Gandollar:insults and baseless claims are the hallmark of PDP and APC supporters. you can make your point without resorting to insults. |
both Atiku and Buhari have no plans to attend the debate because they have nothing to offer. they're both poorly educated Fulani herdsmen. Atiku is in the USA and wouldn't come back till tomorrow, he has no initial plan to be part of the debate. |
Atiku is in the USA and wouldn't come back till tomorrow while Buhari have refused to participate in today's debate. Does it mean that the two Fulani contestants lacks the self confidence to confront the younger and better educated candidates from the south? |
Nairaland moderators have been covering up the sacking of the military base in Rann two days ago by boko haram. Why |
Ohanaeze and all the southeast governors were involved in the plot to use soldiers against ipob. The Abia state deputy governor was reported by many news media to have said that that" operation python dance was the best thing to have happened in the southeast". Seven Killed As Boko Haram Attacks Nigeria Military Base Seven people were killed when Boko Haram fighters attacked a military base in remote northeast Nigeria, setting fire to shelters for those displaced by the conflict, military and humanitarian sources told AFP Tuesday. Boko Haram Terrorists Boko Haram Jihadists Attack 145 Battalion In Gashigar, Borno State The attack in Rann, some 175 kilometres (110 miles) northeast of the Borno state capital, Maiduguri, began late on Monday afternoon and forced civilians to flee. It followed a pattern by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) faction of Boko Haram that has called into question government claims the group is virtually defeated. A similar attempt was made to take over a military base in Magumeri, 50 kilometres northwest of Maiduguri, on Sunday, a local community leader said. Rann currently hosts around 35,000 internally displaced people (IDPs), according to the International Organization for Migration. It has been repeatedly hit in the conflict, exacerbating already dire humanitarian conditions on the ground. A military source in Maiduguri said the attack began at about 5:20 pm (1620 GMT) on Monday. Poor visibility because of seasonal Harmattan winds hampered the deployment of air force jets, and troops were forced to withdraw, he said. “So far we have three soldiers killed and two others are still unaccounted for,” he said. “The base was burned by the terrorists, who took away weapons and vehicles left by the troops when they withdrew.” Locals and IDPs fled as the Islamist militants set fire to camps and shelters, he said. There was no immediate official response from the military when contacted by AFP. – Camps torched – An aid worker in Maiduguri said colleagues in Rann blamed ISWAP for the raid and people fled towards Bulale, on the Cameroon side of the border. “Four IDPs were killed. Two were shot dead while two were slaughtered by the attackers. Several shelters were burned. They also looted food supplies in the town,” the source said. Reinforcements from Gamboru, some 40 kilometres away, arrived in Rann on Tuesday morning, the aid worker said. The United Nations last week said more than 30,000 people fled after a similar attack in and around the Borno town of Baga in late December. Some 260 aid workers had also been forced to withdraw from three local government areas in northern Borno near Lake Chad, where ISWAP are known to operate. Humanitarian operations in Rann were suspended in March last year after another attack on a military base, which killed three aid workers. Two out of three health workers who were kidnapped have since been executed. Scores of people were killed in January 2017 when Nigerian air force jets mistakenly bombed the IDP camp in Rann. The Islamist insurgency began in 2009 and has killed more than 27,000. Some 1.8 million people are still homeless. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/01/seven-killed-as-boko-haram-attacks-nigeria-military-base/ |
ON January 16, 20198:52 PM/IN News / Comments Thousands of people have fled a remote town in northeast Nigeria, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said on Wednesday, after Boko Haram fighters attacked a military base and torched aid buildings. Monday’s attack in Rann, in Borno state, has been blamed on the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) faction of Boko Haram, which has carried out similar raids against troops since July last year. The upsurge in violence has forced tens of thousands of people to flee, including internally displaced people (IDPs) who have returned home after previous attacks. Last week, the United Nations said there had been a “massive displacement” of more than 30,000 people after ISWAP strikes in and around Baga, on the shores of Lake Chad, in northern Borno. Military and humanitarian sources on Tuesday told AFP seven people were killed in Rann, including three soldiers. But the medical charity’s emergency programme manager, Hugues Robert, said they were told the death tally was higher — and that some 10,000 people had fled to the border. “The figures we got yesterday from people who have been there… were 14 people died,” he told AFP by phone from Geneva. – Burning buildings – Rann, which is is some 175 kilometres (110 miles) northeast of the Borno state capital, Maiduguri, has now been hit three times since March last year. The first attack killed three aid workers and saw three others kidnapped. Two of the three were later executed. The last attack happened in early December. More than 27,000 people have been killed in northeast Nigeria since the Islamist insurgency began in 2009 while some 1.8 million people are still homeless. An MSF nurse who had been to Rann to assess medical needs after the attack said the town was eerily silent, “like a graveyard”. “The town has been devastated and I was devastated to see it,” Isa Sadiq Bwala was quoted saying in a statement. “Many parts of the town have been burnt.” MSF’s base, office and pharmacy were completely gutted by fire and its equipment store was still burning. Other humanitarian organisations’ buildings were looted and burnt. Staff members were safe but there was a “long line” of civilians heading to Cameroon, he added. “Some had donkeys but many were just carrying their belongings. The ones I spoke to said they were leaving because they were too afraid to stay,” said Bwala. “There is not much left for them to stay, anyway. Their homes are gone and I don’t know what they would live on. The market was burnt and looted — food stores also,” he added. – Civilians hit – Some 35,000 IDPs were staying in Rann at the time of the attack, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Many of those who fled went to the nearby town of Bodo. “Our team in Bodo estimates that some 8,000 people arrived yesterday and we expect several thousand more may come today,” Robert said in a separate statement. “We are preparing to assist 15,000 people with food, water and medical care over the coming days.” The new arrivals, many of whom Robert said were shocked and distressed, are likely to further stretch resources in the impoverished region. Vulnerable children, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers spent the night in the open because of a lack of shelter, he added. “The people of Borno continue to pay the price for this merciless conflit. All the warring parties must respect the safety of civilians,” he added. There is wider concern about the impact of the violence on relief operations, particularly in isolated locations such as Rann, which is often cut off by flooding or bad weather. The UN has said some 260 aid workers have recently had withdraw from northern Borno because of the fighting. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/01/thousands-flee-deadly-boko-haram-attack-in-ne-nigeria/ |

God bless Nnamdi Kanu, for introducing the word 'referendum' into the Nigerian political discussion. Whether you want restructuring or secession, the key is a referendum. Unfortunately, Buhari campaigned with restructuring but dumped the idea once he's in power. Atiku would do the same because restructuring would strip the North/Fulani of all their present privileges. The south should instead go for an all out referendum for secession. That's how Eastern Cameroon seceded from Nigeria. It's easier to achieve because only the seceding Southern regions would be required to vote without the North. No referendum, no election. |
the funny truth is that the strength of a block does not depend on it's size rather it depends on it's compressive strength. what determines this strength is the mix ratio of cement used in producing it. what we use in Nigeria are not even concrete blocks because they don't contain stones. it's these stones that gives it most of it's compressive strength. the size of foundation and other structural members are often done by local builders based on experience of the local soils. 99.99% of all foundations(especially for bungalows) in Nigeria are not specifically designed based on soil tests yet they're not collapsing. Also, there's no proof that registered engineers in Nigeria build better structures at the lowest costs compared to other building professionals. In Nigeria, experience and a honest desire to do the right thing seems to be the watch word. |
zoogerians, ntoor. No referendum, no election. |
zoological republic. Nigerians have brought eternal trouble to themselves by voting jibrin into power, Gej would be laughing out loud now. no referendum, no election. |
