Politics2023: Think Well Before You Resign, Shehu Sani Advises Political Appointees by mighty2(op): 12:48pm On Apr 03, 2022
A former federal lawmaker, Shehu Sani, Sunday, urged political appointees and others planning to resign from their position in line with the Electoral Act 2022 and contest for elective offices to think well before handing over their resignation letters.
Those affected by section 84(12) of the Electoral Act 2022 are ministers, commissioners, and aides to governors among other political appointees.
The section states as follows: “No political appointed at any level shall be a voting delegate or be voted for at the convention or congress of any political party for the purpose of the nomination of candidates for any election.”
In accordance with the section, some governors had issued circulars calling on their appointees who had political ambitions to resign before March 30.
But reacting to the recent provision of the Electoral Act in a tweet on his Twitter handle on Sunday, Sani who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, warned appointees seeking political offices to rethink their position.
He tweeted, “Before you resign from your appointment or position to jump into the murky, treacherous & shark-infested waters of politics & contest elections, think twice & look left, right & deeper. And know that you are leaving what you have for what you are not sure at where you don’t know.”

PoliticsAPC Youths, Women In 19 Northern States Adopt Tinubu As Consensus Candidate by mighty2(op): 1:17pm On Apr 02, 2022
Millions of women and youths from across the nineteen Northern states on Friday marched on the Presidential Villa to demand the adoption of All Progressives Congress national leader, Bola Tinubu, as the consensus candidate of the party in the 2023 Presidential Election.

They said Tinubu is the only person fit and capable among all aspirants who have so far declared their intention to turn around the economy of the country.

The group said after extensive deliberations and consultations, the APC Youth and Women in the 19 Northern states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have elected to adopt the former Lagos State governor as the consensus presidential candidate of the APC in the 2023 general elections.

Led by Patriot Yakubu Dauda, they said the APC Youth and Women in the 19 Northern States of the federation have been actively involved in the activities of the party through several ways that have positioned the party firmly in the hearts of the people.

He said: “We wish to inform Mr President that we have also been actively mobilising support for the party at the grassroots levels across the 19 northern states in preparation for the 2023 general elections.
“The response of the people has been encouraging.

We wish to use this medium to inform Mr President that the APC as a party, has continued to have a stronghold amongst the people who have been beneficial to the various social security initiatives implemented across the country in critical sectors, such as agriculture, education and health.

“Mr President, in the course of our daily engagements across the northern states, we have been inundated with an astronomical level of support for the presidential aspiration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

His acceptance level amongst the grassroots is phenomenal. One might be tempted to think he has his origin from the North.

“As a group with a vast network amongst youths and women in the 19 northern states in the county, including the Federal Capital Territory, we can say without fear or favour that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is widely accepted as the prime candidate for our great party in the coming 2023 general elections.”

The group said this is based on the fact that he has been able to build bridges across the country in service to the country and humanity through ways too numerous to mention.

If you channel the energy you waste on nairaland supporting an octogenarian to ruin what's left of your future(if you have any) into developing a business even if means being a sachet water vendor, then you will discover a lot more things about life than the disgrace you have turned yourself into.

I'm proudly Nigerian but instead of Tinubu, why not Osibanjo? If we have the likes of Obi(South East), Osibanjo(South West) Wike or Akpabio(South South) then we may have a slight chance of repelling the poverty that has invaded not just our economy but our common senses.

Politics2023: PDP Zoning Crisis Deepens As Atiku, Wike’s Men Dig In by mighty2(op): 6:27am On Apr 02, 2022

Fresh intrigues are unsettling the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as leaders and members of the party await the recommendation of the 37-member zoning committee inaugurated on March 24 by the National Chairman of the party, Dr Iyorchia Ayu.
State governors elected on the platform of the party and other leaders are also currently engaged in a game of wits over the mode of primary elections that should be used to nominate the presidential candidate for the 2023 election.
Direct primary is heavily favoured by the governors, one source said.
Other party members are rooting for the indirect mode.
“The Ayu-led leadership of the party is under immense pressure on how to conduct the next presidential primary election. It is one issue that is capable of landing the PDP in a fresh crisis,” a source told The Nation yesterday.
Some gladiators who fear that the decisions on zoning and mode of primary may eventually be referred to the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party for final discussion are understood to have already started lobbying state chairmen of the party for support.
Sources mentioned supporters of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and those of Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.
It was gathered that some of the presidential aspirants have even met with state chairmen to discuss the issue of zoning and seek support for their presidential ambitions.
Sources also said the committee met twice in Abuja earlier this week but was unable to agree on the
thorny issue of zoning, with members sharply divided on whether to cede the presidential ticket of the party to the southern part or throw the contest open
for aspirants from all parts of the country.
The last meeting was hurriedly adjourned when it became obvious that committee members were not
going to agree on a position on the matter.
Further deliberation has been fixed for Tuesday.
Said a source: “Nothing has been achieved because a lot of intrigues that played out at the meetings of the committee.
“It became clear last Tuesday that external forces were influencing the deliberations among committee
members when members returned to oppose positions they had earlier agreed to in the earlier meeting.
“With the way discussions ended at our last meeting, it will be difficult for the committee to conclude its
task soon. We have received papers and petitions from various groups within and outside the PDP.
“The arguments for and against zoning are very strong and both parties have genuine reasons.”
Chairman of the committee and Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, however, assured party
supporters that they would come up with an arrangement that will be acceptable to all.
“The meeting is yet to be concluded. We have adjourned till Tuesday next week at the same time, at the same venue. And until we conclude the proceedings, there is not much to say,” he said.
The Nation, however, learnt that the assignment of the committee is made more difficult following moves by presidential aspirants and other gladiators to influence the outcome of the committee’s assignment.

PoliticsLagos PDP Elders, Leaders Fault Congress, Blame National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu by mighty2(op): 5:50am On Apr 02, 2022
The Elders, leaders and the Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Lagos state, on Friday, faulted what it described as the purported ratification of the February 26th botched state Congress by the PDP National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu.

In a communique signed by its leaders, Dr Remi Akitoye, Senator Kofo Akerele-Bucknor and Mrs Onikepo-Oshodi, the elders accused Ayu of behaving like “a sole administrator, contemptuous of the sobering voices of the Southwest representatives.”

The communique reads: “We are shocked, absolutely disappointed and stricken with disbelief that Dr Iyorchia Ayu arrogantly dismissed the collective essence of the National Working Committee, capriciously behaved like an autocrat, disregarded any attempt at plural contributions appropriating

what ought to be a collective decision in a brazen proprietary authority.
“Dr Ayu behaved like a sole administrator, contemptuous of the sobering voices of the Southwest representatives.

“Dr. Ayu hardly demonstrated the requisite gravitas and the innate democratic accommodation of a good leader as he hastily ignored everyone and purportedly “ratified” what has been universally condemned as a flawed Congress.

“Despite various petitions emanating from the aspirants, the BOT members , the Caretaker Committee and the concerned individuals which substantiated the fact that the congress was a brazen sham, Dr. Ayu still disregarded the various voices of reason .

“The reports from INEC, the Appeal Committee, the BOT Elders, the Caretaker Committee and other quarters were all unanimous about the untidy, flawed and the inconclusive nature of the botched Congress.

“Dr. Ayu, in his wisdom, cast aside this cumulative weight of evidence, hastened in contemptuous indifference to the truth, jettisoned what is right and just, flung away the constitutional pivot of our party which is anchored on justice and fairness doctrine.

“We are dismayed, sickened and sad that there is a desperate attempt to destabilize Lagos State and render the Yoruba race inconsequential in the scheme of things. Lagos state alone has the largest electoral figures in the nation. This should not be happening very close to election year.

“Let there be no doubt about our resolve to challenge this grave injustice with all the legitimate legal means.

“We have ascertained and convinced that there is a well planned, premeditated attempt to hand over our state to fifth columnists whose mission is unknown, whose purpose is shrouded in an ultimate goal that appears to be an attempt to weaken the party.

“We will never roll over and fade away. We will fight this injustice with temperance and sure-footedness.

We reject outrightly this failed attempt to impose on the majority of our members a botched , inconclusive Congress that has no legality in law and no iota of legitimacy in the moral sense.

“The injustice done to Lagos seems to be aligned with a very dangerous pattern to elbow out the people of the Southwest from high table at the PDP conclave.

“Finally, we do not and we will not recognize the shambolic contraption they are trying to rig up in Lagos. We will continue this struggle until the wrongs are rectified and until Justice eventually prevails”
