A lot has been written about Ojota and how Fashola and Tinubu “funded” the big movement. The truth is farther from that lie.Pastor Bakare and I met Fashola once during the protests where he appealed that we should not allow a breakdown of law and order so that the Federal Government would not declare an emergency in Lagos. We didn’t take a dime from him.We had no interaction with Tinubu in anyway. A Nigerian billionaire who lived abroad who offered to support the mvement was told by Pastor Bakare that we could afford to sponsor what we were doing. All we spent for the five days that shook the world was N7.5million and not one kobo of it came from any external source. This says a whole looooooooottttttt!!!!!!! |
Politics › Yinka Odumakin; " Count Me Out Of Occupy Nigeria 2.0" by modath(op): 9:11am On May 17, 2016 |
WHILE I join other well-meaning Nigerians to condemn in the strongest terms, the recent insensitive, wicked and punitive increase in the price of petrol to officially N145 per litre,I have to tell all those who have called on me to be part of providing leadership for resistance to the measure to perish the thought.
My heart is with the conned people of Nigeria as they fight this unpopular act of government but my body will not be in their midst. Having spent 30 years of my life in the struggle against the manipulation of the people on this issue of “fuel subsidy”. I am fully persuaded that I have to deploy my energy to a nobler cause. I have to take public stand in view of the various calls, messages, and verbal requests that have come to me since the Federal Government decided to sentence Nigerians to more hardship by increasing the pump price (don’t soak the “deregulation” lie). My provoking encounter with a gentleman 2I never knew at an intersection in Abuja on Friday whom I asked for direction is the last straw. The man entered his car and offered to lead me to the road I asked for and then said “Mr Odumakin, please we are waiting for your leadership against this fuel price regime. Help me tell Madam too…”
..............
After leaving school,I have participated in so many protests against “subsidy removal”. I recall the days of Obasanjo when Adams Oshiomole as NLC President would ostensibly have agreed with the government on pump price and they would fix something higher. The demagogue would then led the country to protest.Whenever it was time to decide on strike,he would allow us radicals to speak without inhibitions but after two or three days of protest he would go for “negotiation”.By the time he summons the meeting to call off the strike to accept the offer from government,he would ensure that only his henchmen are allowed to speak in favor of strike “suspension.”
The most memorable of the anti-fuel hike protests for me was “Occupy Nigeria” in 2012 when the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan increased pump price to N140 per liter on New Year day. Pastor Tunde Bakare who joined us on the street for the first time in 2010 when he convened the Save Nigeria Group,SNG, to rattle the cabal that would not allow power transfer to Jonathan in spite of the incapacitation of President Umaru Yar’Adua had asked me to call a meeting of the fighters. We met at the SNG secretariat with Femi and Seun Kuti, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, Ras Kimono and Dede Mabiakwu in attendance. We agreed to have a rally at Ojota on January 9,2012. January 12, 2012 protest: We expected good turn out based on the mobilisation we carried out but the turn out surpassed our expectations. The second day doubled the first day.The third day spilled out of control. The fourth day communicated to us that a stampede was in the offing if we did not do something .We had to ask the crowd to go home for the weekend on the fifth and return on Monday. Our suspension allowed Labour to cut a deal and Ojota was taken over before we could come back on Monday by troops.
As a military person with oil and gas background, these are plans he should have concluded with companies even before the elections (win or loss . . . he can still chip in that bit as a patriotic Nigerian). I am not in government, but I know few companies that could set that up in 3-6 months.
If the president were pragmatic enough, knowing this refinery thing is the heartbeat of the nation, we should have had at the least, 2-4 modular refineries working in full throttle as we speak. No lies!!! Dangote's 2018 timeline isn't encouraging, we need the "here and now" @ tomlepskie They are not government owned. A private company can set up anywhere it so desires, it will factor in profitability and arrive at suitable locations. |

But a PDP lawmaker who does not want to be named said his party caucus would “criticise and oppose” the new policy to “let Nigerians see the hardship brought on them by the APC and Buhari”. Petty party politics!! No thought for the merit or demerit, just party showmanship... Aluko, 46, apparently sold the residence in an off-market transaction using a limited-liability company. An off-market sale in real estate refers to a property that is sold without any form of public advertising. Politics › Kola Aluko Sells His Los-Angeles Mansion by modath(op): 10:50am On May 16, 2016 |
The Los Angeles Times has reported that Kola Aluko, a controversial Nigerian oil tycoon, has sold his Bel-Air, Los Angeles mansion, as Nigerian and European authorities investigate him for a series of money-laundering and fraud-related crimes.
Kola Aluko sold the home last week for $21.5 million, taking a $3 million loss after purchasing the sprawling residence in 2012 for $24.5 million. Aluko, 46, apparently sold the residence in an off-market transaction using a limited-liability company. An off-market sale in real estate refers to a property that is sold without any form of public advertising.
Aluko’s former home- a contemporary-style showplace in the 700 block of Sarbonne Road, Los Angeles, was designed by architect Paul McClean and built in 2011. The property sits on more than an acre, has a gated entrance, a subterranean garage and a 132-square-foot infinity-edge swimming pool among other features.
For a long time, Aluko had been linked as a business associate of Nigeria’s former Petroleum minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, who is also currently under investigation by Nigerian and British authorities for money laundering and embezzlement. Shortly after she became oil minister in 2010, Alison-Madueke awarded Atlantic Energy- an unknown start-up co-founded by Aluko, a very lucrative contract to fund NNPC’s (the state oil company) operational costs in four lucrative oil blocks in which the NNPC owned a stake. In return for providing funding to the NNPC, Atlantic Energy was to lift the crude produced from the oil blocks, sell it, and thereafter pay the state-owned oil firm its share of profits. But there is an allegation and considerable proof that Atlantic Energy did not make any upfront funding but lifted crude and that a huge chunk of the proceeds from the sale of the crude oil did not make it to NNPC’s coffers and, by extension, the Nigerian treasury.
An email to Kola Aluko to confirm the sale of his Bel-Air property was not responded to as at the time of this post. http://www.forbes.com/sites/mfonobongnsehe/2016/05/15/nigerian-oilman-kola-aluko-sells-his-bel-air-mansion-for-21-5-million/#55de2bc388ae

Politics › Shekarau--- " My Arrest Not Political, Consequences Of My Own Actions" by modath(op): 5:30pm On May 15, 2016 |
A former Kano State governor who was accused of helping to distribute N950 million in the #Dasukigate scandal has said he is not being politically victimised.
Mr. Shekarau, a founding member of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, few months to the 2015 elections.
He was recently arrested by the anti-graft agency, EFCC, amid allegations that he helped distribute N950 million to top Kano and other northern politicians in the build-up to the elections.
The money is believed to be part of the $2.1 billion arms fund allegedly mismanaged by the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki. Mr. Dasuki and some other officials of the previous administration are already being prosecuted for their roles in the scam popularly referred as #Dasukigate.
On Sunday, Mr. Shekarau, who also served as Education Minster under the Goodluck Jonathan administration, said his arrest and detention by the EFCC has no political undertone.
While addressing journalists at a news conference in Kano, he said “what happened to me could happen to anybody and it was only godly for me to accept my fate, good or bad.”
He, however, insisted that he was ready to spend the next 10 years in the Commission’s custody to prove his innocence.
“I am not suspecting any political undertone in my arrest but rather regard it as an act of God to test my faith.
“I was told that one of the beneficiaries of the N950 million in question implicated me; that I was given N25 million as my share of the money but could not state where, how and when.”
Mr. Shekarau, who thanked his supporters, said he was not suspecting anybody behind his ordeal.
The former minister was arrested by EFCC on Thursday in his house at Mundubawa, Kano metropolis.
He was alleged to have collected N25 million as his own share of the money and consequently quizzed by the Commission.
At Sunday’s conference, Mr. Shekarau did not explain his exact role in the distribution of the funds.
