Crime"My Parents Did Not Die Natural Deaths" – Kanu Blames Military Invasion (Video) by Metrix147(op): 7:35pm On Feb 17, 2025
Prince Emmanuel Kanu, the younger brother of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has blamed the 2017 military invasion of their family home in Afara Ukwu, Umuahia, for the untimely deaths of their parents.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEXYMNTJewM
He made this statement during an exclusive interview on ABN TV's Political Perspective.

Speaking on the tragic event, Prince Emmanuel Kanu described the military operation, known as Operation Python Dance, as a traumatic incident that not only led to the deaths of many but also inflicted lasting pain on his family.

Recounting the events, Prince Kanu noted that on August 30, 2017, his brother, Nnamdi Kanu, had met with Southeast governors in Enugu to present his demands. The governors assured him that they would take those demands to the presidency in Abuja. However, just two weeks later, their home was stormed by soldiers, leading to the deaths of over 28 people, including some of their relatives.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIaCCAdR5bw
"The invasion remains a very painful memory, from 2017 up until today. My parents suffered deep emotional trauma from that incident, and it eventually led to their deaths," he said.

He recalled how the terrifying experience left their community in fear.

"A little girl who lived opposite my parents' house used to scream each time she saw police officers or heard sirens, crying, 'They are coming again! They are coming again to kill us!' This is the horror that Operation Python Dance left behind," he lamented.

Prince Kanu further revealed that February 14 has become a solemn day for his family and IPOB members worldwide, as it marks the day they buried their parents.

"Every February 14, we honor them. It is heartbreaking that my brother is still in detention and cannot be part of this. My parents did not die natural deaths; they died from the trauma inflicted by Operation Python Dance. Their spirits live on, and we will continue to honor them," he stated.

Prince Emmanuel Kanu emphasized that military action and violent crackdowns will not resolve the agitation for Biafra, calling for dialogue instead.

"The use of bullets and guns will not solve the problem. A peaceful resolution is the only way forward," he stressed.

With Nnamdi Kanu still in detention, the calls for justice and a political solution continue to grow louder across the Southeast and beyond.

CrimeIGP Expands Gender-based Violence Desk Offices To All Police Divisions by Metrix147(op): 3:33pm On Feb 15, 2025
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has approved the expansion of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) desk offices to all police divisions across Nigeria, ABN TV reports.

This move is aimed at strengthening the fight against gender-based violence and ensuring easier access to justice for victims.

Previously limited to zonal and state commands, the GBV desks will now be present at the divisional level, providing prompt and specialized attention to cases of violence against women, children, and other vulnerable individuals. The IGP has also directed the appointment of qualified officers as GBV desk officers in all divisions. These officers will undergo specialized training to enhance their ability to handle GBV cases professionally and sensitively.

In addition to their role in addressing GBV cases, the newly appointed desk officers will oversee the Juvenile, Women, and Children (JWC) section in their respective divisions. This integration is expected to create a more comprehensive and victim-centered approach to handling cases of abuse and violence.

The Nigeria Police Force has reiterated its commitment to protecting the rights of victims and ensuring swift justice delivery. The expansion of the GBV desk offices is seen as a proactive response to the increasing need for specialized interventions in addressing gender-based violence.

Politics"We Need Peace, Not War!" – Sir Udensi Urges Kanu To Adopt Diplomatic Approach by Metrix147(op): 7:30am On Feb 13, 2025
Security expert Sir Chikwe Udensi has once again urged the Nigerian government to adopt a political resolution in the ongoing case of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_sllbqMgCc

Speaking during Open Parliament on Family Love FM Umuahia and ABN TV, Udensi warned that peace in the Southeast would remain elusive as long as Kanu remains in custody.

“We have all these governments, but not peace. Until this injustice continues, we cannot have sustainable peace in the Southeast,” Udensi stated, emphasizing that Kanu’s prolonged detention has significantly contributed to rising insecurity in the region.

He criticized the federal government for failing to address the legal and political complexities surrounding Kanu’s case, arguing that it has led to heightened unrest, including increased incidents of kidnapping and banditry. “By removing Nnamdi Kanu, this legal process is continually agitating and creating massive insecurity in the Southeast. But they have refused to listen. What else are we supposed to take?" he questioned.

Udensi also accused Southeast political leaders, including governors, National Assembly members, and federal appointees, of inaction. He argued that their silence on the matter has only worsened tensions in the region.

The controversy surrounding Kanu’s detention has deepened in recent months, with the judiciary failing to enforce multiple court orders that ruled in favor of his release. While acknowledging Kanu’s militant rhetoric, Udensi expressed concerns that the judiciary’s refusal to follow due process is setting a dangerous precedent.

"I watched the video clips of what happened in court. I am not comfortable, to a very large extent, allowing Nnamdi Kanu to be speaking. He has a way of expressing himself that does not seek fair play, respect, or understanding of the courts. He is militant," Udensi noted.

Despite several legal victories, Kanu remains behind bars, raising concerns about judicial independence and the government's broader stance on the IPOB movement. Udensi, however, insists that a political solution is the best path forward.

"We have written several letters to the executive, judiciary, and legislative arms. We have asked them to take a process outside the courts. Take a political process so that this situation that has endangered lives and property in the Southeast is ameliorated," he stated.

Udensi suggested that while Kanu should be released, his freedom should come with certain conditions to ensure stability in the region. “I am not one of those who believe his release should be unconditional. No. It should be conditional. But he should be released, and then we shall find a way to seek lasting peace in the Southeast,” he explained.

However, Kanu himself has rejected any negotiations for his freedom. Through his lawyers, he has insisted that his agitation for self-determination is a constitutional right, not a crime. "He has urged those clamoring for his release not to beg for it, asserting that his agitation for self-determination is a right and not a crime," Udensi recounted.

Udensi countered Kanu’s approach, arguing that his hardline stance could prolong the crisis. "We need peace, not war! You can’t be wanting peace and proclaiming war at the same time," he cautioned.

CrimeAnambra Govt Seals Shrine Linked To Oke Ite, Yahoo Plus In Okija (Photos+Video) by Metrix147(op): 4:17pm On Feb 12, 2025
The Anambra State Government has sealed a shrine in Umuofor village, Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area, allegedly used by one Ekene Igboegbueze for illicit rituals aimed at supernaturally enriching individuals, ABN TV reports.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFmy3ZccjUA
The Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, Mr. Ken Emeakayi, disclosed this while leading operatives of Operation Udo Ga-Achi to the shrine.

He explained that the government's action was prompted by multiple complaints from residents of Okija, as well as a viral online video in which Igboegbueze openly admitted to engaging in Oke Ite, Yahoo Plus, and Awele—practices that contravene Anambra State's Homeland Security Laws.

Mr. Emeakayi further revealed that, in addition to sealing the shrine, the state government had confiscated all properties acquired by the suspect through the proceeds of the alleged illegal activities. He added that all items recovered from the shrine would undergo forensic examination, and the results would determine the government's next course of action.

Speaking on the development, the Director of Operations for Agunechemba Security Outfit, Mr. Chinenye Ihenko, decried the rising influence of fraudulent native doctors and self-proclaimed pastors, stating that their activities encourage a dangerous "get-rich-quick" mentality among youths.

TravelHon. Onuigbo Urges Swift Completion Of Abia-Imo Link Road Amid Community Outcry by Metrix147(op): 3:18pm On Feb 12, 2025
Former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Sam Onuigbo, has called on contractors handling the vital road project linking Abia and Imo States to intensify efforts toward its completion. The former lawmaker made this appeal during an inspection tour of the project, stressing the socioeconomic importance of the road to both states.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBp1zfNWDIA

Onuigbo noted that the road traverses key locations in Imo, including Amanze Amanze, Uchebulam, Udo, Onicha, Ubizi, and Achengali, while on the Abia side, it passes through Umuanwa, Ubakala, and Nserimo, connecting to the expressway. He commended President Bola Tinubu for prioritizing the project, highlighting the president’s commitment to healing the infrastructural scars left by the Civil War.

"This road is crucial for the people of Imo and Abia States, and I must commend President Tinubu for his determination to ensure its completion," Onuigbo stated. "The Minister of Works' visit to the site further demonstrates the president's commitment."

He urged the contractors to take advantage of the ongoing dry season, which provides favorable conditions for road construction, and accelerate the pace of work to avoid delays before the rainy season sets in.

Onuigbo, who now represents the Southeast on the Governing Board of the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC), emphasized that the road’s completion aligns with President Tinubu’s vision to bridge infrastructural gaps and foster regional development.

The lawmaker recalled his past involvement in securing approvals for the project while in the House of Representatives, including engagements with former Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola, to highlight the road’s strategic importance.

Meanwhile, Amanze Uchebulam, a former Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and an influential figure from Ezihite, Mbaise, echoed Onuigbo’s concerns. He stressed that the dry season provided the best working conditions for road construction, adding that more progress should have been recorded by now, especially from Ubakala to the expressway.

"From November to February, the weather has been favorable for construction," Uchebulam said. "The contractor must focus on finishing the road before the rains return."

While acknowledging good progress between Achengali and Obizi, Uchebulam urged equal attention to be given to the Abia stretch. He also insisted that the current contractor should remain on-site and complete the work, instead of contemplating a change that could cause further delays.

In a related development, residents of Ngodo and other Umuwanwa communities in Ubakala, Umuahia South LGA of Abia State, have appealed to President Bola Tinubu and Minister of Works, David Umahi, to intervene and prevent an impending ecological disaster in their area.

Led by the traditional ruler of Ngodo autonomous community, Eze Stephen Ihuoma, the villagers lamented that the only road and bridge connecting them to the outside world has been abandoned by the contractor, despite two upward revisions in the contract cost.

According to them, the bridge connecting Umuwanwa to Mbaise in Imo State, which was blown up during the Civil War in 1969, was awarded for reconstruction by President Tinubu but remains unbuilt. Additionally, a gully erosion has split the road into two, posing a severe danger to residents.

Receiving Hon. Onuigbo and Amanze Uchebulam, who played key roles in attracting the projects, the communities appealed to the Federal Ministry of Works to compel the contractor to return to site before the rainy season worsens the situation.

"While we appreciate President Tinubu and the Minister of Works for awarding this project, we are pleading that they pressurize the contractor to return and complete the work," Eze Ihuoma stated.

He further revealed that community members had made personal efforts to fix some damaged portions of the road by constructing gutters and carrying out remedial works, but the overall scope of repairs was beyond their capacity.

Responding to the appeals, Hon. Onuigbo reassured the residents that he remained committed to ensuring all projects initiated during his tenure are completed. He urged the contractor to deliver a quality job that aligns with the president's vision for infrastructural renewal in the Southeast.

Similarly, Amanze Uchebulam expressed concern over the contractor’s absence despite the contract’s upward review. While acknowledging some work done on the Imo side, he described the state of the Umuwanwa road and bridge as disappointing and called for urgent intervention.

PoliticsSenator Wabara Was Suspended For Endorsing Gov. Otti - Abia PDP Chairman by Metrix147(op): 4:32pm On Feb 11, 2025
The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed that the suspension of its Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, was due to his endorsement of Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party (LP) for a second term.

Confirming the suspension in an interview with ABN TV, the State PDP Chairman, Elder Abraham Amah, stated that the decision was taken by the State Executive Committee (SEC) after Wabara was found guilty of breaching party loyalty.

“As you are aware, the reasons for the suspension are, one, breach of party loyalty,” Amah said, emphasizing that Wabara’s public declaration of support for Governor Otti in October 2023, barely five months after his inauguration, was a direct act of sabotage against the PDP.

Elder Amah cited Chapter 10, Article 58 (C) and (F) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended), which prohibits members from engaging in activities that undermine the party’s interests. He further referenced Article 59 (1), which empowers the State Executive Committee to impose disciplinary actions, including suspension.

“Article 59 (1) empowers the state executive committee to discipline any member found guilty of infraction, irrespective of their status,” he explained.

Addressing concerns regarding whether the State Working Committee (SWC) had the authority to suspend a Board of Trustees (BoT) member, Amah clarified that Wabara, as a former Senate President, is automatically a member of the State Executive Committee (SEC) under Article 24 (1) (B) of the PDP Constitution.

"The status and the obligation of the BoT chairman grant him membership of the state executive committee, and as a principal officer of the National Assembly under the PDP platform, he is subject to party discipline," he explained.

Dismissing speculations that Wabara’s suspension was linked to the ongoing dispute over the PDP National Secretary position, Amah insisted that the decision was strictly based on his endorsement of Governor Otti.

“The decision was based solely on Wabara’s actions,” he stated.

Amah revealed that the party had initially planned to act earlier, but Wabara had been on medical vacation three times, delaying the process. However, the State Executive Committee deemed it appropriate to take action now that he is available.

Reaffirming the one-month suspension, Amah stated:

"Based on these provisions, Senator Adolphus Wabara has been placed on a one-month suspension from all party activities."

CrimeMazi Nnamdi Kanu Challenges Court’s Jurisdiction, Accuses Judge Of Bias (Video) by Metrix147(op): 2:50pm On Feb 10, 2025
The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has questioned the jurisdiction of Justice Binta Nyako in handling his trial, insisting that she has no legal authority over his case, ABN TV reports.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EWQyUQ_S6g
Kanu, who appeared in court today, claimed he attended out of “courtesy and respect” but maintained that Justice Nyako is recused from the matter and should not preside over it.

During his statement in court, Kanu alleged that there were hidden forces influencing the judicial process in Nigeria. “There are things happening in this country that a lot of you do not know,” he said. “It is my duty to make that very, very clear to all of you. The lies are too much.”

The IPOB leader also revealed that he had filed a petition with the National Judicial Council (NJC), although he declined to disclose its contents. He accused Justice Belinda Nyako of using her position for personal gain and claimed that her family members were involved in manipulating the legal process.

Kanu further alleged that the Nigerian government orchestrated his extradition from Kenya in violation of international law and insisted that there was no legitimate case against him. “Nigeria went to Kenya and kidnapped me. These things are in the public domain. Why then are they insisting on trying me?” he questioned.

The trial has continued to generate controversy, with Kanu’s legal team arguing that his extradition and detention violate international conventions. The Nigerian government, however, maintains that he must face justice over allegations of treasonable felony and other charges.

As the legal battle continues, Kanu’s supporters remain vocal in demanding his release, while the court is expected to rule on the jurisdictional challenge in the coming days.

The arrest, reportedly carried out by the state government, has sparked widespread condemnation, with legal experts and concerned citizens decrying it as a violation of his constitutionally guaranteed rights to freedom of worship and expression.

In a strongly worded statement, legal practitioner Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor described Nwangwu’s detention as unlawful, warning that it reflects an abuse of state power. According to Ejiofor, Nwangwu was invited for a meeting by the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, only to be arrested upon arrival.

Alleged Reason for Arrest

At the center of the controversy is a trending undated video in which Akwa Okuko is purportedly heard discussing a substance called "Okeite." However, Ejiofor noted that the video was not released on Nwangwu’s official platforms, raising concerns about its authenticity and intent. He further questioned whether any crime had been committed, even if the video’s contents were genuine.

Citing Sections 38 and 39 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), Ejiofor emphasized that every Nigerian has the right to freedom of thought, religion, and expression. He argued that Nwangwu’s detention over his religious and personal beliefs violates these fundamental rights.

Who is Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aku?

Chief Chidozie Nwangwu is a well-known traditional doctor, recognized for his metaphysical practices. Contrary to claims that he encourages illicit activities, Ejiofor stated that Nwangwu has consistently advised individuals without legitimate means of livelihood against seeking his services.

“If his arrest is linked to the viral video, then this is an unlawful detention that must be condemned,” Ejiofor said, adding that the move by the Anambra State Government sets a dangerous precedent for suppressing religious and expressive freedoms.

Ejiofor also raised concerns about the Agunechemba Security Outfit, a state-backed security initiative launched to combat crime. He warned that the outfit could be misused for political purposes, especially with the 2025 Anambra gubernatorial election approaching.

He cautioned against any attempt to deploy Agunechemba as a tool for political persecution, stating that such a move would be “roundly resisted by well-meaning Anambrarians.”

Ejiofor has called on the Anambra State Government to immediately and unconditionally release Chief Chidozie Nwangwu, describing his continued detention as a gross abuse of power.

He further urged the government to ensure that Agunechemba remains focused on its original mandate—fighting crime—rather than being used for political witch-hunts.

“The people of Anambra will resolutely reject any attempt to subvert the security outfit’s purpose,” Ejiofor warned, calling for wise counsel to prevail.

The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, has dismissed three officers from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for their involvement in conspiracy, abduction, and extortion of innocent civilians.

The officers, identified as Sergeant Jonas Nnamdi, Corporal James Daniel, and Corporal Ifeanyi Emeka, have also been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for prosecution alongside their civilian accomplices.

According to a statement released and made available to ABN TV by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the officers were found guilty of serious misconduct following an orderly room trial. Their dismissal took effect on February 7, 2025, after investigations confirmed their role in an incident that occurred on January 29, 2025.

On the said date, the dismissed officers, along with two civilian accomplices, allegedly conspired to hire a minibus, armed themselves with an electric baton, an assault rifle, and a Beretta pistol, and abducted civilians along the Port Harcourt Expressway. They reportedly extorted money from their victims and later demanded additional payments from their families for their release.

Following their arrest by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Abayi, the Abia State Police Command launched a disciplinary process that confirmed their culpability. Consequently, their official accoutrements have been retrieved, and they are no longer part of the Nigeria Police Force.

CP Danladi Isa reiterated the command’s commitment to upholding discipline and professionalism, emphasizing a zero-tolerance stance on corruption and misconduct. SportsEnyimba FC Fan Calls Out Kanu Nwankwo Over Club’s Performance by Metrix147(op): 4:57pm On Feb 07, 2025
A concerned fan of Enyimba FC, Ndubuisi Agu, has expressed disappointment over the club’s current state under the leadership of its chairman, Nigerian football legend Kanu Nwankwo.

In a post on his Facebook page, Agu criticized Kanu for allegedly being absent from the club’s affairs, stating that fans expected him to take Enyimba FC to greater heights but have instead been left confused by the direction the club is heading.

"Since we made Kanu Nwankwo Enyimba FC Chairman, it seems he doesn't really know why we made him the chairman or his job," Agu wrote. "Sir, we made you our chairman for you to take us to another level, but the level you are taking us to now is what we can't understand. We fans are disappointed."

He accused Kanu of spending more time abroad while the club struggles, urging him to step down if he cannot handle the responsibilities of the position.

"You now stay abroad while we suffer here. If you can't do the job bro, please step down. This is not the Enyimba FC we used to know. Our management adirọ mma (is not good) at all," he added.

Agu further questioned how many times Kanu had attended Enyimba’s matches to support the team, emphasizing that the club should not be handled with a lack of seriousness.

"This is Enyimba FC we are talking about, not Agamkpa FC, please. Be serious with this job," he concluded.

Kanu Nwankwo was appointed chairman of the Aba-based club in 2023, and expectations have been high given his vast experience in football. However, recent concerns from fans suggest growing dissatisfaction with his leadership.

PoliticsGovernor Otti Flags Off Reconstruction Of Omenuko Bridge After Years Of Neglect by Metrix147(op): 2:10pm On Feb 05, 2025
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has officially flagged off the reconstruction of the long-abandoned Igwu River Bridge, popularly known as Omenuko Bridge, breaking the decades-old jinx of having a firm and reliable bridge in the area, ABN TV reports.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Ozuabam, Arochukwu Local Government Area, Governor Otti emphasized that although the bridge is located on a federal road, his administration remains committed to serving the people regardless of jurisdiction.

“This project, as has been said repeatedly, is supposed to be a Federal project. Yes, many people reached out to me, just like the House of Representatives member recalled. What we are doing as a government is that anywhere we see that work needs to be done, we don’t wait for people to ask us—we begin to do the work. You can be sure that your government, which is a very responsible government, will attend to them,” Governor Otti stated.

He revealed that his administration initially excluded the project from the 2024 budget, believing that the Federal Government had already awarded the contract. However, after further inquiries, they discovered that the information was incorrect, leading to budget adjustments and successful virement to fund the project.

“One thing that is clear is that before we start any project, we already have plans to fund that project. I am glad to report to you today that the money required to complete this road project is sitting somewhere, waiting,” he assured.

The Governor further directed the Commissioner for Works to revise the project’s completion timeline from one year to nine months, based on assurances from the contractor handling the reconstruction.

In addition to the bridge project, Governor Otti announced the approval for the reconstruction of the Abam Ring Road and the establishment of a primary healthcare centre in Abam community, as requested by the President General of the Abam Development Union.

“Prior to this time, I was informed that there was at least one primary healthcare centre in every ward, but today, I know better. As we speak, we are renovating Primary Healthcare Centres across the state. As I leave here, I will call the Honourable Commissioner for Health to begin arrangements for setting up a healthcare centre in this community,” he assured.

On the Abam Ring Road, Governor Otti revealed that the government had already begun preliminary work and had awarded the 23-kilometre road to two contractors, with work expected to commence in the coming weeks.

PoliticsGovernor Otti Approves New Pay Package For Abia Traditional Rulers (video) by Metrix147(op): 6:43pm On Feb 04, 2025
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has approved a new monthly stipend ranging from N250,000 to N350,000 for traditional rulers in the state, ABN TV reports.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLR1E9TIQxI
This is a significant increase from the previous payments, which ranged from N25,000 to N50,000, a figure many considered insufficient for the responsibilities of the traditional institution.

The new pay structure, effective December 2024, reflects the administration’s recognition of the critical role traditional rulers play in fostering peace, security, and development in their communities. Governor Otti also approved a N150,000 Christmas package for over 500 traditional rulers to support their festive celebrations.

Reacting to the development, the Chairman of the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Linus Nto Mba, expressed gratitude to Governor Otti, describing the increase as historic and unprecedented.

"No former Governor in the state has so honored the traditional institution like Governor Otti," he stated in a press release.

The traditional rulers also prayed for the Governor’s continued good health, wisdom, and resources to sustain his administration’s transformative agenda. They pledged to work with the government to maintain peace and security in their respective domains.

Governor Otti’s move marks a significant departure from previous administrations, which were criticized for neglecting traditional rulers. In past years, traditional leaders repeatedly complained about poor welfare packages, but this new policy now positions them as key partners in governance.

PoliticsGovernors Should Allow LGAs To Breathe – Hon. Amobi Ogah by Metrix147(op): 1:05pm On Feb 03, 2025
The Member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Amobi Ogah, has urged state governors to grant Local Government Areas (LGAs) financial autonomy to accelerate grassroots development.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWo62CwOI1I
Speaking during a series of town hall meetings with his constituents, Hon. Ogah decried the undue control of LGA funds by state governors, stating that this practice has hindered the development of rural communities.

He emphasized that many demands made on lawmakers should ideally be the responsibility of LGAs, but the lack of financial independence has prevented them from fulfilling their mandates.

“There is no LGA in Nigeria today that does not receive at least N250 million monthly from the federal government. That’s why the governors are holding tight to LGA allocations,” he stated.

Hon. Ogah assured his constituents that the National Assembly, alongside President Bola Tinubu, is working towards granting financial autonomy to LGAs to ensure equitable development.

“If every LGA gets its full allocation, the level of development at the grassroots will be remarkable. This will also ease the burden on lawmakers who often have to take up responsibilities that local governments should handle,” he added.

PoliticsPresident Tinubu Committed To Creating New State For South East – Hon. Ogah by Metrix147(op): 10:35am On Feb 03, 2025
The Member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah, says that the South East has lost so much for having the least number of states in Nigeria.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWo62CwOI1I
Hon Ogah who stated this over the weekend, in town hall meetings with his constituents at Mbalano Isuikwuato and Nkwoagu Umunneochi respectively, said the creation of a parity state for South East would address a lot of injustice against the zone, and quicken development in the zone.

While observing that Nigeria is running a government of ‘sharing formula’, the LP Lawmaker vowed to lobby all necessary Stakeholders and Authorities including his colleagues to ensure the realization of the creation of Etiti State.

” The truth is that the South East has lost so much for having the least number of states in Nigeria. As a lawmaker, I came to Abuja and I found out that Nigeria is running a government of ‘sharing formula,” Hon Ogah noted.

He noted with delight that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is genuinely committed to creating an additional state for the South East geopolitical zone to bring the zone at par with other zones in the country.

“The good news is that Mr President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, sincerely wants to create an additional state for the South East so we can be at par with other zones. When he said he would create the South East Development
Commission, we thought it was a joke but today, we have seen it’s a reality.

”So, he has again shown commitment to balance the inequality in several states. And we have sponsored the Bill for the creation of Etiti State which is the only Bill that has passed the second reading, and it is generally accepted by my colleagues.

”We know our brothers in Delta State are pushing for Anioma State but what we are saying is that Etiti State should be the first option because it will balance the inequality and injustice against the South East,” he stated.

Rep. Ogah who sponsored the motion for Etiti State creation which has already passed a second reading at the House of Representatives, pointed out that the proposal enjoys wider acceptance and support of both lawmakers and the masses.

The National Assembly member who commended President Tinubu for his bold step towards addressing Igbo marginalisation , urged his constituents to key into the Etiti State movement, which he traced to late Senator Uche Chukwumerije and other illustrious sons of the area.

From the way it is drafted, 11 LGAs were picked from the current five states with each of them donating two LGAs except Enugu that has three. In Abia, we have Isuikwuato and Umunneochi; Anambra has Orumba North and Orumba South LGAs; Imo has Okigwe and Onuimo LGAs; Ebonyi has Ivo and Ohozara; while Enugu has Aninri, Awgu and Oji River LGAs “

The Rep member further noted with concern that the affected Councils “are the most neglected” in their current states, arguing that creating a new state for them will be a way to give the people a sense of belonging.

” If you look at all these LGAs, they are the most neglected in their current states. Where do Umunneochi and Isuikwuato belong in Abia? They are not even included in the design for electricity that’s why we are having light issues. If you go to Umunze you wonder whether they’re in Anambra or Imo. If you go to Okigwe, it’s the most confused LGA in the South East. The story is the same in Ivo and Awgu. So, these people need to be remembered”.

He announced that public hearing would soon be held on the Bill, and expressed confidence that the Bill would scale through third reading and be passed into law.

The lawmaker further made it clear that part of the reasons Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is agitating for the restoration of Biafra is because of the entrenched marginalization by the Nigeria State against the Igbo nation, arguing that the creation of parity state will help reduce tension in the South East.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DVIffOHKTM

Speaking during a highly anticipated media engagement on January 30, 2025, broadcast live across radio, TV, and online platforms, Governor Otti addressed key issues affecting Abia State, outlining his administration’s achievements and future plans.

Governor Otti highlighted major strides in healthcare, including the ongoing renovation of 200 primary healthcare centers across the state’s 184 wards. He disclosed that five centers are ready for commissioning, while contractors, who began work using their own funds, are being reimbursed promptly.

The government has allocated over ₦10 billion for the project, with funds securely lodged in the Ministry of Health’s account. Additionally, plans for the renovation of 22 general hospitals are at advanced stages, with contracts for four major hospitals in Ohafia, Arochukwu, and Obingwa set to be awarded soon.

In a major milestone, the Abia State University Teaching Hospital has regained accreditation, allowing more student admissions. Governor Otti also revealed that ₦16.6 billion has been allocated in the 2025 budget to improve training and infrastructure in schools of nursing and health technology.

Governor Otti emphasized his administration’s zero-tolerance for education deprivation, reaffirming that primary and secondary education in Abia is free and compulsory.

“No child in Abia State will be denied access to education,” he declared.

To accommodate an expected surge in student enrollment, the government will recruit over 2,000 teachers, with the application portal already open. Additionally, the retirement age for teachers has been extended to 65, with considerations to increase it further to 70. Teacher retraining programs are also ongoing, while tertiary institutions, including Abia State University, are being revitalized, with some campuses relocated back to Uturu for better management.

The governor also provided updates on his administration’s aggressive infrastructure drive, revealing that several completed road projects are ready for commissioning.

One of the latest projects is the 13.95 km Okpurueyi to Oboro Ikwuano road, a key access route for communities known for cocoa and rice production.

“We are focused on giving our people the access they have been denied for decades,” Governor Otti asserted.

He also announced plans to reconstruct the notorious Omenuko Bridge, a death trap that has claimed many lives, with the flag-off scheduled for next week.

Governor Otti reassured residents of his administration’s unwavering commitment to security, noting that the government has refurbished five abandoned Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) and handed them over to the police to boost security operations.

Our duty is to stay awake so that Abians can sleep with both eyes closed,” he stated.

He also highlighted recent security successes, including the arrest of a notorious criminal in Lagos.

“We recently apprehended a criminal who believed his native doctors made him invincible. He confessed that our security intelligence was stronger,” the governor revealed.

He urged Abians to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, emphasizing that security is a collective responsibility.

“Everyone must be the chief security officer of their environment. Don’t be afraid to report any suspicious character; we will take them on,” he assured.

Addressing concerns about counterfeit products in Cemetery Market, Aba, Governor Otti acknowledged the issue but noted that such challenges are common in commercial hubs.

“Wherever genuine products exist, counterfeit ones follow,” he remarked.

Encouraging local manufacturers, he stated:

“If you can make fake products, you can also make genuine ones. I encourage our people to create original products and register with NAFDAC.”

PoliticsImplement ₦70,000 Minimum Wage Or Face Industrial Action, JUSUN Tells FG by Metrix147(op): 4:40pm On Jan 31, 2025
The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has issued a 21-day ultimatum for the commencement of an industrial action over the non-implementation of the new national minimum wage and judiciary financial autonomy, ABN TV reports.

In a communiqué released at the end of its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Abuja, JUSUN commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing the new minimum wage bill into law, increasing the minimum wage to ₦70,000. However, the union urged the federal government to take more concrete fiscal steps to alleviate the economic hardship faced by Nigerians.

JUSUN also
acknowledged state governors who have begun implementing the new minimum wage but urged those yet to comply to do so immediately.

The union expressed dismay over the non-implementation of the national minimum wage, the 25%-35% salary increment since January 2024, and the ₦35,000 wage awards for federal judiciary workers. It called on President Tinubu to ensure the prompt implementation of these payments.

As part of its resolutions, JUSUN issued a 21-day ultimatum starting January 23, 2025, warning that failure to meet its demands would lead to an industrial action by judiciary workers across the country.

Furthermore, the union criticized state governors for failing to implement judiciary financial autonomy despite constitutional provisions and court rulings. JUSUN urged state governments to urgently take necessary actions to uphold judicial independence and safeguard democracy and the rule of law.
