anniversary will be golden and superlative. It will be a moment of sober reflection among the Biafra agitators.“ He said that the commemoration of the anniversary would bring more unifying forces of non- violence for speedy actualization and restoration of Biafra. “We are aware that Nigeria security agents are not comfortable about the coming anniversary. MASSOB is also aware that security agents will exhibit their jittery and fears mostly the overzealous ones that love operating the trigger in a cowardice manner against non violence Biafra agitators. The threat and presence of Nigeria security agents will not deter us from exercising our fundamental indigenous right. http://www.financialwatchngr.com/2017/05/22/biafra-day-confusion-hits-pro-biafra-agitators-massob-backs-celebration/ Mynd44, Lalasticlala |

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) which measure inflation declined by 0.02 per cent in April, the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, said on Tuesday. According to the NBS in its new report, the inflation rate, put at 17.24 percent, declined a little further from the 17.26 percent recorded in March . This represents the third consecutive month of a decline in the headline CPI rate, indicating some easing in high food and non-food prices. According to the report, the top items to have recorded the highest increases between April 2016 and 2017 across all the divisions were Solid Fuels, Bread and Cereals, Meat, Liquid Fuels, Clothing materials, other articles of clothing and clothing accessories, and Fish. Between March and April 2017, however, the headline index increased by 1.60 per cent in April 2017, 0.12 per cent points lower than the rate recorded in March. Similarly, between March and April 2017, the highest rise in prices were dominated by food items including coffee, tea and cocoa, potatoes, yam and tubers, bread and cereals, milk cheese and eggs and meat and fish. The headline index, the report noted, is made up of the core index and farm produce items. Similarly, the urban index rose by 1.61 per cent in April from 1.76 percent recorded in March, while the rural index rose by 1.59 percent in April from 1.69 percent in March. The Composite Food Index rose by 19.30 per cent in April 2017. Meanwhile, the food sub-index increased by 2.04 per cent in April, down by 0.17 per cent points from 2.21 per cent recorded in March. The rise in the index was caused by increases in prices of bread, cereals, meat, fish, potatoes, yams and other tubers, coffee, tea and cocoa, milk cheese and eggs and oils and fats. The average annual rate of change of the Food sub-index for the twelve-month period ending in April 2017 over the previous twelve-month average was 17.11 percent, 0.51 percent points from the average annual rate of change recorded in March (16.60) percent. The ‘’All Items Less Farm Produce’’ or Core sub-index, which excludes the prices of volatile agricultural produce eased by 14.80 percent during the month, 0.60 percent points from 15.40 percent recorded in March as all key divisions which contributes to the index increased. http://www.financialwatchngr.com/2017/05/16/latest-nbs-report-says-nigeria-inflation-declines/ |

Delta State House of Assembly Speaker, Mr. Monday Igbuya has been impeached this morning during the house session. Mr. Igbuya was immediately replaced with the lawmaker representing, Okpe constituency, Mr. Sheriff Oborevwori as the new speaker. FINANCIAL WATCH authoritatively gathered that Igbuya’s impeachment was signed by 22 out of the 29 members of the house. The lawmakers also suspended the impeached speaker for three months while the former Majority Leader who has now been replaced by Mr Johnson Erijo was however handed an indefinite suspension. There has been obvious moves before now to impeach the speaker. Many attempts have been made. The Committee of the Whole House meet yesterday and adjoined till 10 am today only for a opposing group to spring a surprise by reconvening at 7 am today to impeach the Speaker. A leading member of the House, who spoke under anonymity says the move was illegal since the House rules were breached by the hurried 7 am convening of the House. He nevertheless agreed that only 20 members of the House, not 22 as alleged, carried out the coup. He agreed that they had two-thirds majority to carry out the action. Efforts by FINANCIAL WATCH to reach the chief press secretary of the speaker, Henry Ebieri proved abortive as there was no response on phone calls. http://www.financialwatchngr.com/2017/05/11/delta-state-speaker-monday-igbuya-impeached/

Annual inflation in Nigeria fell for a second straight month in March, showing the early effects of central bank intervention on the currency market to meet demand for dollars, the statistics office said on Thursday. Inflation declined to 17.26 percent in March, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said in a report, down from 17.78 percent in February, which was the first drop in 15 months. A Reuters poll of economists had predicted a decline to 16.70 percent. General price levels in Africa’s biggest economy rose for the 12th straight month in January to its highest level in more than 11 years, as the West African nation battled an economic recession, a currency crisis and dollar shortages, brought on by low oil prices, its mainstay. The NBS said the second consecutive month of a decline in the headline rate represented “the effects of stabilizing prices in already high food and non-food prices”. “It is also indicative of early effects of a strengthened naira in the foreign exchange rate market,” it said. The central bank has sold over $4 billion on the forward currency market since February in an attempt to improve dollar liquidity and narrow the spread between the official and the black market exchange rates. Black market rates have fallen as a shortage of dollars caused the naira to plummet. A separate index showed food inflation at 18.44 percent in March from 18.53 percent in February, it said. http://www.financialwatchngr.com/2017/04/13/cbn-forex-interventions-causes-nigerias-inflation-to-fall-in-march/ |
