Governance in Nigeria is something else. |
Hmm... |
Despite efforts by the Nigerian government and the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, to dissuade junior police officers from going on strike, the policemen are adamant that the strike will go on. One of the dissatisfied officers' leaders told journalists that if the Buhari administration does not increase their wages and fulfill other requests by March 25 at 11:59 p.m., all police stations across the country will be shut down. He encouraged well-intentioned Nigerians to persuade the Nigerian government to investigate the predicament of Nigerian police officers. "We are giving the federal government until 11:59 p.m. on March 25 (Friday) to pay the new salary arrangements and other requests, or we will go on strike." "I implore well-intentioned Nigerians to ask the federal government to investigate the Nigeria Police Force's condition. We are in pain. Remember that a country's grandeur or lack thereof is determined by how well its police are treated. "We are always ready and willing to offer our all in carrying out our many responsibilities, but as the adage goes, 'a hungry man is an angry man,' we can't give what we don't have." The cops are famished. "Recall that following the #EndSARS saga, the Nigerian government accepted the organizers' suggestions, which included higher salaries for police officers, improved working conditions, habitable barracks, and up-to-date crime-fighting equipment, among other things." However, none of those proposals have been implemented as of yet. "The Nigerian government has officially claimed to boost police salaries three times since the #EndSARS protest. We only learn about them via the news. "Our demands include the payment of a minimum salary of N100,000, the removal of police from the Pension Administrators, the procurement of up-to-date crime-fighting equipment for the police, the construction of habitable barracks for Nigerian police officers and men, and the improvement of working conditions for the Nigerian Police Force." https://webtimes.com.ng/2022/03/23/pay-us-our-entitlements-before-1159-pm-march-25th-or-we-go-on-strike-police-to-buhari/ |

Senator Dino Melaye's Nomination and Expression of Interest Forms for the Kogi West senate seat in Kogi State in 2023 have been obtained by PDP New Generation, a pro-Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) organisation. The organisation also contributed N500,000 to Melaye's election campaign. The forms and monetary donation were presented to Melaye on Monday at his Abuja residence as part of the PDP New Generation Group National Executives' solidarity and familiarisation tours led by its Director-General, Audu Mahmood, to brief Melaye on the group and convey his appointment as its Grand Patron. According to a statement signed by Dare Akinniyi, the group's head of media and strategy, the DG also spoke about the importance of having a united PDP as the 2023 elections approach. According to Akinniyi, Mahmood stated that Senator Melaye's brief presence in the 8th and 9th Senates had a significant impact on lawmaking and Nigeria as a whole, lamenting the absence of the outspoken ex-lawmaker in the current 9th Senate, saying the development has created a huge void, and urging him to return to the 10th Senate to defend and protect Nigerians' interests. As a result, the Kogi State chapter of the PDP New Generation Group donated N500,000 to Senator Melaye as a gesture of support for his campaign for the 10th Senate. The group's national organization purchased his Senate Nomination and Express of Interest Forms and committed to provide all necessary support in order for him to be sworn in as a member of the 10th Senate in June 2023. "We, the PDP New Generation, will continue to support and promote the activities of all party members, especially the youth and women." As young people, we shall continue to work for the growth of our great party and campaign for youth inclusion and political involvement. "We are today's leaders, and the PDP is the platform for young people," Mahmood remarked. Senator Melaye responded by accepting his nomination as Grand Patron of the PDP New Generation Group, notwithstanding his surprise at the group's generosity. "It's a really emotional and upsetting situation for me." "I thank you all, and I thank God," Melaye expressed his gratitude. The delegation will continue its familiarization tours across the country in order to meet PDP stakeholders, particularly on topics of youth and women's inclusion, according to the statement. "The organization advances the role of young people and women in decision-making by promoting active participation in politics, governance, and amplifying marginalized voices to influence their leaders, advocate for growth, overcome barriers to meaningful political participation, and promote a more vibrant, resilient, and inclusive democracy," it stated. https://webtimes.com.ng/2022/03/22/kogi-pdp-youths-buys-nomination-forms-for-dino-melaye-donates-500-thousand/

The required COVID-19 test for vaccinated passengers entering Nigeria has been scrapped by the Federal Government. During a news conference on Monday, Boss Mustapha, Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID-19 and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, revealed this. Inbound fully vaccinated people arriving in the country will no longer be required to do a pre-departure PCR COVID-19 test, according to him. Mustapaha claimed that fully vaccinated travellers will be subjected to a fast antigen test at the airport by the Nigeria Centre For Disease Control (NCDC), which would be conducted at the arrival halls of all points of entry and airports across the country. Fully vaccinated travellers will not be charged for arrival quick antigen tests at the airport, according to the PSC chairman. The amended foreign travel protocols will take effect on Monday, April 4th, 2022, according to the SGF. "Passengers who are unvaccinated or inadequately vaccinated must perform a COVID-19 PCR test 48 hours before to departure, or a Day 2 and Day 7 test on arrival," he explained. Passengers who fall into this category will be expected to pay for their PCR testing via the travel site. "The same rules that apply to fully vaccinated adults apply to children aged 10 to 18 years; they will not be required to have pre-arrival PCR tests, but will have a sample obtained at the airport but will not be charged." "All passengers departing Nigeria are advised to be properly vaccinated and to follow COVID-19 norms and standards in their destination country." The PSC continues to highly urge the use of face masks in enclosed environments, according to the SGF, while the use of face masks in open spaces is discretionary. Mustapha also stated that the country's National Response is still in place, and that the country is continuing to watch global trends and adapting them to the circumstances in the country. He emphasized that while there has been a constant decrease in the number of instances around the world, Nigerians need not relax their guard just yet because there are predictions of rebounding, as Nigerians can witness in China, South Korea, Germany, Vietnam, France, and Hong Kong. https://webtimes.com.ng/2022/03/22/nigerian-govt-cancels-compulsory-covid-19-test-for-vaccinated-travelers/ |
The Kogi State National Labour Congress (NLC) has refuted the Kogi State Government’s assertion that the State NLC chairman, Onuh Edoka, had acknowledged to newsmen that Governor Yahaya Bello’s government was not owing workers’ salaries. According to the Labour Union, the Kogi state government’s announcement was a ruse to set the NLC leadership against the state’s employees. Salihu Lukman, the former Director General of the Progressive Governors Forum, accused Governor Yahaya Bello last week of attempting to sell the APC to the highest bidder. He noted that the Kogi Governor was in arrears on his salary. In response, the State government stated in a publication signed by the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, that the state was not only current but also prompt with salary payments, referring to the fact that the State NLC Chairman, Onuh Edoka, confirmed the development to newsmen at various fora. However, in a statement made available to news organizations on Tuesday and signed by Paul Omale, Kogi NLC secretary, the labour union accused the state government of a premeditated attempt to sow discord among state workers. “The leadership of organized Labour in Kogi has been alerted to a narrative published in a number of national dailies on March 6, 2022, saying that NLC Chairman Onuh Edoka verified that no percentage salary was paid to Kogi state workers. “The story appeared in the Punch, Guardian, Daily Independent, Thisday, Daily Trust, vanguard, Sun, and blueprint on March 6, 2022. “The author (Kogi State Government) of the story was clearly on a mission to pit state workers against organized labor’s leadership. “The NLC chairman, Mr Onuh Edoka, made no such interview or press statement to any media outlets. “The state’s organized Labour is astounded that such recognized news organizations could be exploited to promote such an incorrect and misleading article. “With regards to the February percentage salaries paid, the state government, through Commissioner for Finance Asiwaju Ashiru, issued a press statement to explain why the February salary was paid in percentages, with the assurance that the balance would be paid in the preceding month for state civil servants. “Local government councils also compensated workers at that level with percentages. “How can the NLC chairman, Edoka, affirm that no percentage salary was paid when the government, via a news statement issued by the Commissioner for Finance, explained why percentage salaries were paid in the state?” “We would want to appeal to state workers to disregard the publication, which was intended to sow discord between the working and the leadership of organized Labour in the state. “Workers can rest certain that the Labour leadership will always put their welfare first. “We desire to warn media organizations in the country not to abandon the ethics of the journalism profession, emphasizing that a situation in which virtually all of the country’s top national dailies simultaneously published a false report for whatever financial gain is most terrible.” https://webtimes.com.ng/2022/03/22/salary-payment-you-are-a-liar-nlc-to-yahaya-bello/ |
By Josephine Isaac In continuation with its vision and strategy to ensure promptness, effectiveness and efficiency in the handling of emergency call services through the Emergency Communication Centres (ECC), the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has embarked on the deployment of Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) solution. This bolstering of the capacity of emergency response agencies is coming on the heels of Commission’s recent activation of the Taraba State ECC, thus bringing the total number of operational ECCs across the country to 25. The Taraba ECC joins the existing operational ECCs in 23 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). These ECCs are located in the FCT, Adamawa, Imo, Enugu, Ondo, Oyo, Kwara, Plateau, Ogun, Kano, Katsina, Ekiti, Cross River and Edo. Others are Kaduna, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Benue, Kogi, Bauchi, Osun, Zamfara, Kebbi and Gombe States. To further modernize the centres, the NCC initiated the deployment of CAD for the response agencies. The Commission has deployed the CAD system to the commands of six response agencies including the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), States Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), as well as in Ambulance and Fire Service operations in seven states. The seven states that have benefitted from the deployment of the CAD equipment to transform and upgrade their ECCs into an Internet protocol-based facility are Ogun, Cross River, Enugu, Kwara, Kano, Adamawa and FCT. The Commission plans to upgrade the remaining operational ECCs soon. On March 9, 2022, the Commission carried out the successful trial calls to test the effective implementation of the supply, installation and integration of the CAD system for Ambulance Service in Abuja, FCT for the recently-launched National Emergency Medical Services & Ambulance Systems (NEMSAS) of the Federal Ministry of Health. In a remark on the CAD deployment, the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of NCC, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, said the Commission will continue to modernize the ECCs from time to time to keep it effective and to respond appropriately to the dynamics of emergency cases, in keeping with its objective of enhancing security of lives and property in the country. “Over the years, the Centres have been transforming lives and helping many citizens to survive emergencies and other life-threatening circumstances through instant dispatch of emergency calls received to Emergency Response Agencies (ERA). This intervention has had very positive impact on the lives of Nigerians,” Danbatta said. The CAD is an automated dispatch software solution deployed for the seamless transmission of calls from the ECC to the relevant ERAs via the click of a button on the Call Agent’s System. The Nigerian Communications Commission established the EEC project in 2005 in deference to Federal Executive Council directive. The Commission has also taken the establishment and effective operations of the Centres across the country as a matter of priority in keeping with Sections 107 (3) A and B, of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCA) 2003. https://webtimes.com.ng/2022/03/16/ncc-upgrades-emergency-communications-centres-as-operational-centres-increase-to-25/ Cc: lalasticlala, Mynd44, OAM4J |

Truvelisback:To a large extent, yes! Every year, farmers prefer to sell 2 big tubers of yam for $150 (75,000 NGN) than to sell 7 tubers for 6,000 NGN to local buyers. Same thing goes for bags of cassava, maize and many others. This has affected the prices of food items in the market as many exporters continue to buy straight from the farms, hoard and sell higher in hard currencies. If the government can eliminate the issue of middlemen, half of our food insecurity issue will be gone. |
Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Niyi Adebayo has directed that the validity period of licenses for operators in free trade zone areas be increased to five years. The Minister gave the directive at a Stakeholders Forum Organised by the Nigeria Economic Zones Association on Thursday in Lagos with the theme : “Streamlining Free Zone Operations for Global Competitiveness””. Adebayo noted that the ministry had in 2020 temporarily suspended the issuance of new free trade zone licenses, due to the need to overhaul the system. He, however, stressed that yearly returns must be made by the operators following the directive on license expansion. The Minister also tasked the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) and the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority to fully digitalise its operations before the end of the year. He reiterated government’s commitment to ensuring a more harmonised operating system for all stakeholders in the free trade zones across the country. Adebayo added that the Federal Government was aggressively pursuing brilliant ways of driving industrialisation through the efficient and effective operationalization of the free trade zones Earlier, the Managing Director of NEPZA, Prof. Adesoji Adesugba called on the stakeholders to come together to collectively work in achieving the various objectives of the free trade zone scheme. He revealed that over $25 billion had come in through the scheme so far and lauded the Federal Government for the 50 megawatts of electricity allotted to the free zone. In a remark, the Executive Director, Nigeria Economic Zones Association, Mr Toyin Elegbede emphasized the need for sensitization of stakeholders and interested investors to enable them have a better understanding of operations under the free trade zones. Some free trade zone stakeholders and other speakers at the event stressed the need for various intervention in line with international best practices to address the challenges facing special economic zones operators in Nigeria. https://webtimes.com.ng/2022/03/11/free-trade-zones-nigerian-government-increases-license-validity-to-five-years/

Foreigners cannot buy agricultural products directly from farmers in Nigeria. It said only approved and registered local purchasing agencies may now purchase directly from farmers in the nation. A ban on foreigners and their agents buying agricultural products at the farm gate was authorized on Wednesday by the Federal Executive Council. To purchase directly from farmers in Nigeria, only licensed and registered local purchasing agencies may do so. Niyi Adebayo, Minister of Industry, Commerce and Investment, claimed foreigners were rushing to farm gates to purchase products at cheap rates, preventing farmers from continuing their trade. “After the FEC approves the new Policy, the Attorney-General will create a bill that will be referred to NASS. “We will also employ Commodity Associations, which the farmers belong to,” he stated. The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) national president, Ibrahim Kabir, applauded the decision, citing the low prices foreign intermediaries pay impoverished farmers at the field gate. “I fully endorse the government's action,” he stated. “I know that in Kano, some Lebanese and Chinese purchase from our farms. Mr Kabir said that farmers sell at a low bottom price at the farm gate but if you sell straight at the market, you make little gains. But several Nigerians are anxious about the new policy's execution. The ruling may limit the market, some say. “Let the market work freely. Let go of everyone who knows the way. “Local farmers should be permitted to sell directly to worldwide markets,” stated Ahmed Tijjani on Twitter. https://webtimes.com.ng/2022/03/11/rising-food-prices-nigerian-government-bans-foreigners-from-buying-farm-produce-from-farmers/ |

You should change it especially when your start to perceive choking smell from you gearbox oil. Or change it when the level of your transmission oil drops below the usual marked point. Also when your gear transmission is not selecting smoothly. |
