Your Excellencies,
POSER is a South East region-wide network of people with shared ideals, values and committed to authentic Igbo renaissance, socio-economic, political and infrastructural development of the Igbo homeland.

As an Igbocentric multi-stakeholder Coalition, addressing socio-economic and political issues confronting the Igbo nation, POSER has a strong membership strength across the South East states.

Your Excellencies, following the global outbreak of the novel Corona Virus (Covid-19) Nigeria's leadership responded swiftly announcing drastic measures including territorial lock downs to curtail and combat the spread of the pandemic.

State governments (including South East States) across the country responded with equal statewide measures aimed at combating community spread of the pandemic in their respective States.

Part of the measures by states and the federal government is the restrictions on people's movement. These restrictions became necessary since it is believed that the virus is spread through droplets from infected persons which when it comes in contact with a person, such person becomes infected.

Your Excellencies, it is on record that at this time, security agents have killed more people in South Eastern Nigeria than in any other region of the country with the pretentious excuse of enforcing the lockdown against the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

To Your Excellencies, it is now obvious that overzealous security agents consistently brutalize and kill young Ndi Igbo at the flimsiest of excuses under the watch of Igbo leaders.

For a long time Ndi Igbo have concentrated their animosity against external elements while ignoring leadership in Igbo land.

We believe that it is misplaced aggression for Ndi Igbo to continue to fight external forces while our political and traditional leaders constitute a more dangerous danger to Ndi Igbo.

As Governors of South Eastern states, the security and welfare of Ndi Igbo ought to and should be the topmost priority to Your Excellencies.

In strong terms we decry Your Excellencies silence in the face of constant and consistent brutalization and killing of your people.

Governors from other federating units of Nigeria will never condone this kind of regular killings of their citizens, and we ask, "why do Your Excellencies accept and condone this bloodletting in our homeland?".

Why this conspiracy of silence against your own people?

Your Excellencies, this open letter is to assure you that Ndi Igbo are no longer at ease.

TAKE NOTE, Ndi Igbo are redirecting their animosities away from their perceived external detractors to its political leaders, who have showed signs of being more dangerous to the continued existence of our people.

Our question is simple, why do Your Excellencies allow Ndi Igbo to bear the brunt of overzealous security agents?

South West Governors do not allow their people to suffer such degrading and inhuman treatment from the Nigerian state.

It is sad to note that even with the widespread activities of hoodlums, harassing and robbing people in Ogun and Lagos areas, we have not heard of trigger-happy security operatives shooting and killing people in the South West.

We view this as a failure of leadership in the South East and must be addressed immediately.

The new thinking is Igbocentric leadership.
We can no longer stand aside and watch while leadership in Igbo land fails Ndi Igbo.

By this open letter we strongly urge Your Excellencies:

1. To take proactive steps to arrest the decline in the security and safety of Ndi Igbo across South East States.

2. To take proactive steps to ward off the excessive use of maximum force and indiscriminate arrest of Igbo youths in our Homeland.

3. Take immediate steps in mobilizing South East resources to address infrastructural deficiencies across Igboland

4. To begin immediate mobilization of Ndi Igbo towards the actualization of the Igbo Homeland Project.

While we pledge our continued support to the political leadership across Igboland, however we will not hesitate to withdraw such support if Your Excellencies fail, neglect or utterly refuse to protect our people.

Signed:
Amb. Obuesi Phillips - Global Leader, People Of South East Region (POSER)

Politics › Re: Abba Kyari : The Man They Told Us To Hate. by MetaPhysical: 4:24pm On Apr 20, 2020
For about five years, the man Abba Kyari was a scapegoat for almost all the shortcomings of this administration. Rightfully so, because to whom much is given, much should be expected. Many tagged him the head of the imaginary cabal, while some even named him the de facto President.

Even when Abba Kyari tested positive for the dreadedCOVID-19, some persons even rejoiced. Hence, it was not strange that some even expressed joy at his demise.

There is an important disclaimer.

I do not subscribe to the idea that a dead person should not be judged or criticised. They should. But as in life, fair hearing is important. If you want to judge the dead, judge them based on facts.

How did we arrive at the conclusion that Abba Kyari was indeed a terrible human being? We rely on some people to interpret things for us. After all, some people believed or still believe that COVID-19 is not killing people, but that 5G is killing people.

A section of the social media, Twitter in particular, made it a mission to indict, crucify and judge the man. No doubt, Abba Kyari occupied an office of unlimited influence.
He amassed such a huge influence that it threatened the First Lady who shares the same bed with President Buhari; in za Oza room.

Over those five years, even his friends kept quiet while the mob was baying for his blood; like the crowd at the famous gladiator arena in ancient Rome.
But with his demise, many are now sending sweet condolence messages; talking about the human aspect of the man we all thought was a Frankenstein monster.

Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (NEITI), Waziri Adio; was one of those who dropped a moving tweet on Kyari.

“When my mum died earlier this year, the second person to come to the house same day to condole me; (after @Olusegunverdict) was Mallam Abba Kyari. Deeply human. Deeply cerebral. (And) Deeply loyal to his principal and his country, not the caricature widely sold. May God grant him rest.”

He added: “There was clearly a well-oiled machine to always tar him. I and others urged him to always clear the air, if only for posterity. He always resisted, stubbornly insisting that it’s better to bother about the verdict of conscience and of God
.”

If these words had come like six months ago from Waziri Adio; who has a considerable track record within the media/civil societies, more justice would have been done to the man Kyari.

Even higher in its strangeness was a tweet from Feyi Fawehinmi, one of the harshest critics of the deceased Kyari.
One of the people that created the monster image of Kyari the Hitler.
Feyi writes from the personal Twitter handle: @DoubleEph.

Buhari and Kyari

Here is a tweet thread from Fawehinmi on Abba Kyari, the same man he spent years criticising.

‘‘The death of Abba Kyari greatly saddens me. He was one of the Nigerian government officials I abused the most here. Until one fine day last December.

‘‘I was driving when a call came in.

“Hello, is that Feyi?”

‘‘Yes.’’

“This is Abba Kyari. I’ll like to meet you and show you I’m not a monster.”

‘‘About a week later, I drove down to Cambridge to meet him.
I took 2 books for him and he also brought 2 books for me.
We spent close to 2 hours talking about everything in Nigeria from Buhari to 2nd Niger Bridge.

‘‘I assumed it would be like the usual Nigerian big men you meet and never hear from once they return to Nigeria. But we continued chatting daily and even when he landed in Abuja; he sent a message from the airport saying we should keep in touch.

‘‘Since then we’ve chatted very regularly until the last 2 weeks when his illness took a turn for the worse. Sometimes light capitalism vs socialism banter. Sometimes more serious stuff.

‘‘This is not an image washing exercise – many people dislike him strongly. (I was one of them too not long ago).

‘‘But hearing the news of his death has left me deeply deeply sad. And I pray that God grants his soul eternal rest and comfort his family.”

There is a simple lesson from this.

Those people with large followers on social media could be extremely dangerous if they want to. They create narratives to sway public opinion. But they are friends with those same people they are criticising.

Even Senator Sheu Sani has something similar to say about the man.

“The President has lost a trusted & loyal friend.
A man who took the bullets of his master with smiles, calmness & silence. We knew his cap & his colors but never his mind or his own side of his story.
He will be missed as a Punchman or a punch.”

The truth remains.

We will not be able to judge Abba Kyari appropriately, because those people who told us he was wicked; later exchanged books with him. However, they conveniently forgot to tell us they had a change of heart until his death.

Japan is offering sex workers financial aid. But they say it's not enough to survive the coronavirus pandemic.

By Jessie Yeung, Junko Ogura and Will Ripley, CNN
Updated 2 hours ago Apr 20, 2020
(CNN) -

Mika is worried. As a sex worker in Japan, she used to see three or four clients a day -- then the coronavirus pandemic hit. Now, with people staying home and avoiding close contact, she's out of clients and out of money.

With no savings or other sources of income, Mika says she is living off borrowed money. She has tried to find other jobs, but nobody's hiring in the middle of an economic crisis. At this rate, she might not be able to pay rent or afford basic necessities, let alone pay off the debt she has recently taken on.

"I'm worried if I will have a place to live or if I can find a job to get money to live," she said, using a pseudonym to protect her privacy. "I worry about (my health) of course, but now I worry more about how to survive."

Sex workers across Japan have been hit hard by closures and restrictions due to the pandemic. The entire country is under a state of emergency, with many businesses ordered to shutter and people advised not to go out. There are now at least 10,797 cases nationwide and 236 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.

To soften the economic blow, the central government has launched a massive stimulus package worth 108 trillion Japanese yen (about $989 billion). After some controversy, sex workers are eligible to apply for aid, under certain conditions -- a move some activists have hailed as a sign of progress for an industry that has long suffered social stigma.

But for many sex workers, the package offers little reassurance -- and its rules for eligibility seem opaque and restrictive. Some aren't sure how to apply for benefits without effectively outing themselves.
"(The government) haven't clearly said they will help everybody," Mika said. "There are many people unable to eat and survive without working."

The fight for inclusion.

Prostitution, or the exchange of sexual intercourse for money, is criminalized in Japan -- but other types of sex work are legal. The sex industry in Japan generates an estimated $24 billion a year, according to Havocscope, a research organization on the global black market.

Mika works in the legally permitted "delivery health" industry, a euphemism for escort services that stop short of intercourse. Another popular form of legal sex work is "fashion health," which offers services like MouthAction in massage parlors.

When the Japanese government started putting together the relief package, it excluded those legally in the adult entertainment and sex industries -- drawing criticism from activists and opposition members, who called the exclusion "occupational discrimination."
"Do not exclude sex workers from receiving support money. We want sex workers and their children to be protected, like other workers and their children," said Japanese advocacy organization Sex Work And Sexual Health (SWASH) in a letter to the government on April 2.

Officials reversed course, announcing several days later that the proposed plan would include those working legally in the sex industry. Under the drafted guidelines, sex work agencies and employers could receive subsidies for those who have to stay home to care for children during school closures. Sex workers could also apply for a cash handout, available for people who have lost income due to the coronavirus.

However the move continues to polarize public opinion in Japan, where attitudes toward sex and sex work tend to lean socially conservative, with some public figures -- including well-known TV entertainers -- protesting the use of taxpayer money to support sex workers.

In response, the hashtag #NightWorkIsAlsoWork -- "night work" being a euphemism for sex work -- has gone viral on social media.
In one such hashtagged post, an unverified Twitter user said they had only entered the industry to pay off student loans. The tweet, which garnered 9,000 likes and 3,800 retweets, argued that they weren't asking for aid to indulge in luxuries like eating Wagyu beef -- but rather to pay the minimum costs of food, rent and utilities.

"I wonder when this country started ranking people's lives," another tweet read. "Do you abandon single mothers who work in the night business and people who need to work for a living? Stop being prejudiced, stop discriminating based on people's jobs, stop being misogynistic."

Sex workers: "I'm stuck"
Many sex workers also say the government's rules for financial aid and eligibility are confusing and difficult to navigate.
For instance, Mika said, it's not clear whether the handout is only available to those who have lost a certain amount of their income, or who have been dismissed from their jobs entirely, such as losing agents who liaise between the clients and sex workers.

And there's another problem: the plan requires applicants to show proof of their salary and lost income -- a significant challenge for sex workers, who are often paid under the table and whose salaries can fluctuate.
Many sex workers don't report their occupation or full income on their tax return due to the nature of their work and fear of repercussions. Even if their sex work falls within legal bounds, a pervasive sense of shame and stigma means that many are reluctant to identify themselves as sex workers on the record. Not even Mika's family knows what she does for a living.

And this lack of documentation could prevent them from receiving financial aid. The alternative would be to admit omitting information on their taxes, which could lead to its own set of consequences.

"It's not clear how freelance workers whose income has not been reported to the government can get approved for the stimulus," said Mika. "I want to apply for it, but it is not clear how to do it. I'm stuck."

The central government is still drafting the terms of its stimulus package. One proposed amendment would give 100,000 yen (about $928) to each person, instead of 300,000 yen ($2,785) to each household that has lost income -- which could potentially sidestep Mika's problem of documentation.

She must now wait for the government to finalize the package, which will be formally reviewed and deliberated next week, and hope for more clarity.

Sex workers are struggling in other countries too. Sex workers across Asia face similar hardships -- but in some places, governments are stepping in to shoulder the burden.

Bangladesh is one of the few Asian countries where sex work and prostitution are legal, with brothels subject to regulations and licenses.
Last month, the government ordered brothels nationwide to close -- including the Daulatdia brothel, the largest in the country with up to 2,000 sex workers. To lessen the impact, sex workers in the town had their rent suspended and each received 20 to 30 kilograms (about 44 to 66 pounds) of rice, according to local media and police statements.

In Malaysia, where all sex work remains illegal, there are some avenues for aid during the pandemic. For instance, the government has set up monthly allowances and temporary accommodation for the homeless and unemployed, many of whom are sex workers -- but they often have to hide their occupations to get the benefits.
"The government doesn't acknowledge sex workers as work," said Elisha Kor, founder of community aid organization PKKUM.

Perhaps the most positive success story so far has been Thailand.
Though sex work is criminalized in the country, the industry still generates an estimated $4-6 billion a year, or about 5-10% of the nation's GDP, said Liz Hilton, a member of the Thai sex worker advocacy organization Empower Foundation.
Many Thai sex workers found themselves without a workplace or clients after the government shut down bars and other adult entertainment venues last month. They were left scrambling to figure out rent and food costs; on average, each sex worker supports five to eight other people, Hilton said.
That's why it was a huge relief for many to hear that for the first time, they would be eligible for unemployment benefits and assistance grants under the government's pandemic relief package.

"We went through tsunamis and floods and natural disasters and been left out every time," Hilton said. But this time, "sex workers are not being excluded from government help."
The plan is already being rolled out, with some workers reporting they have received the handouts.
It's also a symbolic victory for activists and advocates like Hilton, who campaign for better protections, working conditions and societal acceptance for sex workers.
The fact that they have been included in the package shows "an acceptance that the work we do is work," she said. "If sex work can be recognized in a crisis, it has to be recognized outside of a crisis. There's no going back."

Crime › 47 Killed By Bandits In Katsina, Houses Burnt After Sharing Of Relief Materials by MetaPhysical(op): 2:44am On Apr 20, 2020
We recovered over 70 bodies, say residents
•Security agents move against invasion

Bandits at the weekend invaded six communities in Safana, Dutsinma and Danmusa local government areas of Katsina State and killed scores of residents, including women and children.

The police confirmed the killing of 47 people during the attacks, but the residents said 70 bodies were recovered.

They also said that dozens of their fellow residents were seriously injured while houses were burnt and valuables, including food items and money, were carted away by the bandits.

The attacks were said to have occurred shortly after relief materials were shared to some members of the affected communities to cushion hardship brought about by the deadly coronavirus.

Sources said the bandits, armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed the affected communities in their hundreds, riding on motorcycles in twos and threes.

It was learnt that many residents who refused to give up their relief materials or other belongings were beaten while unlucky ones were shot dead.

According to the source, some of the community members initially resisted the attacks but were overwhelmed when reinforcement came for the bandits.

He said the general hospitals in the affected council areas had received bodies of those killed and were attending to the injured as some of the community members fled their homes in fear.

Another source told The Guardian that the attacks might be reprisal in nature, coming after some vigilantes locally called Yansakai allegedly stormed some Fulani settlements and drove them away from the area.

He said the communities were worried that the Fulani settlements were attracting bandits living inside the forest to the area, and that some of the herdsmen were acting as informants to the criminals.

One of the sources, who gave a breakdown of the bodies of the victims so far recovered, said 30 were recovered in two villages in Danmusa council, 17 at Gurzar Kaka, and 13 in Gurzar Gamji, among others.

But the spokesman for the state police command, Gambo Isah, said 47 persons lost their lives in the attacks.

Isah said, “On 18/04/2020 at about 00:30hrs, bandits in their numbers, armed with AK47 rifles attacked Kurechi village of Danmusa LGA of Katsina State.

“The villagers summoned courage and chased away the hoodlums. Later the villagers started burning down empty corn stalk to keep their animals safe and to keep the hoodlums at bay.

“Subsequently, the situation changed when some Yansakai group (local vigilantes) started setting ablaze some Fulani settlements at Aibon Mangwaro village of Danmusa LGA of Katsina State.

“Consequently, on the same date at about 03:00hrs, there were reports of organized and simultaneous attacks in villages in Danmusa, Dutsenma and Safana by groups of armed bandits.

“At Kurechin Atai village of Danmusa, 14 persons were killled. At Kurechin Giye and Kurechin Dutse villages of Dutsinma LGA of Katsina State, bandits killed four and six persons. And at Makauwachi and Daule villages, the hoodlums killed 19 and four persons.

“Detachments of police, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Air Force, Civil Defence and Directorate of State Services (DSS) have been drafted to the area. Currently, an operation is still ongoing by the combined joint forces,” he added.

Do you have any archeological evidence to backup Oduduwa benin history or benin - relationships with ife not later than 1800 to make it easier......

If you keep on insulting me without giving proves to debunk my claims am sorry your insult wouldn't go anywere....

It just happened that the oba of benin and the Yorubas kings not oba, are playing a political war with this Oduduwa myth, this myth had been in existence amongst the yorubas rulers before the creation of western region, benin coming into the western region was force to identify and have thier own Oduduwa myth just like the other yoruba kings did, the alafin had identify himself as a true Oduduwa son and the ooni as a priest, the muslim yorubas had identify Oduduwa as coming from mecca, the oba if benin had identified Oduduwa as ekaladeran who was banished in the benin old story, this were all done for political superiority.. The oba of benin who was subsequently marginalized by the other
Rulers as not a true yoruba,
The edo had later pulled from the western region This didnt stop the political myth among the oba of benin and the other yoruba rulers,
This new political myth couldn't be checked among the benin people who would have questioned the sudden change of the benin story of ekaladeran to ife and not ughoton as initially was suppose to be... The oba of benin had sovereignty over historian who wanted to write benin history before publication, by that way the truth was not left out uptill date....

This is the politics behind the benin Oduduwa myth, this is not to say there is also no politics behind Oduduwa story amongst the yoruba rulers, if Oduduwa truely exist then it is only indigenous to only the yorubas and is only them that can fiquare out the myth behind Oduduwa existence

Oba is in Yorubaland. Your monarch is Omo Oba....a descendant of Oba!

China has shown to the world, publicly, that they do not owe black Africans any moral obligation. This is a dangerous position.
It means they can also wipe us out without any qualms....whether through solid food, liquid, medicine...or just an experimental test to see if a chemical they intend for enemies will work or not. There is no one out there to question them or punish them. The one that can is US, but in US coronavirus has killed blacks disproportionately and there is no outcry from any world authority. If US could not be questioned, who will question China when it drops a cache of virus on the African skyline...or ship a pigs feed to us, bagged and labeled as Semolina?

Get sense people!

Boycott made in China.
Politics › Abba Kyari: A Lessons Learnt by MetaPhysical(op): 1:04am On Apr 20, 2020
Is there anyone that has not read Buhari's or Onyeama's farewell eulogy to Mallam Kyari?

Onyeama's eulogy is by far more colorful. In it, the Foreign Minister gave details of intimate and close family relationship of him and Kyari. I should call it a brotherhood. What stood out to me is that Buhari and Onyeama both gave kudos to Kyari's sense of loyalty, honesty and support. He will stand by you no matter what, a very principled man.

In death, it is sad to see that neither of the two...or those who similarly had enjoyed and benefited from Kyari's loyal and firm support, were there to pay last respect. Very painful ending for Kyari, very sad departure to his grave.

Lessons learnt is this, there is no value in human relationship greater that a trusted and loyal friendship. To those who have been your pillar of support you owe honor and respect, even in death. If I were Onyeama or Buhari, I would ask for a personal protective gear to wear so I can be present to lay my brother to rest. Someone....a stranger... in the hospital attended to him and they have not died. A stranger drove the van that brought his corpse to the cemetry and they have not died. The virus will not kill Buhari or Onyeama to be by the graveside to see Kyari go to into grave. That would have been a great honor and respect paid back to the one who sacrificed for them and endured to promote value.

May Mallam Abba Kyari's soul rest in peace, and God soothe the pains in his family and loved ones, Amen!
