Schools typically take 4-weeks to respond. What did you study for your undergrad? I am not scared about you getting admission, I am scared about you getting the Study Visa. Brother, your profile looks like that of an immigrant. Why don't you migrate through skilled worker? With 10 years working experience in the Financial Industry, an MBA would have been a better route for to take waka.

Why don't you go first without your family, at least this will show that you have home ties in Naija.

Well, I guess you have a reason for choosing the course. That been said, I would advise you apply to multiple schools to enhance your chances of been accepted. 3.5 is an OK CGPA. However, it is by no means fantastic.

I am so sorry about the refusals. I have been in Canada since 2009 and have somewhat of a good grasp on the immigration system. Surely, it will raise a red flag but be sure to put in enough evidence to show that the marriage is genuine and not a marriage of convenience. Trust me, you will get the work permit, do not panic. I passionately disagree with this part. My British supervisor used to tell me then that if you don't prepare for any interviews, you will fumble, no matter how much you know the topic. Looking at previous interviews isn't a crime. It's a smart way of learning and preparing. Only a dullard makes no sense out of previous interview but only to copy and paste. Such dullard shouldn't even want to study in US in the first place. When I was preparing back then, I only learned the structure of US student visa interview for Nigerians (apparently that was the keywords that led me to nairaland). If not, how do I know the sequence of the questions, dos & don'ts and what leads to success interview before I visit the embassy?

It's true that many don't know about this thread before they got the visa but when they do, they wish they had known, probably life would have been easy for them before the interview. Please don't get the VO wrong.

The world is so competitive now that it is VITAL that in everything our people do they need to put in the effort- visa o, job ooo ,  all aspect of life  ,do detailed research on how to get it and prepare well . There so much to learn and grow even in little things like other transcripts , experiences , failures or success  


We need to promote the culture of been well prepared for anything you apply for , however little especially something that could enhance you.. It makes a world of difference when you are ready and makes you more competitive .

I'm not saying I didn't know why I chose the school. All I'm saying is, you need to back up your reason with other stuff you'd find on the school website. Your reason might not be convincing to the VO and if it's the VO that offers another opportunity for applicants to give more reasons, would you repeat same unconvincing stuff or pick another good reason from your archive and dish it out?

And concerning the courses, I knew my courses when I went for my first interview... what I didn't know was what makes these courses tick. Hence the reason why it was difficult for me to consistently integrate my courses clearly into my response on my first interview.

But the second time, I was able to nail every word in the head even while I was a lil bit shaky. I mean syncing Pure Physics, Information Technology and Project Management together in a sentence to save my life only came through cuz of good preparation.

I'm not in support of cramming tho

Its boil down to the individual then.

Every body Journey is different ...... Some students are sound from beginning and some need help in order to navigate some of these answers.

Even for MBA in the US you have books on MBA interviews and answer and people buy to help them . These are people that even after gaining admission to top Ivy league still need help . No be them fill their MBA application and in most top schools did interview to get in .. Its a normal process in life .

To answer you question, my first F1 i was 18 years do you HONESTLY think i would have known all those answers at 18 years without any help .....

I agree with you Madame, this is why I said younger students might have no idea of what they are going for. I still believe that a mature student who applies him/herself does not need to stay up at night over thinking things. I mean it's only a visa interview.

I'm in support of this. Preparation is essential. One major reason why I was denied the first time was because I couldn't state my courses clearly.

And it is even more essential to do a lot of deep research about one's school of choice, this would help any individual when trying to convince a VO why he/she chose the school. It took me the third try on why I chose my school before the VO was finally convinced. If I hadn't prepared well, I would have gone numb and result would have been "sorry blah blah"

Read, glance through transcripts, study likely questions, rephrase them in your own way, visit your school website often and know some of your potential instructors' name before the interview cuz it could come in handy when defending your goal.

Prepare in every way but never cram.

Have an idea of past questions and learn from there . For example most people would not view the curriculum of their courses , but noting that is it a commonly asked question that would help in your visa preparation.

Really? A true student who completed his/her application on their own will be able to answer these questions immediately after hitting "send application[i][/i]".

Well, I am sorry guess all students are different. I guess some apply to any school without proper research because they just want to leave naija.

For a student to pick a school, he or she would have had these questions going through their thought process.

Some applicants get so "prepared" that they can't answer the questions that are being asked of them. They just want to give their rehearsed speeches. Don't be that applicant. It's a sure way to get refused a visa.

It's really quite a simple process; you fill out your own application, you answer the questions honestly, and then the determination is made if you qualify for the visa or not under U.S. law. That is not to say that everyone who answers honestly is qualified, because they aren't necessarily, but once you start making up crazy stories or telling lies it no longer matters if you are qualified. Plenty of applicants that are probably qualified get refused every day because they think they need to craft a story and it doesn't make sense.

Guys, I have said this before. Preparation is not needed.
I know I asked but looking at someone's transcript is not needed.
A lot of people use people's answer while at the interview.

Why did my woman choose her school = Because it was within our budget. Finish, no long thing (the cheapest amongst the others we researched). If you use this answer but lack confidence you might be denied.

How many schools did we apply to = Only 1

Any GRE= No GRE

VO's don't really care about account statement and all that. If you have so much money, apply for Green card under investor class or better still go to Malta and invest $500,000 and you will be given passport in 1 week.

When I hear people on this forum preparing and over preparing for an interview, I ask myself, why all the preparation?

If you did the application yourself from start to finish, I don't think there is anything the VO would ask that you are unable to answer.

Don't get me wrong, I know that I asked someone to send me transcripts but the young lady I sent it to refused to go through it because she sees no need for it. I believe that over preparing might make one stutter because you have so many things running through your mind.

I believe the only thing we applicant have to work on is our communication skill, confidence, the ability to give cogent answers to questions asked and been honest.

Also, I've heard people talk about dressing. Their website no correlation between what you wear and a VO's decision to give or refuse visa. When I was given USA visa, I wore Jean and plain white t-shirt to the embassy.

I understand that people are nervous but have it at the back of your mind that VO's are humans, please don't try to impress.

Nigeria isn't the best country I know but we still have to carry out shoulders high. America as you all know isn't the safest country in the world but her citizens still dey package the country like say na the best.

Lastly, please guys let's try to be careful in our a choice of words. Insulting one another isn't the best. Abroad no be the end of life oh, there are still other challenges ahead. I'm not a guru but I've been on this platform for a minute.

Hmm, abroad sweet when you are young but it's kinda bitter as you get more responsibilities.

The question I have for you is, what is your plan after graduation? Germany dey give paper? Is it easy for a non-German to get a job after graduation? Hi guys, I'm Chigozie and I'm already schooling here in the US but I'm quite in a dilemma. I just finished my third year and when the Fall semester starts in August I'll be in my final year. However I'm an orphan, lost the only parent I have and it's been hard to pay my tuition. I have a scholarship that covers half of the tuition but not all so I've been trying to find options. UTEP is ok. Though UTA is of a better standard. Admission rate is 99%. So they always admit. Tution is about 18,000$. But I will try TAMU if I were you. You authomatically qualify to pay instate tuition which is 7000$ and it's well ranked. But I'm terms of cost of living, Elpaso is very affordable.
