This was a really good read although I'm still skeptical on visiting the Northern region. I've been to Katsina in the past, the president's very own village precisely. I enjoyed the place during my one week stay and found the people friendly but kept at the back of my mind it was only a matter of time before anything could happen. I remember very well it started like a joke when we heard religious crises happened in 2010 or so and wiped off healthy nysc serving corpers. What do their families have to show for their struggle now apart from tears and meagre compensation from the then serving administration? Better safe than sorry I'd always say.

Zambia skipper Rainford Kalaba has admitted some of the players were afraid of Nigeria stars who play in the Premier League and this caused their 2-1 loss to the Super Eagles in their World Cup qualifier on Sunday.

Zambia lost for the first time in Ndola with Premier League stars Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho scoring for Nigeria in the first half.

The other Premier League stars in the squad were Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi and Leicester City’s Ahmed Musa.

Kalaba said, “Playing against experienced players based in Europe, some of the guys were scared of playing against them because they always watch them every weekend in the Premier League and when they see them live, it is often difficult for them to concentrate on the game.

“In the first half some of the guys were a bit scared, but in the second half we all saw how things went and we controlled the game.

“There are even more stars in Algeria and Cameroon, so this must be a big lesson for us.”

He added, “We respect Nigeria because they have some good players.

“They have some experienced players in the midfield and they were well organised.”

The exciting forward said the pressure would now be on Chipolopolo to get their qualifying campaign back on track.

“Losing our first game has brought more pressure on us, but we hope to improve,” he admitted.

Well we called the number that was given out. The man on the other end of the phone instructed us to report at 08:00Am today, with our lap top or android device for the screening. Ah, this could be a bank job coming; a perfect chance to remain in the beautiful city of Osogbo after my NYSC. BTW Lagos is where I call home. Chai, God is about turning the disappointment of not passing out with Stream I to blessing! There was nothing positive I didn't think about. Today, I was there one hour before the time set. Fast foward, screening has started. The 1st thing was that, they are the foremost multi-level marketers in Nigeria, blah blah blah (I no no where dey put GNLD, Forever, etc). Next was the shocker: they had a job for us, that has a target of registering 2,000 people's data per week. That we will use our system or android device, and that the working hours is 9am-5pm, mon-fri. I almost fainted when he said the salary was TEN THOUSAND NAIRA monthly! For graduates! Chai! Naija yaff tumble!

when you get a good job, its sweet but any kpako job na nonsense. The funny thing is that the big firms you see today were kpako jobs once upon a time, but skillful and patient guys built it. However, I think the time and skill you will waste in building a kpako firm to multinational is better used building your own if you are really sure you are intelligent.

Advice....go for big firms at once or start ur own kpako firm at once. Anyhow, anyway, you will reach your destination.

I believe you can make use of the internet library, it has all the chemical knowledge you'll need.

Some things you read you understand while some you read you wont understand no matter how hard you try. I read Okeke once and became genius but read Ababio more that 10 times, still could not figure out exactly what its talking about. True...passion goes a long way, but the faster in your direction. However, the struggle continues and one day, it will happen.

The battery aspect will change the whole world...i wish i know chemistry very well and help out on these researchs. I need to invent a light weight battery with heavy currents or a 90% effiecient solar panels.

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Today, parades the suspected kidnappers of CBN governors wife at an ongoing press briefing in Abuja.

Earlier on the wife of the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mrs. Margaret Emefiele was recently kidnapped along the Benin-Asaba highway.

www.metronaija.com gathered that Mrs. Emefiele was waylaid by the gunmen around Ugoneki town along the Benin-Asaba expressway in Edo State.


She and other persons taken were later released following a massive police operation in the area.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Governor Godwin Emefiele expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and security agencies for the rescue of his wife, Mrs Margaret Emefiele.

50 Customers Owe Nigerian Banks N5.23 Trillion

Fifty customers owe commercial banks the sum of N5.23tn, representing 33.4 per cent of the total private sector credit exposure of N15.68tn, the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Financial System Stability report has stated.

The FSS report, posted on the CBN website on Saturday, also showed that the nation’s banks gave N1.537tn loans to oil companies and some state governments in the first six months of the year.

“The total exposure to the top 50 obligors stood at N5.23tn (33.4 per cent) of total industry credit exposure of N15.68tn,” the CBN said in the report.



Although the report did not give the identities of the 50 big bank debtors, it indicated that non-performing loans in the period under review grew by 158 per cent from N649.63bn at end-December 2015, to N1.678tn at end -June 2016.

The NPL ratio rose to 11.7 per cent from 5.3 per cent, thus exceeding the prudential limit of 5.0 per cent, it stated.

It also said that as of June ending 2016, loans to oil and gas sector by the banking sector had hit N4.5tn, representing 28.77 per cent of the total industry loan.

The CBN noted that the development did not augur well for the industry well-being.

The 81-page FSS report stated in part, “Credit exposure to the dominant sectors is as follows: 28.77 per cent to oil and gas sector; 12.95 per cent to manufacturing; 8.84 per cent to governments; and 8.69 per cent to general commerce.

“Credit risk is expected to trend higher into the second half of 2016 owing to increased loan impairments resulting from the depreciation of the naira, inability of obligors to service foreign currency-denominated loans, as well as bank exposures to the oil and gas sector.”

A total of N1.204tn loan was given to the oil and gas while N333bn was given some state governments within the six-month period.

The report stated, “At end-June 2016, loans to the oil and gas sector constituted 28.77 per cent of the gross loan portfolio of the banking system as credit to that sector grew to N4.511tn, compared with N3.307tn at end-December 2015. Loans to state governments rose to N1,386.61bn from N1,053.97bn at end-December 2015, as declining revenues continued to constrain payment of salary by some states, funding of key services and execution of developmental projects.

“This was despite the CBN’s N338bn special intervention scheme designed to refinance states’ debts, as well as a debt restructuring programme introduced by the Debt Management Office, which enabled states to restructure their commercial loans in the preceding period. However, to prevent further financial crisis, a fresh facility of N90bn with a nine per cent interest rate was made available to the states.”

According to the CBN, the biting economic recession has made the market share of the five biggest commercial banks in the country in terms of total assets to decline by 17.3 per cent in six months.

The report read in part, “In terms of size of assets and deposit of banks, the market share of the five largest banks in the first half of 2016 declined to 43.30 and 51.96 per cent, from 60.61 and 52.94 per cent in the second half of 2015, respectively.

“The market share of the largest bank’s deposits and assets stood at 12.84 and 13.52 per cent, respectively in the first half of 2016. The remaining 18 banks had market shares ranging from 0.21 to 6.58 per cent in deposits and 0. 26 to 6. 41 per cent in assets, reflecting low competition in the market.”

Despite the improvement recorded relative to the first half of the year, the structure of the banking industry in the first half of 2016 remained oligopolistic, according to the report.

Economic and financial experts said the challenging economic situation had led to muted low growth in the banking industry with most banks scaling down drastically on their lending activities.

Most banks, they added, were now being preoccupied with how to clean up their books by recovering some of the huge NPLs in their books.

SaharaReporters has learnt from sources at the Department of State Security (DSS) that the overnight raid on the residences of some nine court judges, culminating in the arrest of several of them, came as a result of petitions and decisions of the National Judicial Council (NJC), a statutory body that regulates the activities of judges.


Two DSS sources, however, stated that contrary to earlier reports, the Supreme Court nominee for Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, was not targeted in any of the raids conducted so far. Justice Onnohen reportedly raised alarm to friends when he noticed police action next to his residence as a team of security agents swooped on his next door neighbor, Justice Sylvanus Ngwunta. A press release issued by the DSS indicated that Justice Onnohen is not under investigation, SaharaReporters learnt that the justice's appointment is being fast-tracked to become the CJN in a few days.

However, two Supreme Court justices, John Inyang Okoro and Sylvanus Ngwuta, were arrested in connection with the receipt of bribes from Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State. Justice Ngwuta reportedly traveled to Qatar to receive bribes that he shared with Justice Okoro and other justices in order to help Mr. Wike to win a case at the Supreme Court regarding his disputed election. During a search of his home Justice Ngwunta was in possession of N35,208m, $319,475, 25,890 pounds and 280 Euros

The two judges have been linked with massive properties development in Abuja and Calabar. Justice Okoro is said to be building seven houses simultaneously in Calabar with the help of former Governor Godswill Akpabio and his predecessor Udom Emmanuel in Akwa Ibom state. Justice Okoro had N4.35m, $38,833 and 1000 Euros in his possession during his arrest this morning.

SaharaReporters learned that Governor Wike sprang up late at night to obstruct the arrest of a judge in Port Harcourt. The altercation that ensued created a tense atmosphere between the Governor and security operatives sent to arrest the judge.

One source told SaharaReporters that the judge involved was Justice Abdullahi Liman of the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt. Justice Liman, who is yet to be apprehended reportedly took $2million from Ahmed Makarfi-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party to give a judgement that “overthrew” the faction led by a former governor of Borno state, Ali Modu Sheriff. Governor Wike reportedly transferred the funds in cash to Liman in Ghana, before it was ferried to his home in Port Harcourt. The bribe was to be shared between Lima and the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Auta. When the team arrived the house in Port Harcourt where the loot was kept Gov. Wike mobilized his men to counter the DSS team with the aid of the State’s Police Commissioner. Another source also stated that one Justice Uche Nma Agomoh of the Federal High Court in the same city who was a lackey of the former president of the Nigerian Bar Association, Joseph Daudu was also involved in the scam.

A statement issued by the DSS stated that their team was obstructed by the governor and some thugs with the help of officers from a sister agency, which SaharaReporters learnt is a reference to the Nigerian police.

A security source claimed that Governor Wike left when confronted by police and DSS agents who threatened to shoot him, however, the obstruction aided movement of the cash found on the property. Governor Wike told a different version to the press, claiming he did not know who the judge was.

As early as 11 p.m. Nigerian time, the siege on the homes of judges became public knowledge when DSS agents raided the home of a young judge, Dimgba Nnamdi, who apparently has been a thorn in the side of the DSS lately. When the siege was over, the judge's brother had been brutalized, after which the security agents showed their victim a "search warrant" meant for Justice Okoro. Justice Dimgba Nnamdi was "roughened up" but not immediately arrested. However, a DSS source stated Justice Dimgba is guilty of corruption and had been arrested as well.

Justice Muazu Pindiga, who was arrested in Gombe, was transported to the DSS headquarters in Abuja. A DSS source told our correspondent that Justice Pindiga was cooperating with the DSS regarding his role in a bribery scheme over the Rivers State election tribunal from which he was removed as a judge as Saharareporters exposed him for receiving N100m from Governor Wike.


SaharaReporters learned that Justice Muhammad Ladan Tsamiya, an Appeal Court justice who was recently "compulsorily retired" by the NJC, was not home when a DSS team invaded his home in the Gwarimpa area of Abuja, he reportedly surrendered to the DSS later this morning.


One of the most dramatic scenes took place when the DSS team stormed the home of Justice Adeniyi Ademola. When the team ordered Justice Ademola to come out, the judge claimed he was not home, but his cellphone signal gave him away. He was subsequently arrested with at least N300 million found in different local and foreign currencies in his bedroom. Specifically the same of N54m cash, $171,779. 4,400 Euros, 1,010 Rupees, and 80 pounds was found in his residence.


A different team also arrested Justice Kabiru Auta in Kano.

One DSS source told our reporter that the raids were meant to be carried out by joint DSS and the Nigerian police teams, adding that the police bungled some of the raids by apparently tipping off their targets.

Several security agents stated that the raids took place following independent investigations that were triggered by petitions submitted to the NJC against some of the judges. According to one of the operatives, none of the nine judges targeted haven't spent their salaries in the last two years.

One source revealed that the raids were originally planned for last week, but had to be postponed for "strategic reasons."

A statement issued by the DSS stated that the agency had recovered large sums of foreign and local currencies. The DSS gave a breakdown of the recovered funds as follows:

SUMMARY OF RECOVERED MONEY

1. NAIRA - N93,558,000.00

2. DOLLARS - $530,087

3. POUNDS - £25,970

4. EURO - €5,680

Other foreign currencies were also recovered. The funds were recovered from just three of the arrested judges.

The DSS revealed that its operatives also seized banking as well as real estate documents from several judges.

The agency is making preparations to arraign the arrested justices in court early next week.
