BishopMagic: The Current administration has since reverted back to maintaining our reserves only on the dollar being part fulfilment in getting White House support for the APC.
As things stand now, the naira is highly overpriced and what any sensible govt will do is to devalue the naira to meet the primary currency it uses to back it.
But what we have now is politics of naira appreciation and not naira revaluation.
As the chinnese continue devaluing expect the dollar to continue devaluing in response.
The only reason we are not feeling the shock is because:
1. Govt spending is near zero with little or not major contracts being awarded or the current budget passed by the past administrator being followed
2. Thus, manufacturers and businesses are not getting big patronage from the primary spender which happens to be the federal govt.
3. Artificial tightening controls on forex have made forex conversion harder and placed an artificial scarcity or rather inflexibility in converting and spending forex.
This is similar to what one poster posted here as having your parents starve you in order to conserve food in the kitchen. You have only succeeded in not answering the question: how is the Naira appreciation to our disadvantage? Would it make you more prosperous if the Naira is continuously devalued or revalued, as you say? |

BishopMagic: Fool. Nobody is requesting for forex anymore other than fuel importers. The economy is at a standstill and just like any hyper inflation storm, the currency which is like the wind stagnates before spiralling down.
Expect the Naira to crash even further.
If you read the article, you will see where the rise in the naira was attributed to the devaluation of the dollar by the US Feds which is in direct response to the chinnese devaluation of their currency.
All the gains fools like you want to attribute to Buhari are what Jonathan did in terms of infrastructure or flimsy flukes with this clueless administration not doing a damn thing. So what if the dollar is devalued, must it always be the Naira that is devalued? If the Naira is appreciating because the dollar is devalued how is that to our disadvantage? |

Here we go again! 1) GEJ did not perform 2) GEJ was incompetent to rule Nigeria 3) GEJ lack experience to rule Nigeria 4) the leader sets the standard in Nigeria. From the above points of Balarabe Musa, it can be inferred that GEJ set the standard for incompetence, non performance and inexperience for leadership in Nigeria. Let's give him a round of applause |

Don't blame the network for barring your line it's an NCC directive against all lines that were improperly registered or with incomplete registration details.
Etisalat started about two weeks ago, though they compensate some affected subscribers with bonus recharge.
I blame the NCC for the target of activated lines on the network it gave the telcos (I stand corrected) that prompted all the promo sim activation craze, resulting in irregular registration. |
Politics › Re: Economy can’t sustain subsidy – Kachikwu, NNPC boss: Vanguard by menxer: 5:56pm On Aug 21, 2015 |
So you have succeeded in bursting my middle class bubble with this analysis of yours? You intend to solve the bolded with subsidy? Why should we be talking of buying refined petroleum products at international market when we are the one selling crude? You forgot to analyze how the poor masses will "suffer" if our refineries are working at full capacity, with newer ones coming on stream. hedonistic: Don't sit in your middle class bubble and imagine that all is well with the world. Many Nigerians would be further impoverished if the fuel subsidy regime is discontinued, for the simple reason that removal of subsidy will lead to higher and higher pump prices. This in turn would lead to higher prices of goods and services, including higher transport fares and higher price of foodstuff and associated items.
With the already weak purchasing power of the poor Nigerian masses and struggling lower end of the middle class (who collectively make up the majority), such pressures will entrench poverty across the land.
We know that structures and processes don't work normally in Nigeria, so all the beautiful talk about allowing 'market forces' to regulate the price of fuel is nonsense. This same argument was advanced for diesel. Since subsidy was discontinued for diesel many years ago, how come the price has always been increasing endlessly, regardless of the price of crude in the international markets? This same thing would happen with PMS, because the oil marketers in Nigeria operate as a cartel with the sole aim of colluding to rip off consumers. There will never be anything like a free market or competitive pricing in the marketing and sale of PMS if subsidies are removed. The masses would suffer for it. |

zicoraads: It's not happening, at least any time soon. When the APC and it's hirelings went to town to protest and fight the then government of President GEJ, they didn't know that it was detrimental to the country?
Nigerians cannot afford to buy petroleum products if it is sold without subsidies. The government should instead focus on improving the standard of living of Nigerians by creating jobs, paying stipends to those that are jobless, feeding school children and so on. Only then should they even think of removing subsidy. I object to the bolded. Does it mean everything in Nigeria as at now is subsidized? Why are call rates and data rates getting cheaper, is it because of subsidy? |

lampardizik: Hello Nairalanders so yesterday i learnt that the correct response to "how do you do?" is "how do you do". it made no sense to me because i thought the logical response would be "fine" or "good" or stuffs like that, that is why i have brought this to NL to clarify. So professors in the house, let us know which is the correct response to "How Do You Do?". "fine" or "how do you do" It depends on who is asking or where you are. The response you cited is the standard British/American English, but in standard Naija English, it's different. It can be anything from "I dey tight , I am doing great, am good, just fine, I gallant, I am fine, not bad as u thought/think", etc. |
Romance › Re: Sex Will Make Your Relationship Stronger Only At The Appropriate Time by menxer: 7:05am On Aug 21, 2015 |
what a post! why can't any post about sex and relationships be unbiased? "the beast in men" why are men always taking the blame/insults, is sex not a natural urge in women? why do we deceive ourselves that every man or woman will marry in this life? premarital sex can't be a sin when there is no intention to marry or be married. As you said, if couple that abstained from premarital sex with each other still lose the thirst for sex (with each other), what happens then? Polygamous relationship is an inherent trait in man right from the days of Papa Abraham and we assume otherwise only based on our religious filter. |
