I know what osu is. Upfront, I tell you that for me , personally, it doesn't count for anything. Her long great grand parents might have been something but it should long cease to exists. But we are in a clash of cultures where we are not sure whether to follow western civilization and ways of life or our traditional ways. Often its a mix, and a bad one. Risk angle: Everything depends on your risk appetite. Marriage is filled with so many uncertainties and unknowns -whether you(she) could bear children, and even when they come, whether they would be healthy and not sickly, the marriage bringing economic prosperity and not hardship, etc. So what people do is to, as much as possible, eliminate upfront, as many of the factors that could pose a danger later. Like genotype matching, avoiding partners with family history of incurable diseases or affliction, etc., etc. But in truth, that only provides assurance and guarantees nothing. Who says a daughter of a non-diabetic or non-asthmatic won't develop such in life? So what people do for the most part is take a plunge and pray for the best. That's why marriage is sometimes referred to as a leap of faith. In your situation, if you love your woman, you must be ready to take the plunge with her and have the conviction to weather the storm. Tell your people, that the first in line and the one to me most affected by any calamity occasioned by her 'status' is you and all you require is their blessing and you are determined to face whatever comes. With Christianity and modern technology man, you have little to worry about. I am even sure and totally convinced that nothing will follow it. In fact God will bless you for obeying his word and not discriminate. Definitely, some will some of your people will continue to discourage you, fearing that it could come and affect them/the entire family. -Lie. Just hold your head high and face your life. Finally, when you marry her, you have less traffic of unwanted relatives trooping to your home as is with our culture. |
Mimiko's is a very lengthy route to a simple matter. If he and others insisted on the 'right' process, why did they later accept the 'flawed' procedure. By doing so, they all made the outcome to be binding on all of them. QED. If they had booted out the Amaechi-prescribed process of the election and not joined in the voting, the matter would have been different today. Mimiko should admit it. Their camp goofed! Big time. The issue now is no more of the integrity of their internal electoral process by the integrity of the participants who initially agreed to a process only to kick against the outcome of the process by turning around to cry foul on a process they all admitted themselves to. Please someone help tell excellency Mimiko that the later is a worse evil. They were confident of the strength in their perceived majority but the truth is that, behind the cloak of secrecy, because not all in their camp believed in their cause, some turned true to their feelings. If you go deep down the hearts of some of the members of the camp, not all are happy about the undercurrents leading to the pressure to boot out Amaechi, but none will say it due to fear, perhaps of a presidency, which is becoming desperate in its actions and comments by the day. No many want to confront a mad bull, right cause or not. So for Governor Mimiko, why did you agree to vote, with all the flaws in the process, only to begin to speak long grammar postmortem? Did Amaechi also force you and the others to vote? |
y is this not on front page |

No pretenses guys, the country is at WAR! RIP to the dead. May God receive the souls of any non-combatants affected. Collateral damage can only be reduced not completely eradicated in any war. For those who think war is garnished rice, please think twice. You can ask Easterners what they faced in the 30month old briafran war |
homesteady: If he wants to stay!! Then he should stop his anti-party doingsWhat anti-part doing? When did association of all governors in Nigeria become a sole PDP affair? Lets know Amaechi's anti-party doings please. I am a member of the party and the constitution never said suspend a member before finding him culpable. Please help your ogas at the rock to stop the dancing naked in market place. Tnx |
TRUTHTELA: It's a common mafia rule that most FORESIGHTED men adhere to this rule: DO NOT OUTSHINE YOUR MASTER!!!We need to learn from this. First, lets be exact; "DO NOT OUTSHINE YOUR MASTER" does not originate from the mafia even if they and most FORESIGHTED men adhere to it. It is Rule #1 in The 48 Laws of Power (2000) the first book by American author Robert Greene. But the poster having sought shelter from attack, will not be attacked. Rather I will want upcoming Nigerians to learn and stand firm to correct many of the anomalies that currently bedevil our society. So, Mr Truthfela, I will respectfully assert that you are wrong in your conclusion above about who holds the ace. Reason: Nigeria is a federation of States! S.2(2) of the Constitution state "Nigeria shall be a Federation consisting of States and a Federal Capital Territory" A federation in lay man's language is coming together, union, if you like, association. From Wikipedia, a federation is a political entity characterized by a union of partially self-governing states or regions united by a central (federal) government. In a federation, the self-governing status of the component states, as well as the division of power between them and the central government, are typically constitutionally entrenched...[/b].enough So, it is States first. No States, no federation. The head of the central government (here, the President) is not in any way superior or more "powerful" than the heads of the federating States, supposedly. In fact, it is the other way round. By the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria, this holds very true. For instance, S.212(1), technically it is the Governors that can grant what we know as pardon or amnesty against crimes committed against State as contained in the criminal code. The President has no such powers by the constitution because he can only pardon those convicted of offenses created by act of the national assembly. Secondly, land administration; the President only controls the FCT land. All other lands in Nigeria are firmly and 100% vested in the Governors by the Land Use Act (which is in fact appended to the constitution S.315(5). And guess what? The President know this! Why is he losing sleep over NGF with only 36 members instead of NURTW with over a million members? Because he knows that in a federation, it is the Governors that hold the ace. For the elction of the President, the Governors have a whole lot of say. Little wonder, since President Obasanjo/Atiku who wher ushered in by the magnanimity of the military government at the time, all subsequent administrations (president and Deputies) are ex-Governors. But Mr President's men are going about it the 'agbero' way. So why do Nigerian presidents look larger than life? 2 simple reasons: a) Resource control: fundamentally, our constitution allows the centre to accumulate our commonwealth (federation account) and dictate what is handed out to States. Who dunnit? Subject for another debate, but that's the way it is. States have no control of any resource beneath the ground at any dept beyond where the tap root of a coco-yam planted on the surface (almost). So even most water wells and bore holes belong to federal government! States have been told point blank that they could not have Ministries in charge of solid minerals b) We are primitive: As evidenced by poorly developed institutions. Today, it is more about the personalities not about the institutions they head and represent. But how long can we remain like this? Very long! yes, very long if we all resign ourselves to the status quo and take it as the norm like the poster's position. Stretching it, if the sitting Nigeria's president got the ACE,not a governor, what then becomes of the fate of common people in the streets. So the poster's President should feel free, like some rulers in very distant past in some parts of the nation, to point to your wife (or mother or sister) and say, bring her here! A a small road side tent will be made of the circle of his guards and ..... ![]() But we can shorten the evil's tail and days if we begin to insist on what is proper. The Federal government has been severally successfully challenged on the handling of federation funds and the supreme court has been helping to straighten things out, one at a time. In time, we will get there, I strongly believe. The current Mr. President's over-reported meddling with the Governors forum is not helping his case and those who truly love him, of which I am one, should make him know that, instead of prodding him on. Even if he silences Amaechi, what does that count for? Timipere Sylva was booted out, and so what? Has any tangible problem been solved by that? The battle is even greater today. Let Mr. President battle and conquer our epileptic power and his name will be forever engrave in gold! Let him battle escalating y=unemployment and he will be re-elected plus a constitutional change to allow him more productive terms in Office! The attack valve is open please. |

[quote author=Dospix The mourners had gathered to bury two of the policemen killed last week Tuesday by Ombatse cult members in Nassarawa state. Anarchy in our land![/quote]So it was all a village affair? Wasn't the Police authority there as part of normal burial cceremony accordedd officers that died in the line of duty? Or they got overpowered again? This deserves full official enquiry |

http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/05/tithing-bananas/ Tithing Bananas 0 May 5, 2013 | 12:46 am Article of Faith By Femi Aribisala According to the scriptures, money is not acceptable as tithe; it has to be food-crops or livestock. As far as many pastors are concerned, the most important scripture of all is not to be found in the word of Jesus. Neither is it even in the New Testament. That scripture says: “‘Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and try me now in this,’ says the LORD of hosts, ‘If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.’” (Malachi 3:10). This scripture is drummed repeatedly into Christians on Sundays. However, the only time Jesus mentioned tithing in scripture, he pointed out that it was not a weighty matter of the law. (Matthew 23:23). Hebrews says people only receive tithes “according to the law.” (Hebrews 7:5). It then insists tithing (and everything else under the law) has been annulled: “The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless.” (Hebrews 7:18-19). Nevertheless, mercenary pastors continue to insist on the payment of tithes. Latter-day Pharisees Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for keeping part instead of the whole law. (Matthew 23:23). That is what tithe-collecting pastors do today. If we insist our congregants must pay tithes, we must also insist that they keep the rest of the law. James says: “Whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.” (James 2:10). Therefore, if we insist on tithing, we should also refrain from eating pork. We should stone adulterers, execute homosexuals, kill Sabbath violators and restore blood-sacrifices. Tithe-collecting pastors counter this by maintaining the payment of tithes pre-dated the law. Here Abraham is cited as the cardinal example of someone who paid tithes before the promulgation of the Law of Moses, as did Jacob, his grandson. However, such arguments are disingenuous. Before the law, tithing was at best an example but not a commandment. Moreover, pastors fail to mention that Abraham only tithed once in his lifetime. When he did, he did not even tithe his own money: he tithed the spoils of war. He gave ten percent of the plunder he took when he rescued Lot to Melchisedec, king of Salem. But then he did not even keep the rest but returned it (all ninety percent) to the king of Sodom. For his part, Jacob also tithed only once. He did this in a “let’s make a deal” arrangement he offered to God: “Jacob made a vow, saying, ‘If God will be with me, and keep me in this way that I am going, and give me bread to eat and clothing to put on, so that I come back to my father’s house in peace, then the LORD shall be my God. And this stone which I have set as a pillar shall be God’s house, and of all that you give me I will surely give a tenth to you.’” (Genesis 28:20-22). This kind of deal about accepting God only under certain self-serving conditions should certainly not be a term of reference for any serious believer. Lies upon lies The first lie pastors tell Christians is what some have referred to as “the eleventh commandment:” “Thou shalt pay thy tithes to thy local church.” But the bible says no such thing. The storehouse of Malachi was not a church. It was a place where food was kept. Pastors hide from church-members the fact that money was not acceptable as tithe. The tithe was a tenth of the seed and fruit of the land and of the animals which ate of the land. (Leviticus 27:30-32). That is why God says: “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be FOOD in my house.” (Malachi 3:10). He does not say “that there may be MONEY in my house.” The food was used to feed the Levites, the poor, widows, orphans and strangers. Pastors also conveniently fail to teach the biblical tithe. The principles of tithing were not laid down by Malachi. They were laid down by Moses. The study of Moses’ guidelines quickly reveals that the biblical tithe has no application whatsoever to Christians and is mischievously violated by tithe-collecting pastors today. According to the Law of Moses, the tithe was divided into three allocations. The first year, it was given to the Levite. The second year, it was given to widows, orphans and the poor. The third year, it was eaten in the company of the faithful before the Lord as thanksgiving for his faithfulness. (Deuteronomy 14:22-28). In the seventh year, there was no planting and no reaping and therefore no tithing. So the next time your pastor asks you to pay tithe, ask him about the seventh-year reprieve. Also ask him if you can give your tithe to the orphanage, or bring it as food items to be eaten in church. Believe me; he will not agree with you because it is your money he is after. Inapplicability of tithes Tithing was only applicable to Jews and to the land of Israel. When large populations of Jews lived in Babylon, Ammon, Moab, Egypt, and Syria, these lands became tithe-able lands. However, tithes were not acceptable from strictly Gentile lands. So you need to ask your pastor how come he is collecting tithes in Nigeria. Servants or slaves who worked on the land did not tithe because the land did not belong to them. Since only agricultural and animal resources were included, a fisherman gave no tithe of his fisheries. Neither did a miner or a carpenter pay tithes, nor anyone from the various professional occupations. So if you are not a farmer or a keeper of livestock, tell your 419 pastor tithing is biblically inapplicable to you. Moreover, the only people authorised to receive tithes were the Levites. (Hebrews 7:5). So if your Pastor is a “tithe-collector,” ask him if he happens to be a Jew. Remind him that, even though a Jew, Jesus could not receive the tithe because he was not from the tribe of Levi but from that of Judah. The trick, of course, is for pastors today to claim we are “Levites.” If your pastor is one such dissembler, ask him if he lives as a Levite. Remind him that Levites had no land and did not have private property. Ask him also how he knows he is from the tribe of Levi, which happens to be one of the lost tribes of Israel. Point out to him that even Jewish rabbis don’t claim to be Levites today because all Jewish genealogical records were lost with the destruction of the Temple in AD 70, ensuring that it is no longer possible to ascertain the true identity of Levites. Therefore, if Jews no longer tithe because the Levites are a lost tribe, how can Christian pastors collect tithes when we are not even Jewish, how much more Levites? If Jewish rabbis, whose terms of reference remain the Old Testament no longer collect tithes, then pastors who insist Christians are under a New Testament have no business doing so. The conclusion then is inescapable. Every pastor who collects tithes is nothing but “a thief and a robber.” (John 10:1). |
This may all be politics, but it does throw light into the larger issue of misplacement of priorities by our States. From available records, only few States in the country are financially viable, able to run their affairs from own revenue. Yet, many governments find the flimsiest of excuses to engage in frivolities while their citizens wallow in poverty and high unemployment. The Rivers government should have retained (and will soon have no otion but to retain) the services of a private charter aircraft and save itself the brouhaha plus save tonnes of money for Rivers people. The fixed monthly salary of the pilot(s) and crew, plus daily parking charges for the plane (whether it flies or not) will by far outweigh the charge for flights from a private charter operate; even before considering the procurement value of the craft and maintenance! Try this: average cost of chartered aircraft at N1.5m. How often (out of 365days in a year) does the governor fly (not equal to times he travels because not all locations he travels to have airports)? 30%, or 40% or 50% (I doubt), gives N164.25m, N219m and N273.75m. Now compare these to running a full-fledged airline in government house or a Ministry of Flights(or Aircrafts) At the current rate, I won’t be surprised if soon, local government heads begin to buy planes too. All in a country where a much higher percentage of it’s population are quoted to be living below $2 per day. Big shame! |
Go to Appeal Court. Court of public opinion nor public condemnation will not help in such high wire high power situation. wish u luck |
