Taking their destiny into their hands, trecking the whole 6+ kilometer to the central area!

Untold hardship has been unleashed on the people living in Karu,Nyanya,Maraba and Masaka area adjourning the Aso Rock the nation seat of power. After the boko haram bomb blast at the Police Headquarters, a checking point was mounted along the expressway connecting these settlement (which is about 6 kilometers to Abuja, though a place like masaka is as far as 20 kilometers) resulting to the worst traffic jam one can imagine. People going to work has to trek up to 10 kilometers as all vehicle are virtually at standstill. Is blocking right of pass the best way the government can figure out to curb terrorism? The people in these areas need urgent help!

alfablondy:I was once refused boarding because I don't have a transit visa through South Africa. I told the Immigration Man that if I found out that that the transit visa is not necessary, he'll loose his job!. He told me to go ahead, when I called some embassy officials that I know, they told me I do need a transit visa which the people that invited me didn't tell me. I went back and apologize to the immigration man. The point am trying to make is that if your papers or any conditions at all is pending before you travel, please sit at home and don't go looking for how to cut corners to travel at all cost. Nobody gets award for traveling just for the records. But if you are legit traveler: DO NOT GIVE ANY BRIBE! except you're tipping a fine chick with some sweet behind, which is legitimate. though not a guarantee. |
As far as am concern, those that give bribes are either dumb, in possession of fake documents or has some contraband items on them. In absence of all of these, it is your fundamental human rights to move to anywhere you want to go within your country or to travel as you wish (Article 13 in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights). What first time travelers need to do is to arrive at the airport on time to have enough time before boarding, remain calm, cool and collected. when they tried to extort money from you. If they insist, demand that you know the reasons you are being delayed and what relevant sections of Nigeria Immigration laws backs that. If they make you miss your flight, press charges against them through a lawyer. The first time i traveled, my passport was not even stamped, as am to collect the visa at the port of entry in the country am travelling. When the Immigration guys took me away from the queue, i remained unshaken! when they're tired of holding the passport, they gave it back to me. The secret is, know your rights, stand on it, and don't display any attitude of urgency to travel out of the country, cos if they see how desperate you are, they'll use that to get something from you. These ways, you'll checkmate them. |

You just carried out an inspection of the Senate, are we ready for sitting? We are. Are there not seats in the chamber? We are tidying it up for tomorrow (today’s) session. Are you satisfied? It is ok. What are we expecting tomorrow? We are expecting to sit. I am talking in terms of communication from the President? Well, I am sure he will send some list to us, ministerial list. I hope he sends it. Are we expecting to get the full list of principal officers? I think so. We should. Which zone is producing the Senate Leader? We hear there is a division in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the matter? But where did you say the division is coming from? If you do know the zone producing the Senate Leader, how did you know there is division? I do not know about that. That is not my understanding of what is happening. Are you debating Boko Haram issue tomorrow? If it is matter of urgent national importance, it will be discussed. What about the governors’ stand on the new minimum wage? Why? Allow me to do what is legislative. Am I a governor? Sir, are you worried about the Boko Haram attacks? I am not worried by anything. I am just worried by the way we are going to move forward as fast as possible and I sure you are also worried about that. Tell us, who you are going to work with as Senate Leader? I will work with whoever the leader of the Senate is. |
A task force of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) shielded by fierce-looking police and soldiers, heavily armed, yesterday torched a slum otherwise called Tora Bora located on rocky areas Apo District in the Abuja. The settlement, which has over three thousand residents, was suspected to be the hide-out of criminals and also feared to harbor terrorists. The officials of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) and the Development Control Department stormed the area marked by dirty run-down housing in the early hours of yesterday before they set the entire settlement on fire. Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and those of the Department of Road Traffic Services worked in conjunction of police and soldiers to cordon off the area after chasing away its inhabitants. The houses in the squalor were built mostly with wood and corrugated roofing sheets and the area was crammed full of people from different places. Alice Abine was a resident of the slum and said she moved to the area three years ago with her husband and eight children. “I have a shop where I sell alcoholic drinks and food but t it was burnt down.” Theophilus Abine is Alice’s son and also a student of College of Education, Akwanga. He owned a barbering salon, which was also torched during joint security operation. Moses John, another resident, said his house and shop were burnt by the security agents and one person died in the process. “He was sleeping in the house when it was set on fire. His body was taken away by those who burnt the houses.” He said bars located around his shop loaded with bottles of alcohol were burnt down. One of the army officers told this reporter that undercover security agents had found the area to be full of miscreants and drug dealers. There were people with antisocial attitudes including prostitutes living in the slum. Bags of Indian hemp were sold here, apart from other criminal tendencies, he said. The area needs to be cleared due to recent explosions, he said. The exercise will be conducted in other suspected slums in Abuja, he said. The Police Public Relations Officer in Abuja, Superintendent of Police Moshood Jimoh said the area was identified as a hide-out for criminals including robbers, bag snatchers, drug pushers and people selling stolen properties. “The police recovered guns and sacks full of Indian hemps as well as other forms of drugs in the areas after a raid. The guns recovered included three AK-47 rifles and other locally made pistols,” he said. Based on the findings of the police, the FCT authorities were advised to take decisive action to dislodge the illegal settlement. The Chief Press Secretary to the FCTA Muhammad Hazat Sule said the Administration recently set up special task force to rid Abuja of slums and prevent unlawful activities and traffic congestion, street begging, hawking as well as illegal structures within the Abuja metropolis. “The FCT Permanent Secretary, Dr. Biodun Nathaniel Olorunfemi has constituted special task teams to be located at different strategic flash points across the Federal Capital City to tackle such municipal menace. The FCT Administration intends stop the progress of repulsive incidences because, if allowed to degenerate further, will pose serious security and safety problems to all and sundry irrespective of age, class, religious and cultural background.” Sule quoted Dr Olorunfemi as saying the special task force will be in operation for three weeks with a mandate to take all necessary measures aimed at achieving the set objectives. The Public Relations Officer of the AEPB Samuel Musa said the Board was co-opted into the exercise and tasked with ensuring sanitation. The chairman of second-hand goods traders, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar, said the FCTA authorities had issued quit notices to the people living in the area and after three days, the settlement was raided and burnt down. “I began packing my properties, but I couldn’t finish. The officials burnt down my wooden store and my ware, estimated to be about N900,000.” |
This map showed that just before 2006 here, Nigeria is not a failed state yet! Could we have made a mistake by not giving OBJ a third term. Because, from the Analysis here, it seems the country started falling in 2006, when his third term bid was thrown to the dustbin, and maybe he decides not to serve Nigeria again. Did OBJ planned all that is happening now? Is he the best President so far since the return to civil rule?

What has ever happened to the people they've been arresting ever since? We only hear of arrests but the aftermath is not made public! As we speak, high-level negotiations are going on behind the scene, once the police are settled with their asking prices, they release them again! |
I got this excerpt somewhere! Clause 23(1) of the Bill, allows the security agencies to enter, search and remove evidence from any property, without need for a search warrant, where applying to a judge would delay. Also clause 24 of the Bill empowers the Director General of the State Security Service or other authorized officer to direct a communications provider, including telephone companies, to provide the communications data of any person over any given period. The Bill describes data to mean: information generated, sent, received or stored that can be retrieved by electronic magnetic, optical or any similar means”. The Bill also allows the security services to detain any person on suspicion of terrorism for 48 hours without any access to any person, including lawyers, and may only allow access to a medical doctor provided by the security services. Under the Bill, a person may be held without charge for up to 2 months – a clear violation of the fundamental rights provisions guaranteed under the 1999 Nigerian Constitution of Nigeria. Any person found guilty will be sentenced to death by hanging! THE BIG QUESTION IS: DOES JONATHAN GOVERNMENT HAVE THE GUT TO CARRY OUT ALL THESE! |
ABUJA, June 19 (Reuters) - Nigerian police have uncovered 20 corpses hidden in a tunnel in the southeastern town of Onitsha, and suspect they were victims of armed robbers. Police said they happened upon the hideout on Saturday while responding to an attempted sexual assault in Onitsha's Upper Iweka district, where commuters are often prey to muggers riding motorbike taxis known by the trade name Okada. "The 20 corpses were at different stages of decomposition. Some have become skeletons," said Onuora Ikonso, head of the state police task force. "We suspect the bodies are victims of armed robbery attacks and were dragged into the tunnel, waylaid and killed." He called on the local government to extend an Okada curfew, which currently begins at 7 p.m., "to ensure the safety of travellers". Onitsha is a busy trading port on the banks of the Niger river in southeastern Anambra state, north of the oil-producing wetland swamps of the Niger Delta. Unemployment, lack of focus are the causes! Some peeps knows all the players in all the clubs in EPL, they don't stop in watching the match, they wake up the following morning and spend several hours arguing who did what and what happened when in last night match. Some of these players they admire cannot even point at Nigeria in world map, but I've heard some fools stab others over EPL arguement. Am not against watching football, but the unusual attention paid to EPL is not worth it. Nigerians are so stupidly crazy about EPL that they brand their cars, belt, towel, wears after the club of their choices. I guess very soon, banks and other corporate organizations will soon be including "YOUR EPL CLUB"------- in their customer registration form |
