Akingbade noted that these are evidence-based reasons that justify the choice of the Vice President to succeed the current president, his boss, President Muhammadu Buhari.

Akingbade gave further credence to the Vice President’s humility and loyalty, by quoting copiously from the recent birthday tribute made by President Muhammadu Buhari who commended Prof. Yemi Osinbajo for working selflessly and sacrificially to bring government closer to the people and placing people at the center of governance by regularly advocating policies that support human development and puts the welfare and well-being of Nigerians first.

The Group noted that the need for a rounded, competent, and credible candidate with nationwide appeal and acceptance was a fundamental imperative and deciding factor for the next election and the overall future direction of the country.

Mr. Tony Epelle, a distinguished lawyer and convener of the WE MOVE Group noted that to build a new Nigeria, there must be a collective of men and women who are prepared to make the sacrifices to stick together to fight injustice, to fight corruption and to insist on the rule of law as key pillars for building a healthy progressive society. He observed that the Vice President is a principled leader, with the right people focused and public service credentials to lead Nigeria at a critical time when the nation needs experienced, skillful, stable hands at the helm.

Speaking on the Vice President’s impressive antecedents Akingbade observed that at any time Prof. Yemi Osinbajo had performed in executive capacity, either as Attorney General in Lagos State or as Acting President of the Federal Government, his inspired policies, actions and initiatives in the public sector have greatly shaped and continue to shape, social, legal, economic and political development in Nigeria. He noted that even in situations where the Vice President does not wield total executive power, he uses advocacy to advance causes he believes in, like his laudable rehabilitation/welfare initiative in the war torn North East of Nigeria.

Alhaji Zakari Buba, a business man and convener of the Group noted that Nigerians have a rare opportunity to support the candidacy of the Vice President who he described as a one-in-a-million politician with an impeccable and unblemished record of integrity, honesty and trustworthiness.

He observed that those who have had the privilege to associate with Prof. Yemi Osinbajo will attest that he is the kind of leader we need at this critical phase of our nationhood, given his transparent commitment to the progress of people from every part of the country and his uncommon fairness and loyalty even in very difficult times.

He explained that there is nothing on the VPs record that shows any form of insubordination, betrayal of trust, or abandonment of his principles or default on government programs and policies. On a broad scale, he noted that the Vice President combines a considerate and inclusive nature with firm convictions, clear focus and a can-do spirit on how to deliver better quality of life to Nigerians.

Speaking on theGroup’s unanimous support for the Vice President, Mr Akingbade reflected that since independence, Nigeria has been in search of a leader who will rise above the differences to embrace our commonalities. He observed “the Vice President is not a desperate politician, but someone with a genuine heart for service... and our mandate is to continue to engage with like minds across religious and ethnic divides to see the need to have a great president like Vice President Yemi Osinbajo come 2023”

There is no direction to that, in fact more buhari appointees are coming out to endorse osinbajo, we all know how it works in naija, the commissioners and special advisers will be campaigning for any governors' candidate, in this case it is the ministers or special assistants for the president, if you know you know, this is the reality not a a mere rumour of ameachi.

I have been studying the political atmosphere of Nigeria for sometime now, like the topic implies why the VP is the favourite, I will highlight some points here.

1)He is the current VP of Nigeria, and as normal procedure all over the world, he has the right of first refusal.
2)He is intelligent smart and very educated.
3)The little time he acted as the acting president, we could all see the difference he made.
4)Religion favours him as a Christian, we all know that the outgoing president is a Muslim.
5)The political appointees of the president have started mobilising for him, so what else do you need as a prove that for now he is the favourite, there is no way the political appointees of the president will be campaigning for him without some assurances and green light from the presidency.,example of such was the endorsement in akwa ibom organised by the senior special assistant to the president on Niger delta, ita Inang, sentiment apart this guy is the favourite. I have been reading comments and posts on social media in almost 24 hours about El rufai’s statement about running with Amaechi if the president insisted. Many have interpreted what El rufai said to mean Amaechi is indeed Buhari’s candidate. Last January, the president affirmed he has a candidate who he will keep close to his chest until the appropriate time.

I don’t think El rufai or anyone else for that matter would go ahead of the president to reveal his favourite. It just might be a smoke screen to cause distraction in some quarters. They say politics is deep and dynamic but then I might be wrong.

The Indigenous People of Nigeria, IPN, has rejected the zoning arrangement as published by All Progressive Congress, APC.

IPN made its position known in Abuja during its 3rd Press Conference on State of the Nation.

Text of the statement reads;

10th March, 2022

PRESS CONFERENCE ON STATE OF THE NATION:

Gentlemen of the Press, you may recall that penultimate to the National Convention of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the Indigenous People of Nigeria, IPN, lauded the Party for putting up a zoning arrangement suitable for a multi-ethnic society like ours.

We also recall writing an open letter to APC stressing the need to recognise and adopt a zoning arrangement that is favorable and acceptable to Nigeria.

IPN therefore takes deeper look into the zoning arrangement under the ruling All Progressive Congress with the following observations.

1. Going by the zoning arrangement made public by the APC Caretaker Committee Chairman, H.E Sani Bello, the position of National Chairman is zoned to the North Central, Deputy Chairman North, to the Northwest, Deputy Chairman South to South East, and National Secretary to South West.

2. We observe that this zoning arrangement of political positions under the ruling APC is unjust to a section of the country, specifically, the Southeast. We view it disheartening that the APC is toying with the unity and oneness of Nigeria.

3. The view earlier expressed by APC was that the North and South swerved positions , such that all positions initially held by the North automatically go to the South and vice versa.

4. However, it is apparent that while the South West held the first chairmanship position of the party, Vice President and Speakership positions, and the North East Secretary and Senate President, members of the party from the South East are treated with disdain, giving the impression that they do not belong to the party.

Indeed, the manifold imbalance clearly manifest that the APC does not care about Nigeria's unity, and one dares say that this move is very dangerous and portends danger to Nigeria's corporate existence.

Needless to say that this is an unjust treatment so provocative and vindictive that immediate redress is required. Failure on the part of APC to correct the wrong treatment amounts to deepening the South East alienation and further threatening the corporate existence of Nigeria.

IPN is not unaware that Nigeria, under the watch of APC, has been in terrible disarray; and the Party cannot pretend to show comfort in this sad state by not doing anything to unite the people of Nigeria.

We the Indigenous People therefore frown seriously against this, and urge the party to take necessary steps towards the correction before the Convention.

IPN calls on well meaning Nigerians, particularly, leaders of Southeast in APC, to reject in its entirety the proposed zoning formular as made by the Acting Caretaker Chairman, and immediately commence engagement to rectify it so as to bring sense of belonging to Nigerians from the Southeast.

The insecurity, uprising, agitations and call for secession from the Southeast is clearly due to the injustice meted against the people of the zone.

We honestly, call on the National leadership and stakeholders of Southeast to rescind their decision and zone the position of National Secretary to the Southeast, just as PDP has done.

We also expect that the party will go further to ensure that the next presidential candidate of the APC should come from the Southeast in the Spirit of Justice, equity and fairness.

Our position can be excused by the assumption that it will amount to an overburden for a South East that has the zoning of presidency to still share equally with other zones. Otherwise our position is cemented by a recent statement credited to our elder statesman, the former President Olusegun Obasanjo that unless due care is taken to address all agitations, Nigeria may cease to exist beyond 2023.

May we, on a final note, reemphasize that IPN is neither a political association of the PDP nor APC, nor any of the political parties. We consider it a duty to ensure that political parties, especially the leading parties, do the right thing at all times for the good of Nigeria and Nigerians.

Anyway, maybe I didn't get what you are trying to say, even at national positions level, I think is 5 each by each region, to me the main politics has started, the race is for the South West to loose, all things favour the sw, since it has been zoned to the region, they have 5 seating governors, a seating VP, speaker all these positions matter and they will influence the decision of the party.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will officially communicate his stance on the 2023 presidential election, his spokesperson, Laolu Akande, has said.

Mr Akande fielded questions from State House correspondents shortly after photo sessions with the vice president who marked his 65th birthday on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said that at present, Mr Osinbajo is focused on supporting President Muhammadu Buhari to deliver in addressing Nigeria’s challenges.

“Well, like he has said up to this time, he is committed to the work that he is elected as vice president and to support the president.

“ That is what he is focused on now; and like I have also said in my last tweet, whatever will be his activities or whatever he would do will be communicated officially,” he said.

Mr Akande said that the vice president, based on his observations in the last seven to eight years, was driven by the notion that the government and governance and leadership ought to have a heart of justice and a heart of service.

“He often says in most of the meetings that we hold that the reason why we are here is because people put us here.

“ We are here in the interest of the people; so, he is someone that is committed to that notion of service to the people, whether in government, whether as a pastor, whether as a lawyer.

“In every aspect of his life, he understands very diligently the idea that we are here to serve.’’

He said that Mr Osinbajo had always emphasised on the need to create impact for the people.

According to him, the vice president is very inspiring and worthy of leadership.

“As you can see there are many more Nigerians today that are yearning to say that this is the kind of man to follow.

“So, happy birthday, vice president,’’ he said.

Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Ade Ipaye, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha and Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State who also featured in the photo sessions with vice president, paid glowing tributes to him.

Mr Buhari had earlier in a birthday message, applauded Mr Osinbajo for his loyalty and dedication to duty, especially in supervising the nation’s economy,
