Politics / Abia At 31: We've Delivered 150 Roads In 7 Years — Ikpeazu by Metrix147: 12:11pm On Aug 27, 2022
Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has revealed that his administration has commenced and delivered no fewer than 150 roads in the past seven years since it came on board.

The governor also hinted that at the moment, about 48 road projects across the state are at their advance stages which he hopes will be completed before the end of the administration next year.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWqBmAVvkLM
The governor who spoke in a state-wide broadcast as part of activities marking the 31st anniversary since the creation of the state noted that the projects executed by his administration will serve as monuments to the work his leadership did after the expiration of his tenure.

He said, "We have over 150 roads which our administration has commenced and delivered in the course of our tenure. We are strongly advancing work on another 48 roads and we have a target to finish them before we hand them over to the next administration by May 29, 2023.

"One aspect of these projects I am proud of is their strategic significance and economic importance. A project like the Osisioma Interchange has forever changed the trafficking narrative at that junction.

"Users of that road in recent years will recall how they were often condemned to spend hours in traffic due to the lockdown on the road at peak periods. Today, that episode is in the past as there is now a guaranteed seamless flow of traffic along the axis in addition to the aesthetic uplift of the general environment.

"The adjoining Aba Owerri Road which also hitherto used to be a nightmare has been rebuilt and expanded with relevant road furnishings installed.

"Roads abutting the Aba Owerri road have also been opened up to ventilate the city of Aba.

"We have a solid Abayi Umueze-ABSUTH road built with our signature rigid pavement technology that is a beauty. The perennial swamp along that axis leading to recurrent road failure has been decisively resolved. Kamalu , MCC and Eziukwu roads are all our signature projects. Down Okpu Umuobo road, we are completing and bringing back the old road that leads to Mgboko Obingwa LGA Secretariat from where motorists can join the new Obikabia – Obikabia Road and emerge at the Enugu – Port Harcourt Expressway.

"Our work in other areas of Aba are equally heartwarming for their strategic importance. Osusu, Imaculate, Milverton, Azikiwe, Ukaegbu, Ehere, Umuola, Ebenma, Egege, Opobo, Okigwe, Chima Nwafor Road and other roads we have built around the city are all of immeasurable importance to the continued economic vibrancy of Aba. We have advanced work on the Ngwa Road axis where we have constructed 6 internal roads so far. We are hard at work on Omuma, Obohia, Ohanku, Uratta and Port Harcourt roads which we will complete before we leave office.

"Today, for the first time in over 30 years, our major markets in Aba are now accessible by road. The Eziukwu Cemetery road leading to the popular Cemetery Market which had long been forgotten is now fully rebuilt and back to life and it is easy now to connect that market from Aba-Owerri road seamlessly. Same goes for the Ngwa Road Market and the Ariaria International Market.

Mr. & Mrs. Chibuzor Ikwunze, of Umuagu, Umuhu Ohuhu in Umuahia North local government of Abia State who lost all their four kids in the ill-fated barbecue known as suya and fruit juice meal have marked the first adversary of the ugly incident.

The four children, Kelechi Chibuzor 12, Sunday Chibuzor 10, Oluomachi Chibuzor (f) 8, and Kingsley Chibuzor 3, were among the seven persons who passed on on August 25, 2021, in Umuahia after the meal.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRE-cNtpFU4
They had during the school holidays last visited a family friend, Mr. Sunday Ogbah at Umuaeze in Umuahia North when the sad incident occurred.

Mr. Ogbah himself along with two children also died mysteriously. Only his wife and daughter survived even though they also ate from the said meal.

Speaking with ABN TV on Wednesday in Umuahia, the couple said it has not been easy to cope without the presence of their children.

Mr. Chibuzor Ikwunze said he and his wife have only been coping through the grace of God and prayer from loved ones.

"It's not something that is easy, it is a heavy burden to me, that one day all my four kids I play with, I eat with and do everything with and all of a sudden I realize they have all gone

"If not by God's grace and the love He has towards me and my wife, it is not easy at all. I thank God for his strength and grace which has kept us alive even as we bear our pain. I thank Him for the fortitude, the health, and grace to endure

"It is not by our strength it is by the prayer of God's children upon us that sustained us," he said in Igbo.

The wife, Mrs. Ikwunze also corroborated the husband's position, saying it has been a difficult experience.

The family also expressed dissatisfaction that the result of the autopsy conducted by the state government on the victims to ascertain the actual cause of their death had not been released to them one year later.

They gave the wife of Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu a thumbs down for not showing care as a mother despite several efforts to get her assistance to help Mrs. Ikwunze get over her losses.

Mr. Ikwunze said the family has appealed to the Abia first lady to assist his wife with employment to get her engaged so she could heal from the losses.

He thanked the people of Ohuhu community, especially Chief Obi Aguocha the president general, Hon. Sam Onuigbo, Abia Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji who donated a car and other Interventions to assist the family and other individuals.

He urged parents to pay adequate attention to their children at all times.

Politics / Sen. Kalu Replies Mao, Says He Has Offered Abia North Projects Not Frying Pan by Metrix147: 11:32am On Aug 25, 2022
The verbal missile going on between the sacked Senator of Abia North in the 8th Senate, Mao Ohuabunwa, and the incumbent performing Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is far from over as the later has described the former as a frustrated politician sacked for his poor performance.

Sen. Kalu through the spokesperson of his campaign organisation, Sunny Idika was reacting to the allegation that he abandoned a N5.2billion project attracted by Sen. Ohuabunwa and that Abia North lacks representation since 2019 when Ohuabunwa was voted out of Senate.

Idika said there is no truth in Sen. Ohuabunwa's allegation, maintaining that the only project the former Senator attracted was the distribution of frying pan to his constituents as his constituency project.

He also reminded Ohuabunwa who is the PDP candidate for the district in the 2023 general elections that Sen. Kalu's sterling performance in the Senate has earned him recognition from the Senate press corps as the most performing Senator.

"The former senator who became famous for sharing frying pan as his constituency project in the 8th Senate also said the people of Abia North lacked a representative since he left the senate.

"Ohuabunwa's statement is an insult to the masses' integrity. It is a futile attempt of a frustrated and rejected politician to assess the outstanding three-year performance of Kalu who was adjudged as the best performing Senator in the 9th Senate by the Senate Press Corps for executing massive developmental projects for his Abia North constituents.

'It is ridiculous that Ohuabunwa that was sacked in an overwhelming landslide election in the 2019 General Elections would have the temerity to give an assessment of a Senator that has already been rated the best in the history of the state with over 63 road projects and 40 Bills to his credit," he said.

Idika further added that Ohuabunwa's statement on the Arochukwu-Ohafia road is an admission to the fact that he failed as a legislator for the twelve years he spent at the National Assembly compared to the over 63 road projects executed by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu in just three years.

He said the people of Abia North senatorial district must know that Mao Ohuabunwa did not attract any project to the zone, not to talk of abandoning it, stating that Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu, Chief Whip of the Senate fought for the Arochukwu-Ohafia road which was approved only to be delayed by the crisis rocking the family of the deceased contractor.

"Mao Ohuabunwa, known for dragging projects has just one signature project - which is the frying pan he shared to Abia North women.

"He should be told by those around him that we have gone past the era of sharing frying pan.

Religion / Prelate Akpanika Emerged Through Transparent Process - Presbyterian Church by Metrix147: 2:20pm On Aug 23, 2022
The Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, PCN has expressed dismay over fake news published in some news outlets, alleging that the newly elected Moderator of the General Assembly and Prelate of the Church, Most Rev. Ekpenyong Akpanika faulted the process that brought him to power.

The news publication alluded that Rev. Akpanika spoke in an interview on August 15 where he allegedly said that the electioneering process that elevated him to the top position was "ungodly".

On Tuesday, the Director of Information and Public Relations Affairs of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Rev. Dr. Nnoke Ibe said Rev. Akpanika never granted a press interview on the said date and never made such comment on the said date.

While insisting that the new Moderator of the General Assembly and Prelate of the Church was elected through a free and transparent exercise, the church cautioned that anything Rev. Akpanika has said in the past should not be taken out of context.

According to Rev. Ibe, the Church has over the years maintained a stringent pattern in choosing its leadership which avails delegates the opportunity to vote their choices without any form of inducements.

"We are using this medium to make it clear that the Prelate never granted any press interview nor did he speak to any member of the press on the said date. We, therefore, wonder where that interview was held or where the Prelate might have made that embarrassing statement.

"We further clarify that whatever the Prelate might have said on any other occasion should not be taken out of context. To clear any doubt, we are confident that the process that produces the leadership of the Church has always been adjudged by observers to be stringent, transparent, free, and fair.

"In the processes of her elections, the PCN prayerfully depends on the leadership of the Holy Spirit as members and ministers of proven integrity gather to vote for their choices without inducement or any form of pressure. The election that produced His Eminence Ekpenyong Akpanika followed this same time-tested procedure.

"We want to finally affirm that His Eminence has promised to continue to resist all ungodly influences and practices in the process of choosing leaders for the Church to ensure that it remains pure and guided by righteousness. According to the Prelate, elections must be devoid of ungodly, unchristian, and unethical practices."

The church, therefore, urged the general public to ignore any attempt by anybody to cast slur or aspersion on it or the person of the Prelate and Moderator, Rev. Ekpenyong Akpanika.

The Presbyterian Church assures that it will continue to show the way in conducting transparent and acceptable elections through the grace of God and showing good examples for the nation and the world to follow in the course of choosing leaders.

The new Prelate of the Presbyterian church, Most Rev Dr. Ekpeyong Akpanika was elected in Calabar Cross River state recently at the 25th General Assembly. He succeeds the outgoing Prelate, His Eminence, Nzie Nsi Eke.

Politics / Ohafia Leaders Write Sen. Kalu, Say Unrest Not Targeted At Him (video) by Metrix147: 9:02am On Aug 21, 2022
Leaders of Ohafia Local Government Area have commended the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu for visiting the council area during his ward-to-ward tour.

The leaders in a statement signed by Prince Emma Nwosu on Saturday afternoon said Kalu's visit was a clear demonstration of his love for the people of Ohafia clan.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17D9hVEQgt8
According to the statement, the incident that happened at one of the wards where hoodlums had an armed confrontation with men of the Nigerian Army from the 14 Brigade was not targeted at Kalu, who is the Senator representing Abia North senatorial district.

The leaders commended Senator Orji Uzor Kalu for attracting numerous projects to the clan like the Ebem -Asaga-Ndi Ibe- Amuma-Okon-Amangwu road; and the Ndi Uduma Awoke, Isiugwu, Akanu- Abia Ohafia roads, vowing to give him their maximum support during the 2023 general election.

The statement read in part: "Your Excellency, our distinguished senator, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, Mon, the Chief Whip of the 9th senate, National assembly of the federal Republic of Nigeria.

On behalf of Ohafia community, we wish to express our unreserved gratitude and appreciation to you for finding time inspite of your busy and tight schedule, to embark on the Ward tour of Ohafia clan for the mid-term legislative report designed to interact and render an account of stewardship to the constituents. It was an impactful event which we have never witnessed before since the return of democratic governance in 1999.

"Your Excellency, your visit was a clear demonstration of love and open-mindedness towards the people of Ohafia, and we were indeed honored by your presence.

"Despite the incident that took place in one of the wards, which was not in anyway targeted at you, the Ward tour was a huge success, demonstrated by the carnival-like reception accorded you in all the wards visited. That was a true reflection of the love and acceptance of Ohafia people to you.

Politics / Lokpanta Cattle Market Was Set Up For Community-driven Development - Sen. Kalu by Metrix147: 12:08pm On Aug 15, 2022
Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu says the cattle market in Lokpanta, Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State was set up to drive revenue for the development of the area, ABN TV reports.

Kalu who visited the community during his mid-term ward-to-ward tour explained that the area was supposed to get five percent of the revenue generated from the market for its development.

According to him, he used revenues generated from the Lokpanta cattle market to fight insecurity in Abia State when he was governor.

"I left office as your governor so many years ago. I fought insecurity as your Chief Security Officer from what we raised from the cattle market. The agreement we had while setting up the market was for the state to get 5% and the local government area gets the other 5%.

"It was done with good intentions to drive development in your area. We didn't establish the market to hurt anyone. We brought the market so that money raised from it can be used to build schools, hospitals and water in your area.

"I did it because I love you people. People should stop playing politics with everything including insecurity. Lives should be valued by all because it is only God that can give life."

Crime / Police Arrest Hon. Robinson Uwak For Criminal Blackmail by Metrix147: 6:29pm On Aug 12, 2022
A detachment of the IGP Monitoring Unit has arrested a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Robinson Uwak for alleged criminal defamation of character against the member representing Bende Federal Constituency of Abia State, Rep. Benjamin Kalu, ABN TV reports.

He was arrested following his refusal to honour a series of invitations extended to him by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba. A court of competent jurisdiction, therefore, issued a warrant of arrest against him.

Rep Benjamin Kalu who is also the spokesperson of the House of Representatives had demanded an apology from Uwak over the accusation of infidelity with his (Uwak) wife. He had threatened to approach the court upon failure of Uwak to tender apologies.

Hon Robinson Uwak who was a member of the 7th Assembly of the House of Reps had been accused by his wife Kezia Uwak of domestic violence which led her to leave their matrimonial home as he had alleged to continue abusing her physically regardless of her pleas.

It is noted that in the past few years, Hon. Uwak has lost his first marriage to domestic violence, with a divorce case still pending in court and a newly contracted marriage which like the First broke down on the allegations of domestic violence by the wife which has also been confirmed by the NAPTIP office.

This criminal intention to damage the character of Rep. Benjamin Kalu, led him to publish falsehoods in all the major media houses in Nigeria including electronic media, Facebook, Twitter, and various blogs with the aim to institute a smear campaign on his reputation.

In all these time, Rep. Kalu recalled that his wife Kezia who is also a skilled photographer and a graphic designer had worked with him during his 2018/2019 campaign, while refusing to join issues or respond to any of the media houses, however, took the legal paths of petitioning through his lawyer Prof. Ernest Ojukwu to the Inspector General of Police.

Politics / Abia Poly: ₦450m Not Solution, Flushing Out PDP Is The Way Out - Udensi by Metrix147: 8:43am On Aug 11, 2022
Interpol Systems Consultant and security expert, Sir Chikwe Udensi has said the solution to the de-registration of Abia State Polytechnic in Aba is not the release of N450m by the state government but by flushing out the leadership of PDP in the state.

He said the amount which was released yesterday by the government of the state is not enough to offset the 30 months salary arrears owed to the staff of the tertiary institution.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mrVZgaQnoQ

Speaking on Love FM Umuahia, streamed live on ABN TV at a political and current affairs programme on Wednesday, Udensi a chieftain of APGA said the rot in the Polytechnic is endemic and will not be cleaned just by the release of the said amount by the state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu.

While declining to unravel the outcome of investigation he said he carried out with the assistance of forensic auditors and specialists in education about the accounts of the school, Udensi said the problems of the school have been there since its creation.

According to him, given the opportunity, he would carry out a massive re-organization of the school and ensure that heads will roll, especially those responsible for the rot.

He said there is administrative inconsistencies and incompetence which he said is at the heart of the rot.

“This rot has remained in the Polytechnic for years, from the formation of the Polytechnic.

“One of the things I stumbled on in the process of our due diligence was very disturbing. I don’t know if it’s okay to say it now but in the process of employment, within one period of time, one Rector of the institution employed 105 persons and 95 of these 105 persons are from his clan,” he said.

Politics / Insecurity: I Regret Voting Buhari’s With His Unnoticed Incompetences — Udensi by Metrix147: 4:09pm On Aug 03, 2022
Interpol Systems Consultant and Abia-born security expert, Sir Chikwe Udensi has expressed regret for voting President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 as the country's President.

According to Udensi, Buhari’s underlying incompetences were largely not noticed, stating that his lack of grasp of the country's security issues as well as lack of willpower to take the right decisions is responsible for the growing insecurity in Nigeria.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTirZjJGFwY
Speaking during his weekly appearance on Love FM Umuahia at the programme, Open Parliament which was streamed live on ABN TV and ABN Radio, Udensi an APGA chieftain insists that the leadership and character of the people at the helm of affairs are responsible for the disturbing security challenges across Nigeria.

"The problem we have is that of the ideal ability of our leadership to take proper grasp of the issues.

"I told you the last time, that I personally voted in 2015 for then-candidate of APC, Muhammadu Buhari to be president but I tell you that today, I regret it.

"We probably overrated Buhari. There are so many incompetences we did not notice he had. Buhari is not in charge, it's not only me saying so, even the first lady has said the president is not in charge," he said.

Udensi said individuals who are in charge are not concerned about the security and welfare of citizens, insisting that Buhari has disappointed Nigerians.

He, therefore, called on the federal government to acquire drones and take the war to terrorists instead of waiting for them to attack.

Health / Ikpeazu Agrees To Pay 7 Months From Salaries Owed Our Members — NARD President by Metrix147: 9:18pm On Aug 02, 2022
The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) on Monday said its members in Abia State have been on strike for almost a year over unpaid salaries, ABN TV reports.

President of the association, Dr Dare Ishaya, disclosed this during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

He criticised the Abia State Government for owing resident doctors their salaries as well as failing to implement the Medical Residency Training Act in the state.

Ishaya stated that plans are ongoing with the state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, who has agreed to pay seven months of the salary arrears and also domesticate the Act in the South-Eastern state.

“I want to tell Nigerians that Abia State, our doctors in the Abia State University Teaching Hospital have been on strike for almost a year now,” he said.

“However there has been some little progress being made. At the last meeting the Association of Resident Doctors had with the governor and our representatives, it was agreed that the governor was ready to release seven months of the salary arrears within one week and also domesticate the Medical Residency Training Act within the state.”

Should the state government renege on its part, the NARD President said the body’s National Executive Council will consider everything and take appropriate decisions in the next two weeks.

He commended the Governors Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Babagana Zulum (Borno) and Mai Mala Buni (Yobe) for their investment in the health sectors.

Ishaya also called on other state governors to emulate those that have tried to improve the healthcare delivery system in their domains.

Health / Mortuary Only Functional Section In ABSUTH Under PDP — Abia APGA Chair, Ehiemere by Metrix147: 4:44pm On Aug 02, 2022
The chairman of APGA in Abia State, Rev. Augustine Ehiemere has berated the PDP-led government in Abia State, accusing it of insensitivity and supervising the collapse of the state, ABN TV reports.

Ehiemere spoke on Tuesday in Umuahia at the free medical and surgical scheme organised by Prof. Gregory Ibe, a factional governorship candidate of APGA in the state.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxxtHHwmj3U
He said the loss of accreditation by the Abia State University Teaching Hospital is something to worry about, calling for intervention so that the school will not be hindered from producing medical graduates.

He also said only the mortuary section of the hospital is functioning as a result of neglect by the PDP-led government in the state.

"It is very sad to note that under the very watch of PDP-led Government, the only functional section in ABSUTH now is the mortuary due to lack of attention occasioned by a protracted strike by doctors and other staff who have not received their salaries for over two years.

"Health Centres and General Hospitals across the 17 LGAs lack the basic drugs and equipment. There is total neglect of the vital health sector just like other sectors have equally been abandoned by this Government.

"The resultant effect of all these is avoidable deaths of hapless Abians who cannot afford medicare elsewhere. But for the presence of private health facilities which most often offer their services at throat-cutting prices, patients would have been dying like fowls in Abia as Government has played aloof," he said.

Rev. Ehiemere, therefore, applauded Prof. Ibe for intervening with his free medical outreach for the people of the state.
