5.Julius Caesar Born to the Roman politician Gaius Caesar and Aurelia on July 12,100 B.C.E.,Julius Caesar went on to become one of the greatest military strategist and leaders the world has ever seen.He grew in era when Rome was deeply locked in a political turmoil and quest for leadership. A slightly built man with a soft skin,Julius Caesar had his eyes fixed on the Roman throne but had to prove himself on the battlefield to further pave way for the actualization of his quest. To further fulfill his goals,Caesar realize that he had to forge an alliance with people with supposed power and influence who had the same ambition same as his hence, the creation of the First Triumvirate which included himself,a powerful Roman General called Pompey and,Crassus, a very influential Roman Politician who had vast political connections. Furthermore,Rome was in dangerous times and each legions had its allegiance first to its General before the state itself. Caesar tactically created a bond between him and his soldiers in his legions. He ate, drank, played, and slept alongside his men hence, eliminating any form of strained or distant relationships with them. This eventually made them fiercely loyal to him. His major military breakthrough came when he finally had an excuse to wage war against Gaul.At that time,Caesar had been named Governor of the parts of Gaul Rome controlled. This war was mainly for his political ambitions for only by victory on the battlefield could a politician hope to be taken seriously as a leader in Rome. The Gaelic people at that time were the most powerful and successful people in Northern and Central Europe.During the time of Julius Caesar, they dominated the lands of modern France,England and,Ireland. To the Romans, they were barbarians whose blood-lust in battle was legendary. This was the window of opportunity Caesar had been waiting for. In 58 B.C,Caesar finally moved his legions into Gaul.Five million Gauls stood between him and the glory he craved. He hoped to significantly increase his reputation and power by including the lands of modern day France to the Roman territories and for the next decade Caesar fought series of battles against the Gauls.Over the cause of numerous battles against numerous tribes,Caesar fulfilled exactly what he set out to achieve as he prevailed over his enemies.Over one million Gaelic lives were lost at the hands of Caesar over the cause of the war. The decisive battle was staged at the fortress of Alesia, where the forces of Gaul were united under the great legendary Gaelic warrior chief Vercingetorix from the tribe of Arverni. In the cause of the final showdown,Caesar surrounded Alesia but was shocked when he saw Gaelic reinforcement launching a surprise attack from behind.Trapped in the midst of two enemy forces on the battlefield,Caesar carried out an unprecedented task;he basically conducted an offensive attack and siege in two directions despite been outnumbered five-to-one one the battlefield. His legions eventually won the battle and also captured the Warrior chief Vercingetorix thus, subjugating Gaul and putting an end to the war. This great military success eventually made Julius Caesar one of the two most powerful men in Rome and the entire world. The other person was his great rival General Pompey who was part of the First Triumvirate. In a dramatic twist of turn, the Roman senate did the unthinkable.Fearing that the soaring reputations of the great Caesar in Rome might soon overshadow them all, they came to a conclusion that he should be recalled back to Rome but ordered him to leave his Legions behind. This was a mischievous plan set in motion by Pompey and his allies in the Senate.Caesar knew that such an act would leave him vulnerable or otherwise murdered in Rome by Pompey’s supporters if he went alone. As a brilliant Tactician and Politician,Caesar knew the end result of this game and swiftly turned to his Legions once again for their support, loyalty and, allegiance. The invasion of Rome was about to begin. In 49 B.C.E,Julius Caesar pulled out his entire Legions from the land of Gaul across the Rubicon river against the directives of the Roman Senate and set course for Rome. Caesar’s intent was now clear to them all;he was marching on Rome into Civil War.At the end,Caesar defeated Pompey and took upon himself the title of Dictator, which meant he was a ruler with absolute power.Unfortunately, the civil war which he started spiraled out of hand and escalated.Even two decades after his eventual assassination, civil war and anarchy still raged on as Generals against Legions took up arms against each other in a bitter quest for ultimate power.

6.Sultan Mehmet The Conqueror Mehmet was born on the 30th of March 1432,to the Ottoman Sultan Murad II.During this period, the Ottoman empire had already gained prominence on the world map.Mehmet first had a brief encounter with the throne when his father suddenly abdicated the throne to Mehmet.Even at his young age,the ambitious Mehmet already nursed the idea of a possible invasion on Constantinople;the then capital of the great but waning Byzantine empire.Unfortunately, the plan did not come to fruition at that time for his father Murad, the erstwhile Sultan, was persuaded by his councilors to take back the throne of the empire which he swiftly did thus, ending the first reign of Mehmet. Conversely, his second ascension as Sultan was marred in a major controversy. His father Murad II passed away in the month of February of 1451,leaving no clear heir apparent to the throne. With such a nasty situation at hand,Mehmet ascended the throne as Sultan and immediately had his younger brother drowned and killed to eliminate all possible threats to the thrones. This was the beginning of fratricide in the kingdom,as he himself soon formalized the act in his word “Whichever of my sons inherits the sultan’s throne,it behooves him to kill his brothers in the interest of world order”. During his second reign,Mehmet had always voiced his extreme hatred towards the Christians and his ultimate desire to bring an end to its existence.Thereafter,Sultan Mehmet II embarked on a military journey to quell the revolts east of Empire. With this done, the great Jihadist soon turned his gaze towards the lands west of his Empire;Europe. Thus Europe was pivoted head-on against the Ottoman powers in a series of holy wars first of which was the declaration of War against Constantinople, the capital of the waning Byzantine Empire, the seat of Christianity in the east. The conquest of Constantinople to him was very essential to the continuity of his Ottoman Empire. On the 6th of April,1453,with the aid of huge cannons, the Jihadist Sultan laid siege on the seat of Christendom in the East. The Hungarian and Venetian forces were quickly mustered together to defend the city, but that attempt was too late as Mehmet was always a step ahead. Finally, after a series of failed negotiations between Mehmet and Constantine XI Paleologus, the last Byzantine Emperor,Mehmet ordered his Muslim warriors to invade and thoroughly sack the city and rob it off all its priced possessions. The date was 29th of May 1453 and it marked the end of the once great Byzantine Empire. The capture of Constantinople marked a great achievement in the life of Mehmet II and Islam as a whole as it had always been the dream of the rulers of the Muslim world and even the great Prophet Mohammad to conquer the great byzantine capital. His conquest of Constantinople also solidified the position of the Ottoman Empire as the foremost authority within the Muslim world. He instantly changed the name of Constantinople into Istanbul and made it the capital of the Ottoman Empire with the establishment of great mosques. All through his years as Sultan,he terrorized much of Europe and Asia winning great battles and Wars and subjugating land and territories. To him,all non-muslim lands were war territories to be conquered as mandated by the the Prophet Mohammad and the Holy Quran. His exploits during his reign and conquest of Constantinople earned him the name ‘Mehmet the Conqueror’ and also consolidated the power and influence of the Empire which would last another four centuries.

7. Napoleon Bonaparte Born on the Island of Corsica in 1769,Napoleon Bonaparte was the great French Emperor and military strategist of the 19th century. His rise to fame came during the French revolution and the conflicts that ensued during the revolutionary years. During the years of the Revolution,a lot of European power blocs waged series of wars against the French revolutionary government, thus Napoleon,a young ambitious military strategist was charged with the task of commanding a French army against one of their arch rival Austrian who had a much larger army. This neither proved to be an obstacle to Napoleon,as he soundly defeated his rivals on the Italian ground in a series of battles. The year was 1796.The victory also led to the 1797 treaty of “Campo Formio”Which eventually led to territorial expansions for France. The following years proved to be the the turning point in the life of the Ambitious Napoleon. With a raging political tension in France, the young military strategist saw a window of opportunity to grasp power from the Revolutionary government. Thus, the power shift came when Napoleon along with a group of opportunist, overthrew the government in what came to be known as ‘The Coup Of 18 Brumaire’.The directory was then replaced with a troika of consulates with Napoleon as the first consul This happened in the winter of November 1799.Thereafter in 1802,there was a constitutional amendment which made him consul for life. This later paved way for Napoleon to fulfill his ultimate dream two years after when he crowned himself Emperor over France. This done,he then focused on world domination. The following years were categorized as the era of the Napoleonic wars as Napoleon went into series of battles with the Europeans countries and conquered much of Europe. His victory against the Austrians and Russians also marked the end of the Holy Roman Empire.Much of Northern Africa was also conquered as part of his plans for a total world domination.

8. Confederate General Robert E. Lee. The great General of the Virginian Army was born on the 19th of January,1807 in westmoreland County,Virginia to Major General Henry III.Robert E.Lee studied at West-Point and graduated second best in his class thereafter going on to become the Commandant and eventually, one of the greatest icon of the 19th century. His first baptism of fire came in 1846,where he quickly blossomed as a brilliant and tactical commander during the United States’ war against Mexico. The victory against the Mexicans revealed Robert Lee as a hero to the Americans. He came into major limelight during the US Civil war when the breakaway confederate states seceded from the United States due to their unwillingness to put an end to the practice of Slave trade already abolished in the northern part of the country. In 1861,Lee decided to lead the confederates into war.In 1862,the Union forces invaded the confederate lands but unfortunately, they were repelled and driven back by the northern Virginian forces under the command of General Lee.Thereafter,he secured victory after victories to the detriment of the superior Union forces. The climax of it all came when he led the forces of the confederate Army into the Union lands and planed to seize the capital Washington DC in a hope to capture and force Abraham Lincoln to put an end to the War.It was a very audacious plan on the part of the General which at one point might have proven to be successful.Unfortunately, due to his neglect, assumed invincibility and, grave miscalculations,he eventually lost the entire war at the battle of Gettysburg which proved to be the most brutal military confrontation in American recorded history against the total military might of the Union forces who were at the brink of total defeat and humiliation. Nevertheless, during his lifetime,Lee had managed to help his country gain more lands which led to the eventual westward expansion of the United States, thus increasing the power and dominance of the United States in the World.Furthermore,Lee was able to rake-in a lot of accolades and achievements to his name which distinguished him as the most feared and admired military strategist and commander in the history of the United States of America.

In a descending order,Nubia Republic brings you a list of some of the greatest of these Warriors ever known to the race of mankind. |
It was meant to be a mutual sexual interaction between youths of various villages and Kraals. Instituted by the Nguni Tribe, “uku-hlobonga” was crafted to put into ease, any form of sexual tension among the young Nguni members without resulting into pregnancy. “iShaka”, a known intestinal parasite which is a major cause of menstrual irregularities among-st the female specie, led to the greatest doing of a petty chief known as Senzangakhona. Rejected by all,a young lady from the eLangeni Tribe known as Nandy, bared the brunt placed in her womb by this parasite for several months, until sometime around 1789,she eventually gave birth to an illegitimate being who, not only redefined and transformed a mere obscure tribe of barely 1,500 inhabitants into one of the most powerful Nations on the continent of Africa but, also presumably the greatest blood-thirsty Military ruler ever known within of Africa. At the beginning of the 18th century, the Bantu speaking people were overcrowded and overpopulated in their abode, hereby resulting into severe wars aimed at land acquisition. In the ensuring uprising, three great figures emerged namely,Zobhuza chief of the Ngwana, Zwide chief of the Ndwande and, Dingiswayo chief of the Mthethwa. These three exceptional leaders had started building their separate tribal empires and in doing so,series of imminent clashes between these leaders was inevitable, and in the end, the chief of the Ndwande emerged victorious. Zwide, who was an expansionist fellow had series of tricks up his sleeves. He soundly defeated the great Chief Zobhuza and ejected his people the Ngwana tribe out of the country. He declared war on Dingiswayo by killing the husband to his sister. This act infuriated the great Chief Dingiswayo, that he personally led his forces to the doorsteps of the Ndwande nation and ordered his most trusted military commander to do same with his own forces.Unfortunately for Dingiswayo, the military expedition proved to be his greatest undoing and his last act on Earth. He met his Waterloo when he was tricked into captivity at the enemy’s Kraal. He was eventually relieved off his head by Zwide, hereby leaving his Army in disarray and at the mercy of the late chief’s most trusted commander. With this great victory,Zwide was able to form additional alliances and he also destroyed those who failed to cooperate. This new found confidence was cemented in the fact that he was on course for a total domination.Eventually,he turned his eyes on the emerging Zulu nation hoping to put an end to its imminent growth. This he did by placing his son Nomahlanjana in command of warriors numbering 10,000.Unfortunately for Zwide, his triumphant military campaigns was eventually cut short by the emergence of the greatest warrior of them all;Shaka the Zulu ,bastard son of Senzangakhona. Shaka the Zulu,no doubt was one of Africa’s greatest personalities of the 19th century.Among other things,he was a military genius,an acclaimed warrior and, a seasoned strategist cum tactician, who had at his behest a league very intelligent, talented and, ferocious fighters who fought not only to conquer, but to exterminate. He used the resources available to him to mold Zulu into one of the greatest military outfits Africa has ever produced.Born to Senzangakhona,Shaka became a shepherd at an early age of six along with other kids in the clan. Both he and his Mother Nandy were later on chased away from the Kraal by Senzangakhona after she defended her little Shaka after been accused of willingly letting a dog kill one of the flock.Several a time, they wondered around different Kraals where they were met with rejection and faced various forms of humiliations until the finally settled in a Kraal which was close to the dominant power group in the region, the Mthethwa. Due to his intelligence and continuous zeal for excellence,16yrs old Shaka was made the senior herd boy.It was said that during one of his shepherding duties,he alone without help, killed a Leopard which was about to prey on his herd. This single act of courage earned him praises and a cow from the Chief. After the emergence of a new chief Dingiswayo, who quickly built up a federation made up of 50 tribes.Furthermore, the new chief instituted a plan whereby, youths based on their age groups were organized into various military divisions known as “amabutho”. At age 21 ,Shaka who was already 6feet,3 inches tall accompanied with a body which seemed to have been made up of bone and muscle, had distinguished himself as a force to reckon with among his own military age group known as the “izi-cwe”(Bushmen). At this age,Shaka had developed a new type of tactic and strategy towards warfare due to the fact that most of what they were been thought then regarding affairs of military were obsolete and a mere waste of precious time on the battlefield.Over the next few years of his successful military career,Shaka eventually was made the commander-in-chief by Dingiswayo. His major breakthroughs came firstly when his Father died. Before his death Senzangakhona had been reconciled back on terms with his estranged son and had promised to make Shaka his heir, unfortunately before his death, his eighth wive persuaded him into making her own child heir. Enraged by this,Shaka through the permission of Dingiswayo and by brute force of Arms, embarked on a campaign against the imposter and usurped him and succeeded his late Father. His second breakthrough was probably the greatest of all. After the death of the great chief Dingiswayo, the shattered Mthethwa Army rallied around Shaka as they saw in him their only hope. His first success came when his force of just 4,000 soldiers soundly defeated the 10,000 Ndwande warriors, which led to the death of their commander Nomahlanjana along with 4 of his siblings. They were the Sons of Zwide. Zwide, licking his wounds and counting cost at this point in time, vowed to revenge his five lost sons, and by this act,he assembled together another force of 18,000 warriors under the command of a seasoned military veteran called Soshangane. The year was 1819 and another military expedition was on course to destroy the new Zulu nation along with its revered leader. Having won the first war against the Ndwande nation,Shaka won over the confidence of the Mthethwa and other smaller nations which now rallied to Shaka hereby enlarging his forces and domain. He now had an army in the range of 10,000.A force which was still outnumbered by his enemies.Nevertheless, the military tactics and strategies of Shaka along with his fiercely loyal and disciplined Army totally routed and dismantled the enemy who eventually fled .His battle formation had proved very potent and fatal against the imagination of the enemy commander Soshangane. He chased the fleeing warriors to their doorsteps where he completely devastated the whole of the Mthethwa nation and rendered them desolate. He routed Zwide and his forces and incorporated his kingdom and all the areas Zwide had conquered into his ever expanding vast empire which ultimately consolidated his position as the undisputed ruler of his new dreaded Zulu Kingdom. From that time onward,Shaka’s Army marched on the surrounding lands and due to his military modus operandi, his Army left in their wake ,rotting corpse, burnt huts, and lands filled with a terrible form of devastation second to non in Africa .His rule was viscous and he eliminated any form of cowardice from his Army by putting to death anybody found to posses traits of weakness. He was the African version of the Mongolian Nomadic emperor Genghis Khan who both shared traits of savagery. Both are responsible for waging total warfare on their enemies and in some sense depopulated the Earth with millions dying during their respective terrifying reign. Unfortunately, the death of his mother marked the beginning of his drift into insanity.Shaka had always been paranoid which was one of the reasons why he never took a legitimate wife or had a heir of his own.His fear was that his Sons might one day revolt against and eliminate him.Even his Concubines were not speared from this conspiracy theory of his hence,on suspicion of pregnancy from any of them attracts the penalty of instant death. On the death of his Mother,Shaka massacred thousands of his people so their families could mourn along with him. Clearly a Mad King now,Shaka was later assassinated by his half-brother Dingawe on fear of the safety of the continuity of his own life.He also assassinated all the loyalist of Shaka who he thought might oppose him before becoming the new Ruler of the Zulu Nation.Shaka was responsible for the death of over 2 million people only from war campaigns excluding other forms of death melted out to people. His reign was a catalog of Carnage and wanton savagery. To sum it all up,the great King Shaka’s successes are attributed to his military cum political innovations. He was a military genius, whose tactics were reminiscence of that of the great ancient General Hannibal of Carthage who took the battle to the doorsteps of Rome and through ingenuity, won series of successive bloody battles even when greatly outnumbered by the legions of the Republic of Rome..His achievements were very significant in the sense that he single-handedly transformed the young men in the regions in the Army into a standing Army.He also rejected the throwing of spears on the battlefield instead,he armed his soldiers with a short-handled assegai, and forbade them on point of death not to leave them on the battlefield. This was a man who introduced the concept of total War on his enemies. He also excelled in the area of politics as well as social life during his sane days as he was known to have distributed lands to those who had been yearning for lands. Shaka might have been an unpredictable bloodthirsty sycophant during his terrifying 10year reign of total terror, but he brought a minority tribe of mainly herdsmen out of obscurity into a limelight of continental stardom deserving of a worthy super power which remained unmatched and unrivaled up till the British intervention during the scramble for and partition of Africa. He is indeed,a true African legend. http://www.nubiarepublic.com/2019/04/african-legendsshaka.html

http://www.nubiarepublic.com/2019/04/the-troika.html When an individual assumes sole power and control of a state,he is known as a dictator nevertheless, when power is mutually shared between a party or group of three,it is usually called a “Triumvirate” or a “Troika”.We have several examples of such in history such as the first and second Triumvirate during the republic days of Rome. The Palace coup of 1975 in Nigeria came with a lot of consequences, which included the depletion of moral standards and discipline within the Armed Forces of the country. However, the country witnessed a shift from the conventional scheme of power, which saw to the split of power between three powerful individuals. With General Yakubu Gowon ousted as the Head of State,it was down to the coup plotters to choose another military leader.Their choice of ruler was Brigadier Murtala Mohammed,a popular and very powerful Military officer from the Northern extraction. To make sure he does not get too blinded by power and perpetuate himself there,he was mandated to share power with two other Military officers. It is important to note that this was not the traditional practice of Nigeria under military regimes,as we had witnessed a sole dictator with maximum power and control presided over the country as seen during the times of Aguiyi Ironsi and Yakubu Gowon. Conversely,it is pertinent we dig into these individuals who not only usurped and took upon themselves power and control, but had an agreement on how to share and dispatch power among themselves. They were the first ever recorded Troika in Nigeria. 1.BRIGADIER MURTALA RAMAT MOHAMMED First on our list also doubles as the official leader of the Troika.Murtala Mohammed was born on the 8th of November,1938 in Kano State, northern region of Nigeria. He received his primary education at Cikin Gida and Gidan Makama respectively and then went on to obtain his secondary education certificate at the prestigious Balewa college in the year 1957.Also,like some of his colleagues in the military,he was traine3d at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst as a cadet officer. Prior to ascending the seat of the Nigerian power,he participated in the counter coup that saw to the demise of top military officers of south-eastern extract including that of General Aguiyi Ironsi, the former Nigerian Military Head of State. This was as a result of the coup of 1966 which saw to the deaths of powerful Northern leaders such as the Prime Minister Sir Tafawa Balewa and the great Sardauna of Sokoto Alhaji Sir Ahmadu Bello. This eventually led to the Nigerian Biafra Civil War that took place between 1967 to 1970. Conversely,at the dawn of the Nigerian Civil War,he was tasked with leading the elements of the 2nd Infantry Division, which he was also made the pioneer General Officer commanding. Eventually, the Military men got bored of the antics of General Yakubu Gowon and decided to relieve him off his duties as the Nigerian Head of State through a palace coup, thus the introduction of Murtala Mohammed as the new Head of State. 2.GENERAL THEOPHILUS DANJUMA The next person on our list is no other than than millionaire businessman and chairman of SAPETRO,Rtd General Theophilus Danjuma.Danjuma was born on the 9th of December,1938 in Takun,Taraba of northern Nigeria. He started his education at St Bartholomew’s Primary School, which was situated in Wusasa and later obtained his secondary education at the Benue Provincial Secondary School situated at Katsina-Ala.He later enrolled into the Nigerian Army and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. Furthermore,he was also a key perpetrator of the 1966 counter-coup that saw to the death of several military officers of South-Eastern extraction. He also played a very active role during the Nigerian Civil War which took place between the year 1967-1970. During the ousting of Yakubu Gowon,he was seen as a perfect candidate to share power alongside two other military officers, hence he was picked as one of the Troika. 2.GENERAL OLUSEGUN OBASANJO Born on the 5th of March,1937 in Abeokuta which is located at the South-Western part of Nigeria,Olusegun Aremu Obasanjo went on to become the most successful member of the legendary Troika and probably the most significant ruler and President in the history of Nigeria.Obasanjo started his early education at the Saint David Ebenezer School,Ibogun and, from 1952-1957,he attained his secondary education at the Baptist Boys High School,Abeokuta. He eventually lost his parents before the Age of 22 and became an orphan. Obasanjo enrolled into the Nigerian Army in 1958,and was sent to the Mons officers Cadet School situated in Aldershot,England, and was later commissioned into the Army with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in year 1959.He later went on to take part in many military engagements which included serving in the Nigerian contingent of the United Nations Forces in the Congo in the year 1960. Furthermore,he later went on to replace the dreaded Benjamin “Black Scorpion” Adekunle as the General Officer Commanding of the 3 Marine Commando Division(3MCDS),which later under his command, captured the heartland of Biafra, thus bringing an end to the bloody Nigerian/Biafra Civil War. After the fall of the Gowon administration,he was also seen as a favorite candidate for one of the three positions of the Troika, which he eventually became part of.Nevertheless, after the unfortunately assassination of Murtala Mohammed during a failed coup attempt,Obasanjo took his place as Head of State, with Shehu Musa Yar’Adua replacing the late Murtala Mohammed Yar as the third member of the Troika. http://www.nubiarepublic.com/2019/04/the-troika.html

http://www.nubiarepublic.com/2019/04/african-legendspharaoh-taharqa.html Of all great Warriors and rulers to have walked the ancient world, many have had the priviledge to have surfaced from great households and powerful nations, some rose from humble beginnings and relatively obscure micro nations, albeit, they were great, mighty and, powerful with acts and deeds worthy of remembrance.Nevertheless, our person of interest was a warrior king whose one heroic deed out of his numerous ones stood out to be his greatest, not just to him and his race, but to the people by which the world owe the existence of two powerful religions;Judaism and Christianity. Millenniums ago,the 24th dynasty of the Egyptian ruler-ship came to its end and eventually paved way for the 25th dynasty of ancient Egypt which marked the reigns of the black Kushite Pharaohs from the lands of Nubia which is modern day Sudan and South Sudan.Amongst the Nubian Pharaohs who ruled over Egypt, perhaps one stood out to be the undisputed greatest whose reign sparked into flames a civilization that has stood the test of time and is still with us today. Jerusalem, the city of the great King David, the city of the temple of Solomon, pride of the people of Israel,a conduit of two great religions and,a land of dispute between two modern nations.Today,it serves not only as a pilgrim site, but also a tourist site which plays host to millions of Pilgrims and tourist across the globe every year with majority of these bulk coming from the Southern American continent and the sub-Saharan region of Africa. But do these Africans truly know that there was once a time when the safety and hope of the holy city of Jerusalem fell on the shoulders of a great king of black origin. He was the great Nubian Pharaoh Taharqa from the 25th Egyptian dynasty, but who was this great king? Born to the great Nubian Pharaoh and Kushite King Piye, who was the first ruler of the Ancient Egyptian 25th dynasty,Taharqa blossomed at an early age as he witnessed his Kushite kingdom spread its tentacles into the ancient Egyptian kingdom and conquered lands after lands. After the reign and death of his father Pharaoh Piye, his uncle,Shabaka took over the mantle of power, thus becoming the second Nubian Pharaoh of Ancient Egypt. It was during the reign of Pharaoh Shabaka that young Taharqa would come into prominence. At the tender age of 20,Taharqa witnessed the final conquest of Egypt as lower Egypt fell to the Nubian warriors thus, bringing about the unification of both lower and upper Egypt under the single ruler-ship of Shabaka. With the steady growth of Egypt under the Nubian Pharaoh,Taharqa assumed control of the Armed Forces which automatically placed him at the head of the military outfit of the whole of Egypt.Nevertheless, trouble was brewing in the Middle East and Asia Minor, and it was from Sennacherib, the vicious Assyrian ruler, grandfather to one of the greatest warrior kings of the ancient world;Ashurbanipal the great. With the growing power of both Kingdoms,an imminent clash was inevitable. A great military strategist,Taharqa thought it wise to battle the Assyrians far away from Egypt thus,he set out with his Army and crossed the Sinai into Middle East were Sennacherib’s terror reigned supreme. This period also coincided with the reign of king Hezekiah, king of Judah. At such a time, much of the Hebrew territories had already been conquered by the Assyrian forces.Israel had fallen and its people taken captive leaving Judah as the only standing city under the watchful eyes of Hezekiah. With most of the lands of Judah conquered with the exemption of the capital city Jerusalem,Hezekiah acknowledging the superiority of the Assyrians, decided to barricade and block-out all intruders from his city while waiting for a possible negotiation with the Assyrian ruler. Furthermore, the Bible seems to have acknowledged and recorded this epic saga as seen in the books of second Kings 19;8-9 and Isiah 37;8-9.The book of Second Kings(19;9-10) further read thus;now Sennacherib received a report that Tirhakah(Taharqa),the King of Cush, was marching out to fight against him.So he again sent messengers to Hezekiah with this word:”Say to Hezekiah king of Judah:Do not let the god you depend on deceive you when he says,’Jerusalem will not be given in to the hands of the king of Assyria’”.The relevance of these Biblical references gives credence to the fact that indeed there was an actual battle between the Nubian/Egyptian forces against the Assyrians. The epic confrontation between these two great civilizations played-out with Taharqa and the combined Nubian/Egyptian forces coming out victorious, thus routing and sending Sennacherib and his Assyrian forces back to the ancient city of Nineveh. This victory may have only served as a temporary setback for the Assyrian but,the significance of its timing and the scenario surrounding the beneficiaries mainly the Israelite, proved to be more of an extinction-saver. Conversely, the great warrior eventually succeeded his Uncle Shabaka as king and 4th Pharaoh of the Nubian dynasty.Though, his time as Pharaoh of Egypt was short-lived,he managed to maintain the peace in both the lands of Kush and Egypt which was brought about by the previous campaigns of his father Pharaoh Piye and his uncle Pharaoh Shabaka.Wealth was also not a problem to him as it was recorded to have built new temples and, even rebuilt the fallen and desolate ones.He also erected the largest Pyramid in the Napatan region. Sadly, this glorious chapter of the Nubian ruler was about to be closed forever. The Assyrian forces under Esarhaddon, son and successor of Sennacherib, this time, better equipped and prepared crossed the Sinai desert and began an invasion of Egypt in the year 677 BC,and by 671 BC,the city of Memphis had fallen to Esarhaddon along with several members of Pharaoh Taharqa’s family.Taharqa then fled into his ancestral land of Nubia. Eventually, the end finally came when Taharqa, the great Nubia Pharaoh, met his match on the battlefield. The great Ashurbanipal,an equally formidable and seasoned warrior, son and successor of Esarhaddon in 664 BC,defeated Taharqa thus ending the Nubian dynasty in Egypt.Taharqa died in Thebes where he fled to and was later buried in Nuri in Northern Sudan. He was succeeded by his son Tantamani as King of Kush. Nevertheless, one cannot but over emphasis the role of Taharqa in modern day history and religion. In the course of saving his people and kingdom at the battle front against the Assyrians,he had also unknowingly saved king Hezekiah and the children of Israel from an imminent apocalypse, considering the fact that the then king Sennacherib was a viscous and known destroyer of civilizations. For this very act,he had rescued a religion, which was still in its early stages of transfiguration into a more super religion;a religion which gave birth to Christendom and arguably Islam. This feat, Taharqa was able to achieve at the age of only Twenty. Indeed,he was not only a skilled warrior and benevolent ruler,he was perhaps, the greatest black ruler of African origin the world has ever seen. http://www.nubiarepublic.com/2019/04/african-legendspharaoh-taharqa.html cc:Lalasticlala

Andrez123:Look at you.Better dont deceive yourself.I also had this your your notion.Right now,i'm in a relationship with a lady who doesn't know how to prepare the core yoruba traditional meals such as amala, semo, wheat etc apart from rice and spaghetti.Worst of all, she's also a Yoruba corp member like me and,in her mid 20s.Generally,i think its just sheer laziness on their part. Most of them with mobile devices won'teven view some Youtube tutorials on cooking but, wont relent to waste their data on instagram and snapchat. It's not as if some of them even have something to compesate their deficiencies as you still discover majority are still very shallow in thoughts and knowledge. That her good character you pointed out wont count when the time comes because,i dont see the use of a good character, when you cant cook, have no knowledge of the world or could arrive at very intuitive and logical conclusions in times that matter. NaijaRoyalty: Ad hominem: Latin for "to the man." An arguer who uses ad hominems attacks the person instead of the argument. Whenever an arguer cannot defend his position with evidence, facts or reason, he or she may resort to attacking an opponent either through: labelling, straw man arguments, name calling, offensive remarks and anger Post No Bill... |
Definitely, APC will come out on air through Lai Mohammed or, the tabloids through Garba Shehu, with their own counter list of corrupt PDP personnels and, this would go on until you discover that both lists contains politicians who were once in the PDP or APC.This is the current dillema we face now as a country no thanks to the urchins of Butiku. I really don't blame them though, if not for the millions of shortchanged daft northerners, who fuel their ego. Only if the northerners where half as smart as their southern counterparts then,Buhari,Atiku,Dambazau,Daura, etc won't even be worthy of being office assistants in a struggling sachet water company. It's a pity though, that unlike every other earthling striving to unravel their purpose in this vast Universe, our northern sheeples still thinks the World begins and ends with BuTiku. Imagine, they have no value at all, be it industrial, financial, economic, technological, mechanical, etc.Their only value is the electoral one, that's why they were kept in perpetual darkness and ignorance. I just don't like it when PDP/APC start carving out the North among themselves as their stronghold for sure votes. It makes it all look like a sort of dejavu of the European scramble and partition for African States Post No Bill |

The development of any nation is destined to borne out of the steel and rail road industry. We saw how railroad boomed the age of industrialization in Britain and, how steel revolutionized the United States. The rail road by Cornelius Vanderbilt was used to transport the oil from Rockerfella. We saw how Andrew Carnegie's steel revolutionized rhe American way of life foe good eg Housing, Auto industry, armaments, etc. We missed our shot to industrialization during the 80s, about the same time China sprang into its industrial age. Assuming the Ajaokuta steel rolling industry had taking of then, we should basically be on par with China now. Also, we failed ro capitalize on one of rhe greatest legacies the British ever gifted Nigeria ; the rail road. Just imagine Nigeria with a functional steel and rail industry ; there would be no reason why Nigeria won't be producing its own Automobiles of any kind, i see no reason why our military won't be developing arms and ammunitions of any kind they deem fit, i see no reason why we won't be building super structures based on t the availability of steel like seen in the US, eg Trump Towers and some other sky scrappers,i see no reason why our Train and railways system wont be among the best in Africa, transportation of goods, lives and, property would have been top notch.. I belive our failure boils down to the discovery of oil coupled with the vicious cycle of megalomaniacs that had once ruled this country at one time in its history. Such an uncalled for backwardness has been the fate of Nigeria and its people. We don't need any Jesus/Mohammed(SAW)/Buddha Pastors/Prophets/Bishops/imams/alfas/sheikh or any democratically elected Baron from the APC/PDP cartels before we achieve such. The modus operandi of Cartels have been the same all over the world from the days of Al Capone and Pablo Escobar (SAW) ;which has been to always protect fiercely, the interest of its leaders and members regardless of whose Ox is gored and, woukd ruthlessly deal with any usurper who tends to take rheir leaving away from them.. This includes the religious cartels. Unfortunately the Nigerian political parties have been studying extensively the doings and operations of the Medellin Cartel. What we need now is a Mao Zedong + Che Guivera +Stalin all on steroids to purge this nation off all these excess baggages of rubbish. If we can't achieve a nationwide revolution, i guess we can achieve a regional revolution which shouldn't be that hard. If the South East under Kanu, the South West under Aare Ona Kankanfo Gani Adam or any other revolutionary, South South under a Tompolo or Asari Dokubo and, Middle Belt under a fierce and enlightened leader can all reach an agreement to unilaterally agree on a regional simultaneously conducted revolutionized then, the already weak Nigerian Army would be stretched to thin to fight on 4 different fronts coupled with the fact that majority of the Southern soldiers would rather die for their ancestral regions of origin rather than for the elusive elusive unity of Nigeria. Some might argue with my proposition as a failure bound one, due to the fact that we have more docile and naive youths, who've have willingly sacrificed intellectualism on the altar of entertainment and other disastrous atrocities but, let left to me, id rather fo into the villages to recruit and train Guerilla fighters then assemble the enlightened youths who are not on a dosage of Wizkid and davido to spread the gospel of the revolution and sensitize the populace on the need for it. My New Year wish is for us Nigerians to do the unthinkable. After all, Virgil the Aenid once said ;"fortune favors the bold" Post No Bill |
Something is wrong somewhere.. The OP is also the alleged beauty queen though, i care not about the pageantry, my main concern is how she successfully hacked Nairaland without the knowledge of Seun. To the OP; keep it up and you just might end up being the female version of his Emperor Ade Ademusiwa. I hope you dont go down that lane. Post No Bill...

johndan103: Hmm..revolution dear comrade,a unified revolution would not work in this current setting..Only a regional revolution can suffice effectively .. That was what Professor Banjo(younger bro to the late coup plotter Major Banjo) did in the 90s,which was almost actualized if not for the then president of Benin Republic, who impounded some of the weapons and arrested the revolutionaries, before informing Abacha. The plan was to pull the Yoruba and Itshekiri nations out of Nigeria. You do a little research on it . Post No Bill. |

BrownRoofRep:Seriously, i don't understand you Igbos. For me, i have tried been an observer from every angle, which includes that of a skeptic/rationalist and,a Critic. Truth must be told;you guys don't know what you want! You scream that you're being marginalized hence, your agitation for Biafra yet, you still claim to hold dominance on key sectors of the country. Firstly, i personally, as a hardcore Yoruba boy, want you to get your Biafra via any means (War, diplomacy/peace treaty or, through a national conference) at your disposal, but you still claim to own the bulk of Lagos and other businesses across the country. Now the question is ;if you eventually get this "independence" of yours, what would happen to all those millions of properties and businesses in Lagos and Nigeria at large? Will you uproot the" no man's land" and other enterprises away from their original abode to the Great Biafra land and its environs?? The problem is that you people are in apathy with each other. There's no oneness and accordance among your ethnic group regarding your struggles for the actualization of a sovereign state. You want to have a Biafra yet, you also want to become the President of the country you so much detest to the level of wanting to break away. Tell me, how on Earth is that plausible? You can't kill two birds with a single stone. You have to aim at one perfectly, with the hope of killing or immobilizing that single bird. So which do you want ;the Aso Rock throne or, Biafra? If the former is your answer, then rally round a single candidate under the Umbrella of APGA and, also try to build political bridges across other regions capable of actualizing your ambitions and, if the latter is your choice, then you have to seriously reason on how to create a South Eastern fellowship which includes your Governors, Senators, Federal Representatives, state representatives, commissioners, civil servants, influential personalities, religious leaders and, socialites both home and in the diaspora. Sit down and talk, develop a blueprint, chart your course regarding Biafra and, set in motion, the wheels of disintegration. As simple as that. Nairaland rants and tantrums won't give you Biafra and won't make Lagos a "no man's land" but, it would only massage your ego for a couple of minutes. Post No Bill |

precadel:.. Wow! I also just redeployed from Delta state. I'm also a member of the NYSC Delta Band. Have you started your registration, cos when we were at the NYSC Secretariat last week Wednesday, we were told to only submit our redeployment letter, that we would be contacted soon. That was the last we heard from them. I think maybe it's because of the festive break.. Post No Bill |

Maybe when churches and Mosques start paying taxes, then we may then conclude that it indeed has impact in the economy of Nigeria. As for now, a common civil servant or kiosk owner on the street still has more input and impact on our economy than the church because he/she pays his/her tax to the government. That's what we call civic responsibility. Of course, i don't expect anybody to understand this since we're all creatures of different schools of thought hence, our diverse thinking when it comes to matters of Religion and the State.
