Originalsly: True.... but the blame goes back to the sender. He should've verified the info sent ... to make sure the friend got the correct info. If he had done that he would've caught his mistake. Who knows?.... maybe the friend is an illiterate ... think it's easy for an illiterate to notice names don't correlate?... that's if he even looked at the name .... illiterates stay clear of writings! The kind excuses you guys make, wonderful! An illiterate literate enough to create a thread on nairaland but not send correct account number |

Adebaba1: both of you at fault despite the measures banks put to avoid this kind of situations, people will still mess up
in as much OP is at fault of sending wrong account details the sender should have confirmed with OP if it is the desired account especially when the account name doesn't correspond with the OP's name You never can tell in what situation the sender sent the money. What if the op was on his neck to do an immediate transfer? Any delay by him would have been seen by the op as reluctance to pay hence the speedy authorization without confirmation. |

Obnoxious2001: Without much epistle, So I sent a wrong account no.,a correct Bank name and account name to a friend who I was expecting some funds from.
No he copied the acct no. And sent the money (to another person, the wrong acct. No. I provided)....
Now we had a discussion which lead to analysing the situation and I told him we both have blames on this transaction, but he doesn't want to acknowledge his fault.
Now the main question is If you sent money to a wrong bank acct, who is to blame
You are to blame for providing the wrong account. If you sent me an account number and i copied it from your message and posted it, i may not feel the need to check the account name as I didn't make an input that may make me make a mistake. |

Politics › Re: Cost Of Living In Nigeria Is Cheaper Than UK Or US by mcdokwe(m): 8:49am On Dec 04, 2023 |
psalmsjob: I'm posting this as a response to the topic that made Nairaland front page yesterday; "See What Someone Bought With An Hour Minimum Wage In The UK £10", the link: https://www.nairaland.com/7929193/see-what-someone-bought-hour
UK & US ARE OVER-RATED NIGERIA IS STILL BETTER in terms of cost of living see a practical example why doing a price comparison: 1 pound to 1 naira today is N1,001 so are you saying with £10 x N1,001 = N10,001 you cannot buy everything in that basket and collect change in Nigeria today?
1 Sliced Bread = N800 2 Spaghetti = N1400 1 Gesha = N600 1 live chicken = N3,000 1 75cl soya Oil = N1,400 1 Midium size Butter = N600 2 Gino Tomato paste = N1,000
Total = N8,800 so your change is N1,200 that's if you exchange pound to naira at offical rate and buying at the most expensive stores or high brands. If you exchange at black market rate and buy at public market "days" you will collect as much as N6,000 after buying everything in that basket....that's about £6 left.
LET'S JUST THANK GOD FOR WHAT WE HAVE AND STOP LOOKING AT AND GLORIFYING ANOTHER MAN'S LAND MORE THAN OUR OWN....OUR OWN NA OUR OWN O Why are you changing pounds to naira? Use the naira you made in one hour to buy it |

Politics › Re: Addressing The Myth That The Oba Of Benin Does Not Leave His Palace Or Travel by mcdokwe(m): 7:28am On Nov 28, 2023 |
naptu2: I heard a similar myth about the Sultan of Sokoto in the early 1980s.
Sir Siddiq Abubakar III was Sultan of Sokoto from 1938 till 1988. He was old and ill by the early 1980s. He almost never left his palace. In fact, when people came to visit him, he would whisper what he wanted to say to a man that stood near his throne, then the man would tell the guest what the Sultan said.
Sir Siddiq joined his ancestors in 1988 and President Babangida installed his friend, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki as Sultan. This annoyed the people of Sokoto, who wanted the late Sultan's son to succeed him. There were very serious riots in Sokoto at the time.
General Abacha removed Dasuki and made Sir Siddiq's son, Alhaji Muhammadu Maccido, the Sultan and this pleased the people of Sokoto.
Alhaji Muhammadu Maccido travelled regularly. In fact, he was coming back from a National Council on Education meeting in Abuja when his plane crashed and he died. His brother, Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar became the Sultan.
Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar, like his brother, also leaves the Palace and travels regularly.
I am sure that Sir Siddiq also travelled regularly when he was younger.
The fact is that traditional rulers don't travel often and there are times when some traditional rulers need to be in seclusion, but that does not mean that they do not leave their palace or travel at all. Abacha didn't remove Dasuki Sha, Dasuki was instead removed after the death of Abacha... That I am very aware of, even as a kid in Sokoto then. I can remember vividly the jubilation that followed. |
