There was joy and relief yesterday as the family of Mrs. Fidelia Nnabuenyi, an 89-year-old woman who was found in Aba, Abia State, reunited with her at the Osisioma Police Division, ABN TV reports. Mrs. Nnabuenyi went missing from her home in Aba on Friday, March 14, 2025, and was later found wandering on March 16, 2025. Chinyere Benjamin Amefula of Arongwa Village, Osisioma, brought her to the police station the following day. Following ABN TV’s viral report on her case, her family was alerted and immediately rushed to the police station, where an emotional reunion occurred. Expressing their joy, the family said: "It was a thing of joy uniting with our mother. We had been worried and searching for her. We are deeply grateful to ABN TV for publicizing her case and to the Osisioma Police Division for keeping her safe." It was also learned that due to her old age, Mrs. Nnabuenyi occasionally experiences memory loss, which may have led to her wandering off unknowingly. The family extended their heartfelt appreciation to everyone who shared the news, emphasizing the power of media in reuniting missing persons with their loved ones. ABN TV remains committed to community service, ensuring that critical cases like this get the attention they deserve. A violent police invasion at De Latinos Concept, one of the biggest entertainment and hospitality companies in the South East, on Sunday night, March 9, 2025, left several people injured and properties worth millions destroyed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrbJn6Z8lAI The incident, which was reportedly triggered by a disagreement over suya meat, escalated into a full-blown attack on the establishment. Speaking with ABN TV, the CEO of De Latinos, Mr. Emmanuel Okenini, popularly known as Bello, narrated how the incident unfolded. He stated that the trouble started around 9:15 PM when a police officer in Mufti attempted to enter the De Latinos premises with suya meat. The company, which has a strict policy against bringing in outside food and drinks, denied him entry. Despite being repeatedly informed of this rule by the bouncers, the officer insisted on gaining access with the suya meats. Frustrated by the refusal, the officer allegedly called for reinforcements. Soon after, a group of armed police officers, accompanied by some soldiers, stormed the premises. In the chaos that followed, one of the bouncers was severely beaten and forcibly taken away in a police vehicle, bleeding heavily. The situation escalated further around 10 PM when another officer, a female police officer, arrived at the premises with her family, also carrying suya meat. When she was also denied entry, another wave of police officers arrived, this time in three to four pickup trucks, surrounding the entire De Latinos premises. Eyewitnesses described the scene as terrifying, as police officers fired tear gas into the area, causing panic among customers and staff. Officers allegedly threatened everyone to leave immediately or face more consequences, forcing people to flee in fear. Many victims, including asthmatic patients, were severely affected by the excessive use of tear gas, with over 10 people rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Umuahia for emergency treatment. One of the victims, who barely escaped, shared their harrowing experience: "I was a victim, like I almost lost my sight and life. How can you throw tear gas, putting the lives of innocent citizens at risk? Abia State government should call all officers to order. This is the height of it. My whole body was covered [in tear gas], if not for Good Samaritans that rushed to rescue me, what would have been my fate?" As the biggest entertainment and hospitality brand in the South East, De Latinos Concept suffered huge financial losses from the attack. According to Mr. Okenini, the police invasion led to customers fleeing in panic, leaving behind unpaid bills for food, drinks, and other services. He estimated the loss to be in the millions of naira. A Magistrate Court in Umuahia North Magisterial District has sentenced Pastor Uche Arua Kalu, 40, to 10 years imprisonment without an option of fine for defiling a 4-year-old girl in Amaogudu Abiriba, Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzr3NLYeFQg The judgment was delivered on Friday, March 7, 2025, by His Worship Onuoha U.C. (Miss) after the defendant pleaded guilty to the crime. During the hearing, the Investigating Police Officer (IPO), ASP Iweajunwa, was called upon to present the facts of the case. However, the defendant, Pastor Uche Arua Kalu, denied knowing what he was being accused of, contradicting his earlier guilty plea on December 20, 2024. The Prosecuting Counsel, Chinedu Ikpa Esq., from the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Umuahia, reminded the court that the defendant had already confessed in the charge sheet, admitting that he had no idea what came over him when he committed the grievous crime. In a desperate plea for leniency, the defendant fell to his knees, begging the court for mercy and a reduced sentence. He expressed fears of facing life imprisonment under Section 7(1)(2) of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law 2019, under which he was charged. The prosecution presented undeniable evidence against the accused, including his own confession and the IPO’s investigative report. Citing the case of Uket v. The State (2024) LPELR – 80009 (CA), the prosecution emphasized that for a defilement case to be proven, three key elements must be established: Recall that Mrs. Ugo Enyinnaya, the mother of the victim, first exposed the case on the popular podcast show "Talk Make I Talk" with Fakzy. She publicly narrated how Pastor Uche Arua Kalu lured her daughter under false pretenses, defiled her, and then bribed her with snacks to keep silent. Her revelation on the podcast brought widespread attention to the case and intensified the demand for justice. The ruling has been met with mixed reactions. While many have praised the court for delivering justice, some argue that the sentence should have been more severe, given the trauma inflicted on the child. Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has assured his supporters that victory is inevitable despite the ongoing political turmoil in the state. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBNPF6nseU8 Speaking on Monday during the commissioning of the Government House Staff Quarters at Forces Avenue, opposite the Government House in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara emphasized that the struggle in Rivers State is not just about politics but about standing for truth and justice. Quoting from Philippians 3:18-19, the governor underscored the importance of faith and resilience, declaring, "Despite everything, victory is sure." Amid rising political tension, Governor Fubara made a bold declaration that he would not hesitate to make the ultimate sacrifice if necessary to protect the interests of Rivers people. "It must be on record that Rivers State is my top priority. If it requires me to pay the supreme price, I will not hesitate," he stated. He further emphasized that his administration stands for peace but will not tolerate any attempt to destabilize the state. "No matter how much we have been deceived in this state, the time has come for Rivers people to take their destinies into their own hands," he asserted. Meanwhile, the Martins Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Governor Fubara, demanding that he present the 2025 Appropriation Bill without delay. Citing a Supreme Court ruling that halted statutory federal allocations to the state pending the passage of the budget, the lawmakers insisted that urgent action was needed to prevent a financial crisis. “We do not want Rivers people to suffer. We, therefore, urge you to do the needful in the best interest of the good people of Rivers State,” read a letter signed by Speaker Martins Amaewhule. The Assembly also announced plans to amend the Rivers State Local Government Law No. 5 of 2018 and the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission Law No. 2 of 2018 to align them with the Electoral Act, paving the way for fresh local government elections. A viral video circulating on social media has sparked intense debate after a woman, who previously testified at Evangelist Ebuka Obi’s Zion Ministry about purchasing a multi-million naira mansion, was allegedly seen selling drinks after the testimony. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfcC2tYqniI The development has raised questions among Nigerians, with some suggesting it casts doubt on the authenticity of testimonies shared at the popular church. Critics argue that the incident reinforces concerns about exaggerated or fabricated testimonies in religious circles, while supporters insist there may be more to the story than meets the eye. Reacting to the controversy, Evangelist Ebuka Obi had, in a prophecy on February 4, claimed that a major accusation would be fabricated against him and his ministry this year. He warned that the alleged scandal would “shake the internet” and “look real, but be fake.” He further declared that those involved in orchestrating the allegations “will all die.” The statement has since fueled more reactions, with some questioning whether the recent viral video aligns with his earlier prophecy. While some followers of Zion Ministry view the video as an attack on their spiritual leader, others believe it raises concerns about the credibility of testimonies within the church. As debates continue, the Zion Ministry and Evangelist Obi are yet to issue an official response regarding the authenticity of the woman’s initial testimony and the circulating video. The American Veterans of Igbo Descent (AVID) have issued a strongly worded open letter to the Nigerian government, urging President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to release the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. The group, made up of military veterans of Igbo heritage living in the United States, described Kanu’s continued detention as unlawful and a violation of international human rights. In their letter, signed by AVID President Chief Dr. Sylvester Onyia and Secretary Dr. Godson Obiagwu, the veterans cited multiple court rulings, including decisions by Nigerian courts and the United Nations, which they argue invalidate Kanu’s detention. They emphasized that the Nigerian government has no legal basis to continue holding Kanu and called on President Tinubu to act immediately in ensuring his release. The letter referenced several judicial decisions in favor of Kanu, starting with an October 26, 2022, judgment by the Federal High Court of Nigeria. The court declared that Kanu’s extradition from Kenya—described as an "extraordinary rendition"—was illegal and violated his fundamental human rights. The ruling further stated that his continued detention in Abuja was unconstitutional and amounted to a violation of his dignity and right to life under Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution. In December 2023, the Supreme Court of Nigeria also weighed in on the case. Despite remitting Kanu’s case back to the Federal High Court for trial, the court acknowledged that his initial detention was unlawful. It confirmed that he had been on bail when his home in Nigeria was invaded by heavily armed security forces, causing him to flee for safety. AVID noted that this attack, which forced Kanu into exile, was used as a false pretense to revoke his bail, issue an arrest warrant, and seize the bail bonds of his sureties. "The government knew that their illegal actions made it impossible for Mr. Kanu to be in court for trial," the letter stated. "Yet, they proceeded to revoke his bail and claim he had jumped bail when, in fact, he was fleeing for his life." It was a heartwarming and symbolic moment today at the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Umuahia as Dr. Miss Precious Ola Chizramekpere Ifeanyi, fondly called OlaPre, returned to the very hospital where she was born for a special visit as part of her school's Career Day celebration. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wy1zPFY5tQQ Despite being just one year and nine months old, little OlaPre has already begun to express a deep passion for the medical profession. Excited about her future, she confidently wore a medical doctor’s outfit to school and could not stop declaring, "Doctor! Doctor! Doctor!" During her visit to FMC Umuahia, OlaPre was warmly received by the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof. Onyebuchi Azubuike, who offered prayers for her future. "When Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is liberated, many individuals will queue up to claim glory, including Satan, and no amount of sabotage will be able to hinder his release. Write down today’s date," he wrote. The trial of former Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, over alleged N4 billion fraud continued on Monday, February 24, 2025, at the Federal High Court, Abuja, with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) presenting its ninth witness. Obiano is facing a nine-count charge of embezzlement and money laundering brought against him by the EFCC. At Monday’s hearing, the prosecution called its ninth witness, Andrew Ali, a staff member of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Head of the Licensing Office. Ali revealed that three out of the 23 companies linked to the alleged fraud were not licensed by the CBN to operate as Bureau de Change businesses. “Sometimes around April 2023, we received two letters from the EFCC regarding some 23 financial institutions to determine if they were licensed or not. I forwarded the letters to the desk officer, who confirmed that we had received similar inquiries in the past. In our response dated May 21, 2023, we confirmed that three of the companies were not registered,” Ali stated. The court admitted into evidence the EFCC’s eight-page letter and the CBN’s response, marking them as Exhibit A1 to A8. During cross-examination, Obiano’s defense counsel, Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), asked Ali about the licensing status of one of the implicated companies, Zirga Zirga Trading Company. Ali explained that the company had failed to meet licensing requirements before 2014 and had been delisted. “Once a company does not meet the requirements, it is delisted. The CBN only supervises licensed institutions. If a company is not on our list, we lose the power to supervise it. We issue public notices to warn people against dealing with unlicensed firms, and this information is available on our website,” Ali said. He further cited Sections 15 and 19 of the CBN Revised Operational Guidelines of 2015, emphasizing that once a Bureau de Change (BDC) fails to renew its license, it is delisted and published on the CBN’s valedictory list. He also clarified that BDCs are required to conduct business through operational accounts and are not permitted to operate outside these accounts. Following the witness’s testimony, Justice Inyang Ekwo adjourned the case to February 26, 2025, for the continuation of trial. The traditional ruler of Oriendu Autonomous Community in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, HRH Eze Philip Ajomiwe, has raised serious concerns following the discovery of over 30 unidentified bodies in the Imo River since last year. Speaking to journalists at his palace yesterday after the latest discovery of a woman's corpse, the monarch described the trend as alarming and deeply troubling. According to Eze Ajomiwe, the victims, mostly young girls, are often found naked with missing body parts or packed in bags. In some instances, decomposing bodies have also been found near the NNPC pipeline. “The victims are mostly young girls. The ritualists from Imo State usually come at night to dump their victims' bodies inside the Imo River, and in the morning, we wake up to find them,” he lamented. Despite several reports to security agencies, the monarch revealed that no arrests have been made. He noted that while the community's vigilante group had attempted to stop the perpetrators, they lacked the necessary equipment to confront the heavily armed suspects. "We’re appealing to the state government to empower the vigilante group with the necessary logistics and resources. You don’t go into such a fight empty-handed when the enemy is well-armed," Eze Ajomiwe stated. The traditional ruler further disclosed that he had formally reported the situation to security authorities, including the Department of State Services (DSS). His latest appeal was in a letter addressed to the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly on February 7. While appreciating the state government’s upward review of stipends for traditional rulers, Eze Ajomiwe noted that the amount remained insufficient to tackle security challenges. He emphasized that monarchs do not have security votes like governors, making it difficult for them to equip their community vigilante groups adequately. In response to the revelations, the Abia State Police Command has promised to investigate the matter. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Maureen Chilaka, said she would inquire from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the area to confirm the authenticity of the monarch’s claims. She also sought to determine whether any formal complaint had been lodged at a police station before providing further updates. The Federal Government (FO) has announced a ban on fuel tankers exceeding 60,000 litres from operating on Nigerian roads, a move aimed at curbing accidents involving heavy-duty petroleum trucks, ABN TV reports. The ban is expected to take effect from March 1, 2025. The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) disclosed this development, adding that by the fourth quarter of 2025, no truck with a capacity exceeding 45,000 litres will be permitted to load petroleum products. Speaking to journalists on Wednesday in Abuja, Ogbugo Ukoha, the Executive Director of Distribution Systems, Storage, and Retailing Infrastructure at NMDPRA, explained that the decision was reached following an alarming rise in road accidents involving fuel tankers. “The first stakeholder’s technical committee met today to drill down and put timelines for about 10 resolutions that had been taken on how to drive down the significant increase that had been observed in relation to trucks and transit incidents and fatalities,” Ukoha stated. He further revealed that key stakeholders, including the Department of State Services (DSS), Federal Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN), and NMDPRA, were involved in the decision-making process. According to Ukoha, a consensus was reached among all stakeholders to enforce the new regulations in the interest of public safety. From March 1, 2025, trucks with an axle load exceeding 60,000 litres of hydrocarbons will be prohibited from loading at any depot in the country. “This is an important step because, for the first time, consensus was built amongst all stakeholders, and we are continuing to encourage cohesive efforts to ensure the safe transportation of petroleum products across the country,” he emphasized. Addressing concerns regarding fuel quality, Ukoha dismissed recent claims about substandard fuel in circulation, describing them as “bogus, misleading, and unscientific.” Source: https://abntv.com.ng/news/fg-bans-fuel-tankers-above-60000-litres-from-nigerian-roads/ Cc; lalasticlala, Mynd44, Seun, OAM4J
