The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Kwara, Garba Madami, has described the Ekiti/Isin/Oke-Ero and Irepodun federal constituency bye-election peaceful.
Madami said this on Saturday in Omu-Aran, the headquarters of Irepodun Local Government area of the state while speaking with newsmen.
He said Nigerians should emulate the people of the constituency because of the way they conducted themselves for the election on Saturday.
“I am very happy with the turn out of voters and the peaceful way the people here have conducted themselves.
“This is how election should be. This is the spirit of election and I want Kwarans to keep this up and Nigerians should emulate them,” Madami said.
He said the reports he has received are positive but for some places where there were card reader hitches which were resolved in the due course.
Despite rumours in some quarters of vote buying, Madami denied there was anything like that. In any case, he said, he has not received any news of such.
He urged Nigerians with defaced cards to approach his office for a replacement as they may have problems voting.
Madami called on those who are yet to collect their Permanent Voter Cards to come for them as they have until first week of February to collect them. http://dailypost.ng/2018/11/17/inec-speaks-kwara-bye-election/https://dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/INEC-3.pngLalasticlala Mynd44 |

Smarting from the fallout of last primaries, Cross River Governor Ben Ayade, has described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a party that is unfair with no conscience.
Ayade, who was bitter over the disqualification of his friend, Mr. Chris Agara from the Cross River Central senatorial primaries by the PDP opened up on the primaries for the first time at a recent launch of the State Microfinance Bank in Calabar.
Ayade said: “I have spent more money than any other candidate in the state. PDP is a party that is so unfair and has got no conscience. A man came ready for election and you take out his name from the ballot paper.
“You take out his name because you know he is too powerful. When people use God’s given opportunities to do injustice, injustice would wait for them. So for my brother, I asked you to be strong and abide in the faith of God, because it is God’s will. But for those who the devil has used to stop the instrumentality, challenge and direction of God at the fullness of time, Holy Ghost would visit them with their own mighty fire”.
Ayade who was excited that Agara did not defect to another despite pressure said, “let us shame the devil. Let us shame the enemies. Let us shame all those who thought that they can put a fight between two brothers. We have conquered. We are the richest Cross Riverians in the oil and gas industry.
Our politics has no business with our brotherhood. My brother you are welcome.
“This is a brother indeed. He is the only brother that can also give his right eye to protect me. It is my brother that even in pains, with all enemies gathered in his house. Instead of me to hurt my brother, I would rather not be in politics. This is politics with ethics.
“This is true brotherhood. My brother who has said, he would rather forget politics and stand by his brother. But you will be shocked that people we have literally helped in the days of their poverty, they connived to conspire and carry rumours and stories to destroy brotherhood of over 30 years.”

Politics › Shehui Sanni Reacts To Atiku's Plan To Sell 90% Of NNPC If Elected by midolian(op): 11:29am On Nov 17, 2018 |

The lawmaker representing Kaduna Central district at the National Assembly has described the promise to sell off part of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, as a dangerous proposal.
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku had in an interview during the week vowed to sell off 90% of the corporation.
The former Vice-President, said the NNPC was supposed to have become more profitable by now, adding that he will retain only 10%.
But reacting, Senator Sani tweeted on Saturday morning, “Selling 90% of the NNPC as a campaign promise is being brutally frank and honest.
“But its a condemnable proposal and a dangerous intention.
“Auctioning the country has not helped in the past and will not help in the future.” http://dailypost.ng/2018/11/17/2019-presidency-shehu-sani-reveals-one-atikus-dangerous-intention/ |
Politics › I’ll Sell 90% Of NNPC If Elected, Atiku Vows by midolian(op): 7:05pm On Nov 16, 2018 |
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, says he will sell the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and retain just 10 per cent of the company for the Federal Government.
Atiku said this in an interview with The African Report, a monthly publication.
Atiku, who presided over the National Council on Privatisation during his tenure as vice-president, said the NNPC was supposed to have become more profitable by now.
On whether he would sell NNPC and keep 10 per cent shares for the government, he said, “Yes, I would want to go ahead. There is no doubt about that. The government should have a very minor shareholding. Nigeria is in dire need of funds to develop its infrastructure and other sectors of the economy.”
The PDP presidential candidate said Nigeria ought to have been producing far more than two million barrels of oil per day.
Speaking further on the privatisation of the nation’s oil company, he said, “Without a stable regulatory framework, the oil and gas companies will find it difficult to invest more in Nigeria.
“At the time, we pushed for the passage of the new law. We expected that Nigeria would be able to export up to four million barrels per day, but here we are, still at less than two million barrels per day.” https://punchng.com/ill-sell-90-of-nnpc-if-elected-atiku-vows/ |

ON Saturday November 17, a couple of by-elections to fill vacant parliamentary seats will hold across some Nigerian states.
That includes Kwara State which recently lost a member of the House of Representatives representing Oke-Ero/Isin/Ekiti/Irepodun Federal Constituency, Funke Adedoyin who was elected as a first-time lawmaker on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in 2015 amid allegations of rigging. In line with the relevant laws, however, an election to fill her seat is scheduled to hold this Saturday.
https://www.vanguardngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Saraki-ahmed.png President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki and Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed
Notwithstanding Nigeria’s plethora political parties, analysts have said that the election is basically a two-horse race between the state’s ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the mega opposition party All Progressives Congress, APC.
While the PDP is fielding Saheed Alatise, a businessman, for the election, the APC is putting forward Abdulraheem Tunji Olawuyi (Ajulo), another businessman. Both men are incidentally from Omu-Aran, a hugely populated town in Irepodun local government area of the state.
But this election would neither be determined by votes from Omu-Aran alone nor by just the calibre of the candidates — even though these two factors will amply come into play too. All factors considered, APC seems to hold the ace in an election that means so much for the two political parties.
For one, locals said Ajulo has become a household name in that axis of the state, especially in Omu-Aran, having been on the ballot papers for at least twice since he joined party politics in 2011. As candidate of the defunct ACN, he came second in the House of Assembly race. He has remained in the party since then, gradually building political machinery in the area. In what attests to his popularity, Ajulo is incidentally the candidate of the APC in the 2019 House of Representatives ballot in the area — the ticket he had clinched before the sudden death of Ms Adedoyin.
The same cannot be said of Alatise who party insiders said has just joined politics late 2017. Besides, Alatise is considered a stop-gap candidate meant to split the Omu-Aran votes because the PDP is fielding another candidate for the same House of Representatives poll in the 2019 poll. Records from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) indicated that the PDP’s candidate for the February poll is Dare Bankole who is from Arandun, another town in Irepodun.
Hurriedly picked by the Bukola Saraki-led PDP, the choice of Alatise is strategic as it is meant to split the votes from Omu-Aran and Irepodun as a whole. And the reasons are not far-fetched. The Saraki brand is not popular in the other three local government areas of Isin, Ekiti and Oke Ero which, together with Irepodun, form the federal constituency. The party lost in Isin, Ekiti and Oke-Ero in the 2015 election and there is nothing to suggest that the ratings of the political dynasty have improved — especially after the anti-Saraki sentiments that followed the recent Offa armed robbery in which over 30 innocent citizens were murdered in cold blood.
Even though Alatise comes from a town with a very good voting strength, just like his rival Ajulo, his major albatross might be the perception that he represents the Saraki political dynasty that analysts say is becoming increasingly unpopular with the masses there.
That perception is not helped by the fact that his own people do not see his candidature as ‘genuine’ since the town had earlier lost the main ticket to Arandun. It may be natural for the people of Omu-Aran to consider a victory for Ajulo as a sure bet to retain the seat in 2019 since the same person would be flying the ticket of the APC. This is because the tenure of whoever wins this poll lapses next year June when a new National Assembly will be inaugurated.
But that is not all. Governor Abdulfatahi Ahmed has been leading the campaign for Alatise. It remains to be seen whether this will be a boost for the candidate, given the perception in most parts of Kwara South — genuine or otherwise — that their eight years in Kwara Government House was a near waste of their slot.
Those who hold this view insist that Ahmed’s tenure brought nothing significantly good to the people of Kwara South. Perhaps nothing confirms this belief more than the fact that most of the Igbomina top shots who backed Ahmed’s candidature and grudgingly joined the Saraki dynasty on the ground that it was their turn to govern Kwara have since left the camp. A good example here is the Cornelius Adebayo’s camp and Engineer Wole Oke’s group who had championed the Ahmed’s candidature.
Another factor that would determine the outcome of this election is the state of the APC in Kwara. So far, the party is rock solid in Kwara South where all the gladiators and tendencies have long queued behind the candidature of AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the governorship candidate of the party. This unity would no doubt embolden the APC to attempt to crush the Saraki’s machine in the election because it is clearly a litmus test for both the APC coalition and the Saraki-led PDP.
Now, there is no underestimating the role money will play in this crucial poll. Notwithstanding the efforts by the INEC and security agencies to curb vote-buying, money will definitely play a role in a standalone election like the one under consideration. So the outcome might favour the party that spends more.
Sarakites may have the edge here since they control government machineries at the state level but there is no telling how far the APC — which is the ruling party at the centre — will go to want to decimate the Saraki political machine once and for all. So much has been said about clipping the wing of Bukola Saraki. The outcome of this crucial ballot may well tell if the APC establishment and Kwara opposition truly means business. May the best man emerge as the winner. *Alade writes from Omu-Aran, Kwara State. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/11/how-kwara-by-election-would-be-won-and-lost/Lalasticlala Mynd44 |

Contrary to his assertion, many international airports around the world only allow travelers (having their passport on them) to enter the airport departure lounge. It’s part of security measures. That he was denied entry was in order and since he showed desperation to go in, trust our immigration guys to want him to pay. How’s that Buhari’s problem?
He also rants about the claim that his sister’s passport was said to be fake. How’s this Buhari’s doing?
And when Ethiopian Airline asks his sister to pay N120k for missing her flight, na Buhari make her miss the flight?
As bad as his experience was, it’s hardly different from what most of us experience almost every time we pass through the MMIA. He obviously was disappointed his “fame and celebrity status” didn’t spare him the “normal” treatment we all experience from time to time.

Politics › 850 PDP, PRP Members Defect To APC In Zaria by midolian(op): 2:21pm On Nov 11, 2018 |
No fewer than 850 members of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and People’s Redemption Party (PRP) have defected to the All Progressives Party (APC) in Zaria LGAn of Kaduna State. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defectors included the PRP Youth Leader in Zaria, Mr Ibrahim Hassan-Pako, and a prominent PDP member, Hajiya Sa’adiya Mohammed-Mai-Yanga.
Receiving the defectors at Tudun Wada Ward in Zaria on Saturday, the APC Chairman in the LGA, Alhaji Aliyu Idris-Ibrahim, assured the defectors that they would be treated fairly.
He urged the new members to feel at home and be supportive to ensure success of the party in 2019.
Idris-Ibrahim said that active support of the defectors in the general elections would be critical to APC victory.
He said that APC members in the council area were determined to convince more Nigerians to support President Muhammadu Buhari and Gov. Nasiru el-Rufa’I’s re-election bid because of their good performances.
“This is one of the reasons that our leaders embarked on door-to-door sensitisation of people which culminated into what we are witnessing today, receiving over 850 defectors from different political parties.
“It is our hope that more will join the train very soon, and we are going to assist them with the necessary support,” said.
The APC Zone One Chairman, Alhaji Hussaini Central-Store, expressed satisfaction at the defection.
“I want to assure you that, as we receive you today, we are all equal; you are entitled to all rights and privileges as any other member of the party.
“All of you will receive your membership cards this week to formally make you bonafide members of the party.
“ I want to use this medium to call on members of the electorate to elect APC candidates at all levels,’’ he said.
Earlier, the APC Chairman, Tudun Wada Ward, Alhaji Alhassan Mohammed-Qassim, described the occasion as historic, and encouraged the defectors to be active members of the party.
He urged them to exhibit a high sense of responsibility, loyalty and commitment toward ensuring the success of the party in the 2019 General Elections
Speaking on behalf of all the defectors, Hassan-Pako said they were moved by the good leadership of APC.
He called on the party’s leadership at all levels of governance to maintain good leadership. https://m.guardian.ng/politics/850-pdp-prp-members-defect-to-apc-in-zaria/https://guardian.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Secondus-640x360.jpg |
