I have been experiencing smoke entry my eyes while driving my Toyota Camry since last year. I complained, I was advised to work or change the exhaust pot at the back which I did. I changed the pot in January, yet serious smoke is still entry my eyes when I'm on high speed. pls people, what could be the cause?
You changed exhaust pot and did spending spree for boys cheesy

Is your check engine light on if yes run a scan. By the way what colour of smoke. Black if yes your ride is more than thirsty for fuel than a man in the desert. Perhaps if you are not sure of the colour of smoke go to your exhaust tail pipe dip your finger in it and check what colour of smoke it is. By the way what year of Camry is this.

Last month...Tranny oil change with WS and transmission filter change ...
Reason for this was to fix the slight hesitation while accelerating .
Old Filter was dirty and tranny fluid was light. No metal scrapping found in oil
Any improvement after this. How was the above done?

Hi gazuuz, pls my Honda dc, I notice it doesn't cool once the sun shines, I have changed everything in the ac system, compressor, evaporator and condenser and got new filter... When they did this noticed it cools but I don't think it's cool enough for people at the back to feel it.

And is it normal that when the car is on without ac,the belt that roles the compressor should be rolling or is it only when the ac s on it should start rolling, I have put a thermostat, to regulate the compressor .

Kindly answer because am tired of wrong diagnosis
You caused your problem ya self. Take back AC to factory spec and you would be fine

Your suspension part would make your tyres wear off in time. Your mecho was right lower arm bushings would cause tyre wear off on time. Make sure your suspension parts are in top shape. Have your tyre rotation done frome time to time.

Ñ.B: wheel alignment and balancing centres have cultivated the habits of turning a blind eyes to checking out for bad tyres. Could it be their machines are outdated or fashion objects or they have decided to keep mute inorder to squeeze cash out from the pockets. Last one I did today. I had to use my naked eyes to detect tyres were bent . Wheel balancer didn't see that. It's a big shame

I would continue to say this. The best way to know if your gear shifts fine without any problem is to have you use a professional scan tool to monitor transmission shift performance.its all in there. Humans could be biased, humans could exhibit emotions but the computer would never

Good mrnin bosses.

Quite interesting stuffs to learn here. I have a somewhat similar issue with my camry 2000.

Beginin frm a point of rest, my engine revs very high when shifting frm gear 1 to 2, it kld get as high as 4500rpms provided i throttle hard, takin some few seconds before it engages frm 1 to 2. However, if i suddenly take my foot off the pedal, it engages immediately.

Transition from gear 2-3, 3-4, 4-5 is smooth while car is already on speed.
I tried the 'driving uphill test', car kept on moving slowly and engine did not rev high.

My mechanic thought the atf oil filter may be blocked, so he loosed d oil filter when engine was cold, and put a new atf but problem has persisted.

What could be the problem pls?

Did I mention adaptive reset for this car?

In this context, calibration=software=programming=logic done by Toyota on how the transmission works before it leaves their factory! You cannot modify it. I leave you to christen where this logic is stored in - TCM, ECU, PCM, ECM, but know that it is stored somewhere the processor(s) can access it. All you can do is reflash ECU with updated calibration if it is available. Are you now saying that all Toyotas that have adaptive memory reset functionality have a separate TCM? huh grin grin

Its obvious you have never seen this 'problem' before, the reason you think it was cable, filter etc.

I really do not see any other way to explain this to you. huh : embarassed
Now you are beginning to divert the subject matter. Anyways I would leave it for another day. Great having an argument with you grin
Car Talk › Re: Auto Tanny Goes To Neutral While Cruising by mayor2013: 10:47am On Mar 09, 2018
Calibration of gear is possible on the MB, BMW were VGS and EGS respectively needs to be relearned in cases where transmissions are changed, where TCM are replaced and if one or 2 transmission components are replaced. These 2 control units have mentioned up there are integral parts of the transmission. In a case of a Toyota Camry 2005 no TCM all commands come from the pcm. If you replace pcm when you do the down programming transmission starts working without going into any fail safe mode. No reset of adaptive values on transmission is possible on a Toyota Camry 2005 sir

My fourth paragraph is on Toyota, go back and read it again.

I am surprised you are asking this basic question about calibration. So you think whatever in automobile's name that controls the transmission is not calibrated by the designers? You don't know it runs a software? Did I say a mechanic does the calibration? Is it about semantics now? Have you ever worked with a blank ECU/PCM before?

It is better you say you don't know, and then learn, instead of just arguing for the sake of it. Well, did you know that this transmission in question (in this Camry) actually has two 3rd gear ranges, and selects one depending on pressure? Technically, it has 6 speeds! The details are too technical for this discuss.
Up there I stated I wanted to learn grin. Pointer in 2 directions. Don't let us push this further have seen where you coming from if you talking about a blank pcm that's a rear case.being dealt with here in Naija owing to.the fact that you and I know what needs to come out from the pocket to keep this kind afloat. Software softwares we know. But calibration of a transmission for Camry 2005 is a NO for me sir. You might think it's a calibration using a blank pcm but it's not. Don't be too quick to say it's an argument. I don't see it this way it's all learning
Car Talk › Re: Auto Tanny Goes To Neutral While Cruising by mayor2013: 9:04am On Mar 09, 2018
Kashif:
Calibration is programming or more specifically, strategy in this case. It is in the 'brainbox' programming.

It is a way automobile manufacturers integrate/drive automatic transmissions. That is why you can see same transmission behaving differently in different brands. For instance Aisin transmission in VW and Volvo will behave differently. In some models of Volvo, once you stop for X number of times within X distance, without exceeding X speed, the car automatically switches to Traffic mode. In this mode, it will start in 2 and will delay upshifts. There are many manufacturer-specific strategies like that. ZFs can be programmed in tonnes of ways.

Other strategies could restrict shift when it senses the vehicle is making a bend. This is where it is very important that the same size of tires are installed and inflated equally at all times. Once there is a difference, the vehicle thinks you are in a bend, and you are stuck in a range.

In this Toyota case, it is something I know, and only needed the OP to confirm. It should be noted that the delays are typically 2-3 seconds, depending on how light you go on throttle after applying brakes. If you don't touch the brakes, it stays away. His complaint about 7 seconds is just a psychology thing, as it looks like eternity, especially if you are coming from another vehicle that doesn't deploy this strategy. At lower speeds and brakes are applied, the computer commands the gear to neutral, and will select based on what your TPS tells it. Unfortunately, the computer is just too slow at doing this job well. It can be annoying, but that's the way it is. Like I said before, the heavier you go on the throttle after braking, the quicker the downshift. The reason it doesn't happen at higher speeds is because the computer already knows that a downshift is not likely.

Hope this helps in understanding why a similar symptom in a Honda (or any other brand) could be caused by something entirely different.
I expected you to narrow it down to Toyota sir. I know the likes of Volvo, benz, BMW but for a Camry 2005 what actually are you calibrating when there no TCM. Signals are only picked from the pcm
