^^Riquelme failed to fit in at every club he was at. Even when he shined at Villareal and Boca, he still fell out of favour in the end. And don't mention his time at Barca.

Ozil is the kind of player I don't like. I've been watching him in Germany. He shined for 1st half of the season, then completely disappeared and became a liability, only to resurface in the last three games of the season. These players are the type who expect to be carried by the team. You won't see likes of Xavi and Fabregas showing such inconsistency cos they get stuck into the nitty gritty as well. Ozil has inferior mentality.
While i agree that Riquelme is as lightweight as Ozil (a player i do not rate much), Riquelme's problem were more of a personality disorder than his style of play.
He was and still is a difficult human being to have around in a team. When he was no longer worth the effort, Villareal shipped him out.
Some one said Ozil is inconsistent, that must explain why i don't rate him much.I always seem to watch him on his bad days.

I have maintained all season that there are 3 players that need to be on the chopping block, 1) Johnny Evans; 2) John O'shea; 3) Tomas Kusckak.

Once those three are on the pitch, expect at most a draw, usually because they cant defend a lead and if its a loss, its because they defended so badly the entire team is helping them defend and can't attack,

abeg what is recurrent expenditure huh
in very lay terms;
expenditure that reoccurs during every budget.
stuff like salaries, buying of fuel for office generators and buying paper for the copiers.
economic textbooks will say;
Recurrent expenditure on goods and services is expenditure, which does not result in the creation or acquisition of fixed assets (new or second-hand). It consists mainly of expenditure on wages, salaries and supplements, purchases of goods and services and consumption of fixed capital (depreciation).

Politics › Fraud Detected In Call To Bar Final Exams by mbulela(op): 8:34am On Nov 25, 2010
From Tobi Soniyi in Abuja, 11.24.2010
Following a report of leakages in the Nigerian Law School's Bar final examinations conducted in August 2010, the Body of Benchers has suspended the screening of successful candidates in the examinations.
The screening, which is a pre-requisite for call to bar of successful candidates of the Nigerian Law School, was scheduled for next week.

At a meeting presided over by Justice Dahiru Musdapher of the Supreme Court who is also the Chairman of the Body of Benchers, it was resolved that the allegations of leakage should be investigated to determine whether to cancel the examinations and order a retake or allow the results of the examinations to stand.
The body will again meet on Monday, November 29th, 2010.

Some students had written an anonymous letter to the Body of Benchers, the body statutorily empowered to call successful candidates from the Nigerian Law School to bar, stating that, "all the question papers for the examination were leaked to students who could afford to pay the price fixed by some staff of the law school who were involved in the examination processes."
The students said the price paid for each paper ranged between N500,000 to N1 million.
According to them, the leakage was effected through the internet and also by distributing hard copies of the question papers to the students that were wealthy enough to pay the prices.

The Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) of the Nigerian Law School has already confirmed the leakage.
In a report of its investigation submitted to the Body of Benchers, a copy of which was obtained by THISDAY, the ACU alleged that the papers leaked through one Mr. Bello Bala, the Personal Assistant to the Director-General of the law school, Dr. Tahir Mamman.

A member of the Body of Benchers, who confided in THISDAY, said the body was worried that the integrity of the Nigerian Law School would take a dive once the leakages become public knowledge.
The report also alleged a cover-up on the part of the DG who after he was confronted with the evidence of the leakage wrote to the Body of Benchers denying any such leakages.

Similar leakages took place in the Kano Campus of the Nigerian Law School during the 2002 Bar Final Examinations where the school’s present DG was a director. The examinations were subsequently cancelled and a retake was ordered by the Body of Benchers.
Already, pressure is mounting on the body to cancel the leaked paper, titled “Cooperate Law and Practice”.
Despite the alleged overwhelming evidence confirming the leakage, the DG of the law school, Mamman, has written a letter to the Body of Benchers denying the leakage.

The letter dated, 19th November, 2010, which was a response to a query sent to him by the Chairman of the Body of Benchers, was also obtained by THISDAY.
Mamman said: “I acknowledge yours on the above matter and wish to state that to the best of my knowledge and information, the allegation was untrue.

"Like in any examinations, students generate rumours of malpractice which the administration routinely checks. Such rumours, like this are not accompanied by concrete facts or identification of its author for proper checks and investigation.
“I therefore advise that this allegation is discountenanced because the labour and handwork of majority of students should not be negatively affected by the unfounded claims of a few who probably failed their examinations or have other reasons to complain."
Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Richard Akinjide (SAN), expressed concern at the leakages and asked the Body of Benchers to commence an investigation into the allegations.

A copy of his letter to the Body of Benchers which was obtained by the newspaper read: “I write as former chairman of the body of benchers as well as the current Chairman of the Body of Senior Advocate of Nigeria and former Attorney-General of the Federation and President of the Nigerian Bar Association of the Nigerian Bar 1970-73.”

Another senior lawyer, S.M. Olakunrin (SAN), has also written to the Body of Benchers asking it not to treat the leakages with levity.
Olakunrin’s letter, which was obtained by the newspaper, read: “I, as a life bencher and former chairman, would urgently recommend that you send an urgent request to the Chairman of the Council of Legal Education and the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School to forward to you details of the examination malpractice and to forward the names of the three hundred candidates (300) alleged candidates involved for onward transmission to the Chairman of the Screening Committee of the body, so that the screening committee will not screen any such names that may be brought up at the screening that is coming up next week.”

Another senior lawyer, Mrs. Hairat Ade-Balogun (OON), has written to the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission (ICPC), Justice Emmanuel Ayoola (rtd).
Excerpts from the letter read: “Information has reached me that there was a leakage in the examination questions for the bar finals at the Nigerian Law School in the recently concluded examinations.
“I was also informed that about 300 students were found to have been involved. The only action taken by the Authorities of the school was to enquire and discover that a staff member of the Nigerian Law School at Bwari was involved and the staff was instantly dismissed.”

A member of the Body of Benchers, however, confided in the newspaper that the body found the defence of the DG unconvincing in the face of overwhelming evidence all of which were within the knowledge of the DG.

SA is long past a BRIC status, and it would be like demoting them. BRIC's have an "emerging" potential. SA is long established, just another whiteman's land within Africa.
Nigeria has all it takes (Population, Land, HR, Natural Resources), though we need a game changing plane that would make us the next target of the benefits that comes from been the next BRIC.
If we can fix security, education, electricity, and the government can build good roads, the rest will take care of itself, and SA can kiss her status in Africa goodbye.
On what basis do you make these assertions.
They sound worrying and incorrect.

I do agree on the political front though. We need serious political reforms in Nigeria. At the very least, we need strong and purposeful leadership. Just someone who can come on board and put the structure in place to achieve some degree of the available potential.
South Africa needs the same.

I think the major consideration for BRIC is population. Many tigerist economies are doing bether than them in terms of development. So, I have to agree with your assumption. It is not just about development, the size in terms of land mass and population is what truely defines BRIC.
If it is just that, then Indonesia should have been there and would be there before Nigeria, methinks.

Politics › Revealed: Atiku Defeated Ibb By Just One Vote! by mbulela(op): 7:41am On Nov 24, 2010
THISDAY can report today that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar defeated Gen. Ibrahim Babangida by just one vote to emerge the consensus candidate of the Malam Adamu Ciroma-led Northern Political Leaders Forum (NPFL) in the forthcoming Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s presidential primary.

It has also emerged that former Vice-President Alex Ekwueme will head a five-man committee to pick a running mate for Atiku, who yesterday said zoning was the bedrock of Nigeria’s unity.

But the Deputy Director General of the Ibrahim Babangida Campaign Organi-sation, Senator Kanti Bello, has described the decision of the consensus committee to select Atiku as “incomprehensible”.
While Atiku got four of the nine votes cast by the Consen-sus Committee, Babangida got three while Governor Bukola Saraki got two.

The nominee of former National Security Adviser (NSA), Lt. Gen. Aliyu Muhammed Gusau, is said to have cast the decisive vote for Atiku, although it was not clear if he did so under instruction from Gusau who did not score any vote.
The four persons who voted for Atiku, according to THISDAY sources, were Alhaji Bello Kirfi, Alhaji MD Yusufu, Baba Yero Mafindi and Ambassador MZ Anka.

Malam Ciroma, Senator Jibrin Salihu and Alhaji Magaji Dambatta were said to have voted for Babangida. Former PDP national chairman, Chief Audu Ogbeh, and Major-General David Jimebewon reportedly voted for Saraki.
The outcome of the exercise has surprised many, considering the fact that majority of the consensus committee members had given the impression that they would vote for Babangida.
A source, who witnessed the vote, told THISDAY yesterday that the vote of Yusufu was cast by an Atiku ally and former governor of old Kaduna State, Malam Lawal Kaita.

"MD Yusufu was not at the meeting but he instructed Kaita to vote for Atiku. There was a lot of bad blood among the wise men, especially when an argument ensued between Ciroma and Ogbe as to the method to be adopted for the voting.
"Ogbeh said the voting should be by secret ballot but Ciroma resisted. However, the intervention of the other members led to the adoption of the secret ballot system.

"Ciroma then insisted that all the members should use the same pen in marking the ballot paper and also have the ballot papers burnt after the voting. All the members agreed," the source, who declined to be named, added.
At a world press conference in Abuja yesterday, Atiku described zoning of political offices as the bedrock of the country’s unity.
He accused President Goodluck Jonathan of betraying zoning after he attended a meeting and where he voted for it.

Atiku took on Jonathan, asking rhetorically, “Why are our budgets not being implemented? Why has the money in our Excess Crude Account disappeared at a time when oil prices have been way above the benchmark used for our budget estimates? Why are our foreign reserves being depleted to dangerous levels leading to rating agencies downgrading our status? Why is this government quickly dragging us back to indebtedness after we worked so hard and sacrificed so much in the past to pull ourselves out of debt slavery? Clearly we need a new leadership.”

On zoning, he said: “It is the mechanism which, at this stage of our development, ensures that every segment of the country, especially minority groups, has a chance of producing the occupants of the most important offices in our country.”

According to Atiku, “We are a diverse people who recognised early in our history that national unity, fairness and equity require that we share positions of power among our diverse peoples. That is what we call zoning/rotation of public offices. That was why in the First Republic, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe from the South was ceremonial president, Tafawa Balewa from the North, the prime minister and other key positions went to people from various ethnic and religious groups. We maintained that tradition under military rule and through all civilian administrations. Zoning and rotation have never been perfect, but we have always recognized their importance for the peace, unity, fairness and justice in this country.

“It was against the background of alleged domination of the polity by the Northern part of the country that the founding fathers of the PDP came up with the zoning policy which has now been entrenched in our party’s constitution. Zoning has become part of our political culture. That is how the PDP zoned the office of president to the South in 1999. In 2002, an expanded caucus of the PDP reaffirmed the zoning of the Presidency to the South for another four years after which it would be the turn of the North for eight years. Our current President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, was present at that expanded caucus meeting and voted in support of zoning.

“Those who were promoting this devil-may-care attitude demonstrated quite early that they would employ the power of incumbency and whatever means necessary to achieve their objective even if it means tearing this country apart. That is what led to the search for a consensus candidate in the North, to which the PDP had zoned the presidency. We believe that Nigeria is bigger than each of us individuals, including the incumbent president and that the unity of this country, equity and justice require that existing agreements freely entered into by individuals and groups be respected.

“This is not a North versus South thing as some dishonest people would like to frame it. It is about honour, trust and fairness. Our words must be our bond. We must learn to respect agreements so that the unity of this country may endure.”
A statement from the Jonathan/Sambo Campaign Organisation denounced Atiku’s claims.
It read: “The allegation by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar that President Goodluck Jonathan broke the Peoples Democratic Party agreement on zoning is not new. He and his political associates have persisted in rendering this untrue account of the evolution of the zoning policy of the party since they entered the race earlier this year. Our understanding of the issue, however, is that until August 12, 2010 when the National Executive Committee of the party approved a zoning policy, the party had none. Whatever existed before then was a whimsical arrangement among some party leaders that could not replace the provisions and guidelines laid down by the constitution of the party for decision-making and policy formulation.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the subsisting zoning and rotation policy of the party is: where an incumbent president dies in office, his successor shall, notwithstanding his zone of origin, be entitled to the rights and privileges of the previous occupant of the office, including the right to seek re-election. This is the policy enunciated by the NEC on August 12 and the agitation of Atiku against President Jonathan’s aspiration, which is in line with this policy, is in keeping with his knack for disrespect for the authority of the party.

“Let us be clear about this: Vice-President Atiku’s endorsement by one of the numerous informal political associations in the country represents no serious challenge to the aspiration of President Jonathan because the PDP and its members are not looking for a sectional leader whose antecedent suggests he is an unreliable party man. A man who will abandon the collective simply because of a temporary setback is certainly not one to be relied upon as the party's flag bearer. This in any case is subterfuge; an exercise in futility that will lead its participants absolutely nowhere because we are confident that in January, our party men and women will separate the wheat from the chaff.”Meanwhile, Atiku has set up a five-man committee charged with the responsibility of selecting a running mate to him as the presidential candidate.

The running mate to Atiku is expected from any of the five states of the South-east geo-political zone. The committee is headed by Ekwueme. Igbo leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu, is also expected to be in the committee. THISDAY could not confirm the identities of the others.

So far, two known names are said to be contesting for the running mate slot. They are the former Senate President, Chief Ken Nnamani, and the former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Charles Soludo. Both were present at the press conference.

Also, former Director General of the General Aliyu Gusau Campaign Organization, Senator Ben Obi, has been tipped to emerge as the new Campaign Director-General of the unified campaign.

All the four campaign outfits of Babangida, Gusau, Saraki and Atiku have been collapsed into one.The campaign chiefs of the four groups attended the press briefing.

Meanwhile, Senator Bello has described the decision of the consensus committee to select Atiku as “incomprehensible”.
Bello, who was reacting to Atiku’s selection in an interview with the Hausa Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) said: “Well let’s pray to Allah, though this choice was contrary to what is in my mind. Let’s pray it is the truth. If I had known Atiku would be their choice and he was the right candidate, I would have followed him because I am not a fool.”

Every Vote Counts

For Atiku: (1) Kirfi (2) Yusufu (3) Mafindi (4) Anka

For IBB: (1) Ciroma (2) Salihu (3) Dambatta

For Saraki: (1) Jemibewon (2) Ogbeh

What’s wrong with Sowore’s approach to asking questions? Sometimes you have to ruffle the feathers of politicians to get them to respond. It’s a provocative style, but great leaders should know how to handle these kinds of questions. We may not like his style, but the important thing is that was he helping in the quest for the truth.

I admire what Gov Fashola is doing in Lagos state; in fact anytime I visit Lagos I’m always impressed at how much his administration is doing to make Lagos a better place to live. And I believe he is by far the best performing Governor in Nigeria; he deserves that accolade. However, I was very disappointed at the manner he responded to the questions. Yes, he educated us on the process of disbursement of federal revenue to the states, but that was not we wanted to know. Besides if the process was iron-clad how come Ibori siphoned so much money from Delta state?

While affirming that Tinubu is not the owner of Alpa Beta, he should have provided a more reassuring answer like who exactly is (are) the registered owners of Alpha Beta. If a private company is collecting revenue on behalf of the people of Lagos state, information on the major Shareholders and Directors should be public knowledge. This should not be shrouded in secrecy. The question of the relationship between Tinubu and this present administration seems to hang in the air.

His body language , the moment he heard it was Sahara Reporter asking the questions became very dismissive towards the reporter and almost like “this nuisance again”.  And finally to come out and say “I don’t read you” was really arrogant and uncalled for. This for me was not one of his finest moments.

And those people clapping and cheering in the background were really nauseating.
His body language , the moment he heard it was Sahara Reporter asking the questions became very dismissive towards the reporter and almost like “this nuisance again?
Are you imagining it or you were expecting him to call Sowore to the stage and give him a bear hug?
It is not like Fashola is the the most emotive person around.

While affirming that Tinubu is not the owner of Alpa Beta, he should have provided a more reassuring answer like who exactly is (are) the registered owners of Alpha Beta.
Are you kidding me? Does Sowore not know where CACC is? Should Fashola be reeling off the owners of every company doing business with the government at every turn?Sowore is making an accusation, what stops him from providing a proof or solid evidence.Let it be that Fashola tells him that the document is forged or fake.

And finally to come out and say “I don’t read you” was really arrogant and uncalled for.
Many people on this forum have said they don't read Sahara, does that make them arrogant?
On several instances i have relayed breaking news to friends and when i tell them the source (Sahara), they say wait until someone more reputable carries it.

And those people clapping and cheering in the background were really nauseating.
Your nauseousness was probably bias induced. I also think i heard some approval when Sowore was shouting his questions.
On almost every televised tv interview i have seen in the best of media the audience express their emotions for or against the speakers.

We may not like his style, but the important thing is that was he helping in the quest for the truth.
He is undoing his good works by his uncouth attitude.
Notice that no one has argued with the content of his questions but his conduct.
media business is a dignified business.all that guerilla tactics have its place but its place is exagerrated in a democracy.

Fashola is no saint and in fact i am pessimistic about the entire political space but we have to do things with some decorum.
I am not a fan of Fashola as i think the hype around him is excessive.
There is nothing that Sowore said there that is groundbreaking,it has been discussed in every internet forum and in beer parlours.
What is needed is proof to butress the points. That is the iinvestigative journalism that is needed.
Else we are better off lynching all our governors and NASS members with burnt tyres and practicing criminality in the name of militancy.
