freeman67:My point is, some investors may consider the future prospects of a company and take a position in it. It is part of the risks involved in investing! I am not saying Oando is good stocks or bad! Every listed company/stocks currently struggling can also have a turnaround like Transcorp or any other company did. Oando's problems started more than a decade ago when it was rumoured that some politicians like James Ibori etc. had some stake in it. As a downstream company it paid dividends consistently, paying N4 per share for FY2007; N3 per share FY 2009;FY2010 & FY2011. The least was N1 per share FY 2014. The change in business from downstream to upstream and the acquisition of assets of multinationals like Conocco Philips apparently took a huge toll on the company's cash position which affected its operations. Again, numerous issues with major shareholders and SEC also dragged the company down. It is not easy for a company to pay the equivalent of USD600m to one single shareholder and not feel the impact. However, the company seems to have overcome these challenges with a new lease of life and the strategic acquisition of ENI/NAOC assets. It also paid off most of its commercial loans. Afrexim Bank directors are no fools to give a loan of USD800m to a company that has no good prospects. Recently, the company pre-financed the FGN with about USD500m loan. These are signs that there could be something coming up that we may not be fully aware of as at now. If not for the issue of delisting, Oando would be selling well above N25 by now. Unless we are saying that things will never ever improve in the company because Wale Tinubu is the CEO! He was the CEO when the company was paying dividends. Bottom line: Every investment appraisal methodology (e.g. past financial results or future earnings, performance etc.) has its merits and downside. Chose the one that favours you; float with your money or sink with it! |
Choiceguy:No one has said anything here about hope being a strategy. The ''insecurity etc. that can affect performance'' is also talking about potential future occurrence or events that affect profits. It is a known global principle that investing is always more futuristic than the past . That is why each company will prepare a prospectus for each public or rights offer to inform the public about the future prospects of the company. It is not always about past performance only. There is also something called ''insider information'' which may not be known to the investing public at a point in time. Again, it is a free market and people have varied reasons/strategies based on privileged knowledge, information, investment goals and objectives, as well as the timing or tenure of the investment. Some would buy a near-dead stocks at very cheap price now, and sell at massive gains in future when the company's performance improves. Others would wait until when the company is doing very well and then buy the stocks at a higher value. Intl Breweries, Hone-well Flour Mills etc. are also going through some restructuring and their prices are very low now. But Oando is not for those who want to make huge profits in the short term. Be ready for the long haul because it would take time. Go check the quantum of viable oil reserves that Oando commands; that is the key thing to its future prospects. |
bovali:This is a good, thought-provoking analysis of Oando historic performance in FY2023, and serves as a good guide to moderate the expectations of investors/gamblers. My thinking, however, is that investors weigh in more on the potential future earnings and performance of the company, rather than past performance. Most companies/stocks that are doing well on the NGX (and other exchanges worldwide) have always had a history of bad financial performance in the past. FBNH, Transcorp, BCC (now Dangote) Cement, WAPCO etc. are just a few examples! Oando's financial results for FYS2023 (and probably HY2023) do not include the impact of the acquisition of ENI/NAOC oil fields. So let us do an analysis of the revenue and profitability that could be attributable to ENI/NAOC operations. That should be the contribution to Oando's performance arising from ENI/NAOC assets. Then we can have a better idea of what to expect. |
Sheistoopretty:Just at your avatar/username and compare with what you type? Are you this ugly and disgusting in mind? Which Igbo properties were even burned by Yoruba? Rather, it is was reported that some Igbo used the opportunity of SARS riots in Lagos to burn Yoruba investments. |
yMcy56:It is not only heavyweights that aren't selling. Anyone that has followed recent developments in Oando would hesitate to sell his/her shares. The huge over N3 trillion turnover reported for FY2023 does not even include revenues from operations of the newly acquired ENI/NAOC oil fields. So one can imagine what the results could be when they integrate revenues from the ENI fields and almost double their output level in a year or two from now. People selling may be trading to re-enter later. I am also contemplating selling some of my holdings just to settle some bills urgently and re-enter again. But the timing is key. The results for HY2024 may be released soon which may affect the prices, so one has to weigh the pros and cons of each option . |
BabsO2:Lol. I get your vibe! People don't want Oando to spring a positive surprise and miss out on the potential cash out. |
megawealth01:This could be an opportunity for those who may still be interested to load more Oando shares. Just chill a bit and allow the price to drop to around N8-10 and then you accumulate, especially before they release HY2024 results. Oando could be either a gamble or a strategic investment that would yield huge returns! But you must be ready for the long haul. Good luck to both gamblers and investors |
dibunotion:On what basis? Tony and Jim are/were CEOs of big banks. Was he also trying to rival Elumelu and Ovia when he divested and sold off his shares in AP and Transcorp? Otedola has investments in various sectors and he does not have to try to rival Elumelu, Ovia or anybody. |
sky2891:For Oando's court case, be hopeful for good news but plan and prepare for the worst case scenario! That is how to survive in this business! |
Dapromzy333:The court will only end up causing confusion for nothing! Whoever the state government wants is who will become the Emir! |
DonFreshmoney:Please, exercise some restraint and caution when you talk about things that you know little about! The houses in question were being managed and under the custody of Essien's wife. They took a mortgage to buy the houses. At a time, mortgage payments were not regular and the financing institution decided to take the case to court. Essien agreed to the option to sell off the mansions to pay off the mortgage, and also used the remaining balance to acquire additional new properties in the same area. Essien is not broke. He has several properties in choice areas scattered over London, Spain and Italy. Do not just jump tp conclusion when you read stories online. |
SKYHIGHfx:Exactly! That is why I respect the late Prophet TB Joshua. Most of the miracles in the SCOAN have records of the ''before'' and ''after'', so there is little or no doubt to the objective observer about the authenticity of the miracle. Why are most other pastors/churches not doing same? |
sachidistudios:''Did you mean to type ''farming'' or famine'' ? |
Meerahbel:a. Market sentiments. b. Trend in the market c. Industry news and developments e.g. news that Oando has acquired NAOC will affect the price of Oando d. International/political events e.g. oil prices due to Arab/Israel war, do affect price of oil and gas stocks e. Price, yield on alternative securities e.g. bonds, TB etc.. . f. naptu2:Just stop the sensationalism and lies. I followed Edward Ansah's story and it is a lies that Ghanaians were upset that he was playing for a Nigerian club. Citizens of a country don't just raise funds for an active football player becaue they don't the foreign club that he is playing, no matter where he is playing. It is football clubs that are interested in the player that raise funds to buy a player when they need him. Ghana had better goalkeepers than Edward Ansah and he was not their first choice goalkeeper even when he was at his best in the 1980s He was not so special to Ghanaians in the 1980s because they had better goalkeepers like Joseph Carr and Sam Suppey At Senegal 1992 Ansah had past his prime and lost hos position to younger goalkeepers in the team. So his time in the Ghana national team was not even log enough for them to complain or raise funds to buy him from Iwuanyanwu. Nigeria was a dream destination for most Ghanaian players at the time, so they did not raise any funds to take him away from Nigeria. What about Arthur Moses who played for Stationery Stores and he was one of the best at the time? Dod they raise money for him too? If Ghanaians were not upset when Leotis Boateng and John Benson played for Green Eagles, then why would they be upset that Ansah was playing for a club in Nigeria? Please stay with what you know and don't exaggerate with sensationalism |
naptu2:No Ghanaian was upset that he was playing for Nigerian club! In fact during that time, most Ghanaian footballers wanted to play in Nigeria because the Ghanaian economy was very bad while Nigeria's economy was much better and flourishing. That was an era when many Ghanaians were rushing to Nigeria for economic and business reasons. So how and which Ghanaians were upset about him playing for a Nigerian club? There many Ghanaian footballers who were playing in Nigeria at that time. You can ask Segun Odegbami and Christian Chuwkwu if you wish. If they were not upset when he was playing in his best form for Leventis United in the early 1980s, how could they be upset when he was playing for Iwuanyanwu in the late 80s/early 90s when we was not even in his best form? Where would they even get the money from (when their economy was very bad) to buy him out from a very lucrative contract at Iwuanyanwu Nationale? Can you state which Ghanaian club wanted to buy him out? Was it Accra Hearts of Oak, Ashanti Kotoko, GHAPOHA (his earlier club in Ghana), Ashanti Goldfields, Accra Great Olympics, Real Tamale United (RTU), Hassaccas, Eleven Wise, Dwarfs, Okwahu United or which club? Stop the sensationalism! |

What you said about Edward Ansah is not correct! It is not true! Edward Ansah actually played for Leventis United of Ibadan for many years in the early 1980s before he moved to Iwuanyanwu Nationale. At a time, he was the best goalkeeper in Nigeria. There were many Ghanaian players that came to the Nigerian league at that time and some of them actually played for the Green Eagles of Nigeria e.g. Leotis Boateng, John Benson etc. Ansah could not play for Nigeria because he had already played for a Ghana national team before he came to Nigeria. There were some Nigerians that also played for Ghana e.g. the Kayode Brother (i.e. Dan Kayode and Ben Kayode) but they were born and grew up in Ghana). Even Ibrahim Sunday, the first winner of African Footballer of The Year award (in 1970), played for Ghana but it is rumoured that his grand parents originally migrated from Nigeria to Ghana. |
EBEk101:America is not playing any two-faced role in the Gaza war. The US is only trying to show some empathy and do something for the so called ''Palestinians'' who have been put into trouble by the useless Hamas. Everyone knows that the US and Israel have the strongest ties in the world and they would not break that for useless terrorist organizations like Hamas and Hezbollah. |
Back2Daura:I recall Prophet Utuocha said it about 2 months ago that Oando had helped to raise some loan for the FG and I asked for confirmation, which this article now seems to provide. I think Prophet Utuocha is a deep-throat insider when it comes to Oando and his comments and opinions about Oando should be taken seriously and not discarded. He has said that Oando will not delist! We all wait to see. |
Islie:This shows how clueless and unprepared this Tinubu govt. is. This directive should have been directed at the Minister of Labour and Productivity, and then whatever the minister brings forward would be reviewed by the Min of Finance before they present to the Federal Executive Council Is the government saying that the Ministry of Labour and Productivity does not have any template that had been used for previous negotiations, hence it is the Ministry of Finance that should provide it? |
A2daiye:Israel does not go around looking for trouble and war. It is the Arabs that have always wanted to destroy and obliterate Israel from the face of the earth! Have you ever heard Israel say that they want to eliminate any Arab country from existence? It is always the Arabs saying that Israel does not deserve to exist! That is why the Arabs want to take over the land of Israel by force using lies and propaganda e.g. claiming that they own Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria (a.k.a. West Bank) |
aimaft:The momentum in Oando is NOT weak. A whopping N710m worth were traded today. However, some forces do not want the price to rise so they can mop up more units. C |
aimaft:Lol! Na real Ogbanje! Oando would either make or mar people this time around. |
aimaft:I guess the Oando momentum is being manipulated. About 397m units were traded on the NGX yesterday. So what has changed? |
OkpaNsukkaisBae:Foolish lies being swallowed by gullible terrorist sympathizers. Tell your Hamas to come out and establish a battle front and fight, instead of mingling with and carrying out attack from civilians houses and installations. Israel has taken steps to minimize civilian casualty by asking them to evacuate and move away from harms way. No country in the world has ever done this! Not USA, not UK, not Russia, not Iran, not Ukraine, not S.Arabia! None has ever done yet. Yet liars would say Israel is killing civilians indiscriminately. A single civilian life lost is tragic and unfortunate; but Hamas caused it! The Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health in Gaza is telling you that over 36,000 ''Palestinians'' have been killed, but they refused to tell you how many of those killed are Hamas terrorists, so they can use that strategy to deceive and mislead the gullible ones that all the people killed are civilians and win sympathy! |
Raider76:I made a similar comment few days ago. There seems to be some interested market players that are trying to keep Oando share price within a range that would enable them acquire as much as possible. We keep observing. |
megawealth01:Have you joined the Oando bus once again? |
megawealth01:Please give me some heads up, I also want to make some of wealth. Oando is not the only to wealth I am not too proud to beg or plead! Biko! |
megawealth01:But Eterna must be doing same or even better than Oando. |
Oakenshield:What is your business where Israel gets its weapons and support from? Do you complain when Russia, North Korea etc. give weapons and support to Iran, Lebanon, Syria, Hamas and Hezbollah? Get a life and leave Israel alone! |
gare2510:I am beginning to suspect that there are some unseen hands that do not want Oando's share price to rise beyond a particular threshold. My Reason: When the FY2022 audited accounts was released early this year, it was mentioned therein that the company made a loss for FY2023. This discouraged a lot of potential investors from buying the shares, thereby keeping the price relatively low. But all of a sudden, the FY2023 unaudited results is released and there is a whopping N74.7b profit! Now again, there was news this morning that the bid for the shares is about 60m; All of a sudden it has dropped to 33m! We all shall see where this would lead eventually! |
Bagwa:Prophet Utuocha's ''prophecy'' on Oando loading gradually! |
