Unfortunately, mum's place isn't the right place for now, I'm just going to add up to her burden, she's living in Igangan, she was the head of a school and had a shop, she retired 2yrs ago to face her business until Fulani's brouhaha stormed Igangan, her shop got affected cos it's located at the burnt Kara market, she picked up the few things left and started a new shop where she's MANAGING, if not for her predicament, I won't think twice that night, but I wouldn't like to add salt to her injuries, dad wasn't in support of her living in Oyo state which made him not to show interest in the story, efforts had been made to make him bend his strictness but he's the type that doesn't compromise easily.
I'm screwed up.
Then find your way to your family home in the village, I believe you were not ostracized. Your kinsmen will not throw you out with the children and they should be able to bring in your parents to chart the way forward because your family MUST be involved.

Your response to yourself reflects your true view about the relationship because I have seen many women who co-habited and felt the relationship may improve should the man finally decides to go pay their bride price.....warped!

My bride price hasn't been paid.
Do you want him to pay your bride price?

Thanks for your response, he had been telling me to leave, he even threatened me, to take my life if I insist on staying, atimes , he'd seize the key, lock me out, abuse me and others but I'll still beg him for my kid's sake and he's using this medium to blackmail me.
You are forcing yourself on a partner who has already signed out of the relationship, someone that didn't even deem it necessary to pay your bride price, you are not his wife as you are just co-habiting with him but you are here using your children as an excuse to avoid facing your reality.

The earlier you restart your life away from him, the better for you and your children.

I know a Reverend Father based in Italy who purposely flew down to Nigeria because of their last born who had sworn to be a thorn in the flesh of their aged parents, as early as 5a.m he arrived their family house with 2 policemen, kicked the guy up from sleep and had him bundled into the car and straight to Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Enugu where he paid to have the younger brother locked up for months till when he was to return to Nigeria for his annual leave as he couldn't allow his youngest brother to continue harrassing their aged parents and threatening to burn down the family house with their parents in it.

Aftet being released from the psychiatric hospital, na the guy call family meeting say e wan learn handwork. cheesy

Ok... I have this neighbor in the compound I reside, his a wife beater and was even beating his wife when she was few weeks to EDD. The first time it happened I didn't know what to do but could only listen to her crying all night feeling nothing but pity and disgust and anger for the whole situation. ( Yeah I have a tender spot and yet fear for pregnant women and babies)
It happened again and I reported to the Landlord, the Man was called, cautioned and adviced... Seems it worked as I didn't hear any sound of crying or belt lashing.

Now it's been months and it started suddenly again, last night was leaving to get something across the street when I walked close to their flat. I suddenly heard her again, her crying and his harsh whispers, a whoozing slap, something falling and belt landing, she cried and whimpered, moaned softly but instead of rage or at least empathy at her situation...

I discovered my pipi was kicking. I turned back, went inside my room and turned off the fan so I could clearly hear the sounds she was making, am afraid to say they felt like music to my ear. I grew more aroused as I closed my eyes retreating into a darkness of evil imaginations toying with possibilities as different scenarios played out in my mind.

Christ have mercy.

50 years in biss is better than 80 years as a single divorced woman.
What is your definition of "bliss" in your context?

Where did you read it up or were you taught in school that being single or divorced is a mental disorder? cheesy cheesy

Go read gerontology journals and also observe your environment more keenly without being beclouded, you will note that women retain family and social webs better than men. In old age, old women are less lonely than old men as you are more likely to see an old man living alone without family than seeing an old woman living so.

How does one double like a post? Because this is thumbs up. The goal of all moral policing of women and preaching about values is never because those who say it mean are good people or that they even believe it.
It’s because to them, that is a way they can scare women into thinking they do not deserve anything more than a mediocre existence subject to the generosity of the man giving it.
It is their insecurities speaking, the fear of the possibility that a woman can have a better life outside the man she severed relationship with.

I recall back in school, my Marriage and Family Therapy lecturer said most men fear second marriages except the ones gifted with the gene of being serial husbands because when a marriage collapses, women are usually blamed as being the cause, the man is hailed and convinced that there are women who are eager to be his wife and the need for him to be reflective over his role in his failed marriage is ignored.

He goes into another marriage without changing things in himself that may have caused the earlier flop and begins to realize that it is also heading the way of the first but because he doesn't want the attention of the society to redirect at him and begin to have a rethink that the ex-wife wasn't really at fault but the man, he is now forced to swallow things he wouldn't have in his first marriage and some wives of the second marriage cash in on that but there are men whey no send, they are eager for their third marriage and the next....until they are no longer financially attractive to draw women into marriage. cheesy cheesy

You have said it all. Beautifully.

@bold
So true. But I have no hope for this generation. Instead of finding ways to build loving homes, they think of ways to manipulate, use scare tactics or swallow some red pills and suffer from megalomania. Very unhealthy approach. I pity their children who will never experience how a loving couple operates as one unit. This mentality will lead to many dysfunctional homes. At least, you will never run out of clients and clinical case studies. wink
So warped that some believe that having a healthy marriage is a sign of weakness, of being emasculated.

There is a sad increase of children and adolescents with attachment disorder and conduct disorders all due to dysfunctional homes. I know after completing my specialty in Clinical Child Psychology, my appointment book would be brimming with young ones who needs professional intervention.

The intention of this thread by the OP is to scare women into remaining in marriages that is toxic to their overall well-being and probably their children', that it is safer to remain in that cage because out there, they will find it difficult to readjist!

I guess OP never researched on how women whose husbands abandoned them and their kids to start a new life elsewhere have coped. If overwhelming majority of Nigerian widows have after the death of their husband ,on their own raised their children without assistance from her late husband's family, he would have a better understanding that post divorce is not all about darkness for a woman, that is why many forward thinking lawyers who are into marriage and family law refer their female clients to a licensed MFT (Marriage and Family Therapist) for pre-divorce and post-divorce therapy which is intended to disabuse their minds from the traditional views that she is a nobody without the spouse who feels he is not obligated in contributing to make the marriage a healthy one. A woman with a good lawyer who legally divorced properly should be able to secure the obligations the man has towards their children who are products of their union...school fees, healthcare etc and not subject those obligations to his mood swings.

I laughed where OP brought up the changing of light bulbs, that the woman would be helpless! cheesy cheesy Uncle, you have no idea on how majority of Reverend Sisters do things for themselves, Sisters whey dey slit the necks, roast and butcher goats themselves, pack am for freezer na to change light bulbs go come be rocket science! cheesy

God hates divorce, just as He hates the repeated intentional behaviours and actions that leads to divorce, you leave your cooking unattended to and still believe sogged or burnt food is not your portion.

Focus should be on husbands and wives working as a team for a healthy marriage and a conducive family life where the husband, the wife and the children they have been blessed with, can thrive.

Your attempt at rebuttal at the OP was poor and driven by emotions.

Women stand to lose more in divorce - FACT! Everyone knows that while men age like wine, women age like milk. And except the woman is rich no one hardly wants a committed relationship with a woman divorced with child. Her market value isn't the same. Some may stick around for the money but it doesn't really end well.

As for your point with house helps, friends and family helping. That's a truck load of crap. No one does it like it's his/her own. It's never the same. Your husband standing in for father's day for a colleague --that's unfortunate as it's shameful. You only unwittingly drove the OP's point home.

Women can't raise adolescents and can't really train boys on their own.

While in some cases separation might be the only remedy, divorce should not be encouraged and it's consequences downplayed. A good portion of outlaws in our society today come from broken homes or raised by single parent.
"Everyone knows that while men age like wine, women age like milk.".......And who is more likely to outlive the other?

If you can get a hammock fixed in her sleeping area, the rocking motion will help her slip into sleep better.

You can also look into getting squeeze balls/stress balls for your mum, the squeezing motion will help her body release tension. Google to see what they look like.

What if she isn't? There are times our actions are not as a result of our significant other's actions, it is just about us. We have a female addict who is a patient in the rehab unit within the psychiatric facility I work in. She is in her early 30s, married with 2 children and have a high flying career and based on her own words during one of our group therapy sessions, said in her mind she was able to circle out her husband who ticks the box for her as a responsible husband and father to their children in her dark side of drugged bondage sex which gives her the high and she gets it outside of her marriage despite being certain that the husband has been faithful to her (the husband only knows about the drug part of it and has been very supportive of her recovery but not aware of the sexual mix! cheesy) uwa wu ofu mbia!

Who knows what his abuse of substances has caused in their marriage and their children, for him to feel at ease indulging that addiction with the accused is a likely indication why he might feel more comfortable being away from his family.

He made his choice as a full blown adult and has reached his earthly end, the woman and the children should strive not to be weighed down by any form of shame, dem no commit crime.

This question will be rhetorical if you do a research on how some of us who have a working class mother kept their home and marriage up till date.

Like our working mothers brought resources home to assist our fathers, still looked after the hubby and kids and harness everything to work fine without hitches.

That can't be said for some mothers of current modern world.

It's a pity the man is dead, and dead men don't tell their stories...

Many well to do guys go this way...And the wives move on...But it doesn't call for her to celebrate because las las everybody go kpai!.
But we can't discount the fact that some working mothers of the 80s and 90s who brought in income to the family, looked after their husbands and children unfortunately had husbands who were having extra-marital affairs but choose to remain in their marriage thereby giving a facade of a happy marriage by adopting uwa wu elecha aghara. cheesy cheesy
