A Chinese city has banned schools from holding Christmas events, state media reported on Thursday, highlighting official suspicions about the increasingly popular festival because of its foreign origins. China’s Christian population, currently estimated at around 60 million, is rapidly growing and Christmas is increasingly marked in the country ruled by the officially atheist Communist Party. But the government education bureau in Wenzhou, an eastern Chinese coastal city sometimes called “China’s Jerusalem” because of its large Christian population, banned schools from holding “Christmas-related” events, the Global Times reported. Local officials “hope schools can pay more attention to Chinese traditional festivals instead of Western traditions”, said the tabloid, which has close ties to the Communist Party. Interest in Christmas has grown in China as an occasion for shopping, with marketeers using everything from saxophones and Smurfs to steam trains to get consumers to open their wallets. But authorities in Wenzhou this year launched a demolition campaign aimed at local churches, with more than 400 forced to remove visible crosses and some completely destroyed. The ban came as a university in central China required students to watch a documentary about Chinese sage Confucius instead of celebrating Christmas. “Be good sons and daughters of your country, stand against kitsch Western holidays,” a banner on the campus of Northwest University in the ancient city of Xi’an said, according to photographs posted online. “Resist the expansion of Western culture,” read another. A university spokesman told the state-run Guangming Daily that the school appealed to the students to pay more attention to Chinese traditional culture, and not to “idolise foreign festivals”. The newspaper added: “Each year Christmas brings debate, with one side saying that the festival can bring a lot of new fun things, and another side saying that we should not fawn over foreign things and overlook Chinese traditional festivals.” |

Two friends have engaged each other in a bloody street fight over a girl at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, southwest Nigeria. The fight resulted in the stabbing of Saheed Hamza, with a broken bottle by his friend, Christopher Ugbeni. Ugbeni, a resident of Catholic Mission Street, Lagos Island, and hails from Edo State, has been arrested by the police from the Lion Building Division, Campbell Street. He said he engaged Hamza in a fight because he was trying to snatch his girlfriend. Hamza was rushed to the General Hospital, Lagos Island, after he was stabbed. He is currently receiving treatment. Police investigation revealed that trouble broke out between the two friends when Ugbeni reportedly saw Hamza making love advances to his girlfriend. Ugbeni was said to have challenged his friend and that it degenerated into a fight during which the suspect broke a bottle and stabbed Hamza in the stomach. During interrogation following his arrest, Ugbeni confessed to the crime and said he had warned his friend on several occasions to desist from making love advances to his girlfriend, but he would not listen. “I stabbed my friend to teach him a lesson and stop him from romancing with my girlfriend,” Ugbeni allegedly told the police. After investigation by Corporal Afu Victor, the suspect was charged before a Tinubu magistrate’s court, Lagos on a two-count charge of stabbing and attempted murder. The offence, the prosecutor, Inspector I. Okeke said, contravened sections 228(1) and 243 of the criminal laws of Lagos State, 2011. The accused pleaded guilty to the charge in the open court and Chief Magistrate Y. R. Pinheiro adjourned the matter till 14 January, 2014 for sentence. |

Security agencies are probing former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s claim that about 1,000 Nigerians have been placed under watch by the Federal Government, as reported in a national newspaper today. The probe, which is being coordinated by the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), may be extended to similar allegations raised by Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai. Besides, members of the Governing Council of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) have started consultations on how to approach the petition sent to the commission by President Goodluck Jonathan. A source said the commission would follow the rules of procedures in treating Jonathan’s petition. All security agencies are involved in the probe of the allegation of training of snipers to deal with 1,000 Nigerians on a watch-list, it was learnt. The security agencies were reportedly mandated to go deep into the veracity or otherwise of the allegations. A top source disclosed with the publication saying: “I can confirm that investigation of security issues in Obasanjo’s letter, especially the training of snipers, is ongoing. |
Post-sex euphoria quickly turned into a painful trip to A&E when an American woman had an climax that lasted for over THREE HOURS. Doctors initially thought that Liz was going into labour when she arrived at the emergency room in Seattle – only to discover that she was short of breath due to a seemingly never-ending climax. Liz and her partner Eric discuss the ordeal – which is accompanied by a dramatic reconstruction – as part of TLC’s new series s*x Sent me to the ER. She said: “I started hopping up and down to see if that would do anything, but there was nothing we could come up with that would stop me from orgasming.” The couple also reportedly attempted to subdue the intensity of the climax with some wine – before deciding after two hours that it was time to go to the emergency room. It took another hour of painful pleasure before the climax eventually died down, with Liz now being closely monitored by several bemused doctors. Even Eric found himself becoming less smug as the minutes went on. He added: “There were eyes on me and I was still feeling very tense and uptight and uncertain about what was going on and what was going to happen”. The bizarre TLC series also featured last month the story of the 440lb man who hospitalised his girlfriend during his first time having sex |
Governor Sullivan Chime has come under fire from the All Progressives Congress, APC, for stating that the party had no place in Enugu State. Chime had on Saturday during the inauguration of 17 newly elected council chairmen in the state at the Michael Opara Square, equally endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for the 2015 presidential election. “We pledge our total support and loyalty to the PDP and President Jonathan. We support him and his programmes. We wish to assure him that so long as he is in the race for 2015 presidency, he should not bother coming to Enugu State to campaign… We don’t need APC here, so he is sure of our support”, Chime was quoted as saying. But in a statement on Sunday signed by the APC spokesman in the South-East, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, the party wondered the criteria the governor used in endorsing Jonathan even when he was yet to declare interest. “On the endorsement of President Jonathan before he declares, may we ask the governor to mention which project Mr President has executed in Enugu State 3 years down the line, for we regrettably remember the empty promises he made to our good people”, he said. He further averred that “contrary to the self-serving and dictatorial speech of Gov Chime, during the swearing in ceremony of the undemocratically imposed local council chairmen, the APC South East states unequivocally that Enugu State is sick and needs enough dosage of APC post 2015 general elections. “We are at a loss why Gov Chime, a senior lawyer will be celebrating the hand-picking of the 17 local government chairmen and councillors, contrary to the provision of the law and core tenets of democracy, when he deliberately manipulated Dr Emma Eneh led Enugu State Electoral Commission to disqualify APC and APGA candidates with flimsy excuses. “Some of the candidates were disqualified for paying taxes outside Enugu State, as if none of our sons and daughters reside outside the state or do business outside the state”. “Why was Governor Chime afraid to use the election to test the ground before deceiving President Goodluck Jonathan not to bother to campaign at Enugu? Enough of such cheap deception”, the party said. It noted that “We could have used this forum to expose how the Electoral Commission conducted the sham and so called local council election, but for the fact that the matter is before the court and as true democrats, we do not want to be contemptuous of the court. “We need to remind Governor Chime that the good people of Enugu State are keeping records of the billions streaming into Enugu State treasury and so far the job done is not commensurate with funds collected. “We have already queried Governor Chime over the misplaced priority, bogus and untidy manner of the award of new Enugu State Secretariat, a matter receiving due attention at EFCC”, the statement added. |
MAKURDI— ABOUT 65 houses were razed, yesterday, rendering many homeless with others injured as People’s Democratic Party, PDP, supporters clashed in Loko, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State. The latest crisis in Katsina-Ala is coming on the heels of moves by the people of Loko and PDP to recall Mrs Hembadon Amena representing Katsina-Ala West constituency in Benue State House of Assembly over alleged anti-party activities. Vanguard gathered from an eyewitness, who preferred anonymity, that crisis erupted “when a supporter of the embattled lawmaker, Mr. Shiaondo Ukor, who is chairman of Motorcycle Hirers Association at the Daudu unit, allegedly accosted one Teryange, a commercial motorcycle rider and his employee. “Ukor asked him to hand over the keys of his motorbike to him on the ground that he (Teryange) disrespected him by joining forces with some people to unseat Mrs. Amena. “As the two argued to a point of exchanging blows, they attracted the attention of passers-by who joined the fray and the fight escalated.” According to the source, Mr. Ukor was alleged to have moved with his supporters to the home of the youth leader of Ugber Mr. Aondoaseer Ornguze and razed down his house after beating up his family members. The source said: “His action sparked a reprisal attack and further escalation of the fighting and burning down of the houses of notable and vocal members of the party in the area. “The fighting is still on with many persons injured, while over 65 houses have been razed already, as I speak to you.” When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Deputy Superintendent, DSP, Daniel Ezeala, said he had received reports on the razing of thatched houses in the affected area last night, adding that he was still waiting for full details of the crisis. On her part, Mrs. Amena confirmed the story, saying the trouble was caused by those who wanted to recall her for no just cause. She said the matter had been reported to the Police in Katsina-Ala and Makurdi. |
dominique: except if you're a cold blooded animal, i dont see any reason why you should be worried about palmoil solidifying in your system. your insides are warmer than room temperatureeven at body temperature they can still solidify. Imagine the kind of temp. U subject ur g.nut oil that has solidified before they melt |
Any oil that freezes/solidifies at room temperature is not good for the heart and blood vessels. A typical red palm oil will always freeze at room temperature unlike soybean oil and olive oil. Even the groundnut oil also does the same wt red palm oil. Research shows that the palm oil or groundnut oil when present in the blood also tends to freeze and thereby obstructing the flow of blood in the blood vessels. And due to modernization, palm oil produced in industrial scale is even worse because they do not seperate the oil properly from a by-product we call 'oguru' in my dialect (Izhiangbo, Ebonyi state). But the palm oil produced localy is properly seperated from the oguru and therefore has a lower tendency of freezing at room temperature. And from what i have observed Ebonyi state produces the best palm oil in terms of quality (but not quantity) because most of the oil is processed localy. |

lastmessenger: Am a christain and i keep wondering why the so called devil worshippers keep making great advancement in science and technology.I just feel that something is not being done the right way in christainity.the prosperity gospel we preach in churches is the one that emphasizes that if you give money, then you gonna recieve money and get a job and some other similar stuffs.am still waiting for the church that will challenge christains to use their brain to transform the nation through science and technology.Thank u for ur understanding. |
emmyskies: I dont mean we shoudnt grow. I just meant for you guys to forget science and take GOD serious. We can grow in other sectors of the economy. We can grow in technology. Theres nothing bad in it. Its all about the knowledge of man. The major thing I pointed out is the concept behind their progress. Its demonic. They dedicated the project to one of their goddess and its pet. Probably the one that made it possible for the project. Nigeria can grow technologically but not this demonic and goddess-oriented type. But in all these: This world is not our own. We go die live everything at last. Only GOD. Heaven is our home. Where we will leave forever and ever and ever and ever for eternity. GOD bless youHave u nt wondered y u dt worship the said all knowing God keep moving backward and living below poverty line while those u tink they worship a demonic God are always advancing? I put it to u dt if china and other scientificaly advanced nations have folded there hands and wait on an everlasting home called heaven jst like nigerians do, u would probably have died many years from curable diseases. Even the phone u're using to type this may probably have come from these demon worshipers and i wonder y u av nt thrown it away so that ur father in heaven will send u a holy one from the skies. Religion has really dealt with Africans. |
emmyskies: goddess abiThis mentality possessed by by most Africans and Nigerians in particular is why we never develop technologicaly. We prefer to carry the bible and quran around, waste our productive hours in church and mosque and yet we have nothing good to show off as the most religious nation on earth. People are busy using science and technology to make life better but Nigerians are busy carrying a book full of lies. |

@op what do u have to say abt dell inspiron 3521, dual core, 500gb hdd and 4gb Ram? |
Please what is the difference between 3rd generation intel core i3 and dual core processors? |
This essay is long but I implore your indulgence to read through patiently. Since the advent of pentecostal churches, movies and dramas of all sorts have passed our faces in the name of churches and pastors; some we keep mute and overlook, others we grumble silently for fear of being lynched and labelled AN ANTI-CHRIST or UNBELIEVER. But I have out-grown such rhetorics and I can't bear it any longer, I just have to spit it out!! Ever since certain people went to college to study "God", then afterwards, open churches, we've seen and hear all manner of things, and one of them is "SPEAKING IN TONGUES"! As a matter of fact it is the trendiest show in new generation churches. The trend has become so habitual you can find people displaying it on the streets in this part of the world and one can mistake them for socially unstable people. As a curious chap, I interrogated one "curly-hair" tongue-speakingbrother, and my question was simple "DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE SPEAKING AND CAN YOU INTERPRETE IT IN ENGLISH?" According to him, "I don't know what I'm speaking, but God does. The Holy Spirit is groaning for me". Yes I know all those bible verses "He that speaketh in an unkown tongue edifies himself", I'm also aware the bible says its a "GIFT OF THE SPIRIT". But my understanding of a Gift is something that is special and not common. But today every, Dapo, Chike and Akpan are speaking in tongues. Why should I blame them when some churches are making it a compulsory course for them to speak, they even have "speaking in tongues classes" for new comers. In the bible, they say the Holy Spirit came upon Peter and the rest of them like a fire and they began speaking in OTHER TONGUES such that people around them were hearing them speak their own dialets e.g. A yoruba man speaking Ijaw and so on. But these days, folks just say whatever enters their mouth and obviously, no Holy Spirit has come upon them like Peter and Co in the bible. Some of them believe they are speaking latin or some kind of heavenly language!!! Please if you don't understand what you're saying is it the person you're speaking to that will understand what you're saying? Because these folks believe God is some kind of interpreting machine that decodes all kinds of gibberish from the mouth. I told the curly-hair brother to write a letter in tongues for me to see, and he just walked away, probably he discussed me with his fellow "tonguers" as an UNBELIEVER. I know they will say "God uses the foolish things of this world to confine the wise". If speaking gibberish means speaking in tongues, then all the men and women in the psychiatric hospital and streets are communicating with GOD, period!! |

Turn to GOD, so we can together inherit our portion in GOD'S kingdom prepared for us. Righteousness and holiness in christ will take us there. JESUS CHRIST is the saviour. GOD bless you all.
