Politics › Re: Nigeria Protests Over Biafra Activist's Arrest - BBC by meccuno: 11:50pm On Dec 08, 2015
PresidentBuBu:
As an Igbo man i have always been divided on the Biafra issue. The reason is
simple, i had always found it a waste of time and simply thought it was the
product of jobless miscreants but soon i started to ask myself do we really act
like a united country.
Nigeria over the years has never really been a peaceful country there has
always been riots over many issues we've had the Niger delta struggle, the
Biafran struggle and even the Yorubas were agitated during the abiola crisis
and of course the many pointless pogroms. Does this look like a united
country to you. Look at newspapers everyday and check if you wont see nasty
tribalistic comments from the likes of ffk okupe igbokwe junaid mohammmed, i
mean people were scared Nigeria would burn or never be one again because of
something as simple as an election. You even leave your state and you don't
feel safe anywhere else. You hear politicians saying things like an Igbo man
would never rule Nigeria.
The Nigeria we are even agitating for is a failed state despite all the money it
controls. The funny thing is the only place really apart from the capital is
Lagos(not even a world standard city) yes the state where everything in
Nigeria happens from imports to even presidential primaries but guess what
half of it is in shambles and despite that it doesn't even make up to1% of
Nigerias landmass, we don't know our population. Our revenue is hidden so
corrupt leaders can loot politicians from the 60s some of whom who
committed genocide are still leading us ethnoreligious protests and deaths
happen on a daily basis, the economy is currently gasping for breadth and the
government is not even batting an eyelid, no standard universities built the
ones we are managing were built by the British or azikiwe and co.
If you think that's bad i want you to see it from an Igbo point of view no
federal presence since in 1967, no real say in thee production of the president
of your country because of over bloated voters register having to travel to
hostile states just or a thing as simple education just because the government
refuses to do anything for you, unaccepted and collectively hated in Nigerian
politics(lets face it majority of the hate for Jonathan really came form the
support we had for him). You are always the predominant victims in pogroms
that happen in other parts of the country and the government doesn't even
care(THIS CAUSED A CIVIL WAR PEOPLE)
and the most annoying thing is no matter how many times you complain
about it everyone tells you to shut up because everyone else is suffering and
smiling. Many of your people have to go to crime to cater for themselves and
everyone in your country sees you as untrustworthy and fraudulent. You have
to beg, cajole, promise to support, praise, remind the government for probably
the MOST IMPORTANT BRIDGE IN NIGERIA.
And then there is the promise of a Biafran a place where you can create your
own country with a constitution that caters to the need of of your people
rather than some selfish elements. A place where your votes are more likely to
count than it ever did in the "ONE NIGERIA". A place where you do not have to
reject your ethnicity to be noticed by the government. It might sound like a
grand illusion to most people but an illusion is always better than having to
face a horrible reality.
Then there is the Nigerian reaction to the Biafran struggle most serious
governments in the world world would take the agitation seriously i mean
bigger countries like the soviet union had been dissolve for far less reasons
but what do we hear ABSOLUTE SILENCE. Rather we hear statements from
politicians and citizens alike such as they are miscreants, they are
irrelevant,Igbo land is landlocked, they want Biafra, they want to die like
their parents , they are delusional. These comments like it or not will not stop
the agitation like it or not they would only serve as to further drive a wedge
between us all.
I believe in a Nigeria in which we will be internationally recognised as a first
world country where we can be proud to carry our passport anywhere in the
world where our children can compete with the best there is in the world.
Believe me this is the desire of every true Nigerian patriot everywhere but
guess what : we are not anew and young nation we are over fifty years in age
do you think it is possible when we let tribalism determine our leaders for us.
Every election i have seen potential wonderful leaders thrown away because
they are not rich enough or they don't belong to the biggest party, we are
currently recycling one of our former leaders, i ask then, when shall we the
youth get the real chance to rule our nation when shall we allow fresh leaders
with bright ideas the chance to govern our nation. Just imagine a situation
that Osinbajo was currently our president, the opposition would not even find
a chance to complain. Every serious prospering nation had to make sacrifices
to progress look at South Africa Germany Rwanda Brazil these are countries
that had to undergo a drastic revolution to finally progress.
Why not Nigeria? The answer is because we don't think with a united mind we
have a situation where some of our leaders would prefer to marginalise a
section than the upliftment of thiers and in that lies the real problem.
Mandela was once called a terrorist, Switzerland and Luxembourg are
landlocked nations and a seaport can even be created in the imo or azumini
river with a serious leader however all these things are just distractions for
now. It is not by killing or threatening to kill people if they disagree that you
will get their love. I was always skeptical about the Biafran agitation but
seeing recent events has made me more and more in love of the idea. I have a
lot to lose personally because all my property and life is in Lagos but that is
not a good enough reason why i should discourage my people from airing their
grievances if Nigeria really does love Igbos i should not be scared in the first
place. With vision we can create a new city even greater than Lagos.
I use to be a proponent of one Nigeria but things have changed.
Biafra is not just an agitation it is an idea that has lived through generations.
The mighty soviet union dissolved so also the Roman and ottoman empires.
No nation on the surface of the earth is permanent. Igbo people want a
country where they can leave in peace. We are not poor : Imo and abia state
produce up to $4billion dollars a year in oil sales alone that is more than even
some African countries. However it is time for Nigeria to start treating us and
all other citizens rightly, because like it or not these are just signs of a new
greater revolution on the rise and when it comes we will not be able to ignore
it.
So i saw give us good governance or give us Biafra.
for those who really want to know why the masses in igbo land decided to protest, this is your answer.........so that the ignorant ones should stop saying it was sponsored by the PDP......its irritating when I read it...........

The cry was always there. The cry goes on in the Niger Delta too. The works of Donald Duke, Amaechi and Akpabio cushioned the negativity the Niger Deltans had for the Federal Government.

GoodLuck did little for the Niger Delta or the Igbos. So with or without GEJ winning, the cry would continue.

I feel the problem is not Marginalization or a leader from a region. That feeds our ethnic and religious hunger. It does nothing to bring developments to the region.

Development comes from the leaders close home. The governors, the Senators and the House of rep members, the LGA Chairmen and Councilors and the state house members.

These men waste Billions that can change the plight of the Igbo people but no one points a finger at them. The Federal Government takes the blame.

I wish this protests was against the corrupt leaders in Igbo land, their leaders would be shaken to act.
if most of y'all directed your aggression to your governors during the era of GEJ and OBJ, maybe we won't have a country so messed up but you turned the heat up on the last president who had many battles on so many fronts........now it is convenient for you to "advice" the igbos that if the protest had been directed to their state governments.......how much is the allocation to start with for infrastructural developments?? [s]
Adesege:
Let me quickly state some facts here, I'm not inciting any tribe against each other with this post but I think it will be better I put the records straight on why the Yoruba nation is silent.

The Yoruba nation is made up of intelligent people from all works of life who knows their left from their right.

According to articles on the 1967 civil war, what led to the agitation of Biafra is nothing but greed, lust after power, among others. The igbos want to be at the helm of affairs by all means and cos they were not given the chance, they seek for secession.

Bishop Kukah once said in a public lecture, after he asked a friend who was in the military in the US how coup is plot and I quote "... The idea of a coup could come from an individual who might then sell it to another very close friend. It is hard to know whom to trust so you have to know how to send out feelers. So, for example, you meet a friend and you ask, how are things? And he says, well, my brother, country hard. You could go on and say something like, how can things be so bad? Will we continue like this? It is really terrible. Then you watch and see or hear his reaction. If he is of the same feeling of frustration, then you know that he is a good material and you go from there ..."

This outrightly explains the agitation of Biafra.

Chimanmada Adichie, in her book Half of a yellow sun, acknowledged that Ojukwu never had the ammunitions to fight the war. The people thought he had everything planned until they saw that he was as clueless as they themselves. No offences meant. Also, the people, having returned from Kano empty handed, gave the little they had to the military and the military encouraged it.

The Yoruba Nation, not out of fear, knows that any secession will lead to war and cos we are peace loving and educated, we ruled secession out. It will cost the Yoruba nation nothing to break outta Nigeria but of what usefulness will that be?

The Northerners, according to what I read, were not happy with the amalgamation of the Northern and Southern protectorates from start. They opposed it, that was why power was handed over to them to woo them.

The South-South also has every reason to stand alone but they are not greedy after all. They own 90% of revenues at the federal level yet they never bragged. The South East are trying to woo them to be part of Biafra yet this people never accepted. They understand history will repeat itself.

Bishop Kukah theory or the military theory on coup is like moving in a circle. The second unseats the first, the third unseats the second, and it just goes on.

God bless Nigeria

I am not suprised. Students of history will know how Nnamdi Azikiwe frustrated the demand of the Niger Delta minorities.
We know how the igbo's vehemently rejected the establishment of the 1958 Sir Henry Willink Commission of Enquiry which was charged with the responsibility of addressing the fears of the Niger Delta minorities.

Pre-indepent Nigeria, the Niger Delta minorities argued that they do not want to be part of an independent Nigeria. They asserted that the treaties the British signed with their fathers does not include lumping them together with other tribes in Nigeria, but Alas ! An igbo man Nnamdi Azikiwe, under the cloak of ''Nationalism'' convinced the British to ignore the demand of the Niger Delta minorities

As far as they are concerened, you are a war booty to them. As far as the Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa are concerened, those of us from the minority tribe are inconsequental in the scheme of things
there was never a time the "Niger Delta" decided that they wanted to leave Nigeria. To the best of my knowledge the ijaw man called boro made the push. And declared the Niger delta republic........most of y'all would come here and start talking about a group of people with distinct languages and cultures and term them "Niger delta" people.......the truth is that most minorities in the Niger delta would either merge with a bigger tribe or stay alone..........the idea of this republic is just illusional sorry to say this because ijaws have always wanted to dominate but the igbos didn't give them the chance in the old eastern region now they believe that they have the chance with a republic of niger delta while trying to whittle down the idea that there are actually igbos in the region so as to be in the fore front.......check all the states that are being occupied by ijaws, there has been disputes and fights the latest being in delta state

The only way biafra can be killed is if there is justice in Nigeria which in the next 5000 years I don't see happening.........those who benefit immensely from the union know the ripple effect of disintegration so they would shed blood not to allow for it to happen. What many people from the SW and North don't understand that the war stories, accounts and marginalisation of the igbo tribe is clearly evident and its only a foo.l that would say that it doesn't exist. Growing up in lagos and having friends from all over, hausas yorubas benins etc I never understood what all these tribal shenanigans meant until I started being politically conscious read books on the foundation of Nigeria and how we came to be as a people. Then I began to see what tribalism was all about........I noticed that most soldiers, ambassadors, heads of civil service where from two regions.........I researched and made my conclusions.......spoils of war.......I repeat, Nigeria is supposed to be a great nation but crab mentality has eaten so deep that we will never achieve 1/10th of our potentials .....since I was born, I haven't seen the igbos in a major civil protest or disobedience excerpt the aba women's riot............even during the fuel subsidy, the se didn't protest because fuel was sold around the amount that was proposed by the fg........these people who are protesting might be miscreants, but they are still igbos.....the masses of the se,my people.....its only someone who wears the shoes that knows where it pinches......since after the war, nothing has been done for the igbos......all what they got was from determination and hard work......if the 2 major tribes go through what the igbos have gone through, I doubt if they would be pleased with Nigeria........those people who are protesting believe if they be on their own, they would be fine........its an ideology........that can't be killed with guns and bombs.......let's not believe force would solve this problem because there are future generations who might not believe in peaceful means........

You see, this is the irony of Biafra. You claim it's the land of freedom, but here you are spewing drivel that seeks to pass injunctions on what faith is valid to be practiced. So biafra is about repressed freedom and selective justice?

If you yourself have issue with islam, fine and good. No one is asking you to convert, or even accept it. But it's duplicitous to insist no one else has the right to practice the religion of their choice within your borders. At least Nigeria guarantees everyone freedom of religion.

No wonder your Biafran quest always fizzles and dies, with the hypocrisy of freedom you project.

Your tirade here is not helping your claims of being hated and persecuted; rather, you're the one exhibiting hatred and bigotry.

I've always said that Biafra is borne out of hate for the northerners and Muslims, and your bone-headed, ill-thought rant is proving me right.

So keep your Viagra. It's an illusion anyway, the vagaries of which very well may lead to your ultimate demise, a premise I suddenly find not so unsavory.

egift:
From all the discussions, protests and chest beating, I have observed some group of persons who have been agitating for the division of Nigeria and the creation of a caveland in the South East Regions of Nigeria.

Here are my top ten categories of persons involved in this agitations:
1. Those That Never Witnessed The Last Civil War
Majority of those protesting now never had the opportunity of living through the 3yrs of the Nigeria-Biafra Civil War. They have no firsthand experience of the hunger, killings, destruction, bombings, rapes, sickness, agony, pains, murder, fear, etc. These category of mostly youths have not tasted peace and war. The people instigating this agitations finds this group easy prey to hoodwink.

2. PDP supporters who cannot get pass the defeat of Jonathan
Ever since the PDP lost the Presidency, the agitation for biafra has taken full swing. The fact is that many of their supporters never imagined that it will be possible defeat a sitting Nigerian President (not when he is backed by the PDP). Therefore the loss was unexpected. Some who can not get pass the defeat, have resorted to taking a jab at President Buhari and supporting anything that will undermining the nation under the leadership of Buhari.

3. Elders who have failed in life and want to use the Agitation to become relevance
I have met old men who have failed in every aspect of life, their only show of strength is exaggerated tales of bravery in the Civil War. This tales have also fueled many youths who are gullible enough to fall for them to believe that just by the wave of the hand, the US, UN and EU will join forces and destroy Nigeria and give them their Caveland. And that killing few innocent Nigerians will give them a Republic.

4. Those who brag with Other People's achievements
These set of agitators have no single achievement to their name, but they will come online and brag about Biafrans who are playing in to leagues, winning awards and being successful. They will use the names of such successful persons to insult others and even fight over nothing. For these ones, getting Biafra will be achieved through bragging and bad-mouthing others people.

5. The Emperor-Wannabes
People like Nnamdi Kanu, BecomeRich (Musiwa), Uwazurike, Dokubo and their supporters are part of the agitation for Biafra with the primary objective of becoming Emperors that will rule over the people.

6. Those Hell Bent on Undermining the current administration
These category agitators for biafra have the misconstrued belief that some people in the North used the destruction from Boko Haram miscreants to undermine the tenure of former President Jonathan, therefore it is a payback time. They are in full support of anything, anyhow that undermines the administration of President Buhari (and if the agitation for Biafra will do, then fine by them).

7. The Brain Washed And Misinformed Fellows
As an Igbo man who strongly believe in a One, United, Stronger Nigeria – I have met many people who present to me some very ridiculous claims on how close they are with having Biafra with USA, Britain, EU, Chinese and Russians battled-ready to support the IPOB. Not long ago (last year), someone told me that Nigeria is expired and UN have already signed off and it is just a matter of days. Last spent over 3 minutes laugh when a friend told me that Jonathan is now the Leader of all the Presidents in Africa and that is why he will go to “every” election that is conduct in Africa till he retires. I had a really good laugh.

8. The Jobless Ones
Everywhere in the world, unemployment is a very serious problem. It is all around us in Nigeria too. Many jobless fellows and under-employed youth in the East have found refuge as agitators to vent their frustrations.

9. The Fearful Fellows
This reluctant supporters, sponsors and financiers of the agitation, fear that speaking against this misguided quest will bring backlash on them, their families and businesses. Most times they keep silent and if pushed, they offer their support to avoid stories that touches the heart. These ones reminds me a documentary I watched about successful immigrants in the Europe and America who send money home to terror groups to avoid engendering their family members.

10. The Anarchists
These group of agitators just love anarchy. These trouble makers don’t even need any motivation before they jump in – arguing, fighting and destroying things as if their lives depend on it.

The governorship and house speaker positions are permanently theirs. They've equally taken over Benue state university and fed. Uni of Agric markudi. The best the idomas can do is to play second fiddle; producing deputies/assistants in every position, as if its an achievement. To a lesser degree, same scenario plays out in Rivers. Here, the ikwerre's hold sway...sometimes i wonder if these states were created for these ethnic groups alone. To all discerning minds, it is easy to see that Nigeria's problem is not corruption but Tribalism. Anyone who thinks he's going to stamp out corruption in this country is wasting his time...the fate of this country will be decided after the last cup of oil has been sold and the proceeds shared. Then you'd all see how unworkable this contraption called "Nigeria" really is.
when you tackle Tribalism, you tackle Religious bigotry.........then you can tackle corruption.........if not, even if God governs Nigeria, he would have to strike everybody with thunder to succeed

Mate, why did these 'victims' WILLFULLY stand in the line of fire and DELIBERATELY confront the armed forces? Did they not get the NA's warning including the last one where they repeated they would ENGAGE (attack/defend against) the secessionists? Please play the video.

Are you also aware that those protesters are a living threat to innocent Nigerians by their confrontation with the Army who are our only earthly defenders?

Those victims committed suicide. Simple.

The story does not add up.

Was the girl forcefully kidnapped, lured or came to the man's house by herself?

Why did'nt the woman report her daughter missing to police only to do so when the man refused to hand her over?

What gave the man the impetus to say no to the woman when she came for the girl?

And why on earth will a girl stay put in man's house and be used every night against her will without shouting for help or trying to escape?

N.B - Am not in anyway supporting rape or kidnap.
I believe u are sherlock Holmes..........

So the essence of the radio is not to give the igbos a voice but to silence the only voice they have? I wonder who gave this advice, and I wonder what audience they plan to capture. For the fact that these names were mentioned as pioneers of the station has killed it before it even started........africans always doing the wrong things......
