Tony Okafor, Awka The Indigenous People of Biafra has asked the Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, to stop intimidating citizens of the state because he has allegedly been promised the position of vice-presidential in 2023. This warning was contained in a statement signed by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, on Tuesday. The group alleged that the governor ordered the arrest of innocent locals that reportedly exposed the atrocities of terrorist herdsmen in Ebonyi communities. The statement read in part, “We the Indigenous People of Biafra wish to warn Gov Umahi against the grave implications of his actions. Declaring law abiding citizens wanted simply because they exposed and confronted foreign terrorists in Ebonyi State is worse than terrorism itself. “It only goes to show that Umahi and other eastern politicians know more about the incessant killings, rapes and other atrocities in Ebonyi communities by Fulani herdsmen and terrorists than they are willing to admit. “It is the height of foolery that Gov Dave Umahi will support foreign terrorist herdsmen against his own people that voted for him. Does Dave Umahi not know that our mothers for years now have been afraid of going to their farms for fear of being raped by Fulani terrorists and other evil activities of Miyetti Allah?” https://punchng.com/stop-harassing-people-over-2023-vice-presidential-promise-ipob-tells-umahi/ |

The traditional ruler of Abule-Okuta,
Bariga, Lagos State, Wasiu Jinadu,
has accused policemen attached to
the Bariga Police Division of allegedly
torturing his son, Taiwo, to death.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Taiwo
was arrested on Christmas Day after
a local footballer, identified only as
Toyin, reported to the police that the
victim punched him during a
misunderstanding.
Jinadu told our correspondent that
the police, after torturing his son,
rushed him to the Somolu General
Hospital, where he died.
He said, “On Friday, December 25,
2020, my son and his friends were
celebrating Christmas on Alubarika
Street in Bariga when one Toyin, who
had a misunderstanding with him a
week before Christmas, reported to
the police that Taiwo punched him in
the mouth.
“My son had left his friends to
purchase some clothes and was
returning when policemen, in an
attempt to arrest him, used their
vehicle to crush the motorcycle
conveying him back to Alubarika
Street. Taiwo and the motorcyclist
fell inside drainage and the police
took him into custody.
“When I was informed by Taiwo’s
friends, I was assured that the
situation was under control. But
surprisingly, Toyin came to my
palace around 5am the following day
and met Taiwo’s younger brother,
Gbolahan.
“He told Gbolahan that the police
said Taiwo was sick and that they
took him to the Somolu General
Hospital for treatment. Gbolahan and
Toyin went to the hospital and when
they got there, they saw a foamy
substance coming out of Taiwo’s
mouth.”
While lamenting the impact of the
victim’s injuries during the alleged
torture, Jinadu said Toyin and his
family members fled from the
community when the news of his
son’s death became public
knowledge.
He said, “According to the nurse on
duty, the police dropped Taiwo in the
hospital and claimed that he fell
inside a gutter while drunk. Since
Saturday, December 26, 2020, my
son was placed on oxygen till he
died.
“The police tortured him. The injuries
he sustained were severe. At a point,
we wanted to do a head test, which
cost about N750,000, but while he
was still struggling to live in the
hospital, we took him to LUTH and
LASUTH, where he was rejected due
to lack of bed space.
“My son died around 3am on
Wednesday after all efforts to revive
him proved abortive. His corpse has
been deposited in the LASUTH
mortuary.”
The victim’s mother, Modinat, said he
had a swollen head and bruises at
his back.
“I blame Toyin for involving the
police; if the police were not
involved, my son would still be alive,”
she added. https://punchng.com/monarch-accuses-lagos-police-of-torturing-son-to-death/ |

Four persons have been kidnapped
by hoodlums suspected to be Fulani
herdsmen in Ogwashi-Uku, in the
Aniocha South Local Government
Area of Delta State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the
incident occurred around
Comprehensive Secondary School,
Ogwashi-Uku, on Monday, with three
men and a lady, including a pastor,
abducted.
A source told our correspondent that
one of the victims, Chuks Odili, was
in the company of the pastor and two
other church members when they
were kidnapped.
“The information we got was that the
pastor and three members of his
church went to their building site
when the Fulani herdsmen abducted
them.
“When we dialled Chuks’ phone
number to see if the phone would
ring or not, the man who answered it
had a Fulani accent.
“The kidnappers demanded N10m to
free the victims. The person who
made the call pleaded with them,
promising to pay something far
lesser. The kidnappers angrily
switched off the phone and no
further contact has been made,”
source said.
In another development, a 60-year-
old hunter, Godwin Elumeze, has
been found dead at the Ogwashi-Uku
community forest.
Our correspondent learnt that the
body was recovered from a bush at
the back of the Delta State Fire
Service Station in Ogwashi-Uku on
Monday.
A source said the victim went for a
hunting expedition when he was
killed and his gun taken away.
“The man’s son, who was worried
when he did not return all through
the night, went in search of him.
“It was in the process that he ran
into the body of his father, with his
face bent forward between his legs;
flies were already buzzing around the
remains. He came to the town to
inform the police,” the source said.
The state Police Public Relations
Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya,
confirmed the two incidents.
She said, “Ogwashi-Uku DPO said
investigation into the hunter’s case
was ongoing; he was actually
attacked. For the kidnap, no contact
has been made; no information yet.” https://punchng.com/suspected-herdsmen-kidnap-pastor-three-others-in-delta/ |
Dayo Ojerinde Virologists have advised the Federal Government against the procurement of COVID-19 vaccine at the moment, saying it is unnecessary to introduce it now to Nigerians. A virologist at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, Prof. Rosemary Audu, in an interview with our correspondent, said there would be no need for vaccine if 70 per cent of the population in the country had developed antibodies against the virus. She said, “We do know that so many people have been infected; we’ll like to know whether we have herd immunity already. Do people have antibodies? Do they have protective immunity already? What percentage of the population has the immunity? “If we have up to 70 per cent of the population who have developed antibodies towards the virus, then we would say we’ve had herd immunity and may not necessarily need the vaccine. That is something that I’m sure within the next few months we should be able to tell. “NIMR is conducting an epidemiology survey where we are checking citizens for their antibody levels to this virus. I’m sure very soon, we would be able to advise whether the vaccines will be useful for us or not.” The Director, Human and Zoonotic Virology, College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Prof. Sunday Omilabu, in an interview with our correspondent said it would be dangerous to introduce COVID-19 vaccine to Nigerians at the moment. He said, “There is something in us that is mitigating the virulence of the virus in our body. We may like to call it a kind of immunity that we enjoy through our environment. This is coming to us as an advantage; we have that herd immunity now, if anything comes in now, it may derail what are benefiting from. “For us, I would suggest that they allow people to still use their herd immunity which they are enjoying and is a natural gift. They should concentrate on those few people that have some medical conditions that have made their level of herd immunity very low. The vaccine is dangerous now because we don’t know how it is going to behave in the long run.” https://punchng.com/its-dangerous-to-introduce-covid-19-vaccine-in-nigeria-now-virologists/ |
