youghs: What we need to do is increase tax collection(cos many default) and to also raise tax..
The major misconception about raising tax rate is that it increases price of goods..Yes tax may increase prices of goods but that's only temporary( I used "may" because they are alot of interventions that can be done to make sure prices of goods don't increase when tax rate rise e.g Reducing fuel price to about N40 per litre through subsidies during the time frame and alot of other subsidies that can be implemented)
If we leave our tax/revenue to gdp at that low level, cost of living will only keep increasing step by step like it has always been all this while..
But if we raise the tax, it may lead to sharp increase in cost of living for a while but in the long run the needed roads would be constructed, the needed rail, port, power, security, finance and so many more would be done. Things like these would reduce the cost of production which will bring about increase in investment from foreign and local businesses(Nigeria is an attractive country for business cos of our large population) thereby leading to reduction in price of goods, increase in employment, standard of living and so on..
We can't continue to deceive ourselves by relying on resources, it used to be okay for us but not anymore More revenue can be raised by more efficient tax collection and ENDING subsidies. No need to increase taxes and no need for subsidies. According to NBS, Nigeria spent about 10trillion naira on subsidies on petroleum products. Add in the fact that the 55 million litres NNPC claims we consume is an inflated figure to get extra loot from fake importation and subsidy. If other factors like government wastage(by buying unnecessary items(eg new SUVs every year) and stupidly inflated items in budgets (like the agency that bought 1,000 laptops for 800 million naira(incidences like this abound) or the crazily silly and inflated allowances for government officials(like the security votes to governors and ministers or the newspaper allowances (some departments get up to 150k in allowances per month) can be tackled, you will be shocked at how much extra income can be squeezed out of this country. Tax increase should be a last resort. If only companies like PROFORCE can be given CONCRETE SUPPLY ORDERS for a large number of MRAPS and/or armoured vehicles, they can expand their production capacity and deliver up to 150 per year(they will also pay tax on these and we have more money to spend). Its an annoying vicious cycle.... Terrorists attack us and we lose good men and women, we complain their activities affect the economy and need money to buy equipment to fight them, we get the money and politicians waste money on unnecessary things then complain that there is no money to fight the terrorists, we send in troops with minimal equipment to fight them.... The cycle repeats itself |

Toju200: As u can see from the pics these are like permanent FOBs so the need for the HESCOSs unlike ours it's not troops don't stay there for up to two weeks they are always moving... The use even for the two weeks will save the troops a lot of stress. Even if they are not stacked one on top another, the minimum elevation and protection will go a long way. These bags also don't discourage the use by mobile units as they can be quickly filled and emptied and can be carried around with less stress. Another fact I love about them is that when filled, they offer better projectile resistance and protection than your regular brick wall, all you need is BAG, SAND(and/or ROCKS) and people/equipment to fill them. In fact trenches can still be dug and the sand evacuated from the trenches used to fill the bags. |

On this issue, don't be expect to get ANY accurate reports on the number of casualties. Both countries would want to exaggerate the number of casualties suffered by the other while reducing their own. In a conflict between two countries, expect this ‘we killed more of you than you did of us' kind of reports.
I hope the shit cools down..,. The madness in the world already is enough. We don't need more |

Money meant to get us new T90s was quoted for 3rd grade used T72s, where are the T72 now most out of action. Well those t72 did a nice job but the chiefs like Amosun still in prison now and Dasuki gate should be shot in a firing square for all to see! My point with my comment is.... There are people that just argue for arguing sake and not to make a point. Kabe had made his point and unfortunately, has been sidelined by one of those needless arguments. rka2: Why you go just see price then divide by 3 as the cost of the drones . See below.
"AAI Corp., doing business as Textron Systems, Hunt Valley, Maryland, was awarded a $25,610,000 firm-fixed-price contract for three Aerosonde Mk4.7 systems, initial spare parts, logistics support, new equipment training and two field service representatives. Bids were solicited via the internet with one received. Work will be performed in Nigeria, with an estimated completion date of Sept. 30, 2021. Fiscal 2019 overseas contingency operations, defense funds in the amount of $25,610,000 were obligated at the time of the award. U.S. Army Contracting Command, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, is the contracting activity (W911QY-20-C-0025)." correction taken but... No be so we been dey calculate the Super Tucano costs for here? Sha, American companies mostly include maintenance, spares, training etc into their weapons systems sales.. According to the article, Nigeria's 3 drones will cost $25 million while Uganda's 2 drones will cost $20 million. The drone is said to have an endurance of 12 hours with full payload.

The Kind of confidence some people have when saying rubbish is quite impressive.
Please indulge me.... Say a country(in this instance, A COVERT MISSILE WIELDING country like someone's version of Nigeria) decides to poison the river Nile(let's say everyone forgets its a crime against humanity), what happens to rivers Niger and Benue? Are they poison proof too?
I am amazed someone actually thinks a group of sane individuals (the navy top shots) would go ahead and buy LOTS OF missiles(off budget), and store them somewhere(where nobody has EVER heard of) while waiting for the payment for the ships/boats that are expected to wield the missiles to be put in the budget.

kabe1: The WING LONG II is in the same class as the Anka-S.
All military vehicles in the same class have similar costs.
The Anka-S is the most recent drone foreign military sale, that's what you would use to gauge.
Until you know the total cost of the Saudi deals you cannot use to compare. But you that ALSO doesnt know the cost of the Saudi deal is sure the figures quoted are wrong because someone else paid higher for another drone of the same class? |

kabe1: Mr Komekn, please endeavour to conduct proper research before posting off comments.
It's something you hardly do.
According to your wild claims, 50 million dollars would be enough to purchase 50 armed UAVs.
I mean, so why is Tunisia paying $240 million for 6 units of Anka-S drones from Turkey.
I am using Turkey-Tunisia UCAV deal as it is the most recent foreign military sale of UAVs today.
Anka-S is the serial production variant of Anka, shown here, which is a medium-altitude, long-endurance UAV. (Turkish Aerospace Industries) ANKARA, Turkey — Tunisia has awarded a contract to Turkish Aerospace Industries for the supply of six Anka-S drones, three ground control stations and an unspecified level of technology transfer.
Turkish procurement officials said TAI had been awaiting a deal with the government there for more than a year to sell its Anka-S drone. Industry sources said the contract is worth $240 million.
https://www.defensenews.com/unmanned/2020/03/16/turkeys-tai-sells-six-anka-s-drones-to-tunisia/
https://www.armyrecognition.com/march_2020_news_defense_global_security_army_industry/tunisia_to_purchase_turkish-made_anka-s_unmanned_aerial_vehicles.html
https://www.google.com/amp/s/ahvalnews.com/turkey-drones/tunisia-purchase-six-anka-s-drones-turkeys-tai%3famp
In essence Nigeria purchased 12 Super Tucano for 329 million dollars, 496 million dollars when you add infrastructure, training of 100 personnel, ammunition and ISR capabilities.
https://www.defense.gov/Newsroom/Contracts/Contract/Article/1700404/
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.channelstv.com/2018/04/26/496m-aircraft-purchase-senators-call-for-buharis-impeachment/amp/
Tunisia purchased 6 units of Anka-s from Turkey for 240 million dollars including GCS, training and ammunition.
Yet this clown wants us to believe that 50 million dollars would get Nigeria 50 armed drones.
Some of the guys who comment here dream up fantasies and pass it off as facts. Really amusing. The fact that Turkey sold her drones for 40 million dollars doesn't mean all drones have to be 40 million dollars. The WING LOONG II he mentioned were purchased by Saudi Arabia and the UAE for less than 5 million USD a unit. They are low altitude drones that are easily shot down but, giving how cheap they are and their good(not excellent) strike capabilities, countries that the US refused to sell the reaper to, love them. The Chinese have been flooding the market with low cost drones which middle east countries are buying. I don't pray Nigeria goes for the WING LOONG II drone because its performance rating is poor but is it dirt cheap compared to others? Yes. Its also not nice to call everyone with a contrary opinion names.
