Nice nice. Btw do you guys know that Kenya has the FASTEST AVERAGE internet speeds in AFRICA clocking in at 15mbps. We now have residential connections of upto 250mbps. I am surfing from a 60mbps link from my house. We are ranked at number 21 in the world and this is why we are an ICT Powerhouse.

Here is a reference to the study.

What do you mean there are never blackouts, there are blackouts all over Eastlands common dude.

Are they as many as those in the Lagos CBD...Lol? There are as few as 5 blackouts a month in a low income neighbourhood as Eastlands while Victoria Island and even Lekki doesn't have constant power on ANY day of the week..Lol..Over 30 blackouts a month. I can only pray for low income neighbourhoods like Yaba

Nigeria is a funny country. Claims to have used all their electricity on industrialization yet they import almost everything, they have no power in their homes. Godamn...Even a 5 star hotel can't keep lights on for 24hrs a day, what about a common citizen?? Funny thing is that all these big buildings being shown here are so noisy due to constant humming of generators...lol

The sooner you come to terms that local cartels who are vendors of generators and oil are behind your low access to electricity that is when you will get somewhere.

You see why Nigerians are called loud mouths throughout the entire world. You have been clearly told the last world Bank survey was in 2012. The stats I have given you were by the company in charge of power distribution throughout Kenya and they were 2016 stats. Don't be an arrogant loud mouth broda

@obaaderemi. you are right 9ja is not getting it right, it is also not right comparing it with latvia grin I open the link. it world bank data so it quiet dependable and factual. Nigeria electricity deficit 73 million according to the link, kenya electricity deficit 33 million. you c the kenya value is much higher in respect to their population of 44.5 million more than half the kenyan population is affected with electricity deficit.Meanwhile Nigerian has a population of 174 million with 73 populace affected with electricity deficit not up to half. If u think nigeria is a poo then kenya is a poo square times poo square grin

That is outdated data. Here is fresh factual data.

60℅ of Kenyans have access to power. And btw there are never blackouts here. Maybe about a maximum of 5 blackouts a year that last maybe 30mins or less. In fact if you live in the major cities this is even less. The current regime has done a lot in relation to developing power access. In fact these days you can walk into a mud hut in some very remote villages and be shocked they have power

Kenya is connecting 1m people a year to the national grid. That has to be applauded.

http://www.nation.co.ke/oped/Opinion/kenya-electricity-access-rate-now-at-a-historic-sixty-per-cent-/440808-3307998-p0whfa/index.html

Arguably the fastest connection rate in the region, we have since connected an additional 2.6 million households, raising our customer base from 2,261,064 in March, 2013 to 4,890,373 in June, 2016, representing a growth of 116 per cent. This has raised the country’s electricity access rate from 27 per cent three years ago to 60 per cent by the end of June this year.

Oh my, very enlightening response.
Are the descendants of these Nubians still there in Kibera or they left? What about the other Africans who came to Kibera later on? Are they from indigenous kenyan tribes? If yes, can they still trace their native villages in Kenya?

You are very correct, giving a pretty house to a jobless slum dweller is somehow unuseful, I think the best way to liberate people from the slums is to get them gainfully employed with well paying Jobs in the main city.

You have told me about Kibera, what about Mathare and the others? I heard Mathare is even bigger than Kibera?

Let me begin by telling you this. The slum population is not as much as you think. According to our latest census, Kibera had a population of 270,000 people and Mathare 80,000 while NGOs used to say that Kibera has over 1m people.. Lol

You see the way NGOs make money is by inflating actual statistics to get more donor money from international associations. Same way NGOs always portray Africa as a continent where everybody is either dying from AIDS or starving. Then when they come to Nigeria for instance they will take pictures of the worst parts and send it to their donors. While we cannot deny there are problems, some people are out to benefit from the problems and would never like an area to grow. So the said NGOs will pay themselves hefty salaries with your money and live in the best of suburbs then go and do a simple cleaning exercise and that is it.

The slum rehabilitation program was started by the government to offer cheap and affordable formal housing to slum dwellers. Motion of the program has been quite slow due to some people that would make loses if the upgrade plan was to be fully effected and will pay some people small sums to protest the move.

What brings u to Nigeria specifically? Am curious.

About Nigerian pidgin, i don't think Lagosians even speak real Nigerian pidgin cos yoruba is the street language in many parts of Lagos, and Lagos pidgin is mixed with yoruba a lot.
If u want to hear real Nigerian pidgin, i think you should visit Nigerian cities like Warri, Benin and Port harcourt (south-south Nigeria), where the language originated. This is where you find the best pidgin speakers, many who speak it as a first language and their major language at home, it is fast displacing their native languages over here.
Infact if u hear real Warri Pidgin english, u may not be able to pick a single word out. We just don't have enough movie producers from South-south Nigeria to promote Pidgin language movie industry. So u only hear some good pidgin in our musics. Our govt is not interested in promoting the language if not it would have had a greater international image by now.

On the part of history, even though we offer social studies as a subject from our Primary school levels, i agree that we really do not learn about African peoples and cultures. Only those that offer history as a subject in senior secondary schools have a chance to learning that. I think our educational authorities really need to work on that aspect.

My company scales operations for large tech companies or tech departments of companies e.g. Tells, Large banks and insurance companies, betting companies etc. We advise and implement large network systems, horizontal scaling of servers and things of that kind.

Unfortunately there is no time to visit all those cities shocked! I will be at Lagos then Abuja for a few weeks since all the important companies are usually headquartered in Lagos especially.

Maybe pidgin is not promoted since it is seen as an urbane but developing language akin to Kenya's Sheng?

@iblawi,iansweet and co don't mind all this kanyans, I think they actually admire we Nigerians. I wonder what I will be doing on a Kenyan forum when I neither stay there or even plan on going there
So the other day I decided to check out what Kenyan music looks and a Kenyan: Akothee in her song titled benefactor sang in very fluent Nigerian pidgin English and the so called song is a top ten song over there
@whoever I am quoting I have read countless articles of how Kenyans are becoming more interested in pidgin English. I wonder why you are telling lies here. Nigerian influence is massive in Africa ( kenya inclusive) due to our movies, music, political strengths and co. you must be one self hating Kenyan to deny this facts, I wonder why you guys hate Nigerians way e no even send una one bit. the best we Nigerians know about Kenya is that it's a country in Africa (honestly speaking)

@pazienza your life must really suck and the way you dey hawk Igbo matters for head like bread is really worrisome, you go around nairaland portraying igbos in bad light when igbos are from this in reality smh

First off I will address why I came to this forum. I am here because I have been to Nigeria on business and I am going to be there again on February. So I like being abreast with what is going on there. Security, how I am going to entertain myself etc since I will be there for a while. I have seen several Nigerians on the Kenyan forum as well.

Second, Kenyans do not admire anything about your politics and economics. And I am being honest. African politics is riddled with corruption, greed etc so no one looks upto you on that.

Now entertainment(music and movies) is one this that every African country admires about Nigeria. The industry is very mature and local content production and consumption has been promoted so much. For Kenya we have a lot of imported music even though we have local music. You can listen to Nigerian music, South African Kwaito, Ghanaian music, Congolese music in diverse clubs.

About Kenyans being interested in pidgin English, it's just from your music. The only terms Kenyans know are Oga, Big Broda and that's it. In fact on my first trip to Lagos I thought I knew the gist of pidgin and could easily understand it since it has a lot of English but when I got to Lagos is when I realized it is so deep.

About Nigerians not knowing anything about Kenya while Kenyans know a thing or 2 about Nigeria. In the Kenyan education system, you have to undertake a subject called Social Studies from around age 4-14. There you are taught about majority of the African countries, their history, geography and demography. In fact we learn about your big 3 tribes at around class 7(age 13). And it is not only Nigeria, we learn about Congo, South Africa, Senegal, Mozambique,Zimbabwe etc. And these are tested in the exams. If you don't belive me ask me to send you pictures of some Kenyan textbooks and I will happily oblige. On the high school level if you specialize on History as a subject is gets even deeper

There are things we would like to borrow from you and there are other influences we also do not want borrowed

You are not far from the truth. Lighter skinned people tend to be more adored by people in tropical areas. With time i think this trend will change cos take US for instance, many dark skinned people have proven that dark skin can be equally beautiful when well maintained.

But a lot of Africans also appreciate dark skinned people or don't you think? The only black african women to win the miss world and the miss universe titles from Nigeria and Angola werr not light skinned, they were dark to medium chocolate skinned and they were crowned in their respective countries before they went to represent their own countries at the world level. I dont know about Kenya but the current titles of the Miss Nigeria is not held by a light skinned lady.

As for Lupitia i admire her but i think there are dark skinned African and African-american ladies who look better than her, e.g Somalia's Iman, Nigeria's Genevieve Nnaji and many others.

The reason why ladies of lighter complexion are more popular by Africans is simply a case of supply and demand. There are more naturally dark ladies than light ones since we are blacks hence a lighter shade is rare and hence more glorified.

I have been to a country like Namibia where most ladies are usually very slim and a lot of men seem to love ladies that are more endowed.

If there is excess supply of one this, people will just want what is rarer and that is just a law of the universe.

As for Lupita, she has been recognized as a most beautiful woman not only because of her looks but because of how she caries herself and what she has achieved. For example I have never heard of the ladies you have mentioned maybe I have seen them but I don't know them but Lupita is a household name. She has won an Oscar, champions for conservation of elephants, has been interviewed in the most popular talk shows in the US(Ellen etc), her dressing options have been discussed so much in Hollywood and has graced the cover of Vogue magazine 3 times which is a feat very many celebrities even American ones have not achieved !! Her speech at the Oscar's has words that have been echoed by so many people. I will quote the last words 'When I look down at this golden statue, may it remind me and every little child that no matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid. Thank you.'

She has won an Oscar. How many Africans have an Oscar on their belt? Even for the entire black race there are so few winners. That is what makes her great. She has a brilliant and very radiant personality that makes her look very sexy. Just listen to one of her interviews and you will know why.

With regards to the Miss World events. I believe it is next to impossible for a light skin African lady to win the title. Why? Because to be honest Portericans and the Latinos would look more beautiful than a light skinned African model. The dark shade also represents authenticity since we are a black race and hence the originality of Africa is represented.

Hmm, so i guess you'd be able to tell me which Kenyan tribes these individual handsome Kenyan men below are from cheesy.
I find this kind of Kenyan faces very attractive, especially this first man.

It is hard to know since there are 42 different communities. But here are some stereotypes that are very popular and most of the times true according to Kenyans.

The Luo are the most flamboyant community particularly the men. Dress nicely and drive the nicest cars regardless to the situation of their wallets and most of the ones in cities only speak English. They are usually well built and are perhaps the darkest community in Kenya.

The Luhyia are the most heavily built group and everyone jokes about how they like to eat. They contribute the largest number of players on our national rugby team. There is a joke that a Luhyia never gets full, it's the food that usually finishes. Their men are rumored to be the best in bed and their women usually have the behinds that Kenya is known for... Lol. Usually dark but not anywhere near the Luo

The Kikuyu. The most business minded community and the richest community. Everyone says they love money way too much.. Lol. You will find them running majority of the large businesses across all areas in Kenya. Make for good business partners but when crossed will go to all ends of the earth to exact revenge. Majority are light skinned.

The Kalenjins. Probably 90% of the athletes you have seen from Kenya marathon etc come from here. They are tall and dark. They also make up for majority of the army and the police and any comedian mimicking the police will use a Kalenjins accent

The Kambas. Rumored to have the best women in bed. It is very rare to see a dark Kamba. Men are famous for poor taste in fashion with too much passion on bright colors especially yellow for some weird reason.

The Maasai. Tall and light skinned usually. Their women especially the ones that live in the city are the model types because they are very tall and slender. Very similar to Samburu and Borana.

The Taita and other coastal tribes. Rumored to make for the best wife material since they are arguably the best cooks and the most beautiful. Generally light in color and love making is only rivaled by Kamba women.

The Meru and Kisii. Very similar though they live in totally different geographical areas. Most famous for their short temper and are definitely not one to cross on a personal level. I come from one of these though.. Hehe

The current generation of Nigerians do not necessarily vote with regards to ethnicity. I'll admit and say it is rife. Especially with Easterners and Northerners especially.

Although for Northerners it's more religious than tribal. This is why many movements are pushing for fiscal federalism. Where all 36 states will have a constitution.

I just used Yoruba and Hausa so that it is easier for Nigerians to understand. Here voting is tribal. No one really gives a hoot about religion. So you will never be passed on a promotion, secluded on the basis of religion unless you are a devil worshipper. Lol.. For people whose belief on Christianity is pretentious at most, everybody fears Illuminati and the likes. So you will not be accepted

Ok thanks for the enlightenment.
Now i get the picture better.
What about Rwanda and Burundi? How well have they adopted swahili? Also, since they are french speaking, how well do u guys relate with them.

Yes i have seen a couple of Taraab music and musicians, the Indian influence appears strong in the culture. Even many of them look mixed race.
It seems like many Tanzanians are mixed race? Cos i see many of them who look like they have some Indian or Arab blood even though they are still black.

Also i have observed that tribalism seems to be less of an issue in Tanzania compared to Kenya or Uganda, infact i was so shocked when i knew that Tanzania is religiously half muslims half christians and has many ethnic groups like Nigeria yet hardly any case of religious or tribal conflicts.

I'd also like to know your own Kenyan ethnic group?

Most Kenyans do not know a thing or two about Burundi. It's just like that neighbour you never speak to. Not because you hate them but because their is very little in common with you. Plus Burundi has some civil unrest right now.

Now Rwanda is Kenya's best ally in East Africa. Their Swahili is extremely different perhaps since they don't speak it very actively opting for French and Kinywaranda most of the time. I have been to Rwanda and could barely understand their Swahili. Also a very small percentage of their population speaks Swahili. I would compare that with the number of Tanzanians speaking fluent English, they are there but extremely difficult to find and are usually the ones that travel a lot to other countries.

Tanzania has no notion of tribal conflicts despite having more communities that Kenya due to socialism which was introduced by their first president. They adopted Swahili as the only language and even all their subjects were taught in Swahili in school. This led to tribal languages becoming redundant after sometime and eventually most of the cultural tribal things were eroded which led to a more united people since there is nothing going like I am Yorba, you are Hausa kind of things.

For Kenya, Swahili was adopted as a national language to enable people from different communities to be able to communicate at the same time Kenyans continued with their tribal languages as well. SWAHILI was just a plus. Now this easened communications since all Kenyans speak Swahili and is the main language in cities but the tribal alignment was never rid of. So at times political differences will often lead tribes to form alliances against each other. For example, when there is an election and all people in Southern Nigeria, yoruba etc vote for someone from the south and the Northern tribes, Hausa etc only vote for Hausa leaders. Tribes that have larger populations e.g. Kikuyu, Kalenjins and Luo have the larger say. The advantage is that we were able to retain our cultures but the disadvantages is that this cultural differences are exploited by politicians for their own gain. There is nothing of the sort in Tanzania

There are no religious conflicts in Kenya as well. Majority of Kenyans are Christians by name but from day to day activities behave like there is no religion e.g. Never attend church or even read the Bible after finishing school etc. Sort of like the way the US is. A lot of people say they believe in religion but in reality don't care much about it though if you ask them do you believe in Jesus they will say yes cheesy

Majority of schools actually will have a church and a mosque. Those that don't have resources to build will usually use different places in the school to accommodate both. For instance I attended a Catholic missionary school in lower level but the Muslims were let to be on their own.

Pls, all Kenyans here are free to ask me (i don't know about other Nigerians here) absolutely any questions, i promise to answer to my best knowledge.

My second question to Kenyans here

I believed that Tanzanians were the first or original owners of the swahili language which later spread to Kenya and other areas but you guys corrected me that Swahili evolved simultaneously along all east African countries at the same time.
So i would sincerely like to know pls, how come almost all Tanzanians are very fluent in swahili and majority have adopted it as their first language? compared to Kenya and Uganda where only about 2/3 and 1/2 speak swahili?

Lately, i have been watching a lot of East African music and i must admit that i have come to start falling in love with East African music, just that i think my love is one-sided and it is mostly towards Tanzania (Bongo) music.

(No offence pls) I have discovered that Tanzanians speak and sing in swahili in a lovelier, sweeter and more attractive tone than other east Africans. Pls why is this? Their swahili sometimes have this Indian and middle eastern flavour the way they sing it at times. There are about 10 Tanzanian musicians am a big fan of, Uganda about 5 of them while in Kenya i think i love Sauti sol and a duo group (i think Gabu & Frasha).

KenyanStar, MtuSuper, Muafrika2, kikuyu1, PissedYagami, gallivant, NairobiWalker.

About Swahili I believe the origins have been explained. People in coastal kenya speak same with Tanzanians and Lamu on the Kenyan North coast is probably the most Swahili a town can get... In terms of food, architecture, history etc

Now Kenya has 42 tribes though divided into 3 large groups, Bantus, Cushites and Nilotes. Cushites live in the drier parts of the country(North Eastern and Northern Kenya). Bantus live in the wetter areas since they were predominantly farmers. Nilotes live in the rift Valley and comprise of Kalenjins; who form majority of the athletes you see representing Kenya and the famous Maasai.

All Kenyans start speaking in their tribal language. So if you go to a Kikuyu town you will get many people speak Kikuyu. If you are Maasai for example you speak in Swahili everyone will understand you from a baby to an elderly person.

Then English is also taught in schools from kindergarten level and is the official language so everyone knows it.

The Kenyan closest relative to Nigerian pidgin English has to be Sheng not Swahili. Sheng is urbanized swahili which is found in most Kenyan songs. It is a mix of Swahili, English and some tribal languages. It emerged from Nairobi and is more popular in cities. It was popularized by Kenyan HipHop and is mostly popular among young people who usually come up with the most creative of words. It is steadily evolving which means vocabulary gets out of date/fashion very soon and doesn't become cool anymore once a cooler term comes up.

Swahili is taught in schools and when writing essays and every student has to use correct Swahili. But outside classrooms most students default to the 'cooler' sheng. Just think of how an HipHop artist like Kanye West for instance would use proper English in a formal place and urbane English(what's poppin, Holla, bro, my Nigga etc) when hanging out. Now Tanzania has nothing like this and everybody always uses proper Swahili. Same with the coastal region in Kenya

I wish to learn more about east Africa and i have some sincere questions for Kenyans here (from an open heart)

My first question
Pls, I want to know how functional the east African community of states is.
We in west Africa have ECOWAS, although ecowas is very functional and they have really been trying to make west africa united but sincerely i really do not like the way ecowas is working.
Still on EAC, i'd like to know why Horn African countries (Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti) are not part of EAC.

Also, i once read somewhere that there are plans by the EAC to form a united single country. How true is this please? I really love the idea. I have always admired the way majority of east africans (excluding horners) have been united by the swahili language.

KenyanStar, MtuSuper, Muafrika2, kikuyu1, PissedYagami, gallivant, NairobiWalker

To be honest the East Africa Community mainly sucks because of Tanzania.

Kenya is a very capitalistic state and Tanzania is still reeling from effects of extreme socialism that were advocated by its first president Nyerere who was a great president btw

The effect is like trying to get USA(very capitalistic) and Russia(recovering from communism) to effect the same beliefs and be part of the same community. So all the time decisions on policies will take forever will Kenya being aggressive and Tanzania very passive on the implementation or passing of any bills or laws.

Kenya gets along very well with Rwanda especially.

The East Africa becoming one community is a fairy tale that is never going to happen any time soon.

Agric e-wallet reaches 14m
farmers, says Adesina
By Mohammed Kandi
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural
Development, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina said
that the electronic wallet system (e-wallet)
has recorded the name and location of at
least 14 million Nigerian farmers.
Adesina make this known recently at a
launch of Youth Employment in Agriculture
Program (YEAP) and the Fund for
Agricultural Finance in Nigeria in Abuja.
Recall that the e-wallet system was
deployed by the Agricultural and Rural
Development ministry in a bid to provide
farmers with subsidized farm inputs using
the mobile phone technology.
Adesina said: “Today, our e wallet system
has reached 14 million farmers, and we
have their names and locations. Nigeria is
the first in the world to develop and use e-
wallet to deliver farm input at scale and
several African countries are learning from
us. The agriculture sector has changed,
Nigeria is now export transparency.”
According to him, the country’s food
production had improved following the
launch of e-wallet system. “As a nation, we
have produced an additional 21 million MT
of food within the last 3 years. According
to the National Bureau of Statistics, food
imports declined from N 1.1 trillion ($ 6.7
billion) in 2009 to N 684 billion ($4.35
billion) in 2013 and continues to decline.”
He also informed that Nigeria was able to
achieve improvement in the agriculture
sector due to increased local food
production and reduction in food
importation, especially at a time of falling
oil prices and devaluation.
“Agriculture is now an exciting sector.
Today major local and international
investors are investing in this new
agriculture sector, with $5.6 billion in
investments. The number of seed
companies alone has risen from 5 to 80
within three years. And the banks are
lending to the sector more than ever
before,” the minister said.
He added that, “YEAP will develop a new
cadre of 740,000 market-oriented young
agricultural producers in rural areas.
These will be school leavers and rural
youth leaders and there will be 20,000 of
them per state of the federation.”
Adesina said: “YEAP will also develop 18,
500 university graduates who will be
formed into young agribusiness
entrepreneurs called “nagropreneurs”.
They will develop businesses along the
entire agricultural value chains, from the
farm, storage, processing and value
addition, financial services and logistics.”
The minister also assured that
government would support the youth in
accessing technical, entrepreneurial,
finance, business and marketing skills,
including land and link to major
agribusinesses.

Lol.. You see why I keep saying Nigerians are the most ignorant people walking on this continent.

Here are some countries that have adopted MPESA.
It has since expanded to Afghanistan, South Africa, India and in 2014 to Romania and in 2015 to Albania. M-Pesa allows users to deposit, withdraw, transfer money and pay for goods and services (Lipa na M-Pesa) easily with a mobile device.[2]

By June 2016, a total of 7 million M-Pesa accounts have been opened in Tanzania by Vodacom.

more than 56 million Africans currently have mobile money accounts. Across sub-Saharan Africa, more companies are trying to follow suit; 41 new operators launched in 2012 alone.

This thread has become too repetitive.

Here is why I Like Kenya.
We have accepted the issues we have and are working to solve them while Nigerians still have their heads in the sand and keep talking of how great they are yet this does not reflect on the common Nigerian.

Let us looks at some things. I gave very practical applications of how the government of Kenya has adopted technology and is even experimenting with some technologies that not many countries tries in the world are willing to at the moment e. G. Blockchain. Right now I can do a land registry search, company registration, driver license renewal, submit tax returns, get insurance etc all online. @ianSweet replies by producing a list of Nigerians who hold patents by creating new technologies. The sad fact is that for all people in the list she produced, there is NO single technology that has been adopted in anyway to create a successful startup or has changed the life of any ordinary Nigerian in Nigeria or wherever. But look at Kenya, Mpesa brought financial services to even the most marginalized communities living in the desert, mkopo solar provides power to people that have not been reached by the national grid etc. In a country whose 70% of the population lives below 1Usd per day we have the most successful startups being online shopping instead of agriculture... Lol

Despite many reports having been linked to here showing that 66% of people in Lagos are in a slum. Many Nigerians with the aim of national pride are willing to dispell Facts and pretend that slums are non existent and resort to posting endless pictures of slums they have googled to be in Nairobi. The sad fact was especially when they keep reiterating that Makoko has been completely destroyed yet I have seen Makoko with my own eyes thus year and several articles show that only a VERY SMALL part of Makoko was demolished. What is Kenya doing? We have slum upgrade plans that despite facing many hiccups and are slower than expected have worked for some slum dwellers.

About white and Indian masters. This is coming from a country where people are not proud of being black and even segregate and admonish other Africans for having a dark complexion... Lol. Majority of large companies in Nigeria have a lot of foreign shareholding including their iconic banks. Majority of construction projects in Nigeria like most developing African countries are by the Chinese but Nigeria is very quick to admonish Kenya when we have any debt or chinese funded operation :/ The level of hypocrisy is appaling

Misguided ambitions. Nigeria is exploring space technology yet it does not even have enough electrical power to provide 24hr electricity to any of it's residents sad
Nigeria is building a war ship at billions of naira but cannot tackle and finish the Boko Haram who of totally destroyed would lead to billions being injected into Nigeria by investors in the marginalized northern areas. If these billions were pumped into agriculture, such a green country with lots of rivers would stop importing basic necessities for its citizens e.g. Milk and other common produce.

Industrialization. Nigerians claim that their industries are the main reasons why they are lacking 24/7 power in their homes.. Lol. I mean what is the need for these industries if I am going to go home to a dark house on most nights.

Closing statements. Nigeria is the largest oil producer in Africa and the 5th largest in the world yet they cannot compare themselves with most of the top 10 oil producers in the world and majority of their refined oil is imported #sigh , Nigeria has the largest population in Africa(cheap labour) and hundreds of thousands of arable and fertile land but imports Extremely basic food products that can easily be grown, a country that admonishes other countries for accommodating people of other races while they practice the worst kind of racism I can think of, black on black racism, a country whose eyes are closed due to the fact that their big ignorant heads are too far up their asses to notice that their large GDP and a few rich men e.g. Dankote do not in any way show the success of their country if the common citizen still has no power, lives in a oil polluted environment(spills and smoke) and noise polluted environment due to generators, is more likely to die due to insecurity(Boko Haram in the northern states), is likely not to be paid in time even by a government employer(majority of the states have difficulty in paying workers on time). The ordinary citizen is also more likely to be out of a job(unemployment is at 13% and the recent 700000 applications for 500 Firs jobs is just a big shame). A country that struggles to finance a 20bn USD budget on a 500bn USD GDP is a joke of a country. I mean the Kenyan budget is 22bn USD for 45m Kenyans.

That said, in Kenya we also do have our problems and are working towards creating practical solutions(not a bunch of useless patents in some shelf) but the ability of Nigerians to ignore facts and official reports posted here just for national pride is just shocking and goes on to show the arrogant nature they are associated with or maybe a poor education system that would lead someone to disapprove UN reports and other official reports because they have never stepped out of their village or country

don't mind these jealous people!

They keep boasting to us that they have more power supply than we do have not knowing that their little 2000mw goes round the few people connected to the grid more because there aren't many industries.

We talk about our issues, while they don't talk about theirs. That's why they are ok with their govt giving them just 2000mw and distributing that little amount to just a few people in Nairobi and leaving the vast majority out in the dark.

Your industries are really not helping you because they are clearly not improving your living standards.

I am up country at a rural village 500km away from Nairobi for Christmas yet I have Internet and reliable 24/7 power and 4G internet. You are in Lagos breathing diesel fumes and struggling with Internet.. See the difference.

So they don't have scammers in Kenya? I feel like you Kenyans hallucinate some times. Are you telling me there was no crime in Kenya before Nigerians started going there? This does not mean foreigners should be doing scam too but really who are you to point fingers?

Nigerians, whores, drugs and smuggling might just me synonyms for each other.

Nigerians dominate drug trafficking especially coca inexpensive in SA - http://mg.co.za/article/2002-01-01-nigerians-dominate-cocaine-trade-in-sa

They are also dominate the prostitution industry in SA and Kenya. https://www.nairaland.com/342444/nigerians-south-africa-what-doing/1

They lead prostitution in Italy.

http://www.mjemagazine.com/60-of-prostitutes-in-belgian-towns-in-italian-are-nigerians/

We will not forget 419 scams which have given Nigeria a spotlight especially in Western worlds.. Lol

Even in Indonesia you are always trafficking drugs https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://www.africacradle.com/four-nigerians-executed-by-firing-squad-in-indonesia-over-drug-trafficking/&ved=0ahUKEwi01f6F_f3QAhXXFsAKHVQoCi84FBAWCBgwAA&usg=AFQjCNEWXr0jsGQJtwMJaK3-vgDsPa--qQ&sig2=IA2zm2VTeiMaJPFUmSvapw

Kenya is always deporting Nigerian drug traffickers. Now you see why no countries like you in their homeland?

You even mentioned doing weed in Kenya. Are you a drug traffickers sir? Is that what usually takes you to Kenya?

Kenya is a second home to me mehn, love the women, the 24 hour electricity, night life, fries, shashamani weed and no generator noise but there is certain cold attitude they have which is a turnoff

Hehehe... I see you know there is 24 hour electricity here unlike Nigeria. I also see you got a breathe of fresh air after years of inhaling generator fumes and loud generator noises.

I am sure you found our women with their conservative makeup and most of the times no make up at all a fresh breather from the bleached and caked up fashion designers of Lagos with their wigs..lol

Did the Kiunas not just get a private jet?

Those behaviours have been derived from Nigeria. That is why Nigerian pastors come to fetch some thieves here and mentor them to their ways. Kiuna spends a lot of time in Nigeria.

In fact if you look at Top 10 richest pastors in Africa they are all Nigerian.

You are have got to be the dumbest contributor on this thread. Where do you think Afropolitan feminism started? Funmilayo Rabsome-Kuti, Chimaamanda, Aba women's riot? Do our research before you make statements like this.

Ati Naija men prefer their women in the kitchen. If that were true, Kenyan women (who are the most lousy cooks on the continent) would never like Naija men.

African women prefer Nigerian men because they show women respect and affection without expecting sex in return, its in our nature, our men are elite, we ain't on the same intellectual plane, so move on.

Nigerian men only Bleep Kenyan whores. e.g.. Vera Sidika and Huddah Monroe. They are seen as loud, arrogant and criminals by other African countries. Due to their lack of communication skills, they only go for women that will be with them for money.

Tell her to go to the kitchen where Nigerian men believe their women should be.. Lol

Or at the salon posting pictures of dresses coz the best a woman can do in Nigeria has to be fashion or even in the church where Nigerian women have been made so gullible to enrich your already rich pastors. .. Hahahaha

I have been viewing this thread from the beginning and the only aspect which i can clearly agree that Kenyans beat Nigeria is tourism & Airline transportation.

In aspects like Sports, Military and Power supply i'd say it's a tie.
(Kenyans will argue about power supply but they should not forget that even they have more stable power supply, Nigeria's power supply meets 99% of it's citizens while in Kenya only 60% of it's citizens have access to power supply).

Nigeria is just far ahead of Kenya in :-

1) Economic size and GDP per capital (no need to explain)

2) Technology and ICT

3) Entertainment industry (East africa combined cannot match Nigeria here)

4) Presence of Slums (it will take Kenya another 50 years to have a clean and sane city the size of Abuja with no single slum, even Capetown has slums).

5) Urbanization (Nigeria is 10 times more urbanized than Kenya).

6) Individual achievements and success (no single billionaire in Kenya, even with all the Indians & whites running the economy)

7) Industrialization.

Banking sector (no comparison).

9) Educational sector
(Nigeria is better here because we have over a dozen universities than can be ranked well here in Africa unlike Kenya with only 2 or 3 standard universities and Nigerian schools are damn cheap with school fees as low as $100 per session making it accesible to even the poorest people)

10) A more refined and beautiful African culture
(The only culture Kenya seems to have is that of the savage masais. Imagine Kenyans wearing western clothes to both traditional and social gatherings, so sad).

11) Private sector
(Almost every good thing in Kenya is fully or partly owned by the govt. A single person in Nigeria is building the world's biggest refinery, infact all the achievements of the top 100 richest Kenyans put together- both Indians, whites and blacks cannot equal this Nigerian individual giant, not to talk of others in Nigeria)

12) Rich history
Infact when talking about rich history in Africa, Kenya is just nowhere to be found. Nigeria had many great empires and kingdoms in pre colonial africa, our people were trading across the world already, some of us were already reading and writing and when the colonial masters came they were shocked and they even looted our artefacts to their own country while all Kenyans were still running Unclad in forests at that time drinking animal blood.

So many more points which i will continue to list.

90m Nigerians have no access to power http://qz.com/573325/nigeria-is-betting-on-solar-power-to-reach-a-million-homes-without-access-to-the-grid/

90m people is double the population of Kenya.

ICT and Technology Kenya Is Way ahead of you... Lol

We have Mpesa which is the largest African innovation to date. We also have mkopa solar and ushahidi the later of which has been used to monitor even the US elections, used in Haiti during the earthquake and Japan for disaster evasion.

Most houses that don't have electricity are powered by mkopa solar but are still not recognized as being on the local power grid

In fact, Nairobi's iHub is the largest and most popular technology hub in Africa. Cc hub in Lagos is a small hub with no windows and no parking.. Lol. I have been there a number of times.

We have extremely cheap fiber Internet connections. With as little as 5Usd you can get unlimited 5mbps of Internet per month from Able wireless.

In fact, there is NO creativity in Nigeria only copy and paste ideas. The only technology that Nigeria is known for is a million online stores(Jumia, Konga and the likes) and dozens of blogs. Andela is one of the extremely few companies to become successful on another field but even then they had to incorporate the company in the USA to have any success.. Lol. All the top leaders are not even in Nigeria.

Our stock exchange market is smaller than the Nigerian securities exchange but more automated. We also have more comprehensive companies like Abacus, valuraha, wazua, mystocks etc for analyzing exchange data at a subscription fee affordable to the common citizen compared to Nigeria. It is in fact nowadays easier to invest in our exchange for a beginner compared to the Nigerian one.

We also lead in technology in Agriculture with things like twiga foods, mfarm etc

TAX returns are ONLY filled online. All exam records for students in primary, secondary/high school and university are ONLY obtained online even public schools including admission letters nowadays.

We are recently even introducing laptops to all public primary schools to kids aged 4-13 totally free of charge since primary school education is totally free here. All secondary schools have computer labs.

One of our universities, Jkuat assembles their own laptops, Taifa laptops that are used by over 50,000 students

Our government is currently experimenting with blockchain technology which powers bitcoin for the education system to curb falsified certificates and for the lands ministry to curb falsified title deeds. This is next level shit not done by any regime in the world. Our largest bank by customer base, Equity, is also experimenting with bit coin. We also have successful startups, like Bitpesa that deal in bit coin.

Even in fields like advertisements we lead with the largest indigenous African digital marketing company that IPOed ages ago, Scangroup.

When it comes to hosting, we have the largest and most comprehensive local hosting services e.g. Node Africa. The recently collapsed Angani due to board room wrangles

Check out something like the Nairobi Dev school led by a 19yr old Martha Chelimo that sought to teach young people about tech and get work for them long before Andela came to existence. This was featured in so many publications and even got her to meet a lot of visionaries including Bill Gates.

We have way more successful women in technology and larger women outreach programs in this space with some of the largest startups e.g. Moringa school, Nds, WezaTele and many others being led by women.

Almost all tech companies in Uganda and the largest tech companies in Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda upto Mozambique are owned by Kenyans.

There is a reason why Kenya is known as the Silicon Savannah.

Hahahahaha.. This is my field and I come to consult for some of your largest tech companies in Lagos so I know what the Bleep I am saying.

Even our mobile banking is more advanced than in Nigerian despite Nigeria having larger banks. I can apply for a loan of as much as 30000USD on my banking app and have it today. Loans of small sums like 500Usd I get automatically within 10secs of applying

Just stick to uploading pictures of bleached women with excess makeup in ridiculous gowns

The largest gambling company in Africa sport Pesa is Kenyan. You fucking stupid dimwit, are KFC and Chicken Inn Nigerian?

There are so many large locally owned hotels especially by politicians. All big banks are Kenyan. In fact local companies are seeking to acquire Barclay's kenya since they are exiting African market. Standard chartered is a diminishing colonial relic
