Mr. Ephraim Onyeomereneche, the father of 20-year-old late cadet officer of the Nigerian Army, Emmanuel Chidiebere Onyeomereneche, who died at Hotel Royal Damgrete Umuahia, Abia State capital has told ABN TV that his son was poisoned.

Speaking with our correspondent shortly after his burial on Saturday at his hometown, Okwuta Ibeku in Umuahia North LGA Of Abia State, the mourning father of the deceased said his son who died on 9th April 2024 after he was poisoned also hit his head on the wall of the hotel swimming pool, an injury that broke his skull, leading to movement of blood to his brain.

"The autopsy has been conducted on June 29th. It was an open autopsy, and the cause of my late son's death was known and determined. Chidiebere was poisoned, and then hit at the back of the head in the pool that broke his skull. Blood entered his brain and he died", he told our correspondent.

He however said he is seeking justice so that those who had a hand in the death of his son will be brought to book.

According to Onyeomereneche, Abia State Government and the State House of Assembly has not offered the needed cooperation to ensure that the family gets justice.

He noted, "Abia state should be responsible. But I ask for justice, the police, the roles they have been playing has not been the best. They should play better roles. We protested to the government house. We protested to the house of assembly.We also protested at Hotel Royal Damgrete.

"The Abia State House of assembly has abandoned the matter. The state pretended to see no evil, heard no evil, and are doing no good."

He also called on the management of the hotel to take steps to ensure that death of guests that has become a recurrent decimal is brought to an end.

"For Hotel Royal Damgrete, let the death of people discontinued from that hotel. Chidiebere is gone alright, but at the same time, let it not continue.

"It looks like on average of every 4 months or thereabouts, 1 person dies in that hotel. Less than that? I don't know. Whatever he's doing that causes those deaths. Let it stop.

"I'll ask God to fight for me. But for Chidiebere, let him not rest until justice is done. It's only justice, Nothing else. Just justice. However it will come, let justice be done."

The emotional father expressed sadness that despite the four years his spent in the defence academy, he was not alive to join his colleagues to mark the graduation ceremony.

"His mates have graduated last month. On the day they were graduating, some of them were sending messages to me. Already, they have graduated. The personnel parade will be next year, but actually, I've been suffering for the 4 years without a certificate. It's not the best.

"It's not the best. It's painful. From the days of President Jonathan, the Boko Haram, nothing happened. We survived it, all the stoppings and all the bullets. Only for him to be in the house", he stressed.

The former governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu’s claim that his administration increased the life expectancy of Abians by addressing the maternal mortality rate has been verified by the Federal Government.

In his health series, Okezie Ikpeazu said his administration solved mother and child death issues. He said when he took office in 2015, the mother and child death rate was high.

Ikpeazu said his administration, through environmental health officers and other health professionals, educated the citizens on how to prevent disease.

He said his administration built 750 affordable healthcare centers across remote areas of the state. He said his administration also ensured sufficient funding for the healthcare centers.

Okezie said the infrastructure ensured accessible and quality healthcare services for all citizens of the state, especially pregnant women.

“When health challenges arose, we sought effective solutions to ensure prompt and proper treatment. We recognized that continued health problems required ongoing efforts and responsiveness. Childbirth and infant mortality were critical areas of focus. We educated pregnant women on utilizing the healthcare facilities we provided.

“The government established over 750 affordable healthcare centers across the state, each managed by community leaders, healthcare professionals, and supported by government funding. This infrastructure ensured accessible and quality healthcare services for all, especially pregnant women,” Ikpeazu said.


The former governor of Abia State said aside provision of free health to pregnant mothers, his administration ensured healthcare services for women and infants were free of charge.

He added that in the first few months of childbirth, his administration took care of mothers and newborn children.

“We made antenatal care readily available and took measures to protect both pregnant women and their unborn children. All healthcare services for women and infants were provided free of charge throughout the state,” he said.

Ikpeazu’s statement was corroborated by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, on Wednesday.

At the commissioning of the Sustainable Development Multipurpose Hospital, built by the federal government, in Ugwunagbo, Abia State, Mrs Adejoke disclosed that since 2020, the maternal and child mortality rate of the state decreased.

The SSA to Tinubu on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) said according to SDGs data, the state maternal mortality rate has declined from “1047 to 531 since 2020 and currently stands at 136″.

Hon. Obi Aguocha, the House of Representatives member representing Ikwuano, Umuahia North, and Umuahia South Federal Constituency, recently visited former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, at his country home in Daura, Katsina State.

The purpose of Aguocha's visit to President Buhari was to seek his intervention and elicit his support for political dialogue and constructive engagement that could engender a resolution of the salient issues surrounding the continued detention and trial of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and that could lead to his release on pragmatic national reconciliation considerations.

The Governor of Abia State Dr. Alex Otti, has vowed to put an end to the recent spate of attacks on the security agencies in the state by yet-to-be-identified gunmen.

Governor Otti made the vow on Saturday, June 29, during a visit to the families of two killed police officers in their various homes and two wounded officers in the hospitals where they are currently receiving treatment after being attacked in the evening of Friday, June 28th, at a security checkpoint around Opobo Junction, Obingwa Local Government Area of the State.

Governor Otti awarded scholarships up to University level to all the children of the two slain officers and assured them that Abia State Government would be supporting the families for their upkeep, a statement made available to ABN TV by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ctz. Ukoha Njoku Ukoha says.

Addressing the press, Governor Otti said, "First of all, we want to commiserate with the families, the police authorities, the commissioner of police in the State, and then, of course, the Inspector General of police for this very sad thing that happened in the evening of yesterday".

"This is a time to reassure the security agencies that the State is behind them. And, then also reassure Abia citizens that the State is equal to the task and we are not going to let this go away without identifying and bringing to book all those who are directly or remotely involved".

"It's very unfortunate. We felt after all we have done including rounding up some of the people that were involved in the last attack, this would not happen again. For it to happen so quickly, we have also met and we have decided to change strategy".

Governor Otti urged the people not to panic but to go about their normal businesses, assuring them that the State would do everything to protect them.

The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti has expressed sadness over the killing of two police officers at Opobo junction, Aba, on the evening of Friday, June 28, 2024, by yet-to-be-identified criminals, ABN TV reports.

The Governor condemns the horrible and unprovoked attack, which came almost a month after some innocent soldiers were killed by criminals at Obikabia junction, which is less than a kilometer away from Opobo junction, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma said in a statement.

According to Governor Otti, "Without doubt, these atrocious and reckless violent onslaughts against security agents in the state bear the imprimatur of a well-sponsored act of terror geared towards spreading fear and confusion in the state, to derail the generally acclaimed progress being recorded in the state by the present government. Our message is that severe consequences await all perpetrators and enablers of terror in Abia State".

"Having swung into action and apprehended some of the criminals directly involved in the killing of the five soldiers at Obikabia while the investigation is still ongoing to identify their allies and sponsors, our government will deploy the same energy and resources to ensure that those responsible for this latest killing are brought to justice", the Governor assured.

The Governor wishes to also warn, that his government will within the instruments of the law, bring to bear the full weight of government powers on any person, persons, or organizations hiding under the umbrella of politics or opposition to incite or directly perpetrate violence against innocent citizens of the state.

Moses Maduka, a 29-year-old robotic engineer from Ahuwa Oboro, has made history as the first Nigerian to graduate with a degree in Mechatronics and Robotics from a Russian university, ABN TV reports.

Maduka, who hails from Ikwuano Local Government, Abia State, achieved this feat at the Russia Research State University, Ural, graduating with first-class honors and an impressive grade point average of 4.5 out of 5.0.

Notably, Maduka is also the first Igbo indigene to study Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering, paving the way for future generations.

His achievement is a testament to dedication and hard work, as he completed the four-year course and an additional year of Russian language studies.

About 50 members of the House of Representatives from different parts of Nigeria and Political Parties known as concerned federal lawmakers for Peace and Security in the South East have appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to invoke section 174 of the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria, 1999(as amended) and section 107(1) of administration of criminal justice Act, 2015 for the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from detention to aid the restoration of peace in the South East.

They urged the President to direct the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi SAN to invoke his powers of nolle prosequi under the provisions of Section 174(1) of the Constitution and Section 107(1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 and cause the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from detention and discontinue his trial.

According to the lawmakers, they believe it is long overdue and would be instrumental in opening the door for much-needed conversations surrounding peace restoration and inclusivity as well as addressing the issues that led to the agitations.

They recalled that the President extended this gesture through the office of the Attorney General in the charge involving Omoyele Sowore wherein, he was charged with treasonable felony in Charge No FHC/ABJ CR/235/2019, Sunday Igboho and so on.

The concerned legislators lamented that the South-East is in turmoil and unsafe for various reasons including breakdown of security, downturn of economic activities, families are running away from their homes and businesses are crumbling.

They therefore opined that fixing the challenges in the South-East would go a long way in changing the narrative and showcase his commitment to upholding the principle of Rule of Law, Justice and Fairness, which are the bedrock of our democracy.

They also opined that it would also set a precedent for addressing issues through dialogue rather than prolonged political cum judicial persecution and pave the way for peace initiatives, economic revitalization and a renewed sense of belonging among the citizens of the southeast.

Expressing optimism on a positive response from the President, the concerned lawmakers added that this will enhance President Tinubu's administration’s legacy as one that prioritizes national unity, peace and progress.

The letter read in part, "Your Excellency, We are concerned Members of the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with a strong belief and trust that the RENEWED HOPE agenda of His Excellency and the various positive reforms would be seen and felt by all. It is at the backdrop of the foregoing that we the undersigned hereby beseech Your Excellency to direct the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi SAN to invoke his powers of nolle prosequi under the provisions of Section 174(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as Amended) and Section 107(1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 and cause the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from detention and discontinue his trial which we collectively believe is long overdue and would be instrumental in opening the door for much-needed conversations surrounding peace reformation and inclusivity as well as addressing the issues that led to the agitations, especially at this time Nigeria is going through several Constitutional reforms.

It would encourage stakeholders from the Southeast to engage more actively in the national discussions on the renewed hope agenda thereby promoting inclusivity and addressing long-standing grievances. This we belief will also help in dismantling the apparatus of violence and restiveness that has plagued the region, allowing for a focus on economic growth and development. Also, . is coming at a time the nation-state is under enormous pressures, including but not limited to unemployment, insecurity, hunger and poverty, thereby deescalating tension from all sides.

"Moreso, we as key actors in the renewed hope agenda of Your Excellency are not unmindful of the fact that Your Excellency has extended this gesture through the office of the Attorney General in the charge involving Omoyele Sowore wherein, he was charged with treasonable felony in Charge No FHC/ABJ CR/235/2019, Sunday Igboho, etc. All these recorded tremendous successes especially the crisis within the NorthCentral, North-Eastern, and South-South regions, not forgetting peace efforts in the Niger-Delta region which have helped in so many ways. The establishment of the North East Development Commission, Ministry of the Niger-Delta, Niger-Delta Development Commission, Presidential Amnesty, Various Host Community Laws, etc were all commitments to show good faith to the plight of the people as well as resolving regional conflicts.

"It is therefore our conviction that fixing the challenges in the South-East would go a long way in changing the narrative and showcase your commitment to upholding the principle of Rule of Law , Justice and Fairness, which are the bedrock of our democracy. It would also set a precedent for addressing issues through dialogue rather than prolonged political cum judicial persecution and brass show of executive lawlessness. We, therefore implore your excellency to adopt this approach and save the south-east and pave way for a national conversation to restore, safeguard and better the resources and economic activities in the south-east. The Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti says his administration has completed the reconstruction of 90 roads at different stages of dilapidation when he assumed office.

Speaking on Friday during his monthly media chat, tagged “Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians“, the state Chief Executive said: “Our Ministry of Works did all the 90 roads by direct labour, and some of them fit into our Zero Pothole Policy.

“We have reconstructed and rebuilt and inaugurated 16 roads.

“We have also worked on another 16 roads at the moment and the total length of the 16 roads is about 165 kilometers running through the different senatorial districts of the state.”


The governor said that the State Government had awarded the “long abandoned and very difficult Ohanku Road”.

He described the road as very strategic, leading to various settlements in Aba.

He further said that the rigid pavement technology would be applied in fixing it.

“For those who have visited the area, I am sure that you would confirm that work has started on the road, so also a few other roads in Aba.

“We are very strategic about roads because we believe very strongly that access is key to a thriving economy.

“We have a plan to touch every road in every Local Government in the next 12 months.

“At the moment, we are compiling a list of the strategic roads that we will take on as we go into our second year,” he said.

Otti said that plans were underway to secure virement from the 2024 budget for road construction, because “it appears that we are running faster than our budget on roads”.

He said that this would enable the government to have enough money to work on more roads and give access to different communities in the state.

“The most important thing is that we are moving in the right direction,” he said.

"Even my own appointment is not permanent. In the next 3 years, the mandate you gave me will be over, 1 year is gone. And I need to apply again. Right?

Former Abia State Governor and the senator representing Abia North, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, revealed that he had a productive meeting with the current Governor, Alex Otti, at the latter's residence in Nvosi, Ngwa, Abia State, this evening.

The meeting was described as a "brotherly and progressive discussion" regarding state and national affairs.

Otti stated this during Kalu’s courtesy visit to the Governor. In a brief chat with the press, both leaders jointly called on politicians to shelve their political affiliations and champion the development of the state.

While commending the Chairman Senate Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation for his proactive representation, Gov Otti stated that as a sitting Governor, he does not belong to any Political party other than the interest of the masses.

"Any political party that anyone chooses to belong to is his or her choice but once you are from Abia or you live in Abia, you are part and parcel of this Government.

As the case of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), comes up for hearing tomorrow, Barr Aloy Ejimakor has revealed that the British government can retrieve Kanu from Nigeria without a court order.

The people of Uzuakoli in Bende local government area of Abia State have said the community vigilante contrary to "mischievous" online publications is not responsible for the death of two brothers, Oluomachukwu Ugochukwu, (Chairmoo) Ikechukwu Ugochukwu (Pepper), insists that they were killed by a rival cult group.

Addressing newsmen in Umuahia, Abia State capital, the the Secretary General of Uzuakoli Development Association who is also the President-elect, Barr. Prince Chigoziem Okechukwu expressed sadness over the killing of the two brothers in Amankwo Uzuakoli, faulting an online report linking the community vigilante to their demise.

According to him, Amamba youths, where he hails from have no hand in the killing of the duo.

He alleged that there was a cult clash which came after a robbery incident, in which one Ekeleme was fingered to be the mastermind.

He said Ekeleme and his accomplice, Uche were arrested and a group suspected to be members of a cult gang attempted to stop the vigilante operatives who carried out the arrest from handing the suspects over to the police.

The community leader alleged that after insisting in handing over the suspects to the police, the suspected cult members invited their colleagues from neighbouring communities to launch an attack on the vigilante operatives.

Arising from this development, the military was invited to assist in foiling the planned attack, and upon their arrival at the civic centre where they were converging, one of the deceased opened fire on the military, Barr. Okechukwu alleged.

According to him, their journey to their end however started when they placed a blockade during a night vigil of a man and his son who died mysteriously.

The two brorhers were alleged to have dispossessed people of their belongings and inflicting injuries on others.

This however provoked a rival cult group who launched a counter-attack on them, and a fight ensued at that night, causing chaos in the community.

Upon arrival of the vigilantes, they were said to have seen two persons lying helplessly on the floor, which happen to be the two brothers.

The men rushed the victims to the hospital where they were confirmed dead.

Barr. Okechukwu insists that the vigilante operatives are innocent of the death of the men.

He added that the community was worried over the interest of the self acclaimed Biafran prime minister based in FINLAND who has reportedly declared war on the Vigilante in the entire Abia State.

“Indeed the publication of the said Simon Ekpa in the social media leaves us with the feeling and belief that what happened on the 23rd day of May, 2024 at Amankwo Uzuakoli that led to the deaths of the two young men was beyond a Cult Clash but one of those activities of the so-called Non- State Actors of Simon Ekpa”

A soldier serving under the 14 Brigade Headquarters, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s Barrack, Ebem Ohafia in Ohafia local government area of Abia State, attached to the 144 Battalion’s Forward Operation Base (FOB) located at Ngwa High School, Abayi, Osisioma local government area has committed suicide.

ABN TV gathered that the incident happened on Saturday.

The soldier, a senior non-commissioned soldier Command Sergeant Major (CSM) whose name was given as Vitalis, an indigene of Okpuala in Ngor-Okpuala in Imo State, shot himself in front of the FOB gate.

The reason for the decision to take his life in front of the army camp has not been known at the time of filing the report as there was no suicide note.

Sources within security agents in the State said that only a discreet investigation would unravel what could have prompted him to take his life, adding that any attempt to suggest what could have led to his decision to kill himself could be prejudiced to the outcome of the investigation of the leadership of army in the state.

According to sources, until the death of the soldier, there was no reported case of domestic violence or work-related disciplinary action to be against him by army authorities at the Battalion or 14 Brigade Headquarters respectively.

It was gathered that the CSM suddenly disappeared without any trace of his whereabouts for the past two weeks he has remained incommunicado as several attempts to reach him by colleagues and military authorities failed.

He was said to have returned to the army camp and shot himself to the surprise of colleagues.

It was gathered that the deceased would have retired from service in October, leaving his colleagues shocked as to why he chose to take his life.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun has directed the Monitoring Unit to conduct a thorough and high-powered investigation into the suspected murder of one Andrew Ochekwo, ABN TV Reports

This directive comes amid the numerous allegations, arguments, and counter-arguments surrounding the case, which also involves the disappearance of two ladies, Celine and Afiba after their trip to visit the said Ochekwo in Aba, Abia State, for which he was alleged to be responsible.

In a statement by the Force PRO, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi said, “In light of the public interest and the gravity of the allegations, the IGP has deemed it necessary to institute a meticulous investigation into the roles played by the team which carried out the initial investigation in Abia State, and the Force Intelligence Department Intelligence Response Team (IGP-IRT), to unravel the veritable facts of the matter.

“The Monitoring Unit has been given a two-week time frame to complete its investigation and present a comprehensive report.

The lead counsel of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Aloy Ejimakor, on Friday, charged the Presidency, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police, and Nigerians to desist from referring to the group as a terrorist organization.

Ejimakor warned that such a defamatory and prejudicial label attached to IPOB would be “met and countervailed with muscular litigation and other lawful measures.”

He based this warning on a subsisting judgment of a High Court in Nigeria, which ruled that the proscription/declaration of IPOB as a terrorist group by the past administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari is illegal, discriminatory, and unconstitutional.

In a statement he signed and made available to ABN TV, Ejimakor said: “Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s Legal Team is under firm instructions from our client to issue this final warning to all persons and institutions still referring to IPOB as a terrorist organization.

“Henceforth, any further reference to IPOB as a terrorist organization will be met and countervailed with muscular litigation and other lawful measures, regardless of the entity involved. This is because there is a subsisting judgment of a competent High Court in Nigeria (attached herewith) which ruled that IPOB’s proscription/declaration as a terrorist group by Buhari is illegal, discriminatory, and unconstitutional. Compliance with this judgment strictly demands that IPOB should no longer be referred to as a terrorist organization.

“Additionally, those labeling IPOB as a terrorist organization have not provided any evidence that IPOB has engaged in any terrorist activity. This is underscored by the fact that since the so-called proscription of IPOB in 2017, no single alleged IPOB member has been convicted of any terrorist act, despite thousands of arrests, abductions, torture, false flags, and extrajudicial killings levied against its alleged members.

“Accordingly, we at this moment demand that the general public, the Presidency, the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police, and any erring media houses should forthwith cease from attaching such defamatory and prejudicial labels to IPOB led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.”

Felix Olunkwa, the chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) Abia State chapter, has been released by his kidnappers after a ransom payment of N4 million, ABN TV reports.

Olunkwa was kidnapped on May 24, 2024, while driving home from a mechanic's shop in Alaojie ABA, where he had gone to repair his uncle's car. His wife, Dr. Mrs. Olunkwa, raised the alarm after her husband failed to return home, and all attempts to reach him thereafter were unsuccessful.

ABN TV reports that the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N200 million, but negotiations led to a reduction to N4 million, which was paid on Wednesday night, leading to Olunkwa's release.

His release brings an end to a 10-day ordeal.

Emmanuel Nwazue, Abia State Bureau Chief of Afia TV, was attacked and assaulted on Monday by two security guards attached to a First City Monument Bank branch on Akanu Ibiam Way (Bank Road) in Umuahia while monitoring the compliance of the indefinite strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress, ABN TV reports.

Nwazue, who confirmed the attack to our correspondent on Monday said he was interviewing a respondent by the roadside in front of the bank when the two guards approached him to find out why he was speaking with the respondent.

He said that explanations that he is a journalist and had deliberately stepped away from capturing their building fell on deaf ears. He added that since the interview was stopped by the guards he decided to leave, to look for another respondent to make up for the two that he already had.

Nwazue further explained that while he was trying to leave the scene the guards insisted that he must hand over his camera to them, which led to the guards attacking and injuring him.

He said, "I was monitoring the effect and level of compliance to the nationwide strike action embarked on by the Labour unions in the country when I encountered a young man at the FCMB gate, obviously feeling frustrated.

"I approached him and requested to interview him about his experiences with the industrial action, he obliged, and I took him aside towards the tree close to the pedestrian walkway. This was to ensure that my lens did not capture the bank's building—but then, its signboard was within view just as that of another bank was in view—to drive home the environmental picture.

"Midway into the interview with my respondent who said he came from Obowo in Imo State to obtain bank services in Umuahia, a man who later said he was the bank's CSO came with another guy and disrupted the interview.

"My introduction and explanations that we deliberately stepped away from capturing their building fell on deaf ears. So, we couldn't continue with the interview and I decided to leave, to look for another respondent to make up for the two that I already had. These two guys stood in my way! They said I could not leave until I handed them my camera. To me, this was pushing an unfunny joke too far.

"Being mindful of my camera and other attached gadgets dangling from my neck, I made to force my way out, and both of them began to hit me, while I was protecting my camera and barely had any free hand to retaliate, the younger one in a blue security uniform pushed me hardly and I fell on the busy road and nearly got crushed by an oncoming vehicle, except for the quick intervention of some eyewitnesses who helped me out of the way. Of course, with the fall, my camera fell too, and some damage has been recorded.

"My wife, and a few friends who have been conversant with my medical condition in the last two years and came to my help after I had spent over a million naira treating lumber spondylosis, knew what I went through not being able to walk or sit for months.

"Now, having been forcefully pushed down and Ianding on my waist, these guys have reawoken the pains that made me live on very expensive painkillers each day of the week. Aside from that, I now have a dislocated ankle that has made it very difficult for me to walk".

A burial arrangement released on behalf of the family by Mr. Alozie Onyegbule says the late octogenarian will be laid to rest on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at her home town Ameke Ibeku.

Her body will leave Madonna mortuary at about 8 am on 6th June to her home with a brief stop over at Amaokwe Ugba.

She will be committed to Mother Earth after a funeral service by the Master Vessel Ministry (MVN) at Amaeke Primary School Umuahia.

The family prays for the peaceful repose of her soul.

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti has assured that the State Government will work with the security agencies to fish out the criminal elements, who ambushed an army post at Obikabia in Obingwa Local Government Area on Thursday, May 30, and killed five soldiers, ABN TV reports.

Governor Otti thanked the Nigeria Army high command for reducing the tension that had enveloped the State, following the initial panic and apprehension that seized residents as a result of the brutal killings, by not allowing aggrieved soldiers tow the part of reprisal.

The Governor, who was at the headquarters of the 144 Infantry Battalion of the Nigeria Army in Asa, Ukwa West Local Government Area, on Saturday, on a condolence visit to the wives of the slain soldiers, commiserated with the army and announced a package to take care of the families the fallen soldiers left behind, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Kazie Uko said in a statement.

"Let me start by sending out words of sympathy to the Nigeria Army, the Brigade Commander (Brigadier General O. O. Diya) himself, and most importantly the families of the five fallen heroes.

"We, as a government, will continue to condemn this dastardly act, a very irresponsible act committed by criminals, who do not want any good for society.

"It's very sad, but then, it has happened and because it has happened, we will need to move on, but we cannot move on without identifying those who are responsible.

"It's as if General Diya was with me at the last place that we went to, where I had promised that we will smoke out whoever is remotely connected to this killing, whoever they are, wherever they are, wherever they run to.

"We are going to work like we have always done, closely with security agencies, particularly the intelligence unit of the security agencies, to ensure that we leave no stone unturned.

"So, I want to reassure the military high command and the leadership of the military in Abia that we are working together to ensure that we bring those people to book.

"The reason I came here (144 Battalion) today is to sympathise with you; to let you know that I feel your pain and I can understand what you're going through at this time.

"On behalf of the government and people of Abia State, I want to assure you that we are behind you. We know that the military high command will also look after you, but because your husband's died here in Abia, we have adopted you as daughters of Abia and your children as children of Abia.

"We have also put a plan in place to ensure that your children would get automatic scholarship until they finish university. From today, until they graduate, they have become the responsibility of the Abia State Government and we're going to make it a law so that even when I leave somebody else will not stop it," Governor Otti declared.

He thanked General Diya for helping to de-escalate the tension that had built up in and around Obikabia after the killings, especially Aba, which had come under lockdown, by ensuring free movement of innocent residents and not embarking on a reprisal as an army statement had been credited.

"I heard when the army talked about revenge, I think the right expression should have been that we will smoke out the criminals and deal with them.

"It is not even possible for the good Abia people that I lead to be involved in this. We suspect, even though that I don't have proof that they are people that came from outside to destabilise the good things happening in Abia and we will not let them go scot-free.

"I'm happy that you listened to my call that we de-escalate the tension and I really want to thank you. Aba was on lockdown, but as soon as we had our meeting and we spoke, you reduced the tension and de-accelerated the tension. I really want to thank you," the Governor said.

Member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi federal constituency of Abia State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Amobi Ogah has lost his mother, ABN TV reports.

Lady Deborah Ezinne Paulina Ogah died at an undisclosed medical facility in Abia State.

The lawmaker who took to his social media page to announce his mother's death described her passage as translation of a good woman to eternity.

He said, "Our Deborah (Ezinne Paulina Ogah) is gone. A good woman has just translated to eternity.

"Ezinne, your progenitors are great and ready to give you the last salute. In various fields of life, your name is represented. What can we say, but to say thank you Jesus for a life well spent. Adieu Nneoma, Adieu mama"

In a breakthrough in the fight against child trafficking, the Abia State government has successfully rescued two out of three siblings who were kidnapped in Ikwuano Local Government Area of the state.

ABN TV gathered that the children, aged between 4 and 8, were abducted on May 10, 2024, while returning from school.

According to Hon. Osinachi Nwaka, the Mayor of Ikwuano Local Government Area, security operatives traced the children to different locations in Anambra State, with one found in Ekwulobia and the other in Nkpor, Onitsha. Two of the siblings have been reunited with their families, while efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining child.

In a shocking twist, a Reverend Sister has been arrested and is currently in police custody for her involvement in the child trafficking syndicate.

According to Hon. Nwaka, the syndicate operates by charming or bewitching children and selling them to "motherless babies' homes," where they are bought by agents for various purposes, including money rituals, organ harvesting, or adoption by families.

The Mayor made the revelation on Tuesday when members of the Abia State chapter of the Online Media Practitioners of Nigeria (OMPAN) paid him a courtesy visit at the local government headquarters in Ikwuano.

He thanked the governor of the state, the Commissioner of Police, and heads of security agencies in the state for their resilience in ensuring that the children were safely returned to the state and reunited with their families, assured that the remaining one would soon be found and returned to the state as security agencies intensify their search, using available information within their disposal.

The Mayor who believes that there are child-trafficking cartels involved in the kidnapping business in Abia State, solicited the cooperation of OMPAN members and the general public to unravel the masterminds of the illicit trade in order to bring them to book for a safer Abia.

"There are syndicates in every local government that trade on children. It amazes me that a man that bought one of the first boy paid N1.8m to buy life.

"So those syndicates pick the children, by charming or bewitching them and move them to the so-called motherless babies home, and from there, those agents will come and buy them.

"They do this for three reasons; either for money rituals, organ harvesting, or for families that are looking for children." Mayor Nwaka said.

On the part of a reverend sister that played a role in the abduction and illegal sale of the children to the prospective buyers, Nwaka said "Immediately we got the first person, the rest of the information started leaking out, to our surprise, it will amuse you that a Reverend Sister is among this cartel.

"A Reverend Sister is the middle person that distributes the children and collects her cut, she's wearing white and still in state CID till today." Mayor Osinachi said.

He pleaded that OMPAN should use their platforms to sensitize parents not to leave their children unwatched and educate school proprietors or school heads on the danger of sending children out of school due to the failure of their parents to meet up with the payment of tuition fees.

This he warned makes the children to be exposed to danger and fall in the arms of these child traffickers.
