So much ado about Dangote getting forex to build a cement factory in Congo. If not from the CBN, where was he going to get the forex from?.... All the foreign companies that set-up plants in Nigeria, e.g. etisalat, mtn, etc, don't they get their forex from their home countries?... So what exactly is the big deal about Dangote getting forex from the CBN to set-up a plant in congo which would return forex to Nigeria?.... Besides, as at the time he got the forex from CBN, we didn't have the large disparity between official and parallel market rates, so what's the biggie?

As for the case of Dangote building this road, I dont think I have any problem with this. I do not pass this road, but I'm sure there are hundreds of thousands who pass through this road on a daily basis who would be exceedingly happy with this development. I can bet you, if we allow the FG to take those taxes and fix that road, the road might remain the way it is for the next 10 years. We need to undeerstand that we have irresponsible leadership in Nigeria and anything to bring ensure infrastructural development, be it toll gates or tax incentives would be beneficial to the masses. On this one, it's not about what is right, it's rather about what is necessary.
I agree, I'm not objecting like it's coming across, i just feel that 30% is sorta high, maybe 10%....

&i have a personal stake in that road, as a SWerner who lives in FCT, it would so delight me... wink

@ bolded. Dangote annual TURNOVER is not yet up to a trillion naira talkless profit. Providing water, local roads, or school for the environs where his factories are, is understandable CSR but constructing interstates trunk A national road? Mba.

The depot owners along Apapa axis are not asked to reconstruct Apapa expressroad, why should Dangote?
Relax, I'm not a Dangote hater, he does what any sane business person would!!!

His company made 1trillion profit for him in 5yrs, I didn't dream it up, they put out a press release... will get a more compact link later, "manage" this for now.

Deen77

It's called social responsibility, it's global best practice, we are used to so little that just a little more feels like so much more!!

Dangote made a trillion naira profit and only paid 12bn as tax, which translates to 1%! Where else does that happen but this banana republic?

BTW, he is getting CBN forex for his Congo cement factory, does that sound like it's ok to you?

I still maintain, fixing that road is his responsibility!!

Politics › Re: A Correction and the truth on bayelsans being lazy by modath(f): 8:49pm On May 18, 2016
I'm not one to make blanket generalization about people especially when I know only a handful, but the general perception of the kind of person one would expect the average riverine male to be is a caricature, it is not sweet or rosy but it's the narrative...

However, I've known two females of Ijaw extraction and they are strong fierce females, the males, only from the distance..

I disagree that government is at fault, people who won't do right won't do right, they just rely on flimsy excuses as a crutch..I gave an example that a friend relayed to me, a community refused elementary school because the elders children were to old for basic education and the youths didn't have children to enroll, so they "shared" the money & everybody went away happy!

How is that the fault of the government??

Gov Dickson may have been right or wrong but it was totally "unstatemanly" of him to throw the totality of his people under a high speed train to be publicly jeered and maligned...

I can't shake off the feeling that he is doing this so his inability to pay salary for 5mths despite 13% would no longer be the headline.. The catchphrase now isn't Dickson is an incompetent leader, it is now his people are lazy drunkards who leech off the resources of the state...
Politics › Re: Block the Sale of Warplanes to Nigeria-New York Times Editorial Board by modath(f): 6:58pm On May 18, 2016
Mr. Buhari is an improvement over his disastrous predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan,
America would know!! lipsrsealed

and is fighting Boko Haram, the Islamist extremists who have terrorized the region. But he has not done enough to end corruption and respond to charges that the army has committed war crimes in its fight against the group. Selling him the planes now would be a mistake.
We know but all efforts are being sabotaged by some who claim it is mere propaganda, persecution of their loyalists & a way of digging into election funds source.. cool

Amnesty International says that during the army’s scorched-earth response to Boko Haram between 2011 and 2015, more than 8,200 civilians were murdered, starved or tortured to death.
Again, America would know...

American officials even hesitated to share intelligence with the military, fearing it had been infiltrated by Boko Haram. That wariness has eased and American officials say they are now working with some Nigerian counterparts.
Sambo Dasuki and his boss are in a better position to explain this...

Mr. Buhari will need more than weapons. He has to get serious about improving governance and providing jobs, roads and services in every region of Nigeria.
The highlighted are needed more than the weapons but without the weapons, there wont be peace of mind to sit back and enjoy them...
